The service here is really great, the lady serving us was very friendly and also extremely helpful giving advice on dishes and drinks etc. The food itself is beautifully presented and was delicious. The restaurant has a peaceful atmosphere and is just right for a relaxing evening meal.

Just had a horrendous meal there 41 pound curry that hot couldn't eat it chicken caesar salad no sauce lettuce only and water on the bottom of bowl avoid at all costs terrible food

Came last night as we were visiting York so we decided to have our anniversary meal here , absolutely fantastic amazing friendly staff made us feel so welcome and kept checking to make sure everything was ok ,food was delicious couldn't fault it at all thank you so much again 😀

Food was tasty enough but not much value for money. The mains are like kids portions and very expensive for their size. The food service was very slow considering that it wasn't actually that busy, but the waiting staff were all very friendly and polite. Steaks are around £24-£28 (plus extras for sides and sauces), £16.50 for a (small) pasta dish seemed expensive. There are many nicer places in York which offer better value.

First class meal and at a very sensible cost. Garlic bread and olives were excellent, but be careful not to over order as the starter is delicious and filling.

Visited for a first time, no booking table but decided to check our luck. Time 14:30. Two adults and a little girl. Restaurant empty. Manager (?) Harley said he couldn’t give us a table in the restaurant room as the tables were ready for dinner but we could sit in the bar area. We said ok. He pointed at an empty table in the corner ( no cutlery ready ) with one chair, in the corner by the some store cupboard and spare chairs ! All the tables around were settled nicely I asked again, „Is that table you are offering us?” he said „Yes!”. I was actually shocked by his arrogance. K KO I never feel more unwelcome !! He didn't even try to stop us from leaving!!! Never again!!

Lovely place for a light lunch for us (couple with grandchild). Friendly atmosphere helped by the two staff who served us; Charlie and Prayia. Food was great and I would recommend if you're visiting York.

Arrived Monday evening,staying 3 nights at the doubletree. Agreed for convenience that our group ate in the hotel. We waited 10 minutes to be seated and it was a further wait 10-15 mins to be asked if we wanted to order . It was only at ordering we were told at least 6 items weren’t available. At this point it was too late to find another place to eat so we chose what was available. All 4 dishes were poor quality; The chips were cold , the bun on the burger was stale and the curry was served with an apology “ oh sorry we’ve actually run out of rice “ Service was not good I think avoidance was their best policy so we couldn’t actually complain, we weren’t asked if the food was ok , no table service to see if any drinks were needed . It was only at the end when paying the bill we asked if he was happy to hear feedback, to be fair the gentleman hadn’t seated us or served us but he knew what was coming. Management shouldn’t be blind to supply and service issues it’s not fair on the frontline staff to apologise. I’m astounded that a restaurant at 7pm has run out of so many main dishes and even basics like rice . The waiter shrugged knowing that we had every right to complain and offered us drinks.,there was not much more he could do. What really surprised me is the hotel put on a launch event , I’m sure everything was in order and available for their internal VIPs

I had a Haunch of Venison in a red wine jus which was excellent - very tasty indeed. I also ordered some broccoli as a side dish. Once I started to eat it I began to remember that the broccoli was supposed to come with flaked almonds but there were no almonds. After a while I began to think that the venison should have had something with it as well. Looking at the menu online, I saw it should have been served with waffled fries and blackberry. It was not. No-one came to ask if everything was ok. When I had finished the meal the waitress asked if I had enjoyed the food. After telling her it was delicious I pointed out that much of the meal was missing. She said that she had only known about this when she brought the food out of the kitchen. It struck me that perhaps that might have been the time to "fess up" rather than hope I didn't notice. She came back with a bill that gave me a 25% discount. As a good 25% of the plate was missing I thought this was the least that was appropriate. As she had brought me the bill rather than offer me a desert (I was indeed intending to have one) or a coffee, I assumed they were no longer interested in my custom, paid the bill and left. Not impressed with the service, impressed with the chef!

