The Wyvill Arms in Richmondshire

On arrival, we were greeted in a very friendly and can-do entertaining manner by Ned. The hotel is very well appointed and in lovely grounds. Our very smart and well-appointed room had its own sitting area outside the French windows. The walk-in shower was a treat, and the whole bathroom was warm and well set out, with lots of shelf space.. All the staff are friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble, Ned was able to provide our morning yoghurt, which was extra to the breakfast fare. All the food we enjoyed through our 4 nights stay was excellent, a lot of thought about flavours and the visual presentation goes into them. They are well cooked, well presented and there was a good range of vegetarian and fish dishes. We would highly recommend a stay at Wyvill Arms

Stayed a couple of nights en route to Scotland and were well looked after by the well trained staff. a very good dinner on both nights and a comfortable room. Would certainly stay again. The best part were to staff.

My two friends and I recently returned from a 3 night stay at the Wyvill Arms and had a truly wonderful experience. We met all of the team and, without exception, they were inviting, warm and helpful, without being gushing. Once they got to know us a little they were also great fun, even putting our table bookings in as 'the girls' without the formality of a name or room number! The food was 'out of this world' but the price was not!! The menu was creative without being pompous. The whole establishment was immaculate and each room had a character of its own. The Wyvill was the perfect location for our walking trip in beautiful Wensleydale, but would also be a great base for cycling over to Swaledale. We are definitely going back, maybe with reinforcements 😄

Stayed for two nights in August and highly recommend it. Friendly and helpful staff, large and comfortable room with a patio outside. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room plus an iron and ironing board which is a useful addition when travelling. Good choice for breakfast with unlimited coffee and tasty dinners with locally sourced meat and vegetables and a good wine list. And of course it’s in the middle of beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

We stayed overnight at this unprepossessing property and enjoyed a lovely spacious, warm, clean and comfortable bedroom (room 7) with some wonderful furnishings and a large bathroom with an amazing shower. Our room had a private seating area outside. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was of a very good quality and it was excellently prepared by a chef who clearly enjoys cooking. Portions were generous and the prices very reasonable. Staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming and couldn't have been more attentive or helpful. Easy to get to from the A1.....we stopped off en route from Scotland to London and there is lovely countryside round about.

Amazing food and top tier service. We came for a joint birthday celebration for the first time. Greeted by the lovely Ned and shown to our table which was laid out with a lovely birthday banner, nice touch. Ned was nothing short of impeccable at his job and everything front of house. What a lovely, warm and efficient guy. All of the food was perfection, from the starters to the steaks being some of the best we have ever eaten. We have found a new favourite and will be returning for more special occasions. Great experience from start to finish!

We visited here for 1 night and had a great stay , the rooms were really nice and spacious and were spotlessly clean , we had a large Walk in shower and a little outside bit with a table and chairs , the best thing about here though is the food and service , both outstanding , the chef can really cook and we really enjoyed our meal and breakfast , we were treated fantastically well by everyone , the staff are really friendly and helpful , parts of the pub looked a little tired in places but I would definitely stay here again

We had an ovenight stay at this lovely family run hotel and restaurant/bar. The staff were very friendly . The room was clean, well appointed and comfortable with a private courtyard garden. The food was excellent for both evening meal and breakfast. The location is good too as it is easy to find, has lots of parking and is only about 10-15 mins from A1 with easy access to the Dales.

Lovely pub/restaurant and very nice staff. Welcoming, friendly and the food was nice. I would say though rather pricey and also I have never ordered a meal anywhere that comes without any veg? The pie came with no veg and also the chicken breast so it was just potatoes which we was surprised at and it wasn't very filling.

This place is lovely, and so are the whole team that work here, everyone could not do enough for us, we stayed overnight in room 4 gorgeous room with beautiful views, we was with other couples and there rooms was also gorgeous could not fault, we had a evening meal wow did not disappoint , thank you for making our time special, we will be back

We have just returned from our over night stay here, and all we can say is Wow what a great find. Staff so friendly and helpfully nothing was too much trouble definitely went above and beyond to please our group of 6. The rooms are clean airy and very well presented. As for the food absolutely 5 stars from us we all had something different and each one of us loved it served with a smile and pipping hot couldn't ask for more . Thank you all for making our stay so enjoyable we will definitely be back .

