The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the Premier Inn, which has its own review page, in the Walnuts Centre, off the High Street and is open to the general public. Dinner Service starts at 18:00 and I had previously booked a table at that time. When I arrived (by 5 minutes past), there were a few customers already seated, but none appeared to have ordered food yet. The menu mentioned a meal deal (as in all Thyme restaurants), which included a starter, main course, drink and breakfast for the following morning at a price of £24,99. I chose Surf and Turf for a main and was a little surprised to be told that, as it included a steak, there was a supplement of £2. When I queried that there was nothing on the menu stating this, the young waitress, said she did not know why that was, but it came up on the bill when she input the details into their system, and that it was set by "Head Office". She appeared to be the only one on duty at the time, and very busy seeing to everything - taking orders, serving drinks and meals, clearing away dishes and glasses, until later, and, in the absence of anyone else being available, I let the matter go. I realised how busy she was when the chef brought my main course rom the kitchen to the table, presumably before it spoilt by standing under lamps for too long ! The following morning I spoke to the Duty Manager who refunded the £2 surcharged. although wasn't the point, really. She said she was already taking the matter up with Head Office, even though I had been the first person to query it. (How many customers never noticed the over charge ?) I decided to add a desert, fr an extra £2, but t only wanted a light one, and asked for the "mini pud and Costa coffee" shown on the menu as 'new', only to be told they didn't have any, even though I was the first person that evening to order a desert. Apparently, Head Office had not delivered any and I was subsequently told that previously happened with other items on the menu. There's nothing the kitchen do to satisfy orders from the menu under those circumstances and most disappointing, but not a problem caused by the restaurant staff ! Now, I have to say that the food served was good and most enjoyable !!! Breakfast the following morning was standard Premier Inn breakfast, although eggs were being cooked to order rather than available from the self-service buffet, with the other hot food.

The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the Premier Inn, but is open to the general public, as it is on one of the pathways into The Walnuts Shopping Centre. Dinner: Service starts at 18:00 and the evening I was there, no one else entered until just before 19:00, so, despite being Friday evening, they weren't too busy ! I chose their meal deal at £24.99 (2 courses, drink and breakfast) but added a desert for £2. I had the potted crab starter followed by sea bass en papillote, both well presented, with the latter well cooked and hot. When I came to pay by card, strangely, I was told they couldn't accept a tip on a card, so they didn't get one, as I didn't have any cash with me. That was a pity as the meal and service was excellent. Breakfast: Starts at 06:30 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends. I arrived about 10 minutes after opening and the restaurant was already very busy. As with other Premier Inn breakfasts, there was the usual array of food and drink, with cooked meals from a buffet, although eggs seemed to cooked to order.

We had Salt and Slate cater for our wedding in June 2024. We held the reception at home with BBQ style menu for our 120 guests. Oliver was very accommodating and allowed us to adapt the menu choices to suit our day. Our guests had nothing but lovely things to say about the food. I was relaxed in the knowledge that the set up, cooking and serving of the food was all taken care of. Thank you Oliver and team! Would highly recommend the for any event.

Fabulous local gem with delicious food! Louis was fantastic from the start, efficiently replying to organise the booking. The sunday roast sides were abundant and scrumptious plus we were thrilled with the vegetarian option. What makes this place special is that you genuinely know the food is homemade and made with passion. The desserts were equally of a high standard with my mum raving about the eton mess. Plus it is all excellent value.