Very poor portion size for the price. Ordered venison steak as a treat. 28 pound. One relatively small piece of meat with a touch of sauce and a couple of berries. Supposed to come with waffle fries. Which they forgot to bring . When I challenged they bought out essentially a tiny bowl of crisps. Not good to spend 70 odd quid on a meal for 2 and leave hungry after 2 courses. Very mediocre and underseasoned aswell. Straight to the chippy for me. Chips curry and peas please mate. 4 quid and much more satisfying. Wouldn’t bother. For a place called the Yorkshire bar and grill, you expect good honest hearty Yorkshire generosity for that price, alas not

I recently hosted my sisters baby shower with exclusive hire of the doubletree’s glass orangery looking over their courtyard. Having not been before, me and my family were mega impressed with this space and already we are planning future family events we could host in this amazing function space. Lauren was amazing at making personal touches for us, taking on the task of making baby boy blue mocktails on arrival and even designing a welcome sign and mocktail sign which was so thoughtful as something the hotel doesn’t normally do. We all had afternoon tea and the value for money of this is second to none. Really great space, great food and great company - we will definitely be back!

We had a really enjoyable meal in the Yorkshire Bar and Grill restaurant. The service was excellent and the new restaurant menu had some lovely choices of homemade starters, main courses and desserts. Would highly recommend the prawn risotto start and the fish pie and sticky toffee pudding. Great selection of wines we had a bottle of the red Malbec. Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely evening here. They have just launched their new dinner menu, and it is fantastic. It is reasonably priced (for York), and the service is spot on. I had the Fish Pie, which I loved, and my wife went for the Cod loin. I'm a sucker for Parmesan Truffle fries, so we had to have some. Desserts are equally good. The crumble could have fed a small village! Will definitely be back

The food here was OK, but nothing more. The online menu implies there’s good vegetarian choice, but the ravioli was not on the menu we were given on arrival, unfortunately. That left two hot dishes, and one of us ordered the Panang curry, while the other three in our party ordered the Doubletree “beyond meat” veggie burger. The burger was all right, but unremarkable – I’ve had better ones in a pub – and a small side salad or some other accessory would have livened it up a bit. The Panang curry was extremely spicy, more like a strong Indian curry, and the sauce was very thin. When I’ve ordered a Panang curry elsewhere, the sauce is thick and sweet, and not anything like as hot. So we were a bit disappointed. However, the atmosphere in the Yorkshire Bar and Grill is pleasant and quiet, the service was prompt and efficient, and since we were staying at the Doubletree it was very convenient.

Came here for my Father in Laws birthday, we were staying at the Hilton and after a day of exploring York decided to eat here. Where to start, they had run out of half the items on the menu but what was left looked good so we decided to stay. After telling us they had two pies left I order this only to be told 20 minutes later they actually didn’t have any pies and would I like something else? Then the drinks finally arrived after about 25 minutes and the Guiness he had ordered had not been put on the surger and looked and tasted awful, they did replace this after I went to the bar to complain. Two of our four meals came out first and when the other 2 came out 10 minutes later my husbands fish was so soggy and greasy it was inedible and he had to order something else as well. We asked for sauces and vinegar for the chips that never came and the staff’s attitude started to become more and more blunt the more we complained even though we were very polite about everything we were saying, it came across as they were annoyed at us at complaining! It was also a very cold and uninviting atmosphere . Overall a terrible experience that ruined the the evening, would no recommend and definitely won’t be back!

After being told we couldn’t book for 7pm as there was a large party in we expected a busy restaurant but it wasn’t, The service is very questionable. No check backs No would you like sauces No cutlery for dessert until the ice cream was melted. Waiter was unaware which burger was which. No prompt for more drinks had to ask every time. Why are chips served in a flower pot Bring back normal plates. The food was pretty good but for the price you expect better. Not a large menu but if two types of burgers confuse the staff maybe a good thing.

We ordered a starter and a main. The prices made me believe that it would we would have a great meal with plenty of food. Little did I know we would pay so much for so little. We ordered mussels, which 1/3rd of them were empty -nothing to spot in the broth… not sure where the mussels have gone? (brace yourselves… they were served in a relatively small deep plate). We got a mussels pot to get rid of the shells and that one was half empty/full (depending how positive you are) once we were finished. On a positive note: food arrived quickly, was alright and warm. Staff was fairly friendly. But.. would never return there…definitely overpriced.

