Young Lad couldn’t be bothered to do his Job, i asked if I could have pasties in separate bags he huffed and seemed annoyed? I said ‘you seem annoyed?’ To which he didn’t reply. I’m not expecting amazing service but to made to feel like I’m asking for something unreasonable just left me feeling slightly uncomfortable. I’ll go cooplands from now on.

The queues out of the door are testament to how great this bakery shop is. Generously filled delicious sandwiches, gorgeous cakes, and many local delicacies, breads pies and sausage rolls grace their shelves. The ladies in there are excellent, quick to serve and always friendly. A wee bit pricey maybe? But for us we are willing to pay because it’s so darn good. Going for supplies this morning for our long car trip back home! We’ll be back soon! Thank you all.

I have not been here it’s just to say I think their cheese scones available in the high street shops are the best tasting , better than the other pretty famous high street shop with an & in their name ! A really good traditional high street English bakery which doesn't serve fancy patisserie but does what you want, really well. The kind of place you go to once or twice a week for bread and pasties. This is carb heaven for those who like such delights as pizza made with a puff pastry base or iced buns. Their bread is excellent and they can usually slice it for you if needed. They do seasonal and local favourites such as halloween themed french fancies and biscuits. They also do coffees and hot soup in winter, and a pretty good quiche. I miss living round the corner from one and always try to go at Christmas to pick up some Tipsy Imps.

The best place to eat when in York, I was going to join the queue for the well know cafe in York but decided against it and stumbed across this bakers, it had everything you could possibly want and more, the sandwiches are freshly made and very tasty, the sweet treats are huge and amazingly good value for money, I had the chelsea bun but that is because I was starving and could have ate my left arm! for £1.15 it was very worth it, huge and delicious if I wasn't full I would have gone back for another to take home! They had lots to chose from, even the kids said it was the best they had ever tasted and I happen to agree! For a quick reasonable priced lunch head to this bakers, then grab a seat and watch the world go round. Just Perfect!

Thomas the Baker (Acomb branch) offers fantastic food at great prices, there is a brilliant selection of goods and the staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. The only downside is the coffee. They serve delicious coffee in the cafe but the brew they serve as coffee in the bakery is beyond horrible. It has an acidic, bitter, burnt, chemical taste which is just repulsive and lingers in your mouth for ages. I would be very surprised if anyone ever buys a second cup as it is pure poison! I am puzzled why, when what they serve in the cafe is so good, that they don't sort out the bakery version. I know that on the bakery side it is from a machine but many other outlets (Costa machines, Morrisons, Gregg's, etc, etc) still manage to make a pretty decent coffee. Come on Thomas's get it sorted - it can't be that hard!

There's a butcher less than a minute's walk away FFS! 'Breakfast' eventually came, served begrudgingly by someone who obviously resented our presence. Rubbery hours if not days old bacon, nasty cheap baked beans, a few slices of what appeared to be microwaved tomato and cold scrambled egg. Side plate with a single slice of cold toast. Beyond excellent customer service. I've used this bakery a lot and the staff were always lovely but today my husband and I (and the dog, Jasper) went into Acomb for a couple of errands. The queue for him to have his haircut was longer than expected and I found myself wandering around Acomb with Jasper. After a while I decided I'd tie him near the door of the bakery and wait till there was no queue and run in and grab some food and a drink and come back out (he's a very nervous dog, with a Nervous harness, and he gets separation anxiety in new places). As I was tying him to the door and waiting until everyone else had come out so I could run in, a member of staff came to the door and asked if she could get me something so I didn't have to leave the dog unattended. Now I know this seems a small gesture to some, however I thought this act of kindness and thoughtfulness was just amazing. We rarely ever leave Jasper tied up alone outside as he gets so upset and 9 times out of 10 we take supplies with us when we know we'll be out for a while so this was a rare occurrence where I found myself needing some water and food so I could take my tablets. When I handed over the money I said to keep the change as I really appreciated her thoughtfulness and whilst it was only around £2 in change, I wanted to thank her.. but as I walked away she said it would go in their Dementia charity tub which I thought was even more lovely. This bakery has truly brilliant staff who are only too happy to help out. And as always, the baked goods are always delicious!
