What an amazing hidden gem in Whitstable! I was warmly welcomed by the owners of this delightful family, independent business😌Lauren & Tamsin went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable from where I sat, to the music and the temperature. I felt very looked after, like I was visiting friends🤗I opted for a selection of small plates. Each and every one was delightful! Being gluten & dairy free, Lauren went out of her way to adapt the dishes to my exact liking. They were all delicious with an authentic, south East Asian twist. From the Vietnamese prawn rolls, to the best chicken goujons I’ve ever had! The squid was👌🏽 I highly recommend this restaurant for locals and tourists alike! Thank you Lauren & Tamsin for your friendly conversation, care and excellent customer experience. I really enjoyed my dinner with you. I hope your business goes from strength to strength✨

Some of the best food we’ve ever eaten! We are devastated to have been just visiting the area, and would highly consider coming back just for this place! There were several gluten free/vegan options, and Lauren went above and beyond to accommodate my gluten allergy. Prices were fair, cocktails were amazing, and we had wonderful and prompt service from Roy. This level of hospitality cannot be beat, I would recommend to anyone.

Came across this place on walk back to our Airbnb. It was completely empty and we debated going in but we weren't disappointed. The staff were lovely and we had a nice meal of gyozas , short rib croquettes, crispy cauliflower bites ,squid and Asian slaw. Reasonably priced drinks. I would definitely eat there again !

Food took 40 minutes to make a burrito. No apology or management of the situation. Got up to ask twice. Same song playing on a loop the entire hour we were there. Completely empty place. Off duty staff talking at the back of the room. Nobody to pay at the end. Nearly 30 pounds for two Breakfast Burritos and a concentrated orange juice.

My daughter booked this venue for her twins 1st birthday party. The venue was fantastic and the food brilliant. Also the staff worked so hard and could not do enough for us, was a brilliant day, will definitely be going back.

It's a okay place overall. The food is overly expensive for the amount and they are retiring the pork belly, which is one of my favourite dishes there. It has a nice sitting area though.

This is a real hidden gem, up the high street away from the town centre. Food was fantastic, we had a selection of the small plates, and some fully loaded chips....all delicious. The beer and wine is very fairly priced for Whitstable, and the food is great value too. The waitress who looked after us was friendly, helpful and professional. First visit for us, will definitely be back.

Place with excellent value for money but limited food selection. Anyway the food was great and portions were of good size. The ambiance of the place is not yet complete, I guess.

Without any doubt, the best full English breakfast in town, and I've tried many. The bacon is superb.

we had the teriyaki burgers and the loaded fries. the fries were absolutely delicious as was the burger. While we were waiting for a driver to be assigned the chef offered to deliver it herself if we were waiting any longer. Super kind offer! would much recommend eating here!

the delivery time kept changing, originally said 7:15pm, then 7:40, then 7:55. delivered at 8:12pm. if we knew it would be over an hour, I would've ordered elsewhere

Unfortunately, this is the third time I have visited and the service is dreadful! One young chap is lovely but he seems to do it all! Some girls wander around on their phones and sometimes serve. They wear their coats too 🤷🏻‍♀️ Not professional. We were going to have more drinks but we thought the wait would be too long. Food good, when it arrived.

Came here for brunch with a couple buddies and was not disappointed! I had some lovely Classic Style French toast and a gorgeous Latte made by the lovely barman Blake. Would defo recommend😊

Could be great but not quite there yet. We’ve been in 3 times now as we want to support the local restaurants and bars. Each time, the service has been slow. Last time, we waited 5-10 mins to order and then my husband waited 15 minutes more for his 1 single beer to arrive. I didn’t review that time. But this week, we brought 6 people for food and drinks and the wait was very slow. We were told that 4 meals on the menu were not available. The drinks came at different times and so did the meals. 1 person had finished by the time another got their meal. Lovely decor and it’s in a great position so it could be better with improved service.

Visited for late lunch today, menu looked varied with a choice of small plates or 3 variety of burgers. Opted for the Pork Belly Board which was nice but very small for £15, small pieces of pork with a board covered in lettuce & spring onion, had Asian loaded fries with it which were very nice. Cocktails expensive at £9.50 each! The staff were friendly but service was slow and only two other tables in there.

Pretty poor service. The chef didn't turn up until nearly lunch time so none of us were able to order breakfast. The coffee was average and attention to detail in terms of customer service was ropey.

