Unfortunately we didn't stop here but the public house itself is very nice set a beautiful location, bonus was they were also preparing to film the next season of All creatures great and small so the outside of the building had been renamed along with other nearby property's.

The food is superb, probably the best Ceasar Salad I have ever eaten in any establishment. The choices of food and drink are superb and the service is friendly and welcoming. Lots of real ales including mild, very well kept. It is dog friendly and you can even order a meal for your dog - ours loved their beef casserole. It is not cheap but the quality is very good value. Full of All Creatures Great and Small memorabilia and it is even still signed outside as The Drovers Arms as it is used in filming the TV series.

Had dinner and a few drinks after a days walking and the meal hit the spot perfectly (a huge gammon steak!). Good friendly service too. The restaurant is laid out a little like a school canteen with bright lighting - it’s functional but not very romantic. You might be better off eating in a side bar that felt a little more cosy. For dinner and a few drinks it does the trouble well.

Fabulous food and fabulous atmosphere. Staff can't do enough to help. We were only in Grassington for 2 days so wanted to try other places. I'm just sorry that I ate somewhere else on day two because the food and atmosphere did not meet that of the Devonshire Arms! Will definitely return to the pub!

We went to The Devonshire last Saturday for an early-evening family meal and I don't usually write reviews but I feel it's my duty to do so after some shortfalls we experienced there that I feel need improvement. Firstly, the service was great overall. Very friendly and welcoming staff who did a great job of dealing with a busy bar area and food orders at the same time. No problem with the service from that point of view. Secondly, however, a mistake was made on the till that meant we had to wait over 30 minutes for our dessert whilst our other family members finished theirs. The staff member apologised and was very civil about the error but there was no offer of a goodwill gesture to remove it from the bill, which I would expect should be mandatory in such a situation. Moreover, when the dessert arrived (sticky toffee pudding) it was the most underwhelming I've ever had. Which leads me onto.... Thirdly, the cost per portion of the main meals and desserts was extortionate. I know Grassington is popular with tourists and therefore expected a 'premium' price on food and drink but I'd hoped the portions and quality would match, which it did not. It was acceptable but not worth the price charged at all. Finally, I want to reiterate that the service was really good and the staff members were very friendly and welcoming, as was the atmosphere in the pub but for nearly £10, three spoonfuls worth of a dessert that arrived 30 mins late is an absolute con.

We had hoped to stay at the Devonshire, but it was full at the time we were due to visit. But we still decided to have an evening meal there and we are pleased we did. The menu was extensive and good value, and so much more than the usual pub fare. I had lambs liver and my partner had lamb two ways. Both meals were absolutely spot on, and very filling. Neither of us could find room for a dessert, which was a shame really. The ambience of the room was calm and relaxed, the choice of ales was good - and to add to it all, Kelsey was bright, attentive and charming. We hope to return - and possibly stay next time too.

The barman was curt and unfriendly. Then when we sat at a vacant table near the bar a local came up and threatened with malice and staring with intent indicating that we dared to sit in his regular seat even though he just showed up. The bar staff did nothing to step in even though there were 12 other seats around us. Such poor treatment of visitors spending good money. We can affirm we would not recommend this pub and would definitely not return.

We booked to stay in Grassingron for a short family break. We stayed opposite the Devonshire arms and decided to pop in for a drink. We loved the traditional style and atmosphere so decided to book for dinner the following night. After reading the mixed review I must say we really enjoyed it. They made sure all my wife’s allergies were met and our dog loved her doggie dinner. We have decided to go back again tonight if they have room for us.

I have been twice in the last 6 weeks, both on a Sunday for a roast, which I assume is their busiest day. Although the staff were great and very apologetic for the long 45min/1hr wait on both occasions, the food quality wasn’t great. It states on the menu it comes with veg, I had one green bean and one tiny boiled carrot on one occasion, and all the plates it just seemed very lacking for the price we were paying. On the other occasion we had the Barnsley chop, and it was so tough our arms were sore from trying to cut it. It’s a great pub, and a place I love to bring visitors and previous years it has been better, so I hope it can improve.

The menu for this pub is huge and I was worried that quality wouldn't match up. However, we both had burgers which were really good. Freshly prepared and nice and meaty, no complaints whatsoever. Accompaniments were good quality and plentiful. Very impressed. I have taken one star off for the wine though - there was no price list so I just chose randomly but accidentally ended up with a medium and then small glass of wine which together cost £18, which seemed very steep to me. We'd visit again but this time I'd make sure I saw a price list before ordering! Service is friendly and it's always full so make sure you book a table.

Fairly disappointed after hearing good things about Devonshire as a ‘brand’. We went on a warm autumn day after a walk with the puppy. We sat in the dog friendly indoor section, warm greeting and lovely seating area. We ordered a few meals and waited quite a while. We ordered a chicken and bacon sandwich that was absolutely caked in mayo, so couldn’t taste anything else. The chilli was ok, with a nice addition of warmed tortillas rather than the usual ‘Doritos’, but the kids fish was overcooked leaving it fairly chewy. The Cajun fries were really nice but completely overpriced for a small tub of seasoned chips. Really loved the day out in Grassington, but will make try a different place to eat next time.

There's a smell of bleach when you go into the pub which is clearly from the cleaning products they use, that said the food was great, I would like to return for more excellent food but not until they have started using food safe antibacterial products to clean there tables and food areas. Booked in for dinner. Nice busy cosy restaurant and seen too quickly. I asked for the wine list. There were names of wine on the wall with a letter but no prices. Ordered food and was told the wine list was being printed off because it had the wrong price on. Twenty minutes later and still no wine list I was again asked if I wanted to order the wine. The waitress said I’d need to wait for the list if I wanted to know any prices before ordering it ? ? ? which I did. Anyway soon a list came. Just names , no maker, region, description, ABV. just a (quite high) price. Anyway I then ordered keen to crack on. Service friendly, food tasty enough and ok. Overpriced really but choca block none the less.

