Vist here regularly as it's the only pub in Northallerton with quality craft beers and good range of Belgian beers which are my favourites. Always friendly welcoming and efficient service. Keep it up Paul (the service level that is)!

Having not lived here for 18 years i thought a quick pint was in order. I wish i had not bothered. Guy on the phone when i came in, i was only person in the place. When he put the phone down didnt even say hi No music, beer flat & no atmosphere at all. The only noise was the fridges Now i know why they say things in northallerton never changes. If we took this to london we would laugh at how bad this place is

Went for lunch, it wasn’t busy. We were the only ones that had ordered food so it wasn’t like they had any other lunches to cook. We ordered nachos and fish & chips all to come out at the same time. Nachos took nearly half an hour to come and were told fish & chips were just a few mins away. Fish & chips arrived 45 minutes after they were ordered. I missed out on lunch in the end and had alerted staff that we were limited in time and they was no sense or urgency. 50 minutes should be more than enough time to get some lunch in a place where we were basically the only customers. Staff apologised but generally didn’t seem to bothered. There was No, let me speak to the manager or anything like that. Would not go back and would not recommend anyone go there.

I visit the Tithe now and again and couldn't be made to feel more welcome the staff are friendly and knowledgeable they welcome dogs the beer is great and the food fab It really feels like an independent pub not a soulless chain pub I have read the review about the nachos and my experience couldn't be further from that they were fantastic and on my second visit the manager remembered I liked mine spicy so he spiced it up for me very helpful Pop in theres always new beers to try and they are happy to let you have a taste before you buy. Regular customers are also welcoming

Wandering around Northallerton looking for somewhere with something a little different we chanced upon The Tithe, one of only two pubs in and around the High Street that seemed to have any customers on a Friday night. A good crowd of friendly people in the bar that was very very busy. We managed to find space around a small table with comfortable armchairs and enjoyed a couple of drinks in a pleasant atmosphere. We did not try any of the bar food on offer. Recommended.

I've been told by TripAdvisor to re-write my original criticism of one particular visit to this establishment as I am not, apparently, allowed to mention unpleasant, shouty customers. I have only ever had courteous service, great beer and, when I do have something to eat, great food here. If you are unlucky enough to visit when the infrequent socially inept customer is there, please try again another day - it's a great, dog-friendly pub which concentrates on beer and food. No juke box (although they do have a SONOS system and the bar staff can access playlists of most things), no fruit machines and a television which makes occasional appearances for major sporting events. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

I often frequent this establishment, and was present when this harridan visited. I have never heard any complaints about the food, but apparently the "barman's" (that'll be the manager's) explanation that the food is prepared freshly and to a traditional recipe (cream which has lemon added to it to sour it, with coriander) was not sufficient for this woman. She unfairly whinged about the the landlord's dog online, but I have never had any problems with him - he is certainly not an aggressive Beagle. The pub is indeed dog-friendly, and I have found the staff to be most helpful all the time. The woman in question was rude, abrupt and very unpleasant. Her review mentions how she feels she was slighted, but doesn't mention how she melodramatically stood at the bar and screeched at other customers how upset she was. To be perfectly honest, if there was a way to list dreadful customers on here, she'd be on it. Stay in Newcastle, you gobby horror.

If you want to dip your nachos in single cream which has a slice of lemon and herbs in it, then this is the place to go. It's actually not that nice, but still, It's what happens here if you ask for the sour cream which is on the menu. A waitress will bring it without comment and then be astonished when you tell her it's not sour cream. She won't apologise though, she'll just come back and tell you they haven't got any and not be able to explain why she brought you single cream to put your pulled pork nachos in. Later, the bar man, whose aggressive dog has been running round the bar off-lead and harassed your placid spaniel several times, will ask if you want a refund for the nachos just because there was no sour cream. You will say no, that it was because you were brought some single cream instead. He will smirk and give you a refund. You will ask if he or the waitress might apologise and he will smirk and snigger while saying he's sorry. You'll think this whole experience was quite weird and walk out of the bar from Star Wars (announcing to the bar not to eat anything because they could bring you any random substitute ingredient and hope you don't notice). This will all be a bit stressful and odd. You'll remember how you went a couple of times years ago and they always got the order wrong or delayed but you had a nice meal there the other day and it's one of the few dog-friendly places in Northallerton (not so much, with an aggressive beagle running round loose). You will resolve never to go again. You'll wonder what the state of their kitchen is like and conclude it doesn't bear thinking about. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Great bar, sadly no food this visit but happy that we ate a sandwich bought over the road in popular underwear shop. Excellent Tim Taylor Boltmaker. Sad that we got a parking ticket from an over zealous TW after only a few minutes. Amazing how two hours passed in Northallerton. Sad to say, lovely town but parking should be free. It (not the beer) leaves a sour taste. Nice selection of beers in tasteful bar .

