Threlkeld Coffee Shop in Eden

Well, could not have been make to feel less welcome. If you arrive at a premises that shuts 40mins later, you know that a full blown meal is off the cards. We ordered coffee’s and cake, and then witnessed the most obvious displeasure from the staff. Slamming the chairs on the tables around us, sweeping under our feet (30min until closing) the slamming the chairs back on the floor, removing crockery from the table before we had finished, piling the staff coats on an adjacent table to let us know it was home time. I’ve worked in the service industry, I am aware that people want to go home, but you have to expect 15min over door shutting to the public. The attitude has led me to decide not to return, although the wares are good, the experience is key, very poor. Sad, it’s a usual for us, time to broaden our experiences of other places.

Whenever we are in the area we call here after a walk for coffee and cake or a sandwich, never disappoints. Staff are lovely and the views from the cafe breathtaking.

Finished our walk to find this lovely little coffee shop. Sadly they had a burst pipe but the cakes were lovely, the gingerbread cake was to die for so totally recommend that! Dog friendly too and the bus stop is basically right outside if looking to get transport somewhere. Will definitely come back when walking again in the area :)

Second visit here and after a longish walk from the old Keswick railway station, we were more than ready for some coffee and cake. Plenty of choice and I seem to remember I had the Bakewell, I know I enjoyed it anyway. Community shop so good place to get your Keswick gifts.

Walked along the old railway from Keswick and it was busier than we expected. We got a table soon and ordered at the counter. Tea was really good, local supplier from Kendal which I'm really passionate about, and scones were brilliant. Lovely table service too. Dog friendly too and looks like it's being extended

A highlight of our family holidays in Keswick is a cycle or walk along old railway track. The bonus is breakfast or lunch at the village community café. Exceptional food and drinks in modern surroundings looking over the landscape. Home made cakes, soups and bakery.

Very nice clean place Served by the jolliest bunch of people you could wish to meet, I don’t think ! . All in all well worth a visit after a good walk. A little over priced I might add.

Such a wonderful spot for a rest after walking or cycling the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path. The food is beautifully fresh and tasty, the staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere had a great buzz about the place. It's a must. 👍🥳

After walking the Keswick to Threlkeld old railway track we wanted to pay a visit to the coffee shop in Threlkeld. The actual coffee shop attached to the parish church look really nice. I ordered a cappuccino and an Italian hot chocolate (£7.10) Firstly the Italian hot chocolate had hardly no taste due to lack of hot chocolate and my husband actually said it tastes like it’s been made with water and 1 spoonful of hot chocolate powder. My cappuccino was not much better. So much so we would never go in again. Really very poor to use words like “Italian” hot chocolate when in fact it was like water. Just a rip off! So avoid and take your own hot drink in a flask.

Excellent centre, great cakes. We had the teacake and caramel delight (a caramel / fruit / nut covered flapjack. Yum! The car park at the back of the centre is currently closed, but other parking is available.

A great little coffee shop, which also sells local food and crafts. The staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgable. I had a black americano to take away and it was delicious - hot, flavoursome and served in a recyclable/degradable cup.

A welcome cafe at the end of the Keswick to Threlkeld railway Walk. Lovely position with views across the fells, sitting in sunshine coming through large floor to ceiling windows. Had beetroot falafel and cups of tea, very tasty. Friendly efficient service, definitely one to revisit.

What a wonderful place for a halfway stop on a winters walk. Gorgeous food and drink served by warm friendly people who clearly passionately care about what they do. Made the day really memorable. Thank you.

A great little coffee shop, great service with great cakes. Very busy when we were there on a Sunday in early Jan. The car park was closed but worth spending time finding a place to park. Would recommend if you are nearby needing refreshments.

The middle of winter. I come to Threlkeld every 2 weeks for work. Sometimes I go into the cafe. Today I feel the need to share my thoughts - look at the photos to see what you get for £9.05! I asked for an Americano with a very small dash of milk but got effectively a macchiato. It tastes awful because there's hardly any coffee in the milk! As for this bread bun, well... It's cheap and nasty bread. The ham is ok, the drizzle of mustard came from a catering pack squeezie bottle, like you have on your street hot dog. It wasn't cheap though - look at that picture, it was £5.95! Did anybody wash their hands? no! Take note caters, wiping your fingertips on blue roll is not going to kill germs. If you decide to use the Threlkeld cafe, you will have a roof over your head if it is raining but also, you will be sharing the venue with other foolish people who have more money than sense, and probably dogs in the summer when it is busy. More than anything, you will leave the venue knowing that the people working there are laughing at you.

