Traditional quiet pub; no music, no slot machines, compulsory digital detox! The sort of place where you can chat and drink - just like pubs used to be. Strange opening hours and food hours, with not bad cheap beers and friendly South London staff and clientele.

Wev3e played boardgames ay this pub for years. It has a digital detox policy, and its nice to go there to get away from the 'screens'. There is no music either. So you might eother love or hate the atmosphere. I've given it 5 stars for atmosphere because it really suits our needs for playing games, but at the same time if you are looking for the classis 'atmosphere' then you may not find it here. Sometimes though the pub gets busy and there is a wonderful atmosphere here. Also, how's about paying under 4 pounds for a pint! You heard me right. Compared to Crystal Palace pubs that are hitting £7 these days, the Anerley Arms is looking after our wallets as well as our eyes. The pub is equipped with a pool table and a darts table, is dog friendly and the food portions are large and well priced.

Overall a nice pub with lovely, friendly staff. Very reasonable prices, but food needs improvement. Garden currently under renovation but nice tables out front in a quiet street. Also pool tables and lots of space indoors to hang out. Food: Sunday roast was cheap (£12 for chicken) and large portions (I would say too large for an average person with each chicken roast containing half a chicken!). Best bit was the gravy which was one of the nicest that I have tried. The chicken skin was nicely cooked but the chicken itself very dry, and the veggies a bit bland and overcooked (most just boiled).

We used to live right near it so we would go regularly because I could feed the kids for a fiver. The landlord at the time was exceptionally friendly and nice especially once they warmed to you. The landlord has moved on now though. I don't know what it's like now but it used to be an excellent local. The beers were good, you could play pool and they also had some board games. I would say it's extremely family friendly. Only downside would be the lack of accessible loos. You have to go downstairs. I do know they open the garden in summer. You have to sort of go round the back. I can't really fault it for a local to play darts and pool at.

Wow … that has to be one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in ages , from the crispy Yorkshire puddings to the Tender Roast beef that melts in the mouth , it definitely is an understatement finding an establishment that can cook a home made tasting roast to this standard , everything from ordering our drinks and eating our food has been amazing , Anita who served us our drinks and Ian (the pub manager) who also cooked our dinner , its so nice to have this hidden charm in SE London , situated next to Anerley Train Station SE20 , I promise you will enjoy the ambience of the pub , wooden aesthetics and the connection with Sherlock Holmes , they have a good range of drinks as you would expect from a Samuel Smiths pub, just an added bonus here that you don’t get from many other pubs.

Vintage vibe — mobile phones not allowed! I really liked this traditional pub and will definitely be back. I do have a few suggestions for the management (others may disagree). I personally like the "no mobiles" rule that they have, but I think they could do it in a more tasteful manner. For example, instead of having lots of signs taped up on nearly every part of the walls, perhaps just one at the bar and maybe one or two elsewhere? There's a way to get the message across without it being tacky or overbearing. Secondly, I appreciated that there wasn't loud or obnoxious music... But the complete and total silence is a bit... uncomfortable, especially when the pub is quiet. It would be nice if there was just a tiny little hint of music in the background. Maybe even just traditional folk music or classical even, just to add a bit of atmosphere.

I had been travelling all morning to the UK and when I arrived at Anerley station I needed somewhere to work for two hours before my room was ready. I ventured in to Anerley Arms and was told in no uncertain terms I was not allowed to use my Mobile Phone and Laptop. I was tired so decided to have a drink anyway and read the paper. There was a table of loud people swearing and laughing but this was a pub so to be expected. The pub was dingy and not very clean. It was filled with the smell of fried food so not somewhere I could stay for long. I noticed that the table with the loud, swearing people were all on their mobile phones playing videos with music and messaging. I asked the landlord why they could use their mobile phones when I was told I could not. I was told "these are staff so it's ok". I was shocked by these double standards and that they were clearly drunk, loud and swearing. I will certain not be back. The beer was average and the food basic, so not even that made my visit good!

Tucked away in a cul-de-sac off the main road, it's a surprise to see this gorgeous. victorian edifice, unless you're a regular at Anerley Station. Inside, notices up stating that this is an electronic device-free space to encourage social conversation. I wanted to take a photo of the sign for this post but.... Outside rear space with seating unkempt. Leaves everywhere that from their crispy washed-out colour illustrates it's not a priority. East facing it'll only get morning sun anyway. Frontage outside space much more amenable and there are no stairs to negotiate. It's a beautifully decorated traditional pub, spacious and thankfully devoid if sports TVs, music or fruit machines, as it is throughout all the Sam Smith pubs. It's a nice contrast to the norm. Obviously it's all Sam Smith product so don't expect brands. The service was friendly and efficient. I'm afraid I made a mistake asking for a coffee though. Their automated coffee machine needs recalibration for flavour.