This is our second time staying at the Wyvill Arms and the first ever time we've gone back to the same place. We absolutely love everything about The Wyvill. The location is great, the rooms are beautiful and beds are more comfortable than our own! Food is just gorgeous and the staff are so kind and attentive. Special thanks to Ned who is just wonderful! I can't recommend this place highly enough. Its a slice of heaven.

Three of our group went for the veggie option. I don't know where to start. It was penned as Tagine but all we could detect was courgette, pepper, onions, tomato and a helluva lot of paprika. Two of us couldn't eat it. No cous cous or chickpeas or apricots as you'd expect, no depth of flavour, it was more like a poor ratatouille. I contacted the pub to let them know how bad it had been and gave them a week to reply but sadly no word so I've gone public. I wouldn't go back.

Stayed overnight on our way up to Scotland. Front of house staff exceptional, attentive and genuinely caring. Room comfortable and clean. Dinner included perfectly cooked fish and all really tasty. Well organised which meant we had a relaxing first night of our holiday. Thanks to Nigel and his amazing team.

A great visit to the Wyvill Arms. Portions are absolutely huge so I really struggled with my main after eating most of my starter! Staff and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

What a delicious Sunday lunch with beautiful produce. I started with the French onion soup…..this was divine & mouth watering with hot melted cheese on top. My husband had goats cheese salad which was beautifully presented & truly delicious. We chose beef & pork for our main course. The meat was succulent & cooked to perfection. Each came with a large homemade Yorkshire pudding, traditional roast potatoes & homemade gravy. The pork also came with apple sauce, stuffing & crackling. Separately there were side dishes of broccoli, carrots, cabbage along with new potatoes. All were fresh & very tasty indeed. We were each served with a little jug of extra gravy. Everything was hot & delicious & there was plenty of it. The staff were super polite, friendly, very professional & couldn’t do enough for us. The drinks selection was very good to compliment the meal. Excellent value for money….very well done. We could not fault our visit & will definitely return & recommend to our friends. Thank you for a lovely time.

Thank you Nigel, Ned and the team for making us feel so welcome. This was our second stay over and third visit to eat. We travelled up from Wakefield for an over night stay to celebrate my partners birthday and to have the best steak ever, again!! The food is always amazing at The Wyvill Arms. Our breakfasts were top notch this morning. The hospitality is always brilliant, thank you Ned and our room was pure luxury, thank you for letting us choose our room, Nigel.

Booked for Sunday lunch on the spur of the moment. Staff were brilliant all really friendly and accommodating. The lunch was perfect-individual gravy for each meat, al-dente vegetables and fresh Yorkshire puddings. Could not fault and would certainly come again. Top class service and compliments to the chef.

Needed to stay somewhere near Leyburn at the last minute (long story!) and came across the Wyvill Arms, couldn't be happier! Very comfortable room with a shower I would have loved to be able to take home with me (!). The staff were absolutely lovely, really friendly and welcoming despite our somewhat bedraggled state, they couldn't have been more helpful. We had a perfectly cooked, great quality breakfast the following morning and would have no hesitation going back, lovely spot!

We had dinner here, and the pub/restaurant itself was great, beautiful decor. It was rather quiet and we felt a bit isolated in the restaurant (Friday night) with only a few others in there so felt a bit awkward at times, especially with no background music, and seemed as though everyone could hear your conversation it was that quiet… I think they need more kitchen staff as it stated on the menu that the service may be slow due to small kitchen, perhaps this is way it was so quiet as they could only mange a set amount of bookings? It’s a shame as the couple infront of us were offered to either be sat in the booth area or the restaurant, they chose the restaurant and it seemed we had no choice as they wanted myself and my partner to be in the same room as the couple infront (which felt unfair as the booth area was more busy and I would have preferred it there!!) but they sat us two tables next to each other with a big board with special menu on it. Felt as though we were on an expedition and the couple were with us!! So the service I’d say was a shame due to this. However the food was amazing, we both got the lamb, it was divine.

Haven't been in the Wyvill for years but it was a special occasion so we decided to give the restaurant a try and glad we did. We had sirloin steak, chicken supreme, lamb shank and hake followed by puds. All were excellent. Staff were all friendly and a special mention to Ned who took care of us. Would definitely come back, maybe try their Sunday lunch.

