The Wyvern in Gosport

We went for a roast dinner today and it was superb! Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked! This is not our first visit and we always enjoy the roast but we thought today it was exceptional! Service was also prompt and very friendly, as always! Will be back soon

Sunday lunch...best avoided. 45 minute wait despite not being busy. Cremated chewy meat (beef), leathery "roast potatoes", and bistro instant gravy. Not expensive, but not worth the money. Only ate it as had waited so long and was hungry

Lovely pub inside and out. Staff are very welcoming and offer great service. I would like to see cabernet sauvignon wine as an option though...xxx

Very disappointed ordered a meal didn't get what I asked for a substitute without even asking if that was OK. Couldn't eat most of it for health reasons. Was asked if I wanted it changed but my husbands meal was getting cold so just went with it. It was very badly cooked as well. Second time I have experienced a poor meal. No one came to ask if it was OK so guess they already knew.

We had never been here before and fancied a change. When I phoned to book, I was asked to come earlier as it was the quiz night. When we arrived, we were informed that it was a reduced menu, but luckily, the dishes we wanted were still available. I had the burger, which was tasty, nice size portions and hot. As we had to come in early it was fairly quiet so not a lot of atmosphere

Such a lovely place for dinner and drinks! We're often here at least 3 times a month, highly recommend. New chef makes INCREDIBLE food - halloumi fries are a must!

Well impressed with the food, don't generally have to wait but yesterday due to D-day 80 events at the airport the food waiting time was mad!! Most people were happy to wait and understood the problems staff were having to keep up, but also a big thumbs down to the 2 delightful gentleman who were extremely rude and unkind to poor Abi who was doing very well under extreme circumstances, if you're not prepared to wait then cook your lunch at home next time maybe??

There was a big event going on at Daedulus Airfield to mark "D-Day 80" where we had decided to miss the long queues for food and drinks at the airfield concessions and visit the Wyvern for lunch. It is the nearest Public House to the airfield and we could watch the flying displays from the beer garden. The pub was packed, as we expected and we were prepared to wait for food. However, the pub was totally unprepared for the number of customers and only had two staff under 20 working the bar and taking orders. We ordered drinks and food and took a table in the garden. I went to order a second round of drinks after 40 minutes or so. This took a further 35 minutes, still two bar staff and long queues. Our third round of drinks took 30 minutes to get and no food yet. The landlady finally put in appearance and was heard to say "I shouldn't be here after surgery and I'm going out tonight, I'll be unwell. I didn't expect so many customers". With the event on the airfield having been advertised for over a year? After waiting an unacceptable 2 hours we were told our meals hadn't even been started. We took a refund and left. The service was abysmal, the excuses were unsympathetic and the landlady was conspicuous by her absence. We knew they were busy, but weren't informed of problems/delays in service. A grand day out ruined by poor management and lack of planning.

I don't really enjoy posting poor reviews, I would prefer to celebrate great service, quality etc. However the Wyvern was truly awful. From our party of 7 arriving at a near empty pub to leaving £153 later I have nothing good to say. Drinks took 20 minutes to order, Food took 1hr 20 mins to arrive and was of pretty poor quality, the roasts looks like they had been plated up and under a hot plate for 3 days, the veggie options no better. Nothing to recommend here, best avoided. ☹️

Had some BBQ chicken wings and a beer here and they were the best ever...... Seriously delicious and a good point of Ale (or three) served by happy smiling staff. Good prices too.

Website stated serving food today till 2100 but the kitchen was closed at 2000. Very disappointing after a long drive specifically to eat here based on website information.

Didn't try the food, just a quiet pint on the deck out back. Really nice old pub in quiet spot.