1 HR wait for food, no apology , no updates on our food where it was was it coming, we eventually asked after 40mins to be told it was on its way 20mins later still no food. When food did arrive it came in different stages so we could not all eat together as if we waited food would be cold. The place was basically empty and we still had to wait all this time. We paid and left again no apology. Also every vinegar bottle had lots of dead fly's in we just realised as our daughter was about to pour it on her food. Staff seemed nice but hard to tell with such a bad experience. Great selection of beers and booze tho. Such a shame

Visited on Saturday evening 7pm, bar busy with drinkers no one really eating, we booked upstairs - only ones in the restaurant. Had to wait to be served, waitress came once I walked over to her, starters took a long time to come but well worth the wait, chicken wings (actually small drumsticks) but beautifully cooked and so tasty, Hallumi chips were really good. I ordered the steak and ale pie, which had very soggy pastry and large lumps of potato and carrot inside - only found a couple of pieces of meat, very disappointing. Husband ordered burger - even the bun was overdone - you could clearly see how overdone so why they sent it out is beyond me. Great that they allow dogs and would go for a drink again but would not order food other than the starters - a real shame, if the main had been as good as the starters we would be there regularly.

Sunday 21st Jan caught in a very bad snow storm, saw the sign for roast beef dinner at the Title Bar. Went in to smelly dark place a few oldies at the bar. Misery face behind the bar. Asked for roast beef, HAD NONE, Weather was so bad I had lamb dinner instead. After waiting forever, a young girl came with the food on a stone cold plate. Piled high with a defrosted burnt cold yorkshire pudding. Inside of it was huge thick glue. Roast potatoes had been deep fried in a fat fryer, yuk. Three slices of the cheapest fat cut of lamb I have ever seen.It had BEEF gravy poured over it. Half a gravy boat of BEEF GRANUAL gravy. Bowl of stone cold burnt parsnips, carrots and broccoli. I ate half a potato, one spoonful of mash, all cold and then bit into the yorkshire pudding. YUK YUK, it spewed out a mouthful of cold oil i was nearly sick. That did it for me. I just got up and paid the bill, which I was stupid to do. I should just have walked out really. Misery behind the bar just took the money. This was the most gross place I have ever been. A VISIT FROM THE FOOD INSPECTOR IS NEEDED. I WOULDN'T FEED THAT SLOP TO A DOG. I should have taken a photo of the slop but I had to get out because I felt so sick.

We greeted at the door by a very 'peculiar' smell which we all decided on being the toilets. but having had a puncture on the way and nowhere having a tyre, then going into a neighbouring restaurant only to be told after waiting 15 minutes at the bar only to be told there was an hour wait we were quite desperate. We asked if they were serving food and could accommodate 8 people and were pointed to a table the other side of a wall. we all ordered our drinks with the abrupt and sullen barman/waiter £5.25 a pint of larger i might add. we ordered so many starters for the table and 8 mains. we waited and waited and waited when eventually the barman arrived with two main courses.. We tried to confirm with ourselves that we all thought wed ordered starters when he snapped ' you said you dint mind if they all came at the same time'. needless to say they were put on the table 2 at a time as the kitchen is upstairs and the stairs were at the other end of the building so this took a while. on receiving my steak and ale pie i started to eat it, and after eating the second bit of potato inside of the pic i took the lid off to see what was going on... the pie was all but potato in a very thin gravy. the waiter came back with sauces and i asked if the pie on the menu was steak and ale and he snapped 'yeah, i think so' i said well there isn't any steak in it, its only potato? i replied in the same again manner ' i dunno ill have to ask the chef'. to which he never came back so i only ate the pastry. I've also uploaded a picture of it. 3 people had chicken burger which where 2 over cooked goujons which were quite hard, another had a beef burger which was way under cooked there was a fish and chips which was OK, and a 'posh corned beef has which my friend said was OK too.

