We were going to M&S in Skipton for something for Sunday lunch,we diverted to the Woolly sheep for a drink, some very fine Timothy Taylor beers on offer and busy, looking at the menu, two of the dishes on the main menu stood out The haunch of Venison and the beef brisket we decided to eat and believe me they were outstanding, beyond excellent and a unbelievable price ( just check out the descriptive on the menu), highly highly recommend. To explain the the title of this review we had Sunday lunch at the Michelin starred restaurant last week, believe me these main course meals were better in my opinion,or at least on a par,you must go. Some negative reviews on here about Sunday lunch not surprisingly, for gods sake people, you should learn, pick something freshly prepared at at any pub or restaurant, UNLESS of course if it’s The Hawthorn at Haworth then now that is a brilliant brilliant Sunday lunch. A very memorable and enjoyable lunch at The Woolly sheep,go enjoy.

We booked for Sunday lunch as someone advised it can get busy. There were 4 of us, all wanting a Sunday lunch. We ordered drinks and couldn’t believe the price of a large NZ Sauvignon £11.50!! The same wine I get in my favourite restaurant in Sheffield is £7.95, £11.50 is far too expensive! Wouldn’t order the wine again. The food arrived on hot plates and though the individual ingredients were tasty, the food was lukewarm at best. We had waited a time so decided to eat rather than send back. We all said afterwards we wished we had sent it back! The vegetables were a tiny portion and just a mix of veg altogether which none of us liked, they were barely warm. We ordered a cauliflower cheese at an additional price and that was disappointing too - could not taste cheese at all. First time we have visited but we won’t be returning unfortunately.

We were advised of what was not available on menu. Yes Charged £34 for a very average bottle of Sauvignon. No wonder it was so quiet. Will not be going back.

Firstly let me say the refurbishment of the pub and outside eating and drinking areas are fantastic. We arrived for Sunday lunch two of us ordered the beef dinner and two had the beef and ale pie, all I can say is the beef dinners came swimming in gravy and we're at best tepid so much so we returned them and when they returned the plates were hot but the food was the same temperature, my thoughts are all the Sunday lunches are plated up prior to order as they were too uniformly the same. We were given a discount on our bill but we won't be returning for food in future.

I had the lamb rump, it was very disappointing, I fed most of it to my dog. It was practically raw, it was very tough, and had a complete lack of flavour due to being undercooked and inedible. The bean friccasé was in a very salty gravy. All in all, very disappointing for £20+ . Told staff, but no apology from the kitchen for the very poor food. Partner had fish n chips, which he was happy with, though disappointed with the flavourless crab beignets for starters. You would expect crab to have plenty of flavour, and maybe some texture, these were just tasteless mush inside fritters.

On arrival we checked in at the bar. Our room was accessed via the outside terrace, this was good as meant we could take the dog out in the morning without having to go through the hotel. The staff were lovely and all seemed to adore our girl Lola 😊 she was better fed than us during our 3 night stay! Lots of treats 😁 The location is fabulous, right in the centre and we had a great time exploring the area. We particularly enjoyed our walk through the woods. Even though it was raining, it was glorious to see and the duck pond was beautiful. We ate one night in the restaurant. It just so happened while we were there, it was Yorkshire Day and so I was able to enjoy a roast dinner with Yorkshire pudding. I was very excited about this, and if I’m being really honest, it was only ok. I’ve had much nicer. It was just lovely to spend an afternoon or evening in The Snug as the weather was very wet. Sitting there with a hot chocolate and reading a book was just bliss. Was so lovely to chat to other visitors too. One negative I really should highlight - the staff should be more vigilant to customers with aggressive dogs. Our evening was ruined one night by very selfish and irresponsible dog owners, who were seated at the door in The Snug, allowing their dog to go for every other dog who walked past. Our dog is well trained and it’s very upsetting, and frightening, witnessing this unacceptable behaviour. Despite the fact I hadn’t said a word about it, the dogs owner was just as aggressive as the dog, and started shouting over at us, calling us names and generally making a public show of herself. This was really rather distressing, caused us to have to cut our night short and leave The Snug. It would have been a far better resolution if the staff had told her to keep her dog under control, or leave. These selfish owners ruin the experience for everyone else.

