Tin Tin in Portsmouth

We entered the restaurant while it was fairly empty, only sbout five couples. Shortly afterwards a group of eight arrived and sat at a round table. The group comprised five Chinese, two babies and a brit. The brit asked one of the waitresses where he could change the baby. She pointed ta a double seat where people awaiting takeaways sit. He proceeded to change the nappy in full view of our table. Judging by the smell it was poo as well as urine. The toilets were upstairs but he never went up to wash his hands. At the end of their meal, he paid the bill holding the card machine with both unwashed hands. The waitresses later held the card machine. Had there been any germs from the nappy on his hands, they would have been transferred to the machine, to the staff, to the customer plates. It doesn't bear thinking about. The table of eight were served long before anyone else in the restaurant, even though many had ordered before them. We had to twice ask for chopsticks and twice asked for a second pot of tea. The food arrived in dribs and drabs, not together. It was hot but the serving dishes were cold. How hard is it to warm dishes? The food was nice however although expensive, for example £15 for two bowl of won ton soup! At the end of dinner they cleared away the dishes but the bits of food and sauce on the table were never wiped away. The service was slow partly because of the huge number of takeaways being sold. In every Chinese restaurant I've been in, I've ordered a pot of Jasmine tea and all subsequent pots have been free. Here they charge for each small pot. The final insult was a 10% service charge which was not mentioned in the menu. Won't be returning.

Went in early evening today 5.8.2024 with my wife. Great Service. Excellent Food. Huge Portions. Value for Money. Very Nice Staff.

This is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly, welcoming and very helpful. If you are ever in Portsmouth, especially near the docks I would definitely recommend a visit to Tin Tin

Relaxed friendly atmosphere, staff were brilliant, and food was spot on , couldn't fault it full of flavour and well cooked. We had the chilli chicken and chilli beef both with fried rice, they also give you free prawn crackers and spring rolls. A lady's phone had no battery so they provided a charger for her. Will definitely be back next time we're in Portsmouth. Cost us £41 for chilli chicken , crunchy chilli beef, 2 x fried rice , wine and coke plus the free crackers and rolls.

i ordered 2 currys 1 chow mein egg fried rice prawn crackers and it was very salty and rice was too but also sweet i paid nearly £40 on this and didnt eat it nor did my dogs and thats saying something disgusting

We stopped here for a late lunch while visiting Portsmouth. It is right across the street from the Bus Station. The food was outstanding. I had the most wonderful noodle soup. Very friendly and attentive staff.

We came here yesterday while visiting the city, it was a nice experience. The restaurant is well decorated, the food exquisite, and the waitresses welcoming and friendly. Definitely going to return once we have the opportunity to come back to this city!

What a find, the food was excellent and we ordered far too much being unsure of the portion size, and that they give prawn crackers and spring rolls as a complimentary starter. The squid was as good as China Town in London and the bbq pork tender and tasty.

We loved everything. Very friendly and accommodating staff, I felt like I am being asked by mom what I want to eat for dinner. ❤️ The food is fantastic and very generous serving as well. Took our left overs for take away and would still be enough until kunch the next day. 🥰 Would diff visit again!

We’ve tried most of the chineses in pourtsmouth now 🤣 and this one is our FAVOURITE! The dumplings I wouldn’t go anywhere else for dumplings they are AMAZING, the chips aswell the chicken curry literally everythign we’ve also tried the salt and pepper ribs the spring rolls we got complimentary the rice the noodles everything was fresh and delicious 10/10 recommend to anyone ordering take always or to anyone that wants a nice place to sit in and have a meal or catch up with friends, it’s just by the train station and by gumwarf where the ferry is ! £3 for a can of Diet Coke, £25 for the buffet then they refused a doggy bag for half of the a main course as partner wasn’t well with no consideration for her condition then they add a 10% service charge, they won’t be getting a tip and we certainly won’t be coming back.

Mixed feelings in the group about Tin Tins. I love it because its like going back in time when we first started seeing Chinese Restaurants. Food is OK its served hot and is tasty . Service was very good and attentive . If you are looking for somewhere for a Chinese then why not.

Ordered a delivery,the lady on the phone repeated back the order & said 2 complete wrong things to what we asked for, we asked for the price they said would call back, rang back 5 mins later re read the order and again said a wrong dish, again said would call back with the amount needed to pay, turnt up 45 mins later, bland, crap, stodge, wont be ordering ever again.

Absolutely fantastic food and service, the waitress was friendly attentive and a brilliant sense of humour! Can not recommend this restaurant enough, wish we lived here as we would be here all the time! Thank you x

We visited as a 4, some 4 years after last reviewing - and following on from its recent re-branding - and... it was very good: the staff were attentive, fun and pleasant, the food was huge, flavourful, and almost too much, and the ambience was just fine too. It was, however, VERY expensive, costing close to £200, so it's probably some 20% more than it should be, but - on balance - it has made a welcome return?