The desserts are delicious and the Kopparberg ciders are the best, the salads are very delicious and the staff is very friendly.

First of all the good things. The hotel attached to the restaurant is a lovely reasonably priced place to stay in a fantastic city. The breakfast served from the same kitchen we had this morning was completely serviceable and we were content with the service. The drinks are priced exceedingly well and was a pleasant surprise. I dislike marring the success of the hotel with that of the dining Experience we just had this evening. In terms of pricing, for what was theoretically on offer it seemed fairly reasonable, a steak costing £28 from a nice restaurant isn’t a surprising situation when you live in a place like Cheltenham. I will also add I have worked and ran bars and restaurants for close to 10 years. However paying £28 for a steak that was raw, out of a sense of duty to the industry I have dedicated a significant portion of my life to stings a bit. The burger I had was underwhelming but at £18 it’s nothing to kick off about. Our drinks order was forgotten about and so arrived only after some gentle prompting after we had eaten our starters. The service was excruciatingly slow, and the table turn over rate was immensely slow. There were no check backs to see how we were getting on with the food (or to see if our drinks had arrived) and the check back is an integral part of good service. I very rarely write negative reviews as I understand better than anyone that often there are mitigating circumstances that explain bad service e.g. being short staffed ect. However there were approximately 5 tables in the restaurant mostly two tops with one 6 top and on estimate about 4 servers and 1 bartender working. Averaging about 1 server for a section of 2 tables. I have seen servers deal with sections of upwards of 16 tables and while flustered still give a great service. My girlfriend is now concerned about the steak she has partially ate and as someone who suffers anxiety about vomiting (I can’t remember the name of the condition) it has put a dampener on what has otherwise been a great trip, to a beautiful city, staying in a lovely hotel.

My son treated my friend and I to an afternoon tea at the Yorkshire Bar & Grill but we were so disappointed with it. Pots of tea with only 1 tea bag, very ordinary sandwiches and cakes which were obviously bought rather than homemade. Scones were served without butter or jam and with cream so runny that my friend’s spilt on the floor. This was replaced with some synthetic cream, definitely not clotted, still no butter. The young man who served us was very polite and apologetic but what should have been an enjoyable time was ruined by very lacklustre products.

Went about 1pm on a Friday. Regretted it as soon as we were pointed to a bare table as the traditional restaurant didn’t open until dinner service. Lovely looking hotel, beautifully decorated venue - fish and chips pricy but good quality. The Caesar Salad was £14 for about 6 baby gem leaves, the dressing and croutons. Yeah you read that right £14 for leaves and sauce 😂 get this though… I added salmon for £5 upgrade. £19 for the whole salad main. It was tasty, you just feel violated after the pricing here. I don’t blame them, the fact we were only ones eating said it all… probably worth going after 5pm.

I had booked this restaurant to have a taste of Yorkshire However several of the dishes were not available due to the fact they had been very busy over the bank holiday weekend. This was naturally disappointing, but what we did eat was delicious and the staff were very apologetic The bill was reduced I would go again and recommend anyone to give it a try

Food was lovely and served in a timely fashion, our waitress was the best thing about the experience - Francesca was polite, friendly and attentive! She was very accommodating and offered great recommendations. She asked if it was anyone’s birthday and turned up at the end of the meal with a plate of desserts! Wasn’t sure what to expect as it just happened to be the closest restaurant to where we were staying but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Not much of an atmosphere but as it was raining very hard outside we didn’t mind. The prices were reasonable and the staff professional.

Awful service. Took over an hour to get our food, they forgot to put my friends food through so she had to wait an extra 15 mins. Only one veggie option available on menu and awful attitude from staff. Only table in the place and still took over 40mins for them to bring us a bottle of prosecco. Ordered a table online and when we got there they had no idea we were coming. Just shocking from start to finish, do not go here.

We had two lovely evening meals here as it is part of the Hilton Hotel, and the food & service was superb! Definitely recommend this place!

