Cold solid savaloy, asked for salt and vinegar, even confirmed it, still not given. Disappointing 😕

This is my local chippy and the food and service is usually brilliant. The staff that served me today were new to me. Although polite and friendly I was a bit non-plussed by how they resolved a pricing issue. I usually get the all day special but as I perused the menu board I could not immediately see it on the board, the young male behind the cash register asked me what I wanted to order and seeing “medium cod meal” I ordered this plus two battered sausages. The male asked me “would you like a sauce or a drink” which I politely declined. Apparently these are included in the meal price but I was not aware of this. Surely the correct question would have been “which sauce and drink would you like with that?” This would indicate it was included rather than posing the question as if to ask would I like to order other items. I left the chippy briefly to nip to the shop next door to get a few grocery items when I returned the male asked to clarify that I did not want a sauce or a drink with my meal. Which I declined again. It was then explained to me that they were included with the meal. I was cheerfully told by the older female dishing up my meal that it would be cheaper to just order a medium cod and chips if I did not want a sauce or drink. She then said “ just so you know for next time” I was not offered a refund on the meal so that I was just charged for a medium cod and chips which is essentially all that I received and I was told again “at least you will know for next time”. I then said In that case I will have drink which I was given but I still declined the sauce as I’m not a fan of curry sauce or mushy peas. So I have still not had the full benefit of the meal deal. I then asked if I could have a carrier bag but was told this was an extra 60p!!! So I have paid above the odds for my fish supper and a drink, not offered a refund at any time and they still wanted me to pay for a carrier bag. Clearly customer good will is not a thing anymore. It is a shame because the food is really good. The young lad could not even makes change from £15 for a charge of £13.90 as he had not rung it up on the till correctly so that it calculated the change for him. He got his phone out to do the sum but I was able to tell him it was £1.10. And to add insult to injury I asked twice for just salt on my fish & chips and when I got it home it was unsalted. All in all not the best experience I have had buying a take away. Disappointing as this is the first time I have had bad service here.

A Great Fish n Chip Shop For Walk in Customs (unlike others Where delivery drivers always come first) Staff amazing and helpful, BUT sadly as food prices are going up food quality is going down and under new management again!!! That's 4 in a year. What a shame.

Just had cod and chips and it was terrible… the chips were very dry and the cod was so small it wasn’t worth cooking… the bag it came in smelt as well. The lot went in the bin

Chips were cold and hard. Never tasted them this bad before. Loved my week treat of chips and curry sauce, but now I won't be going until it improves

Since this place changed has fish and chips lovely. Today it was horrible. Chips tasted as if they were reheated. The lovely fish we used to have was lovely white flakes. Today's fish was mushy and grey looking. Definitely not the same fish. Totally disgusted. All three of us left most of it.

Very disappointed, poor service. Waited 40 minutes. Got 2 medium cods instead of two large ones, ordered two battered sausages and got plain ones instead. Don’t waist your money there.

Chips were nice, well-sized portions and reasonably priced. A lot better than it used to be under different management years ago. Staff were lovely and friendly; only qualm is it took a little longer for food than was reasonable.

Quite nice. Cod and chips were good, but I will say that the large cod wasn't worth the extra money. The 'large' cod wasn't big enough to be called large. Nice fish and chips, but don't believe all the reviews about huge portion sizes.

After 13 hours at work and you are tired and don't want to cook, don't bother with this place as they don't take cards and the cash machine at spar is normally out of order so save yourself some time

Fish and chips for Seniors only £4.70. Quite a big piece of cod and a generous portion of chips.

Good chips good fish Knocked a star off as prices have gone up and portion sizes gone down don't mind paying more but don't give less chips and for some reason the curry sauce now has the same consistency as water

The atmosphere as you come through the door is very inviting and relaxed. Staff makes you feel very welcomed and have always a smile on their faces. The food is very tasty and cooked to order. Recently the battered fish has gone from very good to excellent. Tastes amazing, seasoned really well with a crispy batter and very little oil. Chips are chunky and homemade, cooked to perfection. It has improved massively in the last few weeks. Portions are big and prices very affordable. Highly recommended for all the good reasons !

Fish and chips of perfection! I can't fault the food, it's always impeccable and cooked fresh. The prices are very, very reasonable and the staff are extremely friendly and love to have a chat with their customers. Best chippy about other than the one in Pier Street, Lee-on-the- Solent but they own that one too.
