Thyme Bar & Grill in Cherwell

Drinks were very expensive, even for NYC ($25+). The bar itself is underneath a bakery, and is pretty cool - the kind that’s instagrammable with drinks that hang from ceilings and get served in plant pots. Mixologists were on point, I just think the cost is pretty high - especially with lots of amazing cocktail bars around the city charging slightly less.

The staff here are INCREDIBLY kind and generous. You truly feel like a guest. Great ambiance. Creative drinks.

Great venue, very creative cocktail menu and elegant bar food. You should try only if you will not care the staff asking you to give up your seat in the middle of your conversation when the place is half empty.

Thyme Bar is a classy speakeasy located at 20 W 23rd St, Cellar, New York, NY 10010, they got the most unique innovative cocktails with creative & fancy presentation, developed and directed by Jeremy Le Blanche. I have been to Thyme bar many times, their fancy cocktails always surprises me, never disappointed. I went with group of photographers and influencers, they have updated their cocktails once a while, the amazing taste and presentation made me in love with this spot. We always got the friendly welcoming experience with the bartenders and staff. Hope to see you there. Note: Suggest make reservations before going there, space and seating are limited.

For $100 including tip, you too can have 3-4 mediocre tasting cocktails. I struggle rating these types of places because I don’t know if I should be reading them on my lived experience or if maybe I’m supposed to know going in that it’s all just for looks and I shouldn’t have expected the cocktails to be tasty.

Was here on Sat 3/23 around 8PM and, generally, everything was great. Host was friendly and bartender/mixologist was personable and entertaining. But the female server who seemed incredibly over it and wholly reluctant to help or provide recommendations, and who ended up ignoring us for the remainder of the evening (thankfully), really put us off and made what would've been an overall fun experience into a pretty sour one. The male server who ended up coming around to us seemed much friendlier, but at that point, we were ready to leave after our first and only drink. Disappointing because we were looking forward to trying this place for a while and we left so disheartened. :(

We all need more Thyme 🌿 All thyme is now, all space is here. One drink at this bar brings a much needed change in perspective.

hostess looked miserable, very tired, didnt want to talk. not great for business, 1/27/23, 0/10. one of the waiters pushed my seat while i was sitting to move my chair. ABSOLUTELY WILD.

What an amazing experience! Our bartender Chris, he is an artist in his own rights! The drinks where fantastic, the delivery inspiring and the atmosphere quaint.

We came here around 10pm on a Tuesday and were able to get seated without having to wait. The place was at about 60% capacity when we got there, but it filled up to 100% by the time we finished our drinks around 11:30pm. When I originally looked up this place it said there was a cocktail tasting menu, but they had a normal a-la-carte menu that we ordered from. The cocktails were good and I loved the presentation!

Cocktails are strong 4/5. You can certainly find better tasting cocktails in the city. Presentation 4.5/5. I like the atmosphere here, although noisy. Bartender was appropriately aloof. Not very personal. Playing it a little too cool to be relatable, but we still had a really nice time.

Once you actually see bartenders doing the amazing work you will know why the cocktails are so expensive here

Cody (or as we affectionately called him Winston) and Phoebe were awesome & attentive servers for our tasting menu experience on NYE. The cocktails and the food were absolutely on point and neither of us had had duck near as good. Well worth the experience! Thank you both!

This is igsta worthy...drinks were gorgeous to look at..i like 1 out of 3 drinks. Im not really a drinker n i prefer sweet drinks but this is suppose to be an experience soo no complaints. Had a good time. Tiny baby appetizers lol

Advertised a Tasting Menu, however it's not a tasting menu, it's a Prix Fixe menu. We were extremely disappointed to discover this when we arrived as we were expecting several bite-sized dishes aka a Tasting Menu. The food we ordered was good but not worth the price. The atmosphere was cool and was the best part of the experience however I will not return.

Wow. Great drinks with amazing presentation. Cody, the manager is incredible. A+ evening. Will return next time in town.

My friend and I stopped in here for a quick drink before dinner and had a lovely time! The service was quick and their drink recommendations matched our preferences wonderfully. I wish we could’ve tried more, because the drinks we had had an amazing presentation and were balanced wonderfully. Definitely a place to come with friends, or try to stop by if you’re on the area!

What a brilliant surprise! Don't be fooled by the incredible and creative presentation of the cocktails. It is not a pretentious hipster bar 🙂 staff is friendly and professional and food was delicious, led by Chris behind the bar. A group of six of us enjoyed it as an after work event. We will definitely be back!

Super fun drinks, worth the wait. Ambiance was fantastic and having a seat at the bar to watch the bartenders make drinks was an experience in itself.

