Only called in for early evening drinks but we were made to feel so welcome and the ale selection was so good, we ended up staying for an evening meal. Food was great and Alfie totally looked after us! We’ll definitely be going back!

Not been here for a while but thought we would try the roast dinner as we had friends with us. We had three roast dinners and one roast meat on a baguette. The portions were very generous with a good selection of vegetables and several slices of meat. Gravy was plentiful and very tasty. What stood out was the service: over the course of the meal we had several young men and one young woman serving us. All were exceptionally pleasant and friendly and very helpful. What a change from the grumpy, bored service which is now so common in many restaurants. The Fighting Cocks is a traditional pub ; it is stylishly decorated, very clean and has an interesting menu. I wasn't going to write a review on here but decided to write to the owners first but no response. If it had just been myself that was unhappy with the meal I would have left it but there were four of us all looking forward to a good Sunday roast. Had excellent food in the past. But the quality was not good. I felt embarrassed because I told my daughter and granddaughter how good it was but it wasn't. Hungry after a long trip from Bournemouth.. food was disappointing. But also disappointing is the fact the owners ignored my considerate message. So won't be going again.

We came for Sunday lunch and booked a table for 5pm. When we sat down and were given the menu the waitress quickly informed us there were no beef or lamb left. This was disappointing as 3 of us wanted beef but chose the pork instead, the menu stated all roasts would be served with veg and cauliflower cheese. The pork was very fatty and we were told when asked the cauliflower cheese wasn't available. The meal was fine but not consistent with the menu if you book later in the day.

Lovely spot, donkeys, ponies, foals but I found food not only overpriced but very low quality. My husband and I both ordered a cheese, ham and tomato panini with small salad. It was priced at £12.99 - not cheap but I was hungry and looking forward to it. When it arrived it looked nicely presented but to my shock and utter disappointment I did not find a beautiful, thick slice of ham but a scattering of tiny pieces of diced ham, most of which was fat,!!! I brought this to the attention of a server when he asked if everything was OK with our meal. He looked surprised at my complaint despite having just delivered a delicious looking meal of ham and egg and chips ti another table!! No sprinkling of fatty ham bits there but a thick meaty slice of ham!! I was offered a complimentary dessert which I declined as we were mid journey or a drink. I feel in the light of the validity of my complaint the entire meal should have been complimentary. Nobody likes to feel like they've been fleeced - sadly that was my experience. Shocking that this is happening to others on a regular basis .

We booked on a Sunday afternoon for two. We were greeted warmly and politely and shown to our table, which was a lovely booth. Our orders were taken very quickly. We ordered the beef roast x 2 as they had run out of lamb. Our drinks arrived promptly as did our food. Positives - The beef was plentiful, divine and melt in the mouth! A homemade Yorkshire pudding is always a thumbs up and the cauliflower cheese was delicious. Slight negatives - Although the gravy was tasty, there was not enough for the whole meal and no extra provided. There was not a lot of vegetables and the roast potatoes on the harder side. This does not take away how tasty everything was, just a bit more on the plate for £14.95 would be desirable. We will definitely visit again as I love the look and feel, the staff are lovely and we really did enjoy their food. Thank you.

To start I’d like to say the staff were very nice 🙂Very bland poor quality food tho! The experience, average at best. The eggs were overdone and the chips were powdery! It’s not cost effective and definitely not good value for money!!! Charged us for two cappuccino’s because it was in a small latte glass absolutely shocking!! £7.40 for one drink!!!! The dessert was very very disappointing personally I think it was a ripoff , the waffle hard and the Banoffee was a joke! embarrassingly bad. The garlic cheesy bread a stodgy mess and the so called Gammon literally ham egg and chips. To be honest the ham was ok but well hidden and very little of it !! they didn’t even send out the extras that went with it. My father-in-law is local so that’s another place for us to give a wide berth. The vegetarian burger moving mountains burger very basic in a bun £14.95. So basically £12.95 for a few chips and some salad !!! All three of us gave it 5/10 max. The pints of beer were the only thing that were priced sensibly at £4.70 each. They know they ripped us off with the cappuccino it was small glass and like I said £7.40 shame on you!!!!! Obviously we won’t be coming back it was literally rubbish. I gave two stars and that’s being very generous.