We booked a table for 14 people for a family 90th Birthday, the allocated area was perfect, we were willingly allowed to decorate the area with banners, balloons etc. Staff were all exceptionally friendly, polite and helpful and we couldn't have asked for nicer staff or any better service. The food was good, nicely presented and value for money. Lianne was great, really helpful, approachable, attentive and I would definitely recommend The Wyvern for group bookings. We had the added bonus of a live group playing from 9pm, perfect end to a lovely evening meal. Thank you to all the staff - Dunlop Family xx

We had bit of a wait for food as there was a larger party of customers. However, apologies were given and accepted and the food was excellent.

Booked 11 of us for Easter Sunday roast excellent food, and service nothing too much trouble certainly would recomend. Thankyou to Lianne

Limited food available, food not good only 2 bar staff thought there would be more as a band was on. Wrong venue to have a birthday, when asked to bring cake out they bought it In the box Wouldn't recommend

Weds night steak night at the wyvern , the steak was amazing cooked just how we like it . Highly recommend 2× rump for £20 or 2x ribeye for £25 , staff really attentive. Will definitely be going back .

Firstly, given 3 stars for the food cos i didn't eat there, but judging by the overloaded plates of sunday dinner, it'll not be long before i return. The service is given a 3, cos the "young lad" seemed to be doing all the serving, whilst his females colleagues did everything but serve. The atmosphere was given a two because the duo was playing Jazz, but they were good, just a terrible genre of music

Came for the steak night, it was absolutely beautiful, steak was to die for, mushroom sauce was amazing, the whole meal was beautiful, service was also 5 star, music was good, definitely recommend!

Went here on a steak night and for me the steak was cooked beautifully as was the whole meal it was delicious the staff are very friendly and professional and made u feel welcome the only thing and iam nitpicking here was the vine tomatoes wasn't to my taste but did eat them overall very good and will be going back

Excellent food and service the only thing and iam nitpicking here but wasn't to my taste but did eat them was the vine tomatoes and not a choice for regular tomatoes but apart from that the food was absolutely beautiful my steak was cooked to perfection as was the rest of the meal it would of been a 5 if had more options on tomatoes but again my own personal preference I will be returning again for another meal as I couldn't find fault with anything else

Walked in without a reservation on the off chance for a table of 4. Warmly greeted and was told we could be squeezed in - which was fantastic. The food was specularly amazing. Having the roast beef I can safely say you will NOT be hungry afterwards. Fantastic meal and lovely warm helpful staff always willing to make you experience a happy one. Keep up the good work and I will be coming back (especially for the cauliflower cheese - OMG that was amazing!!!)

Extremely rude woman behind the bar today who was trying to force me and friends to drink alcohol. We went to watch the football and play some pool and all four of us had bought a drink. She proceeded to tell us to either buy another one or leave. At one point she asked “have you not got a job?” Because I didn’t want to buy an alcoholic drink as I don’t drink alcohol, insisting that I was poor. She then proceeded to complain about us to other customers whilst calling my group “youths” for no reason despite us being polite. 9/10 times we have been there on a Saturday night we have been the only people in there. So we have funded them plenty of times in the past. Extremely rude overall; although it was just the owner.

Went with our two small children, for a Sunday roast. The food was amazing and the staff were so kind and friendly. We had the best cauli cheese. The open fire was dreamy. We left before dessert as we had another customer giving us horrid looks across the room as our 1 year old was singing loudly. This was unpleasant and the lady was equally unpleasant. Not the pubs fault though

Super afternoon of a few drinks and a sharing meal of starters. Fabulous, helpful staff and amazing food. We will definitely be back. 100% recommend the squid, king prawns, onion rings cheesy garlic bread and sweet potato fries.

Lovely, warm and welcoming pub with a family friendly atmosphere. On my visit there was a pool table, darts and sky sports on show which allowed for some entertainment over a few beers. Food and drink were very good and well priced. Great for a quick beer after work where the locals are friendly or family friendly

Quiz night is always entertaining

Nice looking pub/Resturant.Quiet at time of visit only to be expected inbetween Xmas and new year,Party of 6 including two children.Two of us requested ribs that were not available.We then selected our food and waited for our starters that arrived promptly and very good quality. The main Courses took a long time to arrive and again the quality was good and well presented. This was our first visit as we have just moved to the area and will visit again but feel that you need to improve getting food from the kitchen to the tables otherwise a first class experience.