Tried this restaurant whilst on business. The staff said they had only revelry taken over the restaurant. They were very friendly and weee happy to advise on dishes. The food was excellent, very large portions (I couldn’t finish it all and I have a big appetite). The staff if I wanted the leftovers to take away. It’s not cheap but well worth the money. I will definitely be back and am happy to recommend this Chinese restaurant.

Visited the New Tin Tin's which is now under new management. Average food served on cold plates. Asked for house fried rice, got a plate of boiled rice with various ingredients tossed on the top, in a congealed state on a cold dish. Complained to the waiter who was very defensive. The current quality of food & service is a pale imitation of the previous operation which we visited many times. I will not be returning to this restaurant

Saw the reviews and gave it a go. Staff couldn't very friendlier and very attentive as we were there first customers at around 5.30pm on a Saturday. Yes the place looks a little tired but give it a go. We sat inside to eat and were not disappointed. We chose pork dumplings and spring role's starters, and crispy beef sweet and sour crispy chicken mains with fried rice. The food was hot and presented lovely, and tasted great. The staff are so very friendly I couldn't fault them. I would definitely eat here again. Thoroughly recommended.

This place is tired, well worn and quite grubby. The staff leave a lot to be desired with their abrupt manor and clearly all they want to do is turn the tables over quickly to earn more money. The food was average, the curry was thick and gloopy and with half the ingredients missing. An expensive experience for a sub standard meal.

Well what can we say a party of 20 of us went here to celebrate my mums marriage it was a truly wonderful experience The staff are very intentive. Our food was wonderful and came out practicaly at the sametime and hot. Well, we turned up at Tin Tin once again, only to find this may be our last time ever. Tony, the owner and Head of House is retiring and will not be passing on the business to anyone in his family. There's not any guarantee that it will be sold on to someone who wants to continue as a Chinese restaurant. So, sadly, we enjoyed a final excellent meal with great soup, delicious prawns squid and noodles. All served with great friendliness and aplomb. Thanks one last time Tony.

We were staying in Portsmouth and Tin Tin was the nearest to us with decent ratings. We decided to go for a meal in the restaurant. First impressions were that we were met by an unhelpful gentleman who wanted to seat us nearest the door. Because we didn't want to sit there he said there were no other tables so we decided to have a takeaway to take back to our hotel room. The restaurant was tired and the carpet was filthy. The place didn't look like it had been decorated or cleaned formthat matter in many years. We ordered our food, which for a very basic meal was expensive and were told to wait by the entrance door. When our food came, the bag was handed to me, no word of thanks, the ignorant man just held the bag out at arm's length. Would I recommend this place? Certainly not. The food was mediocre, made of the cheapest of ingredients and the sweet and sour chicken balls oozed oil which was disgusting. I would avoid this place at all costs.

Last night we decided to order Chinese via Deliveroo. We spent £50 on food between the two of us and all we managed to eat was the duck and some boiled rice. Overpriced and a waste of money. Chicken was slimy and tasteless, the salt and pepper chips had little to no seasoning. Wont be ordering again, very disappointed

We ordered a takeaway whilst staying in Southsea via Deliveroo. Order arrived promptly and it was hot and fresh, we really enjoyed everything we ordered! Thank you we will definitely use again

We visited Tin Tin many, many years ago and for some reason, nothing bad, had never thought to go back. Another couple recommended it to us and we have been twice in the last month already! It is an absolutely outstanding Chinese. The food is incredible, the staff are lovely and it’s a very nice, authentic Chinese restaurant to sit in. The menu is so big, there are so many things to choose from. We went for one of the set menus and were really impressed. Highly recommend if you’re around the harbour looking for somewhere to eat. Would go as far to say it’s the best restaurant around the harbour/Gunwharf area.

We took a group of eight for a mid-week dinner at Tin Tin and it worked wonderfully. Dealing with this number and providing split bills was handled effortlessly and every person there was impressed by the quality of the meals as well as the excellent service. Add to this the charming ambience of the restaurant and you have all you need to make up a great meal for groups of two, ten or twenty.

Really lovely evening the staff were incredibly polite, attentive and thoughtful. Food was amazing.. tasty hot and flavoursome. Not salty like some Chinese I’ve had. Would definitely go again.

The interior is a little dated but in away this adds to the charm of this excellent Chinese restaurant , in my view they should dim the lights a little which would help with the ambience , the food is very good we had the Chop Suey ,Aromatic Duck and Pork cooked in Black bean sauce , the drink are very cheap for a restaurant which will help students or people who want a good value meal , great location near the Navy dock yard , train & bus stations .

