Delicious food, exceptional value for money. Customer service was also spot on. Would recommend to everyone.

I had the steak pie plenty of it and tasty My daughter had the lasagne it was a bit dry waitress said she would mention it to the chef

Quick friendly service. Only downside was the burger bun was very dry and crumbled in your hand. Everything else was good as always is.

Was at the theatre so dropped in here for a few drinks and a light bite. Staff were exceptional, so welcoming, menu is not the most adventurous, but some classics on there/blast from the past. Food was all good and at a reasonable price, cant emphasise enough how friendly the staff were on a Sunday afternoon.

Booked for 8 of us for lunch. Lovely window seat and we all ordered soup which was delicious served with chunky bread and butter. Old peculiar went down very with 3 of the group. We asked about a rose wine and was offered a taste of it before we bought it. A very nice gesture. So thanks very much to your lovely staff and the ones in the kitchen for our tasty lunch.

Really warm welcome, staff courteous and cheery. Had the hanging steak kebab with chips. Food was ok ,probably priced right. Seating was not very comfortable and it wasn't very warm. Toilets really let this place down. If I had gone in before I ate I would never had ordered food.

We came here for my daughters birthday weekend when we went to York from Manchester . The food was really well presented . My husband had the steak pie and it was full of steak, it was amazing !

The experience was pleasant under testing circumstances for the restaurant as the pub was suffering from flooding from the neighbouring river. Food is ok regular pub grub nothing more but it serves a market

It was mine and my girlfriends first time visiting York and Plonkers was the first place we'd eaten at and it was such a nice experience! The food was outstandingly good and the service was really friendly. We both left feeling full and found the experience really inviting and we felt at home with the good selection of music that was playing during our meal. Would definitely visit again, can't recommend enough! 10/10

Great Sunday lunch. Small pub lots of atmosphere. Worth booking as it does fill up. Near town and the river. Good ales on offer too.

A cosy cute pub, ideal for having a nice lunch or just to have a drink while you’re out in York. There are a lot of steps though so if you can’t manage any, there are no lifts or ramps here as it’s quite small. Cosy and charming!

Food served was very poor, sent soup back twice as it was inedible. Lasagna poor. Eaten here for the last 4 years on our annual Xmas shopping trip. Won’t be using again Staff really tried to accommodate tho, not charged for soup and we were given a 10% discount, but one of our party left very hungry after not been able to eat.

Went in for Sunday lunch whilst visiting York for the Christmas Market. The Sunday lunch was delicious, Roast Beef and a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was so tasty as where the choice of vegetables. My other half got the lasagne, chips , salad with garlic bread. Both meals were very filling. Visited Plonkers many times over the years and we are never disappointed.

Superb ! Welcomed with open arms by the beautiful & bubbly Betty. Showed to our table, menus and all served personally. Fast efficient service. No rushing. Betty can multi task that can put us all to shame. Always with a lovely smile .. food was fantastic , lots of it , hot & tasty. Drinks great and all very reasonable. A real York treasure. It might be tucked away but recommend you check it out . Definitely recommend 🌟

Perfect place for a sociable lunch after lots of Christmas shopping. Lovely wine, tasty food and very pleasant staff, can thoroughly recommend it.

Disappointing lunch.The ciabatta was stale and soaked in oil.The contents were minimal and my mothers bacon wasnt cooked.Wasnt impressed for the price.

Lovely food, steak and ale pie was gorgeous, great music and lovely atmosphere, good friendly staff and good service. Was a little draughty when the doorman hooked the door open for a bit but the girls behind the bar went to close it.

Try the beef and ale pie it is absolutely stunning !!! If we loved closer we would definitely come back more often ! Fast forward to a year back again OUTSTANDING !!!!

Our food was amazing! So tasty and all dietary requirements met including a last minute change from the chef which gave me great confidence that my needs were met re CC. The venue was very busy but we were seated promptly and never had to wait for food or drinks. A lovely evening!

We had food which was very quickly delivered a reason why I think it may have been microwaved and then chips added . It was hot though and plenty of it and tasted good . Then it went downhill rapidly , before leaving I paid a visit to the bathroom and really wished I hadn't before I'd even opened the door the smell hit me it smelt like no cleaning products had been shown anywhere in there for ages I'm not talking someone had been in and made a smell I mean dirty I won't describe the stench but it was bad enough for me to not even go in my friend confirmed the same when she went up and came straight back down .

We were desperate for a Sunday roast, we were able to book a table an hour beforehand. It was delicious, my son had a pizza which was delicious. The roast the rest of us had lived up to expectations 😋. The staff were all so friendly. Would highly recommend.

We were disappointed when we visited. We were seated upstairs next to the window with a view of the bins. There was no atmosphere, it was very mundane decor and the staff looked bored. The food wasn’t amazing and for the price was very disappointing.