Fun bar with creative mixologists. The cocktails are great and Alexander mixed us up some incredible off menu creations to close out the night.

I went as a walk-in on a weekday. There was a pretty strong smell of vomit as soon as we went down the stairs to the bar. Service seemed a bit disorganized but everyone we spoke to was nice. The cocktails were ridiculous. Not like good ridiculous, just ridiculous. The glasswear and presentation were very gimmicky and impractical, and the cocktails themselves were average at best. The place is Instagramable, but not actually good.

Every year my partner and I come here for our anniversary, and each year they never have disappointed us. We love the people, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, literally everything! All of their drinks are so whimsical and interesting. I truly don't know what to expect when we order anything, but I just know it will be delicious!

You have to try this place at least once! The most creative drinks you will find hands down!

Great place with a speakeasy vibe. Creative drinks with a flair for presentation. However, doing the tasting menu is a total waste of money. We were asked to cut our evening short because another reservation was coming (we were there less than 2 hours). Very pleasant wait staff, but the whole evening felt like a waste of money. Fries, 2 drinks, and dessert should not cost what they are asking for a "tasting menu"

TLDR: Thyme Bar is worth the stop if you love intricate and tasty cocktails. Provided you can get in! If you opt for the reservation with the tasting menu, that's the most surefire way to visit. The drink with the dragon pot is awesome. I've only been once but boy was it good. It's small and the speakeasy feel underneath the bakery is pretty cool. The drinks are well thought out, quite intentional in flavors and presentation. Every subsequent visit it's been too full or the wait has been too long but till this day - one of those cocktail lounges I think about often.

I will give 5 stars for their vibe and cocktail decoration. They have the most cocktail decorations I have ever seen. However, probably because I value cocktail’s balance and taste more than its fragrance, most cocktails taste like drinking perfume for me. The Nior actually smells really nice. It’s one of their cocktails with pure agarwood. However, again, its smell is too strong. The worst one we tasted yesterday was Agrabah. It literally tastes like Darlie toothpaste. In a nutshell, it’s a bar with a good vibe, good service, lovely cocktail decorations, and bizarre/weird taste cocktails. BTW truffle fries is good, but their oyster is not fresh.

We had pre dinner drinks here before a business meal - even at 5:30, the place was nearly full! The drinks were fun, strong, imaginative, and flavorful, and the service was friendly, helpful, and attentive.

drinks are not only gorgeously presented and garnished, but they are effortlessly creative & include an entire interactive and sensory experience. if you love craft cocktails this is the spot. the staff was so warm and really added to the already cozy ambiance. april the bartender was busy but made an effort to chat with us and answer cocktail questions and her recommendations all solid. will absolutely be back next time im in the city.

I feel very neutral about my experience. Neither good nor bad. Just kinda meh. The presentation of the drinks was really cool, but the drinks themselves weren't anything special. Just okay. So felt more gimmicky and just doing it just for instagram-ability of it. The ambience was okay, kind of loud and bright for a cellar speakeasy bar. The staff were indifferent and seemed like they didn't want to be there. Food was tasty but just your standard bar food. So yeah probably wouldn't recommend going. I just don't see the reason to go.

Mr Speakeasy at another Speakeasy. As far as mixology is concerned this place is in my top 5. Service top notch, creative display on drinks phenomenal and how they can incorporate your preference to make a drink you will love is amazing. If you get Cody as your waiter, you're going to have a great time.

I love cocktails from this place! So creative and they all taste good! Not a connoisseur in cocktails but I would definitely recommend this place to my friends :)

The restaurant is absolutely stunning, intimate and classy, the service is amazing and the cocktails are to die for. The food was super tasty too, I warmly recommend trying the sliders, some of the best I have ever had.

This place really lived up to the hype. I have never had cocktails like the ones we had here. It was truly such a unique experience and everyone that took care of us were so kind and really took their time to explain the menu to us and help us choose some of their amazing cocktails. Not to mention the place is beautiful. It has an upscale speakeasy vibe. Alex, Jameson, and Nigel do an incredible job making everyone feel welcome and informed on the menu. We will definitely be back!

I can objectively understand this bar’s hype. The cocktails are very creative, presentation alone is an experience itself. A lot of them look like a cocktail and a house warming gift combined in one. In my opinion, this is the type of cocktail offering that takes the creative aspect a little too far. I found the drinks to be too sweet and sugary for how creative the recipes are. But hey, if that’s what you like this is a good spot for you. Prepare to pay a mark up though. In the plus side, Bartenders/staff were all lovely people and the bar certainly has a cool aesthetic but nothing compared to other Manhattan cocktail bars (Raines, Dear Irving, Angel’s Share, etc)

This bar is the best in the city! Beautiful atmosphere and cocktails. Very friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. They also have my favorite gin! Stray Dog Wild Gin 🍸

Fantastic drinks, great staff that is super attentive and personable. Had to wait 25 min but it was well worth the wait especially if you like cocktails with some flair.