Food was terrible.Peepercorn sauce enough to feed the planet over powered dinner steak ok. Fish chips.Fish under cooked battered was soggy.

Sunday roast was outstanding. Although would prefer a gammon steak, but that said it was lovely all the same. Well done

I was looking forward to this evening as I had been told the food was good. Unfortunately having arrived at 6pm hit sit down at 6.30 I was still waiting for my main course at 8.30. It was served cold and so I sent it back with a very disgruntled waitress. She came back with another plate which I refused as most people of our group were finished the dessert. I was told I would not have to pay for my main course by our group organiser. But unfortunately have been informed that the group were charged for my meal. I rang and spoke to the manager who was rude to me saying she personally played my food and it was of best quality and I was not told I didn’t have to pay. A rude and arrogant landlady I will definitely not visit this establishment ever again. I should have read the reviews on here beforehand.

Popped in for drinks but got hungry so ordered some food (only had some light bites) food was amazing, everything made fresh to order which made the wait worth it (it wasn't even a long wait, had popped out for a quick cigarette and my food was ready when I got back)! Staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful! 5* definitely returning, quick shout-out to the lovely lovely Matt behind the bar who was just amazing! He makes the best cocktails!

We're might have been unlucky, but we didn't have a good experience. The food took an hour to arrive. When it did arrive, it was pretty poor. The chicken burger was dry, probably because it had been waiting whilst the other food was prepared. The pies were tasteless. On the positive side, the staff were nice.

Well maybe we should not have come here for a family meal on a Saturday night with a 6 year old but we did.....it was awful. We arrived slightly earlier than the time we booked for and were told to pick a table. We ordered as soon as we could as it was close to the 6 year olds dinner time. Just 4 of us in total. It took over an hour for the meals to arrive and the 6 year olds was last with the wrong items, they took them away and returned around 5 mins later with correct meal. I was lucky I chose a burger but the 6 year olds chicken dippers were awful, I thought she was being picky so tried one - it was tough and chewy - husband reckoned that it had been sitting around ready for a long time being kept warm. Another family member had a chicken burger with the same problem. The place wasn't even full as we had booked an early dinner, we could not believe it as this was our 3 visit - the other 2 being perfect. 3 burgers and 1 childs meal - 8 drinks but only 3 alcohol and 1 was a glass of water and we paid £80! Also the language around a 6 year old made me wince. I never want to be in this place again. We thought we had found a local gem after our first 2 visits but sadly this was so bad. We always leave a tip when eating out but not this time, we will probably never return.

Good location and atmosphere but the food is lacking, worth visiting for a drink and some snacks. The pub is pleasant in the summer with the garden and cosy in the winter.

This place is great. We had sumptuous dinner and a few drinks. Staff are friendly and always helpful.. we will definitely come back here soon. Highly recommended

Really poor food, and service not much better.

Avoid the Fish and Chips unless you are on a diet. The fish was small and staff said that was all that they had. The fish was the size I would expect on a young child's meal. Although the staff were friendly there was no attempt to provide a remedy or discount.

I attended a funeral wake at the Wyvern. The staff were very polite and responsive and had everything ready when everyone arrived. There was a vast selection of excellent small eats laid on. There was also tea and coffee available for those who didn’t want to drink alcohol. A very personal service was much appreciated by everyone. There is a large car park which would normally be ample if everyone parked between the lines (3 parked outside the lines causing loss of 3 spaces. One driver actually parked diagonally across two slots. Inconsiderate parking, not the Wyvern's fault.