Great location and spacious. Bought two filter coffees and one piece of traybake between us. Although both delicious, just short of £10 is far too expensive. Filter coffee and traybakes are so economical to provide. Unfortunately typical of LD is general. A great cafe, produce and location unfortunately let down by the prices.

Community Cafe which is inclusive and a welcome sight at the end of the Threkeld walk. Situated in the village hall it is a little way from the walk end. Keep going through the village and you will find it. Very busy when we called but looks like an extension is underway which should be completed before the summer. Great coffee and a tasty looking menu although we didn't eat on this visit. Lots of information on local walks this is a working village hall so a great community vibe.

Awful awful service, a couple of the staff were so rude, snappy, no manners, no smile, not welcoming at all… food and drinks were nice, but the staff really need training in customer service, really off putting and wouldn’t recommend going.

A lovely coffee shop with extremely friendly and helpful staff. I’d like to thank the staff for looking after my wife’s bag which she mistakenly left in the cafe. I’d also like to thank the gentleman who drove the local streets looking for us after it was discovered. Thank you Sir! I highly recommend a visit here.

Well worth a stop! Cheese scone with chilli jam, coffee walnut cake, caramel delight, mochas and a hot choc - all were excellent and definitely recommended.

I just stoped for a soup after a fellwalk, the service was amazing, the soup tasty, and couldn't resist not to order the special Christmas wrap with turkey stuffing, pig in blankets, red cabbage and cranberry sauce, simply delicious. And not to mention the locally roasted coffee that they serve.

Always good to get here after a long walk. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly. We always visit when we are in the Lakes!!

Wonderful place to stop for some refreshments at the end of the Keswick to Threlkeld railway walk, before turning around and heading back. Fantastic coffee from Farrars and great cakes. Cheese scone and chilli jam also amazing.

Loved our visit, friendly local staff, happy to see us, great cakes, good coffee and amazing hot chocolate. Wish this was closer to us at home.

Not for biker's!!! Just started to rain when approached the entrance. Not friendly for anyone on bike who would like to stay dry for a moment. Left the bike under the roof on the balcony, within a second, I have been told off by "Manager not owner " I can't not be there without any good reason. The balcony could fit 5 empty tables for four but not me & my dry bike. Sorry but that was the last thing I was expecting after half a day on the bike ... Getting to the point the "Manager needs a bike " maybe will be more happy in general, maybe will be more happy to understand guests/ customers are always right.

I had a very disappointing experience here unfortunately. I came with a party of 6 and everyone I was with purchased a drink and a cake. I bought a drink as well as food and drink for my son. Unfortunately, the coffee shop did not cater to my dietary requirements. This is fine, I always come prepared so I got our some of my own food. I was told I could not eat this in there. I didn’t understand what the problem was, the coffee shop was empty when we arrived and only one other couple arrived whilst we were there. There was plenty of space so I wasn’t taking up a table that was needed for anyone else. It made me feel very upset and unwelcome. I won’t be coming back.

The pancakes and streaky bacon are to die for! I asked for 'cooked hard' and the bacon was perfect!

Arrived at 3.50pm, 10 minutes before closing. Cafe very quiet. Briskly told the machine was off and all we could have was tea. We had to sit outside in the cold on the terrace. I realise it wasn't ideal, but would it have hurt to let us have a hot drink inside?

Fabulous place to eat and chill out after a walk. Even better that it's a community enterprise. Definitely recommend a visit if exploring the Western Lakes. Very dog friendly

Stayed in Keswick and walked the old railway line to Threlkeld, stopped at the coffee shop and had a lovely bacon butty and the best decaffeinated coffee I’ve had, in fact it was so good we called again before leaving for home, the staff were very welcoming of us and our dog, definitely a must to visit if your around the Lakes

This is a lovely community café situated in a pretty village. We visited whilst walking the Keswick tonThrelkeld railway line. The staff are welcoming, helpful and efficient, the food and drinks on offer are of the highest quality and the atmosphere is very jolly. Great place to visit - thank you ladies!