Great cocktails! Takes the place of Aviary, which used to be over in Columbus Circle, as the most extra cocktails in the city (in the best way possible).

Waited about 1.25 hours on a Wednesday evening to check out this gem! The cocktails are definitely an experience, but beyond just that, they're actually delicious!! Thoroughly enjoyed our time here!

Thyme Bar is excellent. The attention to detail and the service are fantastic. Jeremy is a cocktail genius and the team takes great care of patrons. Look for Phoebe, Cody, Alexander, Steph, or Medina, and you will be in great hands.

We were unable to enter without a reservation, which is understandable, but what shocked us was the attitude from the hostess. She came off as rude not only with us but with other people looking to get to the bar. Lost all interest in ever coming back to this place.

Had a great time here. Best if you reserve seats or it will be a long wait. I reserved and was happy with my experience. Drinks are superb and fhe charcuterie was ok point. Definitely recommend.

Highy recommend trying the Tasting Menu which can only be done via reservations. It's cocktail themed and a unique experience. As for the cocktails themselves, some are a little bit over the top, and some come with so many ingredients it all just bleeds together but overall a positive experience. Would recommend "Queen of the Night" as an all time favorite cocktail. All food items are snack sized but can be shared among 2-3 people. Lobster rolls, sliders and mushroom arancelli are all wins.

For overpriced drinks (common in the area), this place provides more justification with ambiance, service and creativity. The cocktails were very well made, creative, and balanced… and an extra bonus was that the bartender asked to wash his hands between cocktails and holding our phone to take a picture.

A great experience that anyone would enjoy. I came with a friend and we should have made reservations but sitting at the bar was not bad at all. The decor is intimate, classy with a feminine touch, and chic. The music was great (top 40's + hip hop) until the speakers broke so it was music-less for around 45 minutes. I personally think music can make or break a vibe. Then a hero came in with Bluetooth speakers and saved the night and played a more hotel lobby vibes playlist. I ordered the Noir and loved it- it tasted fragrant- which I typically hate but this was interesting and shocked my tastebuds. I also tasted the Flower Bomb and loved it too, my favorite of both. It was more on the sweet side with the tiniest hint of spice. My friend also ordered the drink that comes on a swing and we both loved just the fact that we were drinking from a swinging cup. My friend and I loved the boujee atmosphere, the friendly staff and just watching the bartender create literal art before our eyes. I am thinking of switching all my cups at home to the Noir cup, just to boujee up my place. I recommend making reservations and coming with a group of highly visual people who love to be impressed with new experiences.

The cocktails are amazing. They are uniquely designed to offer an experience through taste, sight and smell. The only catch with these drinks were the fact that they were not strong at all, which could be the result of the smaller size of the drinks. 10/10 for quality of the cocktails. 4/10 on effect of the cocktails

Really impressed with the drinks and the aesthetics with which the drinks are presented!!! We tried the "The Noir" , "Coconnino Rain" and "Flower Bomb". For me personally I'd rate The Noir as first choice, the coconnino rain as second and then the flower bomb... The taste and aesthetic for both of these were great.. I'd say not so much impressed with the Flower Bomb. We also tried Coffee Zuchotto dessert. And I'd say one of the best coffee dessert I have tried in a while..

Really cool subterranean cocktail bar. Inventive cocktails presented in some of the coolest vessels you’ve ever seen. Drinks are pricey but when you observe the work that goes into each drink, you see why.

When it comes to NYC, a lot of cocktail places are style over substance. You get a sugary boozy cup of slop and they want $30. Not Thyme. This place is special. We went for the Tasting Menu at $85 dollar each - for the service, food and drink, truly outstanding value for money, ridiculously inexpensive. I don't want to spoil what you get but the amuse bouche is truly something that gets your taste buds ready for your 2 curated cocktails and great, really delicious bites. Service was attentive, informative and not thirsty at all. Absolutely perfect. Great ambiance in the room and a lot of people had booked, leaving any walk-ins with a 2 hour wait. Trust me, it's worth your wait. Music was a bit here-and-there but it was at a good level so you could still have conversation. The hubbub in the room was nice and I'm merely nitpicking! Don't waste any more Thyme, book a table now, go all in for the Tasting Menu, and you will be richly rewarded and super satisfied!

