Terrible service, poor food and small and uncomfortable bedroom. Wish I had never set foot inside. Read my full review The hotel never replies so it is all a waste of time

Das Frühstück ist typisch englisch und gut. Das Dinner schmeckt, verschiedene Starters, eine Tagessuppe, Steaks, Fish and Chips, alles schmeckt gut.

Me quedé en el negocio. El restaurante era tranquilo y cómodo, el personal amable y servicial, la comida sabrosa, las porciones generosas. Muy complacido.

Ordered starters and 15 minutes later they told us they were out of asparagus soup, so starters reordered. Instructed to go to the carvery, where we stood in line for 15 minutes, whilst they refilled the gravy and vegetable sections. Then discovered that the pork and turkey had run out - so left with only beef. The chef carved the beef, who then picked it up with his gloved hands and plonked it on the plate. Then we waited for the sweet menu and then 30 minutes later had to ask for our order to be taken. Severely short staffed with only 2 waitresses, a supervisor, and a sole chef, when customer numbers were known well in advance. Advice - book an early table to get full choice of meat and starters

Accommodating food was hot and taste was lovely x They even laid our table for breakfast the morning of our wedding so we all could take breakfast together. 5*

Unfortunately time hasn't been kind here. It felt like a trip back to the nineties. Im amazed they still think they can charge a premium for something that Toby carvery can do better at less than half the price. The menu for during the week looked expensive for what was offered and judging by the carvery standard there is very little chance I'd consider going back to try it at those prices. Reading has lots of nice restaurants and gastropubs so it just isn't up to par. A real shame the staff seem disinterested to. It wasn't busy so there was little atmosphere, maybe a reason for the prices to cover the costs but really it has had its day.

It's many years since I had a carvery here - going back to the days when it was held on Fridays. Two of us dined last Sunday and it was superb. Nothing to fault at all. Lovely starters, tasty carvery and delicious puddings! Such good value at £15.95 a head.

I didn't know this hotel did a Sunday carvery until a Google search. Normally go to the Water Tower but that has become a bit hit & miss. Very pleasant experience and attentive staff. We did book but wasn't busy as probably few people know about it. Could do with a banner outside Andrew to advertise same.

We had our breakfast in the Resturant, service and food was excellent, the waiting on staff were particularly helpful, my husband had the full breakfast which at £10.25, which initially I thought rather expensive, but when you see the choices, it wasn't I just had toast and coffee as I have had stomach surgery and couldn't manage more, this was reflective in the price, I only paid for what I had eaten, very pleased

Excellent breakfast. Good price. Staff very friendly and attentive. Very quick to seat you at a table and offer you tea, or coffee, and toast, brown or white bread.. Plenty of choice regarding cereals, juices, hot and cold food. I always stay there when visiting Reading.

We ate at this restaurant within the Calcot Hotel, Reading, as part of a large group. The meal was 'buffet-style' and quite frankly, disgusting. My husband had the chili and was ill all night afterwards. I had the jacket potato and salad, which was tasteless but fortunately harmless. The dessert - apparently supposed to be a cheesecake - was inedible - witnessed by the fact that most people on our table left it. The waitresses reminded us of 'Fawlty Towers'. One in our party was served coffee as he ate his main course, and cutlery and crockery was cleared away in such a way that we felt we were over-staying our welcome. We will most certainly not return.

After a trip out to Kintbury decided to Google local Toby and quickly booked on line and luckily could get a table. Warm and welcoming staff. Clean restaurant and the Carvery meat all available with all accompanying vegetables hot. Quick service. Left a happy customer. Thanks again.

A Christmas gathering for ten. Very disappointing turkey meal, small portion and dry turkey, although starter and dessert was ok. In spite of pre-ordering one dessert was unavailable. No napkins or condiments on the table, no wine list offered and service from main server was unfriendly and unprofessional. She informed us at 10.00pm she was closing at 10.30pm. No Christmas spirit or atmosphere. Would not recommend