This is a nice pub located on Skipton's main street. While the entrance feels a bit like a corridor, it opens up to several cozy rooms inside. The decor and dishes give it that classic pub feel. We sat in the dog-friendly room which featured a fireplace, comfy armchairs, and a view out to the street. The food came out in no time and tasted great. Staff were friendly and attentive. It's definitely worth a visit.

We came to the pub with family after a day out at Malham. We had high hopes for a lovely meal and whilst the food did taste good we paid £17 for a lamb roasts which had hardly any meat on the plate at all. I was amazed and asked the waitress if this was right, there wasn’t even one slice, just some tiny scraps. The waitress was lovely and brought me some more out but still wasn’t what you’d expect for a £17 roast. Some veg was included but cauliflower cheese was £5 per portion and if you wanted cream on your sticky toffee pudding (not ice cream) it was an extra £1 on top of the £7.50 for the pudding. I know times are tough but for what seams like a pretty expensive dinner I’d have expected better.

The first day was fine, though the weather was not. Computer system worked and reservation was found! Had already checked in via t'internet. If the Boris "clocking in system" persists, like the bl...y, them make sure you tap the app, anathema to me at 72, or fill in the appropriate form. Or, you may be asked to fill one in on your second day as a resident! Room was on the canal side, not that one can see it, on far side of beer garden, named Landlord. Comfortable and spacious, with everything on hand from packets of biscuits to sewing kit in the bathroom. And plenty of towels, even for most discerning of women! My Down's son and I had no probs! The dinner was good, if a little sparse {Pan fried duck}. I had never had sweet potato dumplings but I found the two small one on the plate, "firmer" than my worst. Maybe that's how they should be. The other veg were excellent. My son enjoyed his f & chips, and both breakfasts, which are tailored to one's taste. These are not normal days so one has to adjust. Given that interaction with the staff and other customers is verboten, we enjoyed our second stay and will go again. We would have been earlier, and booked, but Chinese exports intervened. The Hotel was very kind and charged us nothing, even though due to dithering, I had passed the cancellation deadline.

We booked to come on a Saturday after the November Lockdown. The food was lovely as always, but the service was incredibly slow! After we were seated and a drinks order was taken it was 35 minutes before we asked to order food. Similar happened for desserts. Given all bookings have a two hour time limit its difficult to enjoy your meal. Tables around us were refused their final drinks and were rushed to pay and leave as other bookings had arrived. Current restrictions make things difficult for the hospitality industry I know, but more attentive service at the beginning would prevent rushing to leave. All staff members were incredibly friendly and helpful when we were able to find them!

This was our 3rd visit to the Woolly Sheep inn and it was great to see when we arrived (Saturday 31/10/20) that it was busy and vibrant . I was most impressed with the pubs covid strategy, they had worked out a plan which all the staff understood and acted on . I would say 99% of the customers complied but I did witness a young man trying to order 4 shots after last orders and the young , male member of staff stood his ground and admirably said no , so a big shout for all the staff at the Woolly Sheep for a well worked plan in difficult circumstances. We had lunch in the pub , I had a posh fish finger sandwich in a baguette which was delicious, they have a good range of ales to suit all tastes , my favourite being Ram Tam which for some reason has been renamed Dark Landlord and they also have Hell a Bavarian lager which is very good. Our room was amazing so comfortable and tastefully decorated. Breakfast as always was fantastic. I really cannot fault the Woolly Sheep at all , it is the only place I will stay in Skipton it’s that good. I do hope all the staff survive lock down , I know it will be difficult for them financially and hope a pray this will be the last lock down, stay safe.

Me & my partner had been walking around Skipton & remembered this pub was recommended while we visited Teeside for a few days in the area,We had walked in, was greeted soon as possible asked to use the covid code to check in & was explained fully of the new restrictions. We was sat down and handed menus, we had followed the menu where it had stated "online" & it was so fast and easy. Both ladies who served us drinks & food was incredible. The manager im sure was very helpful to direct us out the building when it was our time to leave with their one way system. - food was beautiful we was both defeated by the amount was very filling! Beautiful burger & a flat bread we had ordered. Will come again next time we are down the area.Thank you to the staff.