First impressions were brilliant, the locals were friendly, I even met a 4 legged friend named hetty who I wanted to take to our party upstairs too!! I was so busy talking to my new friend hetty that I walked up to the party after petting her and forgot my drink!! The lovely barman left his station and brought my drink up for me which I thought was lovely of him!! They didn't complain about the noise we were making and the establishment itself is quite sophisticated not like some of the grotty pubs around northallerton. I would actually come back to this one for a function and bring my 4 legged fur baby with me!! Thankyou so much for a lovely night. P.s on the way out I noticed a smashed glass on our table which I am terribly sorry about. I don't know who accidentally smashed it but would be willing to pay for them just because I so enjoyed myself last night so get in touch if you would like reimbursing. I am a regular at the 'Tithe' (formerly known as the Tithe Bar) and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Since the updated decor this hasn't changed. The team want the customers to have a great time and I certainly always do. The beer choice is different to the 'mainstream' you will find in the other pubs in the town and far better for it. The food is excellent and I have tried several options from the menu! I can recommend the sticky toffee pudding too which is superb. The Tithe recently was updated in terms of its decor. It is refreshed in appearance but the original customer service values remain. As does the great beer and the good food. There is nowhere better in town and I can't recommend it any more highly than I do. If you want a good pint and a good pie (try the Ham Hock and Leek - other menu options are available!) then visit the Tithe.

Came across this pub/restaurant, when looking for lunch on a Saturday. It is very slightly away from the main centre of Northallerton, and is part of the regional Market Town Taverns chain. It had only re-opened the previous day after a refurbishment, which had produced a pleasant atmosphere. The menu range was not extensive, but sufficient for us to make a suitable choice. There were not too many customers when we arrived and food and drinks were ordered and paid for at the bar. When served the portion size and quality was average, influenced by the fact that the food temperature could have been hotter. The service was pleasant enough but unremarkable.

I visited the Tithe bar for a social gathering with work friends. The staff are brilliant, very friendly and help full. The draft beers are excellent. We ordered food though which is where things went down hill rapidly!!! Firstly it came out in front and drabs so two of us were nearly finished by the time the last two were served. The liver, bacon and onions with mash was very poor. The mash was obviously microwaved to an inch of its life with a tough leathery crust on top. The liver was cooked to oblivion and the onions rings on the side were almost raw!! There was something strange stringy and jelly like in the vinegar..........The pie was very dry and as for the none existent cheese sauce!!!!! The veg served on the side looked like it had been sat under a heat lamp for most of the day.Basically between the group of us none of us would come back for food.Basically, if you want a great beer or two served by very nice staff try here but if you want food find any where else as it will be better.

Had a good atmosphere and extremely popular. Also as we had a dog with the party, they are a dog friendly pub. The food looked good and was reasonably priced so we decided to eat there. Unfortunately, they did make a couple of blunders. One of the meals had been incorrectly sent through to the kitchen and was sent back hence that member of the party was eating after everyone else. Also, the pan fried port fillet was very light on the pork and at £15 not good value, which we did say at the time. Apart from that, a good night.

On arrival, ordered bottles of white wine, were told they couldn't find any wine coolers (we were 1 of only 3 tables occupied at 6.00pm) Then told that we had to go upstairs to eat, we politely refused. Food arrived, those who had ordered steak had food put in front of them with no reference as to who had ordered rare, medium or well done. Moules arrived with no fries or bread. Saving grace was a lovely young waiter, bless him, who found us a wine cooler, and delivered missing fries etc very quickly. Overall food quality very good for the price, just disappointed with some of the service. Great shame as it is one of the nicest bars in town, but they have competition opening a few doors up, so service should be spot on

First of the food we had was good so the poor reflects the overall , decent portions value for money. However the service is another matter when your handed menu's you assume that they have full availability unless stated. When we came to place our order we were told that 1 item we requested wasn't available which led to them saying three other main courses were not available, then as another starter was ordered to be told this also wasn't available which at 7.15pm on a Friday is mad, especially when then menus are just on A4 sheets on a clip board.(change them) when our starters arrived two came together and then a prawn cocktail in a tall glass came Sep I assumed it was because of the effort to carry it, we then had to ask 5 min later where the missing starter was. The main course whilst nice was missing the addition of cheese and whilst this was rectified on asking was another blip. Plates were cleared we were not asked if we wanted desserts or coffee or even the bill. Nice food but service leaves a lot to be desired don't understand how a waitress who takes the order doesn't spot that she's one plate down one the table especially as the team were only 10 ppl in the restaurant.

We'd booked a table for 7.30pm on Saturday night and as we were a group of the 16 we were asked to pre order which we all did. After a long wait we were presented with disappointingly small portions - not just some dishes every plate. Still hungry we decided to order pudding, but having sat there for at least 30 mins staring at empty plates, it took somebody going to ask at the bar for menus and a further 10 mins before they were cleared. We ordered puddings then after another wait we looked at the time to see it was 9.35pm (remember this was a 7.30pm booking and there we were still hungry & waiting for pudding).Again someone went to ask and was told they would be 5 mins.........10 mins later we were deciding amongst ourselves who would be brave enough to cancel the order and ask for the bill - at which point they arrived. It was after 10pm before we'd received the bill and made a quick sharp exit.Despite all this I've awarded 2 stars as the food was actually quite nice and the place was nicely decorated but considering everything else I won't be going back in a hurry.