Mixed feelings on this place. Predominately, the menu is a lot of ‘fried’ stuff. The Gochujang chicken wings were immense. It was really very tasty, and the chilli heat was hot as you’d expect nicely packed with fresh chilli. Wish we had just ordered 2 or 3 portions of these. Mac and cheese bites were ok but again ‘fried’. I think mac and cheese as it is “originally” is better. The loaded fries were very tasty, and a portion to share between 2 is plenty, but the chicken burger was a bit bland, and you guessed it, fried. The bottle of white wine wasn't chilled. We were given a wine cooler and a glass of ice to add but not the same as an already chilled bottle. Service was ok it was pretty much empty, so there was not much atmosphere when we visited but did spot the venue was packed with a band or disco the following evening. Would go back for the wings and dirty fries, but skip the rest.

Read some great reviews about “Thirty Nine” so had to try out what the praise was all about. Having lost a couple of decent Cafe’s in Ashford recently we reserved a table and travelled up. Service was welcoming and we were early from our reserved time which was no issue. Ordered our Coffee’s and food. 20 minutes or so for the food to arrive. Fisherman’s and an English Breakfast. Fisherman’s arrived complete and looked great and was enjoyed. English was Without Egg due to breaking during cooking and were preparing others meanwhile. Baked Beans were cold but the Tomatoes and Sausage were really nice. Coffees were good. Great potential but just need some minor improvements for 5 stars. Thank you. Extra Bacon and Mushrooms were deducted from the bill on account of cold beans. We’ll be back when passing. Thank You.

We were hoping for breakfast but arrived after the 11.30 cut off, however we were still allowed to order from the breakfast menu and had the Vegetarian burrito which was delicious and we will certainly be back for more. Good coffee and friendly service added to the experience.

AVOID! Food undercooked! Poor Service! OWNERS CLUELESS. As a local I would have love see this venue succeed but they have ripped customers off, served food raw and services takes ages!

Ok ok so yea my wife and I have been here 4 or 5 times now, it's the new cool place to go in whitstable and they throw really fun partys we've been told (not we get to party anymore). The food is delicious with a really good menu and massive range of different flavours. The decor is wicked and super comfy, but more than anything the staff are super duper friendly and kind and helpful. I really cannot recommend this place enough. A smashing edition to a wonderful town.

come down to thirty nine it’s a hidden gem. i am a fussy eater and told the waitress honey and the chefs accommodated to my acquirement of taste and the dish was delicious. the staff where friendly and accommodating to my need. highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Food was really lovely, and the portions were enormous. The waiter was very friendly, sadly the waitress didn't speak much English. She seemed very sweet, but the waiter had to do all the work.

Always a warm welcome and a very nice cocktail selection. And the dog loves it.

Came in for a quick coffee during our walk around Whitstable. Was greeted at the bar and our order was taken (one tea and one coffee). We were told to take a seat. After 25mins drinks had still not arrived, despite them serving three take away customers who ordered after us. As we got up to leave and told the waitress, she seemed surprised we were leaving. Was a real shame as it looked nice from the outside.

Basic food lovely friendly service.

I only stopped in to meet with a work colleague. The coffee was good and I had no problems getting a seat. I've never been here before but would like to return perhaps for food next time. They had heating which was also a bonus as my previous planned venue didn't which ultimately led me to Thirty Nine.

The amazing food melted my mouth it was so delicious and i’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends and family.

We all had a very tasty meal at Thirty Nine. It was especially nice for me, as a coeliac, to have so many gluten free options. We told the restaurant in advance about me being coeliac and they changed the oil in the fryer so it wouldn't have traces of gluten in which was amazing. They were very knowledgeable about which items I could eat and found alternatives. They use gluten-free soy sauce in the sauces which means I could eat most things anyway! The restaurant looks really nice inside, the staff are very friendly - we stayed for a few drinks afterwards. Will definitely be going back!

Good as always delicious & good size portions. Delicate Asian influences with a variety of small plates to choose from. Large space great for families, pushchair etc, dog friendly. Cost was average. I saw they also had an art exhibition and space/equipment for holding parties etc. On reading more the restaurant also has live music, DJ nights/brunch & movie nights. Great local venue 👍

This is the third time I've eaten in here now and have never been disappointed. Food very tasty with a great choice from Asian light bites to Katsu curry burgers. Surroundings very comfy with some lovely sofas to lounge about on. Staff all polite and attentive. A good time had by all

This restaurant does not really know what it is supposed to be. The food was below par, off. The restaurant smelt of fried food, atmosphere was sub zero. Staff took umbrage to our feedback about the pork belly board - and clearly shared that openly with the rest of the team.

This is truly a hidden gem. We had a lovely warm welcome. We just wanted small plates and drinks. What an amazing choice! The coconut prawns were really delicious! Wine served with a flourish. We will definitely return.

I ordered GF food and although they were amazing and called up to check my reason behind it, which was coeliac. After eating the food which was lovely, my boyfriend also loved his food. I have experienced symptoms which makes me worry that the food was either cross contaminated or something as shortly eating after I’ve suffered.