I believe this would’ve been a higher rating if we were seated inside, but we didn’t make a reservation in advance, which is on us. However, we were still paying customers but it felt like we were an afterthought. We waited a long time for our server to come around to take our order, then again super long to get our check. The server wasn’t particularly friendly and didn’t quite explain our drinks very well and just said “don’t touch the stem, it’ll stain your hands since it’s edible paint” after my friend had already touched it. The drinks themselves were good, no complaints there, but we were pretty disappointed they were not as advertised on their social media. That would’ve been helpful to note.

This is a really special spot. The aesthetic is everything. The drinks are well-thought out and intricately designed and presented. This is a spot you go to with 1-2 other people max. It's an intimate space. Couples prevail. Go with a reservation or expect to wait 30 minutes to 2+ hours on a weekend evening. The bar is downstairs and upstairs is a waiting area and where you check-in with the host. Expect to pay. This is on the upper end of the cocktail spectrum in terms of price. The taste of the cocktails were a bit hit or miss for me personally, but this is up for debate. It's an enjoyable place, and I recommend it.

More than cocktails ! You’re having a real and exciting experience ! The pairing cocktail with food is perfect. I had so many friends recommending me this place, I had to try and I loved it ! We were a group of 4, were seated at the bar and we enjoyed very very much everything. From the mixologists making our cocktails to the decor … and how they serve our cocktails ! An unforgettable experience, beyond just how delicious the drinks and food were. The tasting menu was fantastic and well worth the price - I highly recommend the Hana Ni Arashi. The presentation was second to none. Our server, Cody, could not have been more friendly, helpful, and attentive in what felt like a very exclusive and intimidating high-end bar at first. We will be back, undoubtedly.

Hands down the coolest cocktail bar I’ve been to in NYC. The cocktails are creative, delicious, and the service was wonderful. We sat at the bar as a walk-in but look forward to trying the tasting menu in the future (if we can finally get a reservation!)

Wonderful speakeasy in Flatiron. Great drinks served in Instagram worthy glasses. Planning to go back soon to try more of them. Service is top notch. Our table wasn't available when we arrived (prior couple were taking their time finishing) so they gave us complimentary champagne while we waited and comped us a round of drinks.

I took the tasting menu with my partner. The menus were pretty worn-out, dirty pieces of card paper. The service was fine but a little stiff. The drinks were beautiful but considering the complexity of ingredients used, the end result was highly underwhelming in terms of flavor. The food was very average quality. The tomato salad was way too large and uninteresting. The tuna tartare was fresh but didn't go well with the cocktails at all. There is a lot of things that need to be refined and improved, especially from the kitchen. The deserts had all run out except for a few eclaires and macarons which were not fantastic either. I would only go here to impress a date with theatrical cocktails or to improve my social media interest.

Due to scheduling etc..I booked this on a night where I also had a play. I unfortunately had to rush myself. Otherwise I would definitely come back here. I thought the food was good(appetizers) and the drinks were phenomenal. Our waitress was awesome. The location is limited space but well decorated and lovely. This is an experience and I think the tasting the way to go on this one.

The best place to have cocktails.

Not recommended . We messaged and they replied . See photos. When we arrived they said wait time is 3 hrs . They never told us that. Then we arrived and they said wait time is 3 hrs and we cannot get in. Would never recommend . When I tired to show the manager her shoved my hand so I can’t show him my messages. Don’t ever recommend to anyone ever .

A must try. The drinks were amazing. We did the experience and it def was an experience. My sister and I were talking about it for days. The peanut butter bourbon was my favorite. I went home trying to figure out how to make or buy my own. Lol.

The waiter was friendly! But the cocktails and ambiance (since it’s called a lounge after all) will be underwhelming for those New Yorkers who have tried some pretty good speakeasies or an interesting decor/chill cocktail bars in the city, i.e. Gitano, Serra, The Polynesian, The Tyger, Patent Pending, Apotheke, Oscar Wilde, Rains Law Room, Dear Irving, Gallow Green, Gilligan’s, etc. Cocktails didn’t even have a full martini sized portion in them, and for the price the flavors were not anything memorable. Lights were bright so definitely not a date spot either (for reference I was there on a Fri night until 10ish). The places I mentioned above have great mixology crafty cocktail menus + ambiance but didn’t need to add plastic decorations in their drinks which are kind of tacky and not good for the planet (one drink had artificial tree ball on top and I see in photos that another had a plastic butterfly lol). You can definitely find a great spot if you do your research..keep scrolling!! :) Edit: happy to hear that the butterfly was made of rice paper :) let’s hope the rest of the decor is edible as well in future!