The tithe bar is a regular place for my friends and I. The wine is always very good which is mainly why we decide to meet here. Now they have started food again it's an added bonus. We booked a table of four and we all opted for fish and chips. The fish I was told was haddock and the portions were huge! Much bigger and better than the fish and chip shops!!!

We booked a table for a Mothering Sunday lunch having experienced a great meal one Friday a month or two ago. Unfortunately our second experience of this establishment fell well beneath our expectations .The starters, although tasty (but really ...... one scallop on a huge plate!!!!) arrived after 45 minutes of waiting and ordering of numerous drinks. The main course, which was delivered an hour and a half from ordering, proved to be something of a challenge. The roast beef was fine but the roast pork and crackling turned out to be a tough pork loin chop without crackling. To be fair, as soon as this was pointed out an alternative plate of beef was provided. The diabetic in our party had to resort to the sucking of glucose tablets before being served. We rarely complain and really welcomed what promised to be a good addition to eating establishments in the town. What a disappointment!

Great news for Northallerton. The food at the Tithe Bar is up and running again. Excellent, varied choice and really well cooked. The folks behind the bar, as always, are just great. Thank God we now have have two great pubs, here and the Standard doing excellent food. As for the other independent pubs, I suggest you go and visit the Standard and the Tithe or else Wetherspoons will visit you some time soon. Can't recommend enough - great to have the Tithe back on form.

Very sad to have to write this review. The Tithe Bar has always been a good pub for differing drinks. However, over the last few visits the tables have been dirty. In the Tithe Bar last night everything stuck to the table, even my friends mobile phone case, simply because it was dirty and had not been cleaned. The bar area was in a real mess being wet and dirty. Management is not good here. We had the same problem a few weeks ago when we went in at 5pm, dirty tables. Not good enough.

This is a lovely bar and restaurant but who on earth manages their pricing? One pint of beer and one sparkling water with lime - £5.50. The beer was £3.35 which is par for the course so when I queried the price of the little bottle of water I was told the tiny shot of lime cordial was 70p! This would make vintage champagne cheaper by the 100ml!One word for it - scandalous. Trading standards should look into this.

Having eaten previously under the previous chef, I was disappointed when they left and the tithe stopped serving food, and apprehensive that when I heard they were doing food it may not live up to previous standards.I WAS WRONG!!!In fact so good I've since been again! Definitely recommend chicken supreme, the venison, the fish and chips and the pork loin! I haven't eaten all these things by the way, but have tried bits of friends! I'm sure everything is just as amazing as those above.Let's hope this chef stays!!! Please

Working in the local area and knowing the Tithe Bar had recently hired a new chef I suggested to my work colleagues that we should go for a group meal at the end of term. We booked a table for 11, the staff being very helpful during the whole process and taking into account special dietary requirements. The whole evening was a delight, the food was incredible, the staff friendly and drinks plentiful! I will be coming back again and recommending to every one I know. Great job by everyone at the Tithe Bar.

We went at the beginning of December and they were between chefs.. the only vegetarian 'meal' was a cheeses board! A disappointing oversight for the vegetarian amongst us who said though it was a nice cheeseboard. I think they would have preferred a vegetarian meal. Hopefully they have fixed this now because other wise it was a nice meal, especially as they were in between chefs....

The only place in Northallerton that serves proper, looked after beer. Always has a wide variety of beers and ciders on and are happy to let you have tasters (or they serve trays of three third-pints). Nice atmosphere too so a good place to sit and put the world to rights over a quality drink or two.

We went as a group of six on Saturday evening a few weeks ago. We all opted for the burgers, I had the vegetarian one, it was absolutely delicious. The others all had the pulled pork one which they all loved. We had a side of chilli poppers which were so nice. The atmosphere is great and the lads all enjoyed trying the different types of beers on offer. I would highly recommend the tithe bar, it's great we have somewhere like this right on our doorstep.

My husband and I went there as part of an evening out. One gin and tonic for me and a pint for him came to £9.45! When my husband queried this he was told that the G & T was effectively two drinks, We were appalled, and despite living in Northallerton, we will never set foot in the establishment again.

