Great cafe. The bacon and egg breakfast bap is exceptional value for money and the coffee is good. They have a very caring attitude towards elderly clients and clearly there are many regulars, judging by the conversation they have. Lovely place.

4 of us ordered food, 2 jackets, 1 combi platter which all felt like frozen items fried and served with salad, not great but not terrible either. I ordered a cheese and onion pie with gravy as it was on the menu, I just said pie and pointed to it so didn't think to specify, 25 minutes wait later our food turned up and I got cottage pie put in front of me, they offered to change it for me but because everyone else had their food after a wait I felt obligated to accept it and it wasn't nice, the mince had clearly been defrosted as the mince beef clumped up. Felt really shitty eating it as I really fancied a cheese pie. The server hadn't bothered to clarify which pie I wanted not did they repeat the order back to us as the order was taken, poor customer service if you ask me. We won't be back. The venue was nice, the staff were friendly but oversights like this ruin the experience. Cottage pie would have been the last thing I would have ordered, I really really dislike it, but of course I'm too English to send it back. Nor did they offer to knock anything off the bill for the mess up.

After packing up our self-catering cottage we went in search of a good breakfast to set us up for the long drive home. Found this place almost by accident. A big sign said ‘Dogs welcome’. Warm atmosphere. Friendly service. Excellent food and drink. And how lovely that they give customers the opportunity to pay in advance for visitors who cannot afford to buy for themselves.

Went in as we thought it would be really nice independant cafe. Needed food on route to West Midlands. I had chilli chips no meat in the chilli a tin of baked backed beans had been added tasted more like chips and beans at a guess ran out of chilli so put a tin of baked beans in with what was left. Husband had pulled pork covered sweet potato fries pulled pork was very tough and stringy. Coffee very weak even though we asked for strong ones. Place smelt of cooking and dogs. Sorry wouldn’t recommend. Must say the cakes looked good but didn’t have any. Sorry but this sort of food isn’t acceptable.

My wife found this Coffee Shop mentioned on the internet which was somewhat easier than finding it in person. It's located on a side street just off the A6 that riuns through the centre of the town. When we arrived it was around half full- seemingly mainly local people which is always a good recommendation. We order a filter coffee and a hot chocolate- both of which were fine although we resisted the temptation to sample the lovely cakes on offer.

Perfect lunch. Don’t be afraid to follow the sign up the narrowing ginnel from the town centre, this is a gem. Lovely staff, lovely food, perfect menu. We had bacon & butternut soup (with warm roll and butter), a small breakfast, latte and pot of tea for <£16. Spoilt for choice and cake display looked delicious too. Would definitely visit again. Every table was occupied even on a Thursday lunchtime in January, so bet it’s busy in summer. Only one toilet, through narrow doorway, but clean.

Second visit to this wee tearoom this year on our trips from Scotland to Plymouth. Great value for money. Honest home cooked food with lots of safe gluten free options for me as I have coeliac disease. I bought two gluten free home made mince pies to take on the next stage of our trip and they were fantastic! Well worth the detour off the motorway. Really nice staff and a great atmosphere. It’s obvious a lot of their customers are locals which is a great sign. Not the easiest place to find. Up a narrow wee lane or easier if you park in the Bluebell Lane public car park.

Good size teapot, plus welcome water pot, so no short measures as sometimes happens in tea shops. Friendly staff and prompt service. The whole place is well laid out and beautifully clean. An extensive menu, so you are sure to find something you like. If we had to make one criticism - it would be that we were not asked if we had any sandwich preferences. We noticed a sign for this café off a side street which stated they used local produce so that was something that attracted us. We were given a warm welcome and a highchair was given to us for our toddler. First impressions we got was it was very clean and staff were very helpful. We ordered our meals off a menu with a great choice of dishes and a specials board to choose from too. Although they did serve children's meals I asked the lady if they could possibly do a little picnic type platter up for my toddler and this was no problem. Our food came out and was delicious, I was very impressed with the thick carved ham for the little one rather than the usual wafer thin. We did treat ourselves to a dessert and again there was so many to choose from. Before we left we asked if there was baby changing, the lady did state there was a mat in the toilet, this is all there was with no surface to put it on I was lucky I could get my toddler to stand on the toilet while I changed his nappy. Other than that I would highly recommend this place for food or even if you wanted a light bite.

We decided on a late trip out last Saturday to Penrith it is only a short drive for us on the motorway and we haven t been for ages. There are lots of places to eat in the main shopping area but we came across the Three Crowns tucked away down a back alley Our first sight of it wasn t brilliant but the people outside eating advised us it was very good so thought we would give it a go. It was 2 30pm so the place was not busy two people leaving as we went in. I had a cheese, ham and pineapple pannie and my husband had a chicken and stuffing crusty small stick we shared a bowl of chips all of which were tasty and hot . The service was good and at least 6 customers came in after us , there food also looked good. The place was clean and the staff really nice. Price wise was a bargain too with 2 twos and food costing around £16.00! Well done and we will certainly pop in next time we are in Penrith hopefully in the near future.