Went for 80th birthday Sunday lunch with my family (11 people) the service was extremely slow waited approximately 30 minutes for first orders to be taken and a further 30 minutes for service. The food was poor with 1 slither each of carrot & parsnip, a small spoonful of cabbage and 3 small roast potatoes, I had the lamb shank although it was OK it was on the small side. We waited at least an hour before sweet course was served. My family spent over £250 including drinks. Also due to where we were sitting one of my sons had to continually get up to allow wheel & push chairs through an internal door. Needless to say we will not be visiting again even though we have had good food and service previously.

Spur of the moment decision to go for Sunday lunch. A bit short on places to park, but managed to get one not too far away. I'd have preferred it if the ' dog - friendly ' area had been kept separate from the rest of the dining area, ( tho I appreciate that not all dogs get on well with one another ! ). One owner did allow their dog to run around un - checked, which was quite disturbing. Clients sitting near to me were having a REALLY noisy conversation about things which I'd consider better to be kept private. Nevertheless, the overall atmosphere was pleasant, as was the dining area itself. The room, table, cutlery, etc., were all clean, and the staff were very friendly, helpful, and adaptable. As a pensioner, I was allowed to order a child - sized portion, ( to leave room for dessert ! ), a concession which I really appreciated. I have a good appetite, but it was plenty for me. Great to find roast pork on the menu --- with the bonus of some marvellous crackling ! Service was prompt, and some extra requests I made, attended to with no fuss. Everything nicely cooked and tasty. My dessert was something quite unique : utterly delicious ! I wish I could afford to visit more often, but your prices are certainly not exorbitant, and my meal was worth every penny. I've recommended you to some of my friends, and I will certainly come again when I am able.

Last three visits to the Fighting Cocks have left me with a sense of bewilderment. What has happened here? What was once a decent place to eat is now no longer on my list of place to go (and in Gosport that doesn’t leave me much) Food is mostly deep fried and very salty and yet price remains high. Staff seemed disinterested in whether we liked what we were being served (it’s as if they already know that what this place now serves is below previous standards). The place really lacks any sense of direction and is disjointed (lots of “staff” operating behind the bar and have access to kitchen but I am not sure they all work there??) There are many other points I can make here but don’t want to name individuals or appear too harsh but this place has slipped under the current regime and I for one will not eat here again.

All very good we were a group of 12 and one of tge people had a seat by a door. Though it didn't seem to bother him as he enjoys talking to the people who came through.

Met a couple of old friends here on a recommendation for Sunday dinner. It did not disappoint at all. Made to feel welcome the moment we stepped in the door. We hadn’t booked ahead but were given a table in the restaurant area. The food was great. I had the topside beef. Everything cooked to perfection. My wife had the lamb and said it was great. We sat there for 5 hours drinking and eating. The staff were attentive and polite. I thought the bill was very reasonable and would recommend this place to everyone. Shane we are only visiting Gosport for a short time.

The courier refused to hand meal without a 4 number code which was no longer available. When we did get the food - it was cold !

Fantastic overnight stay at an independent hotel. Wanted for nothing and we’re well looked after by Kirsty. The full English over delivered and is highly recommended.

The batter on the fish is very heavy and greasy. Not great, sadly.

Sadly this hotel has now closed and is being transformed into a dental surgery . It will be sadly missed after years of providing good family wholesome meals coupled with great and personal service. Thanks to all concerned.

Fantastic location serving first class food, overlooking the Isle Of Wight. Food was superb and the staff are warm and welcoming, dogs are offered a warm welcome too. If your in the area it’s a must 👌5⭐️