Fabulous little hotel found by chance on an internet search. Staying for 1 night only but our room (room 5) is gorgeous, modern, light and spotlessly clean with a lovely little private patio. Our evening meal was amazing and the staff could not do enough for us, would highly recommend without hesitation.

What a great place to stay we had a wonderful room for the evening, had the most amazing food on Saturday night and an excellent breakfast on the Sunday morning, a great location to explore the eastern side of the Dales. Special thanks to the staff and in particular Ned, his customer service is second to none, front of house and customer service is up there with the best, would not hesitate coming back to stay and to eat the beautiful food again - 5 star *****

We called in for Sunday lunch whilst on a dog walk, staying nearby. The roast dinner lunches were gorgeous, large portions with plenty of veg and superb Yorkshire puddings! Great service and very dog friendly, we sat outside as the weather was lovely. Highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed at the Wyvil Arms for two nights on the 25th and 26th July, 2023. We found it on the internet and were drawn by the food menus. On arrival we were greeted by a receptionist, told that we had been upgraded and shown our room. It was room 5 which was delightful with a super shower and with doors opening on to a small private terrace. On arriving for dinner we met Jack who was extremely polite and most helpful. We were taken to our table which was in the main dining room, there was a large party of about 30 people from a nearby Army Camp who were obviously enjoying their night out. We were asked if we would like to move in to the bar for quieter time! We declined to move until after the first course when we said that we would like to. The two waitresses were were exceptional in that they prepared another table and moved our cutlery, drinks etc on to the new table with a minimum of fuss and exceedingly good grace, we were pleased to have a quieter rest of our meal. The meal was exceptional, all three courses were presented very well and were absolutely delicious. Our second evening there was a much quieter event and we stayed in the main dining room, we were served by Ned who was equally charming as the staff we had encountered previously. Breakfasts, chosen the night before were absolutely stunning and a real set up for the day ahead, beautifully cooked and served, again by Ned. The two nights were just superb and we are sure that should we be in the area again we will most definitely book with The Wyvill Arms. One small point, accommodation perfect, food magnificent, staff brilliant, ambience just perfect, however we did feel that the wine list was ambitiously priced.

Driven past here many times and so pleased we stopped for a meal. Great welcome and service. Chose the hake and it didn’t disappoint. Tasty and perfectly cooked. Highly recommended.

What an amazing Sunday lunch ! I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s a beautiful country pub/ resturant and B&B on the edge of a picturesque village and close to the Constable Burton Hall and Gardens. From what we could see of the garden (it was raining heavy) it looked really pretty. Welcoming attentive and fun staff. Ned brought our menus and had a chat with us , what a friendly fun and efficient guy he is. My husband had The Lamb roast and I asked for the well done Beef roast (half portion). It was as exactly as I like it. Oh my goodness you could drink the gravy it was sooo nice ! All of it was hot and tasty, Yorkshire pudding to die for. A lovely choice of desserts, I had the trio of crème brûlée a good choice it was delicious, my husband had sticky toffee pudding, equally as good. So Thankyou Chef ! We have been here before for a weekday lunch and I think it was pre covid so we forgot about, we will definitely be back sooner than that asap. To sum up: Lovely atmosphere Attentive and friendly staff Amazing food Beautiful location This is what a Sunday Lunch is all about. !!

To the staff to the room, this was one hundred percent a five star place to stay. The gentleman at breakfast was possibly one of the best servers I’ve ever come across, the dinner staff at night were so attentive. The room was literally incredible, the bed was so comfy and the shower room was something else! Will 100 percent be back

As both myself and my wife are both professional Chefs and own a Thai restaurant in neighbouring Richmond, we were recommended the Wyvill by a friend. Well, I have to say it was possibly the BEST Sunday lunch I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection. My wife and son had the fish and chips and said it was superb. The pub itself is stunningly decorated and set in beautiful gardens. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and James even showed me one of the immaculate and beautiful rooms. Fish was amazing and chips were delicious. Service isn’t take long at all and the building itself was very relaxing and fine.

Really lovely food .Good sized portions of sea bass.My husband loved the venison washed down with Gamekeepers Ale. Staff were smiley and welcoming.We were given upgraded room which was top notch and made it extra special.Thankyou

9 of us had a meal of Fish & Chips followed by some exceptional sweets. Food, service,staff were excellent. A really enjoyable night.Would highly recommend.
