Arrived to a very loud and noisy bar to find out our table was next to the door, across from the bar and next to noisy drinkers. We waited 15 mins for a drink although the drinkers at the bar where served ahead of our drinks order.....we knew then we had made a mistake! The food was excellent we both cleared our plate but atmosphere, service and attention to detail was lacking. Would not return in the immediate future.

A beautifully located pub with country charm. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to make our visit a success. The food, wow, what a treat! Beautifully presented and complements to the chef at the quality and presentation of the food. Food was hot and plentiful, lovely selection of desserts. Wine beautifully chilled. All in all, I will definitely be going back. 5 stars from me.

Wow wow wow!! Awesome service, the two lads were very accommodating and couldn’t do enough. The food was one of the best meals I have ever had. The pork belly melted in my mouth followed by a stunning rich chocolate fondant. 100% recommended!!! 5 star all day long!! Can’t wait to go back!!!

We visited in 2022 with friends and on arrival were told the pub was shut due to a power outage….although suspiciously the lights were still on. Still hopeful I booked again in June 2023 as part of a hiking holiday. Booked last weekend, received a chasing email yesterday to confirm and they even took a deposit. 5 hrs before our booking we received an email saying our booking had been cancelled. No courtesy call or anything. I called them and they didn’t answer but upon chasing they responded that the pub had been shut for months on a Wednesday, they hadn’t updated their website or their booking system so we’re not opening. So frustrated as we had walked 13 miles to get here and organised our whole trip around this venue. Terrible customer service and terrible communication. In an age where we are constantly being reminded to support our local pubs perhaps some local pubs could stop taking us for granted as well and get their admin and customer service in check!!! Booked twice and had booking cancelled twice!!! Terrible

We’ve been to The Duck a few times and the food had always been excellent. However, this Sunday lunch we ordered the Roast Beef and unfortunately it was tough and stringy, not pleasant at all to eat. A shame, since I took my whole family there and recommended the place heartily - but they were all disappointed by how chewy the meat was.

We had the Sunday roast lamb with all the trimmings, it was really lovely couldn’t fault it. We did think it quite pricey for what it is, especially as the pub itself is nothing fancy and could do with a refurb (especially the garden). Overall good food, good service, worth a try.

The food was ok for a pub meal however we were expecting something a bit more special from this rather highly rated place. No particular atmosphere. The waiters were quite formal and a bit pushy for ordering more. Our white wines were served too chilled even for white wines. Getting there through narrow lanes was a bit of a challenge.

The Duck is a great traditional country gastropub serving modern, traditional British food. The pub has a fairly remote location in a little village about 5 miles from Canterbury. Its unassuming exterior reveals a cosy, simple yet elegant interior with scrubbed oak tables, an open fire, a beautiful garden and views across the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed a 3 course dinner here on a Saturday evening. Whilst the food was really good there were a few minor issues with our mains. We started the evening with the tempura local cod which came with a creamy and rich Durban curry mayonnaise, lime and coriander which was absolutely delicious. Then for mains we had the slow roasted pork belly with roasted carrots, carrot puree, greens, burnt apple purée and mash and the 30 day aged ribeye steak with a mixed leaf salad, truffle and parmesan fries. The presentation was excellent and the dishes were flavoursome with generous portion sizes but the steak was cooked more medium than medium rare and one of the pieces of pork was over cooked and a little dry and chewy with an impenetrable piece of crackling which was virtually impossible to cut. For dessert we enjoyed the spring berry Eton mess with raspberry sorbet washed down with a glass of Chateau Delmond Sauternes 2018 which were both superb. The staff looked stressed and were a little unfriendly at times. There were only two members of staff covering both the bar and restaurant and whilst there were only a few tables occupied they were clearly struggling. Sadly this is a reflection of the times with the hospitality industry in general struggling to find and retain staff. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal and the fine dining experience. The menu is forward thinking and innovative and the chef is clearly very talented. The prices are very reasonable and apparently they do the best Sunday roast here for miles around which, of itself, is a great reason to return (and that we will most definitely be doing).

Gem of a country pub! Family dinner, perfect in every way! Food was delicious, service was fabulous couldn’t fault! Hard to choose from the menu. All sounded amazing. Outstanding chicken liver parfait, braised beef on toast. Hake, lamb and 1Kg rib Beef , Parmesan truffle fries to die for! All devoured. Even fitted in room for dessert. Or should I say inhaled. The guys are doing an amazing job. Highly recommend.

So disappointed. From the minute we walked in it wasn’t going well. Despite booking we were placed in the draughtiest table next to the door rather than the restaurant. Took ages for the staff to take our order and we had to ask for a replacement side plate because it was chipped. Food was ok but nothing amazing. Dinner was served and had clearly been sitting on the pass as it wasn’t very warm. Lamb was well cooked but not sure what the brown rectangle it was sitting on was. In total it took 2 1/2 hrs for our meal and we are not slow eaters. The service was very slow and I was told that was because there was only 2 staff. Hint: you need to employ more staff and train them properly. Final straw was to find the tap in the gents toilet wasn’t working so unable to wash hands. Not only unacceptable but probably illegal in terms of H &S.