Had roast dinner which was so bad we were unable to eat it! Roast potatoes rock hard but when managed to break into one was mushy on the inside. Carrots were burnt. They forgot stuffing and the peas. Had to ask for gravy as they forgot to put that on. Greens were stone cold and the rest of the meal was luke warm. When advised they were well sorry shall we take it away. Asked for a refund and they said only 25% for food that even the dog wouldn’t eat! My advice is do not go there to eat!

I'm a local person and I have visited the Wyvern many times. Unfortunately my family evening meal out was disappointing, the service was average, the atmosphere was poor and the language in the background with various youngsters was appalling. The food was acceptable but the rib's were full of fat and the slaw was an afterthought. This issue was reported but the staff member who then had a chat with the chef, the response was they are all good quality meats. I beg to differ on this occasion. Prior to attending the establishment I check the menu on the internet, price's and menu listing was different to that of the restaurant menu, he'll of a change. The bill was over £110 pounds and the family I was trying to impress felt very let down. Recommendations will not be forthcoming. Sorry but I've always been impressed with the place.

Lovely place, really polite attentive staff. The first meal I ordered was very poor, ribs which were a plate of fat. I sent it back, the chef said they were all the same which is why I questioned why they even cooked and served them, however the replacement meal was very good and the ataff dealt with the situation very apologetically and politely.

Back to this venue again and what a great night. We make the trip here every now and then!!! Trevor John Band a definite highlight. Great place, wish it was closer!!

Food was over cooked they did have a function on but that’s no excuse . I have complained twice but there was No response when I emailed or sent a message on Facebook . New chef too apparently! Won’t be going back .

An excellent menu and the choice will be very well cooked. Had a lunch with friends on a Wednesday and had the main and a sweet was very impressed with the quality. The service was also excellent by Lianne

Booked short notice during the week for 4 people, as usual the beer was first class. Starters consisted of buffalo wings, halumi fries and tempura squid. All was ok apart from squid which was tasteless and really tough. Mains consistedof 3 steaks and a burger. No problem with steaks but burger was very poor and pretty tasteless. Main problem was price- £140 in total. £22.00 per steak!!! Now I'm not tight but that is approaching miller and carter price without the quality, I am more than happy to pay for good quality but object to having my pants pulled down. Won't be back for a long time to eat as massively over priced.

Food was very fresh,quick and hot when bought to table. Outside area is lovely Our server(jack) was very attentive and polite. Will definitely be coming back. All in all a lovely experience.

Unless you enjoy cleaning chocolate angel delight from your toilet the next morning. I would suggest you don't drink in this pub.

We had a lovely Father's Day lunch yesterday at the Wyvern. The staff were excellent and were very accommodating with all our special requests. The chef cooked everything as we requested (Filet Steak and Roast Beef) . They came and asked on more than one occasion if everything was ok which was appreciated. Great local and will be returning soon - Thanks again

The pub is lovely and the staff are very friendly & helpful. We came for the quiz , but at least half the teams were blatantly using phones to cheat the entire way through. Which makes the whole thing pointless really...

Very attentive and accommodating staff and chef who brought to my vegan attention that it was a Halloumi, red pepper wrap, and not a hummus and red pepper wrap as I had read & ordered (no glasses on!) Made me a lovely vegan wrap with veggie sausages, red pepper and vegan mayo. New menu coming very soon, so I imagine this is where the stock came from. 🙂 It was SO lovely to be looked after, rather than the eye rolls that I have had at other places. More vegan food on the new menu, which is great, but well done and thank you for today!

I met a couple of friends here for lunch. I hadn't been to The Wyvern for a long time so thought we would give it a try. We were made to feel very welcome. I ordered a toasted sandwich which was lovely, along with a side salad. The two guys on the bar were very helpful and polite and couldn't do enough to help. Would definitely visit again with my family.

Great evening at The Wyvern last night for some incredible live music. First time in the venue and couldn’t fault it. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was great and drinks very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!