Wonderful vegan and vegetarian food options. I particularly loved the vegan bánh cuốn and would recommend without hesitation. Good cocktails, I had a basil smash which was full of fresh basil - delicious 😋 and also tried the French 75 - also delicious. Very dog friendly place, we have senior dogs and use a dog pushchair for them and there was plenty of room to fit us in. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was very quiet but very attentive service from the staff. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Whitstable.

Came here earlier to watch Gypscazz! The band were great, the cocktails were the best I’ve tasted in whitstable and the food was amazing! Full of flavour! I had the seabass Goujon’s and the teriyaki burger and they were 10/10! Can’t wait to come back!

Popped in on a Sunday morning, it was just us and another couple only. The waitress was pleasant, however, she didn’t speak any English so the encounter was a little awkward. Drinks came quickly and were fine. We ordered a mocha and a flat white, nothing special but nothing to complain about. We ordered food at the same time, we had one avocado on toast with smoked salmon and a poached egg & one English breakfast with double sausage, egg and bacon; both of which came as were listed on the menu. We waited around 40 minutes for the food to come out. The avo/salmon/eggs was very generous with the avocado and the smoked salmon was good quality but unfortunately the toast was not toasted and the egg yolk was hard. The full English came with cold mushrooms and the sausages were void of any fat/juiciness. The rest was average. Overall, I can’t say we’d recommend. It cost £35 for two breakfasts and 2 coffees so would’ve expected it to be a bit better.

Visited the restaurant for dinner with 2 friends. Although the gentleman and waitress serving were very polite and friendly, service was really slow even though there were only 2 other groups at the restaurant. On her way to the toilet, my friend saw a very messy kitchen. Tried to order drinks but was told they didn’t have them at the time. Then overheard other customers ordering from a cocktail menu which we weren’t offered. The next day we all had a really bad tummy - unfortunately definitely wouldn’t visit again.

Thirty nine hours later and still waiting on a breakfast! When it eventually did arrive they got our order wrong. Won't be rushing back.

The BEST cocktails in whitstable, incredible tasting food as well lots of small plates with an Asian style cuisine. 1000% recommend. The whole place is such a vibe with the fairy lights, fresh flowers, candles and some really cool art of sale on the walls.

Went to see the Secret Gig Band - they were truly brilliant. We were all up and dancing, a really great buzz. Really hope you rebook them. Also had the Katzu burger which was very tasty. All the staff were very smiley, helpful and lovely....

What an absolute gem of a place. As a coeliac eating out isn't always a pleasure. This place not only had gluten free (GF) marked on the menu but the owner/chef came out and spoke to me about how they cook with separate fryers etc....

Very slow service relative to the number of people there. The pulled jackfruit board was pleasant but considerably overpriced when you consider the volume of food I received. Nice to try a new place but I won't be returning here in a hurry.

We arranged a regular community group coffee morning on a trial basis here. At first owner seemed lovely and friendly and accommodating. We were asked to arrive early the first time as we were a group to help avoid the lunchtime rush. We waited 30 minutes outside because they weren’t open. Then we got told staffing issues etc. the service was slow and some of our group left and cancelled their orders. Due to the place being nice and the menu being good we thought it was a few teething problems. The owner asked us if we could pre order or order as a group at the next meeting due to the kitchen being small and not being able to keep up with orders etc. Pre ordering was not an option for us as we don’t know who will come on the day so we asked all members to order as a group to make things easier. Service was still really slow even on the drinks which aren't made in the kitchen. When food finally arrived the order wasn’t right. One of our members was quite rightly a bit direct with the owner about waiting over an hour for a sausage sandwich which then wasn’t the right order. Unfortunately the owner became very defensive and didn’t handle the situation very well and was quite rude. She then called the leader of the group into the kitchen and said she would refuse to serve our members because they were being rude to her. It was pointed out that she had the right to refuse service but she would need to refund our members and we would postpone a third session with them pending us finding an alternative venue. The venue is quite large and a small kitchen is not an excuse for poor service and management skills especially when you wait over an hour for a drink. 3 months after not returning to run a group there the manager emailed us claiming that she was £150 out of pocket due to getting extra staff and food for our group and how disappointed she was we didn’t contact to say we weren’t coming…. Well given that we hadn’t returned for 3 months I’m not sure why she thought we would be coming back. Sadly I cannot recommend this place. The owner needs to address the poor service, excuse about size of the kitchen (it’s not your customers problem that you can’t cater to the number of covers you have space for) and bad attitude.

We were looking for a place to go with the baby and dogs. We had excellent service, loads of space to spread out and the food was delicious. Big shout out to the french toast and Asian inspired plates. Something for everyone! They serve alcohol as well as good coffee.