Having had high hopes for this place, I must admit that I am pretty disappointed. The restaurant was absolutely dead just after 8pm, with only one other table sat eating. This only made the loud chatter from the waiting staff more obvious as there was no other background noise or conversation from other diners. Throughout our meal, staff often stood around near the kitchen having loud conversations, and at one point one of the waitresses was rolling on the floor... Even when this was questioned by another member of staff, they all just continued to laugh and joke loudly. Not particularly professional. The food itself was cooked well and was tasty, but I went for the rump steak and I'm at a loss as to how they can justify charging £25 for a piece of meat that was very thin, and a tiny portion of mashed potato? Even a tiny portion of sauce was charged at £2.50 extra on top! Given that there were at least 6 staff members and waiting staff walking around and talking to each other throughout our meal, not once did anyone come over to ask if everything was ok with our food. Maybe I'm just being a bit picky having come from a witnessing background myself, but I was always told that one of the number one rules of good customer service was to actually check on your customers! It was pretty obvious that they wanted us out as soon as we'd paid for our meal, and it made us feel a bit uncomfortable (I was even stared at whilst finishing off my drink!) It was not the worst experience ever but it also wasn't good. We won't be returning in a hurry!

We had seen this on groupon and thought it was great value for money (£15 for two cocktails and nibbles). You have to book a time on line but as you are in the bar area, there is no one to tell you where to go so we had to wait at the bar for a bit whilst the staff were serving other customers.

I came for a breakfast meeting and ended up getting a bit distracted by really enjoying the food! I’ve had a few “full English” in my time, but this was certainly one of my favourites. I also want to mention the young lady that served in our area, Maya, who was friendly and with a sunny disposition. She was very helpful and brought me a lovely hot chocolate - top marks! :)

Hungry but tired we decided just to drop in for a bite to eat around the corner from the flat. I had rump steak with all the trimmings. Beautifully cooked and very tasty. Other half had fish & chips which were well received too. All washed down with a decent pint. Recommended.

This is it not the first time we have eaten at this restaurant. Our previous times were absolutely great, this time the they seemed disorganised. We had a 7:00 reservation, in which we were sitted shortly after that and submitted our food orders about 20 minutes later. We did not receive our food until after 8:00. The wait staff never came back to our table until we received our food. I personally went to the bar to get my husband another beer. We figured they never put in our order because they were too busy sucking up to two food critics, who were actually sitted after us. The food critics got their starters, main courses and desserts before we received our meal. My husband said he had no complaints about his food, because it is what he ordered. Mine was warm, the fish was over cooked, the potato tart had no flavour, the cabbage with bacon was semi sautéed and crunchy. The best part of my meal was the fried kale. We have opted to eat at other restaurants during our stay in York.

We visited for lunch whilst out on the Ice Sculpture Trail. We sat in the courtyard cafe, which was nice and airy, lovely seating and beautifully decorated. It did seem as though the staff were new as things seemed disorganised but they were very polite and friendly. My husband ordered the omelette and salad which was very nice but my bacon sandwich was very disappointing, greasy bacon in two slices of white bread.

Stopped the Double Tree over night and went in to York but because there was an event on there was no where to eat for lunch all packed, so we ended up back at the Yorkshire bar and grill which is attached to the hotel.

Enjoyed our meal from start to finish. Both my wife and myself enjoyed our visit and our waiter Julian could not of been more helpful, we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Ate here with 5 others tonight for my birthday. My wife ordered the £40 ‘whole’ lobster which was actually a bit of lobster meat stuffed back into the smallest lobster shell you’ve ever seen, this ‘whole’ lobster didn’t even have any claws on it! Myself and a friend ordered the chateaubriand which was actually just a sliced up filet steak for 3 times the price. I complained to the duty manager and he patronisingly explained to me the this was a chateaubriand and it was a ‘very expensive cut of meat’. The guy actually thought I’d never ordered a chateaubriand before! On top of this, the dish came with 2 portions of fries which arrived at least 10 minutes after the the meat! As an apology, the manager gave us £9 off the £180 bill and gave us a £6 bottle of sparkling wine! Thanks! Do not eat here. You would get better food and better service at Wetherspoon!