Whist on a walking holiday with friends, we stumbled across this sweet little pub. Upon entering, we saw three tables of twos eating (seemingly very quiet) and two bar staff who told us we couldn’t eat before we had even finished walking through the door. When asked for a drink, one bar staff (male) was friendly whilst the female seemed totally inconvenienced saying there was only one person in kitchen and only the two of them on the floor. Me and friend went up to the bar to order whilst the woman was behind and she did not look at us in the eye and continued pottering. A couple walked in and whilst they were also ignored for a couple of minutes, they were then welcomed and offered their seat, water etc. Eventually, we had to ask the woman if she could come back and serve us. She was very blunt and said we had to wait. If the place was busy, we wouldn’t have minded but it was quiet. Once served the drinks, we asked if we could have a portion of chips. Again we were told no with no apology. My friend and I kept looking at one another because her rudeness was totally out of place for such a quiet, sweet pub. The card machine didn’t have a secure wifi connection and without apologising, we were told to redo, twice before we offered them cash. It was all a bit bizarre. Clearly the staff couldn’t cope with service and we suggest more competent / more staff.

Gracias ??

This quaint country pub is a real gem. Tucked away in the small village of Pett Bottom, you’d easily miss it, but it’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Amazing food with a real friendly welcome! Would recommend booking as it seems to be very popular!

The food is reasonably interesting but overall the Duck is more expensive than it is worth. Other restaurants in the area are noticeably better value. Little effort is made to provide a C-19 secure environment - waiting staff do not wear masks, visors or gloves and get needlessly close to customers. Possibly the building is too small to organise effectively for current needs, which should be made clear to customers in advance.

Grew up nearby in Barham and have been coming to the Duck for years This is the best I've ever seen it. Pub full for Sunday lunch, Covid measures in place and great selection of drinks. Had a perfect hour in the garden chatting to my dad over a very well-kept cask-drawn ale from Romney Marsh and watching the beautiful thoroughbred horses in the meadow next door, and then the landlady let us have some cooking apples from their tree to take away. Thanks! Really enjoyed being there and will be back again soon.

The food was Devine the portions were massive I did attempt to eat it all but failed very sorry to the Owner, Chef Dean for my failure. I can recommend the roast beef and the creme brûlée was to die for although hope that does not happen as plan to take my son and his wife there very soon.Ps did try my wife’s Pork tenderloin and my daughter flourless Chocolate cake both mouth watering. Thank you to all at The Duck Inn for a great meal

Visited this little gem of a pub nestled in to the beautiful Kent countryside for lunch yesterday 13/8. From the swift and efficient booking made with Becky to the outstanding service delivered by Emma and Dean the food was at a different level. Wow wow wow. Just talented use of local fresh products. Pork belly just melted in your mouth. Hats off to Callum for the Cheesecake!! Truly amazing. In summary make sure you book and turn up because this place is small cosy but with enough space to feel relaxed. Thanks again for making our lunch special. Graham and Michelle.

Visited today (14th aug) as part of my staycation, put simply a lovely country pub which has a talented chef at the helm. I had rib eye, with triple cooked chips, an amazing citrus salad, and my wife had Moules Mariniere, both were simply fab. great ingredients, well cooked.. fab, the beer garden overlooks a field full of roaming horses too.

We had a lovely meal with heaps to choose from on a great menu! Welcoming staff team with a nice buzz both inside and outside in the adjoining gardens. Fantastic drinks menu, particularly gins with a really easy 700m walk back up the hill to our delightful abode on Broxhill Farm.

Another brilliant meal here, this time in the garden enjoying the amazing views of the surrounding hills and the horses in the field next to the pub garden. We all had three courses and the food was sensational and the puddings are worth saving some space for!

Dropped in for a swift Saturday lunchtime 'sharpener ' with wife last weekend. There were plenty of happy looking diners enjoying their food in lovely surroundings, we just had a pint each. The staff serving us were warm, welcoming and friendly, especially for 'drinkers' in a food pub. My Old Dairy IPA was in perfect condition, my wife's Curious Brew Cider was delicious.....so a different and better drink product range than many surrounding pubs, and truly nice staff. Well done guys, we will come back to feast soon.

Once again an excellent lunch at the Duck. We had the veggie wellington, which was delicate and rich - excellent pastry and mushroom sauce. The fish was also good and the deserts were fabulous!

Just so you know I hate balsamic vinegar glazes. So for next time please don’t offer any or include it. Other than that awesome thanks

Great little cafe with a lovely ambiance serving quality coffee and teas. Loved the cheesecake. Service was very friendly with no pressure to leave despite being just after closing time. Frankly a breathe of fresh air