Great venue ......sent to Royal opera House and its 1 minute walk away. Service was impeccable even tho it got busy and all very helpful.

absolutely awful experience yesterday ordered the hanging chicken skewers which was cold! waitress took it away to get another one,whilst my partner was eating he’s sweet potato chilli which was very tasty apart from the shard of plastic! the waitress was very apologetic and said it was a new chef this is not a good excuse as plonkers have a duty of care to serve food that is safe to consume!! we paid for the wine and left

Great lunch. Plonkers has a natural atmosphere helped by its cellar location and natural brick walls, so it doesn’t need to be packed to feel atmospheric. Food was great, service was prompt and everyone left happy!

Food very nice, but was rather disappointed that there was no steak, no steak & ale pie, no lasagne, for a Sat night really didn't think that was good! What we had was nice, but would liked something more than a burger

Good was excellent. I had the chilli con carne and my husband had the lasagne, both were excellent meals and very filling. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the price was very reasonable.

We were amazed by their Sunday Carvery (aka Sunday Roast). The gravy was soooooooo flavourful and the Yorkshire Pudding was perfect. We had their pork and chicken for our Sunday Carvery - both juicy and tasty. The portion was really good and the variety of the vegetable was impressive. The Fish and Chips wasn’t bad as well, but the Sunday Carvery was definitely the star of the meal. Will definitely go back in the future!

Sorry to say, I believe I was food poisoned at this establishment yesterday. Ordered bread, salad, hummous and olives. Before that I had eaten only a croissant and coffeee. Throughout the day I felt really ill, resulting in staying all evening at the hotel.

I booked a table for myself after googling best places to eat near the Grand Opera House. I was met by friendly and helpful staff. My table was ready even though I was a bit early. Food choice was good, I chose the homemade lasagne which was lovely. I felt at ease and really enjoyed my dining experience at Plonkers. I will definitely be visiting again.

On short break with friends, this pub was just across from our hotel, not too busy, I did book a table, just in case. Friendly service from staff, good food, especially the pie and chips, a good size portion, no room for pudding! Reasonable price.

I visited this wine bar not having any idea what it was going to be like and I was delighted. The staff were friendly and I had the best and biggest burrito I have ever eaten. Their Plonkers lager was great too. Highly recommended.

Just went for a drink but ended up having a light snack of chicken pate - huge amount and very filling. The outside is deceiving.

Welcoming place. Hot food. Had the pie, very good size and meat tender. Just ask for gravy separately when ordering, if you dont want it, it poured all over.

We had lunch at the Plonkers riverside drinking & dining area and had a good time. Craft beer , nice and cold. Loaded Nachos, very good Prices , fair. Staff , welcoming and swift service. Location, you can't beat it. No hesitation in recommending.

I went here for a roast dinner with my husband on a trip to York and we booked here as there were good reviews on food blogs which reviewed all local restaurants who offered roast dinners. So glad we did as the food was lovely! Portions are huge and service was great and very quick! Would definitely come again if we visit York again and highly recommend to others!

Definitely more pub than restaurant. It was fine, we got a table on a very busy evening and we're found an alternative table to move to when the DJ was setting up. Good atmosphere. Food great.

Decided to eat here based upon previous reviews and so glad we did. Service was efficient and friendly and the food was hot delicious and plentiful. Nice ambience in the bar with background music that wasn’t intrusive.

Arrived a little early, but no issue, table was ready. Staff unbelievable, working so hard on a busy Sunday afternoon. Food arrived very quickly after ordering and was fantastic. Could not fault any aspect at all.

Very disappointed in my experience here. Had booked with Open Table although this booking was not received by the Bar. Due to the late booking (8.45 and website advertises menu available until 9pm) starters were no longer being offered. We had our dog with us and were sat close to the bar. Sadly there was a very loud and rude customer in during our entire visit. Whilst I appreciate staff can not always be responsible for the behaviour of customers there has to come a point where the other diners experience is given consideration. This gentleman most definitely should have been asked to tone it down if not to leave altogether. My husband and I finished our meal very quickly and left feeling rather let down by the whole experience.

Had an amazing meal here tonight. The meal was beautiful. We had mussels, steak and chicken kebab. Food was perfectly cooked. Service amazing.

Lovely bar and food, me and my mate saw this and decided to give it a try. Our first thought was Rodney Trotter from Only Fools and Horses. This gave us the extra incentive to give it a go. I had lovely fish and chips and a nice pint. Only a few hours later we saw a pub called the Nags Head. It's like that episode where Densil says Delboy is haunting him in "to Hull and back". Only Fools is haunting us and I wouldn't have it any other way 😉

Really good relaxed dining experience, staff were very friendly and helpful, great choice of food and drink, food was very good value for your money. So overall good from start to finish. Big thanks to all at Plonkers.