Run by the community and for the community, this is a lovely coffee shop to visit after walking the railway route from Keswick. Seating is available inside and outside, with some of the outside covered. Clean modern toilets in the community building. A good selection of sandwiches, snacks and cakes. The American style pancakes with maple syrup and streaky bacon are very good, as is the soup and filled roll meal deal. The staff are lovely and the service was good.

Delightful & delicious & at the heart of community ..what more do you want? The young woman who served us couldn't have been more helpful or lovely..a big plus when you have special diet requests!

I like coming to this place whenever we visit Keswick. Always a pleasant atmosphere. Dog friendly. Food good, coffee not bad - better than Starbucks imo. Staff always welcoming even when it's busy.

Lovely little coffee shop, with the best cakes

Super little cafe with a few tables in side and plenty of outdoor seating. Good range of simple and honest food. Good selection of drinks. Also, it sells a few of the basic camping essentials. Oh, and the ice creams are yummy. Good place to stop.

We walked from Portinscale through Keswick on the newly updated old railway walk. By the time we got back to the car we walked 14 miles. There and back. The cafe was really good. Nice staff and great scones with jam and cream . Definitely worth a visit. The walk to get there was quite easy, a gentle slope up and quite easy walk back. It may have rained but well worth the walk

Halfway through our walk (Keswick>Threlkeld and back again) and stopped for some drinks and cakes. Lovely little cafe in beautiful surroundings and friendly staff - well worth the the short walk from the end of the trail!

Lovely community based café. Dog friendly. Eat in or out. Good selection of food. Also have second hand bkkos and jigsaws and new local produce, walking books, maps and gifts.

My son and I stopped off for a couple of drinks and I loved this place. ! Delicious coffee and would love to come back again especially as it’s a community enterprise so you feel you are doing a good deed also !

Stopped here after doing the 5k railway walk. Lovely little cafe, home made cakes, nice coffee. But the manager is very rude. On the day they short staffed and were not doing hot food or sandwiches. So I bought 4 slices of cake and 3 hot drinks totalling nearly £25. Sat down and realised that we had some left over sandwiches from our walk. So we along with our cake we had bought, began to eat our sandwiches. Within mins, the manager came over and with a snotty snarling tone told us that we could not eat our own food in the cafe. This was fine but my wife had litterally 2 bites of her sandwich left and she explained this to him but he replied that it was not allowed. He made us feel really unwelcome. He even went as far as to say, that we were giving the customers the wrong impression and he appologised the the table behind us. When we left my autistic nephew said thank you and good bye and they all completely ignored him which really upset him. What a shame as this is a lovely little cafe with tasty cakes and really nice coffee. The manager needs a lesson in customer service.

Super coffee shop, excellent service and absolutely delicious food. Cheese scone, chutney and melted brie, absolute Heaven. Great place to start or finish a walk or just pop in and spend some time marvelling at the slick service in this fabulous place. One not to be missed.

A very good coffee shop with lovely coffee and a good range of partries, cakes and other foods. Good friendly service. The cafe is relatively close to the eastern end of the Keswick Railway Walk and convenient for the bus stops. There is outside seating with views towards Clough Head. Good toilets and a small shop. There are currently building works being carried out in the car park.

Superb cafe! Called here after a soggy walk up Blencathra. This is an absolute gem! Great coffee, fantastic, huge homemade scone, clean loos, great views, lovely staff. Highly recommended!

10/10 excellent customer service, really friendly, the best scones in the area. Loved the used book sales in aid of the local school.

We visited the cafe at the end of the Keswick to Threlkeld converted railway walk. After a very damp but enjoyable walk, all the staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The cafe was well used by walkers and the food and drinks were reasonably priced...

Convenient opening hours as they remain open later than others but in reality they don't really want you there after 4pm! Expensive for a cuppa and traybake - over £6 per person. Useful toilet facility at the hall, forget the coffee shop!

Just had cake and coffee. Cake was dry. I think it might have been a few days old. . Not a good experience; wont go again. Quite pricey for dry cake.