Went for a drink and asked if we’d booked, told them we hadn’t and reply was we’re full. Didn’t ask if we’d like to wait for a table to become available. It was pouring down with rain and we had our 18 month old baby in her pushchair with us.

Visited following a recommendation. Big mistake. Large fish and chips expensive at £15, regular fish and chips miniscule. Chips overcooked and tough, pea mash was cold. Customer service attitude was - “sorry you’ve eaten it”A disappointing experience in such a lovely town which, fortunately, has many other and better places in which to eat.

Was our 30th anniversary so booked in here for a couple of nights .The pub and its location is absolutely perfect if you want to explore the town and the stunning surrounding countryside. We hit the rain for 2 days so spent a little bit longer indoors than we expected but the food and beer and friendly atmosphere made up for the weather !The staff were falling over themselves to cuddle our spaniel Buddy and couldn't do enough to for us.The room was beautiful and to a very high standard.Very cosy , tea and coffee facilities and lovely bathroom. The pandemic rules were adhered to and didn't diminish our stay there , I only wish we'd had a week or a fortnight there !Well done guys , do not change a thing !

Due to the ongoing Pandemic, and whats expected on Monday 12th Oct. My wife and I, decided to,m spend a Sat Night at The Woolly Sheep. We were NOT disappointed. There was Social Distancing, and everything was sanitised. The Beer was absolutely on Top form, especially the Ram Tam [now called Landlord Dark]. Our room was clean warm everything you could want. The Menu was cut down [due to the Pandemic], but was still of a high quality. The Staff were really helpful, and pleasant. Qe would definitely Stay There again, we were not disappointed

Had a meal there which was excellent but if your a wine drinker make sure you price the bottle before ordering or you may get a shock.

Lovely pub & well worth a visit whilst in Skipton. Friendly & helpful staff. Excellent social distancing measures in place. Great food & service with the added bonus of being dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

The staff at the Woolly Sheep are very friendly and there is a good choice of drinks. A wide range of beers, including some Timothy Tailor's we've never tried. Food was mixed. I enjoyed my burger and sides. We also had the pie which was okay, and the award-winning sausage and mash was also okay. The pub is well set out with COVID-19 guidelines. We all felt very comfortable during our time at the Woolly Sheep as there is clear one way markers, hand sanitizers and test/trace. If we come back to Skipton we will revisit

The menu for this pub is huge and I was worried that quality wouldn't match up. However, we both had burgers which were really good. Freshly prepared and nice and meaty, no complaints whatsoever. Accompaniments were good quality and plentiful. Very impressed. I have taken one star off for the wine though - there was no price list so I just chose randomly but accidentally ended up with a medium and then small glass of wine which together cost £18, which seemed very steep to me. We'd visit again but this time I'd make sure I saw a price list before ordering! Service is friendly and it's always full so make sure you book a table.

We came here not knowing any review or the place itself. We came on a Thursday evening about 6pm, were greeted politely and shown to a table. The server provided us with menus and came back five minutes later to take our order. Prices are reasonable, portions are a good size and the service and food were excellent. I don't always believe the odd negative review of Fish n Chip Restaurants as not all positive reviews are recorded, just the negative ones. We will definitely be returning when we are in the area again.

Unfortunately, the worst meal I've ever had at a Weatherspoons. Gourmet steak for me and char grilled chicken for my wife. Both sent back as being tough and uneatable. I suspect these had been pre-cooked and warmed up. The replacements were marginally better but not much. Very dissapointed.

Waited over 15 minutes to get served a drink. One uninterested barman for over 70 people. Had pre-ordered our food . It was given to someone else. The management refused to replace it as the kitchen was about to shut. Very arrogant attitude. On the plus side, a good pint of beer. Ate next door at the very friendly Lister Arms.

We called in just on speck and asked if food was available. They were serving Sunday roast with a good selection of meats. The service and the food was top class - highly recommended - great food at a great price!