We found this restaurant by pure chance on our first visit. The staff were reactive friendly and all round helpful. The food was really good and the service couldn’t be faulted. Even down to being allowed to try lots of different wines before settling on the one my partner wanted to drink. I don’t usually give five stars but the staff alone deserve this rating. The kids wanted to go back on their own to eat the shredded duck and pancakes on its own.

Second visit to Portsmouth, second visit to Tin Tin. Fantastic food, having eaten in lots of places in Manchester China Town I would say Tin Tin is up there with the best. Christine looked after us and we were made to feel so welcome. We will be back.

We are visiting area and found this restaurant online. We booked on the telephone before we arrived and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and looked after. We chose the all you could eat and the lady owner explained they would bring out a selection of all the starters for us to try and then we could order anything we wanted more of. After hearing great things about Tin Tin’s from family and friends, my partner and I decided to book, we booked a table over the phone. When we arrived we were seated, a few minutes later we asked for the eat all you like menu and was told we couldn’t have it as this was not mentioned when booking the table. Strange after talking to others who had been previously they had never stated when booking a table. We ordered our drinks after calling someone over!4 other people were then seated and within moments were given a bowl of prawn crackers! By this time we had been seated a good 10 minutes but we hadn’t received any prawn crackers, maybe these were regular clients so maybe they receiveVIP treatment. After witnessing this and our drinks had still not arrived 5 minutes after ordering we decided we were leaving! We went off to the Gunwhalf instead. Really disappointed after hearing such great reviews this has left a sour taste in our mouths and we won’t be bothering to return.

Ordered a delivery (Usually pick it up) of their awesome chow mien and sweet and sour pork balls (Not on menu ? But quick) 'So Called' roast pork were actually sage and onion sausage meat in burnt batter with VERY runny Sweet & sour sauce.. OH MY.. How much you have slipped.. AND had the GALL to charge £2.50 to deliver to TWO streets away.. I think your chow mien is no longer worth the preference against the local takeaway.. Really gutted.. Good luck

After reading the reviews ate here on 1 November for my partners 60th birthday, the food was absolutely delicious. Ribs and Scallops to start, mains were belly pork and duck, everything was really really tasty, thank you for your hospitality. From the outside it does look a bit high street takeaway but once inside it is typically Chinese restaurant, warm and inviting, highly recommend.

The best choice you will make if you decide to eat here, family run, not a chain it is some of the best Chinese food you will ever eat. Try the traditional crispy belly pork or Tin Tin special noodle or Tin Tin house rice.

A few days before the second ludicrous lockdown a group of four of us had dinner here. The decor is a little dated within and the exterior looks more take away than restaurant. Don’t let this put you off. These issues not befit the excellence within. The food is superb, the service charming and portions way more than adequate. Not often in Portsmouth but would definitely visit again if we were.

We were staying in Emsworth for our anniversary break and fancied Chinese. Found this little gem and it was amazing. When we first went in we were seated in a booth, being a bigger lady it was a squeeze but the man happily moved us to a table. The all you can eat menu is small, compared to our usual place, so was a little disappointed bit that didn't last long. The food was amazing, melt in your mouth. Totally recommend

A bit like walking back in time to the late 80's however the food is superb hot flavoursome and cooked to order. Ting Tau and decent selection of wine. What more can you want.... ah yes good value as well.

2 of us came here for the eat out to help out. We’d never been here before but had heard good reviews. We ordered a good amount of food for each of us with drinks and with the 50% off it only came to £19, personally I wouldn’t of paid the full price for it mainly because the sizes are fairly small but the taste of the food was incredible. Definitely the nicest Chinese I’ve had in years, you pay for the taste and not the size. Not sure if takeaway would be different but cannot fault the taste in any way. The staff were also super friendly.

This Chinese restaurant is situated next to the Gunwharf development and HMS Warrior, and is thus a welcome independent in an area with many chain restaurants. It’s got a slightly retro feel, there are booths and larger open tables. The menu is large as you would expect in a more traditional style of Chinese restaurant. I had crispy seaweed for my starter, served just how I like it. Spotting a hotpot on the menu I couldn’t resist having it as my main. Of course it’s not like what you get in a specialist hot pot restaurant, it was still a lot of fun though, stewing beef was used as the meat. There was a reasonably priced bottle of wine to wash the meal down. Some good Covid safe practices and friendly service meant that this was a restaurant I’d be happy to dine at again.

Me and my partner couldn't wait to come back to tin tins, and as always it was absolutely delicious! Safety measures were spot on and no one was sitting near us. Hand sanitiser was available and the staff were brilliant as usual. If you haven't tried this restaurant then give it a go it's definitely worth it.

Visited Tin Tin for a family meal after reading reviews on trip advisor. 7 of us ate on Saturday 11th July while in Portsmouth for a weekend away. The owner and his daughter were great hosts and ensured coved-19 safe precautions were in place. The food selection and quality was great. We were well looked after all night. A great Chinese restaurant, great food and great value.