This was our first visit, we thought we would try it for lunch having been to other pubs in the same pubgroup in Skipton and York. The barmaid was friendly but overall we were disappointed. The beer we chose was average, not as well presented as the last time we had that particular brew, but that may not have been the fault of the pub. The very substantial pulled pork and steak with cheese sandwiches were tasty but the buns themselves had been cremated, and I mean BLACK. We noticed that someone else eating the same meal did not have the same problem with his bun. Taking your eye off the ball to that extent when there were less than half a dozen people in the pub is not impressive. As they were large portions, leaving the bun did not leave us hungry! I also found the ladies' loos in need of TLC. Overall not impressed but we would be prepared to try it again and hope for a better experience next time.

We called in Thursday evening for a meal a few people were eating and the food looked and smelt great. the staff were attentive and helpful. we had steak ale pie and a philly cheese steak sandwich. the food arrived promptly cooked to perfection. the steak pie was home made and full of filling. the chips fat and delicious. Northallerton sadly lacks decent venues for food on an evening unless you are a fan of indian or take away pizza. there are always daily specials and a good choice on the menu.

Walked in early evening after a recommendation from a friend. We just wanted a snack and boy, did they deliver. My partner fancied a chip butty. Not a problem it duly arrived with excellent chips. I had a chilli con carne and rice which was really good. So often chilli con carne is either tasteless or blows your head off. They got it just right. Having said that we would not have a pudding - our resolve weakened and we are glad that we gave into temptation. We will be back and we can't wait.

I am a regular to this bar for food and drink as I live in town. Except a very few staff, the bar staff is not welcoming at all and they are unhelpful. They once overcharged for a drink once. When I questioned them, they thought that I was lying. No apologies or no refund. They said that it was not them who overcharged me, but the other bar staff who was on an early shift. Since them I always check the price of drinks and food as they might do it again. Don’t trust them at all.

This place does not look much from the outside, but inside is stylish and cosy. We were a large party, helpfully- to the other diners- placed upstairs. The staff were helpful and friendly, the food all came out promptly. My venison with red cabbage and mash was perfectly cooked, the fish dishes and chicken dishes looked gorgeous too. The staff even hosted a quiz for our group after the meal which was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this place for a great night out. Well done all round.

We were a large group, taking up the whole of the upper floor, consisting of young and old ones and we received an excellent welcome from polite, friendly and helpful staff working in stylish surroundings. The food menu is good but quite restrictive for a children’s menu but they do try to be accommodating by providing a smaller portion of an adults meal. The drinks selection is excellent, particularly the third pint tasters which were of excellent quality ales. Food quality is ok, although most plates were completely cleared but I think the value for money is poor (£6.50 for a posh finger sandwich consisting of small bits of battered fillet and £5.95 for a basic children’s meal). I would recommend it as somewhere to go with a large party or as a couple but be aware of the parking which is on street and sparse during a Saturday afternoon.

Reasonably priced and varied menu; consisting of wholesome traditional food generally, but some unusual 'specials' also available. Our meals were both tasty and fresh with ample portions. Great range of beers and good wine list. Great ambience and friendly bar staff meant for a very pleasant overall experience. In my opinion and experience without doubt the best 'pub grub' and the best range of beers in Northallerton.

Started the evening downstairs in the bar which has a range of real ales and unusual other beers and gins, between the 4 of us we sampled and really enjoyed. Then we went upstairs to the restaurant and had a great meal. Starters and mains were of high quality and very good value. Unfortunately we live 150 miles away and were here with family who live locally, but unlikely to get back anytime soon, but they will return. Well worth a visit if you are in Northallerton.

Lovely little place in Northallerton just off the high street. Been a couple of times & would recommend. Had a lovely latte (£2.20) and shared a meat sharers platter for 2 (£13ish) which consisted of a scotch egg with black pudding in it, ham hock terrine, pickled carrots and onions, coated chicken pieces, bread, pork, belly pork, chorizo & rocket salad served on a wooden sharing board. Every bit was lovely. Staff very pleasant & attentive. There was a lovely range of beers and lagers from around the globe. Seating was very comfy with a mix of booths, armchairs with tables and table & chairs. Lovely place with nice atmosphere and great food.

ARCADIA GARDEN RESTURANT Never again will we return. There are certain standards that people have and this place isn't mine. The resturant is like walking into the 70s. The bread on the sandwich was grey and limp the lasagna was orange cheese with no flavour and hardly any meat and of course the chips are frozen oven chips terrible. I should have know as soon as I walked in but I didn't and paid £29 for 2 meals and I couldn't face eating the sandwich so left it. It wasnt even worth explaining to any staff as they truly think they are serving good food. The quality of food is terrible and the place is too big. Again it's about standards and some diners will think it's the best! Please dont reply with apologies as in other comments as it is not good enough!.