I've been in this pub loads of times for drinks and food and am never disappointed. Food is delicious and well cooked, staff are lovely and friendly and always have time for a chat. Dogs welcome too. I've seen some reviews talk about the price of drinks, but higher prices are pretty standard in the national parks. You want cheap rubbish, stick to chains and inner cities. We were staying in Grassington for the Bank Holiday, and due to the awful weather abandoned our walk and adjourned to the Devonshire for drinks. Being a Bank Holiday Sunday, the pub was very busy with lots of people dining. The drinks prices though! It looks very similar to a Weatherspoons when you walk in, but there the resemblance ends. We live in an expensive part of Yorkshire, where at our local (not a Spoons) we pay for a pint of Moretti/San Miguel and a medium glass of white wine around £10.50. Here at the Devonshire exact same drinks £16.50! Got talking to some locals, and they get a hefty discount with a locals loyalty card, so clearly this overpricing is squarely aimed at tourists. It's a 3 star establishment charging 5 star prices.

Stopped here for food after a long walk. Very busy when we arrived but managed to get a nice table outside in the sun. Nice menu and went inside to order. There was two groups of people so we ordered separately but within a few minutes of each other. 25 mins later some of the food came out (from the first group that ordered) Ten mins later I went inside to ask how long our food would be and was told it was 'next out'. After an hour our food finally arrived! (And our friends had already long finished eating their meals) There was no real apology for the long wait, and I can only assume they somehow missed our order and only started cooking it once I went in to ask about it. I ordered the 'smash burger' which was ok. However the meat itself was dry and it was not definitely not a smash burger. Please do not call it a smash burger if it's not smashed! It was just 2 small patties of regular burger thickness with a lot of really lovely cheese on top. The thick chips were very nice but sorry to say I've had much better burgers for a cheaper price elsewhere. Not a great first impression and will try a different restaurant in town next time.

A pretty chaotic experience if I’m being honest! I walked into the place and the staff seemed stressed out with how rammed the place was. I asked a waitress if I could be seated - she said ‘sorry, I’m really busy right now’. When I was eventually seated, it was on the aisle - where people were walking/running up and down! I just wanted to sit and eat in peace! I asked to move and they were nice enough to seat me somewhere a bit more comfortable. My drink and meal came in good time and the food was actually pretty good. I had a clear view of the bar and the mishaps that followed! Several tables were waiting a long time for their meals, a few customers came to the bar staff asking where their food was. From what I heard, I don’t think one of the waiters put the food order through for one table. I feel like the staff probably needed a stiff drink after today. They look overworked and unable to cope with the demand. Management need to sort it out. Not the quiet, idyllic pub you expect in such a beautiful village.

Went in for last orders after staying elsewhere in Grassington (which is beautiful and well worth the visit). We had our dog with us. It was pretty busy, as there was a quiz on that we could hear from the square (more on that in a bit). As it was gone 10pm it was a bit chilly out so we decided to find a space inside. There was one room that was suspiciously quiet so I thought that must be a restaurant so I looked all round the wall, doorway for any sign that it was food only. Couldn't see one. Asked the two tables that were sat in there, they didn't know. A staff member came up to us and said can I help so I asked if we could sit in there. He shooed us out sharpish saying, 'Not with a dog, ABSOLUTELY NOT!' Personally, I feel a 'No, sorry' would have been sufficient. Now not sure I wanted to stay, he gestured to a table in front of the quiz master. It was very loud there as it was in front of the speaker as well as the quizmaster. I said it was a bit loud there and the guy dead eyed me and said 'There's a quiz on, love'. Omfg. PATRONISING. Like I said, we knew before we went in. My point was the table was front and centre to the speakers. Anyway, he walked away, obviously uninterested in wether we stayed or left - we left. Blighted an otherwise wonderful trip to the Dales and the beautiful market town of Grassington. Doubly disappointing as we'd been looking forward to going to the Devonshire. Don't let it put you off going to Grassington. We went to other super welcoming places there and it's gorgeous (shout out the Black Horse which was fabulous).

I attended the Devonshire in Grassington with 5 of my friends yesterday afternoon (outside of course) following the new restrictions, we ordered our food - starters and mains. Firstly, they brought all our food out together (starters and mains) and when we addressed this situation they basically said tough. So we had to sit there with our sandwiches going stale and our chips going cold whilst we ate our starter. I think this is appalling when it was them who messed up. Secondly, a waiter spilt a drink over one of my friends and no apology was given, in fact he said ‘maybe you shouldn’t of grabbed that beer off that tray’. He was very rude and unpleasant. One waiter was very lovely and pleasant and apologetic - which we all appreciated. A tall young man with glasses. After this we were asked to leave (which yes I understand) and have no qualms about but when we have been asked to leave (not offered a pudding of any sort) when people inside (clearly not from the same household) can sit all afternoon and not be questioned or asked to leave. I think it’s a joke. I definitely won’t be returning. Appalling. I think if we had been of an older age group we wouldn’t have had this service. Seems unfair.

However, if a person in hospitality can't wear a cloth mask it would be better if they wore a face shield. If neither are possible then regular, obvious, hand sanitising and washing are a must.I was unimpressed by the management (or those who appeared to be the people who were in charge. Walking in the Grassington area today and by chance as we walked through Grassington it was lunchtime. Instead of the packed lunch in our rucksack we decided to sit outside on the benches with our dog. The covid precautions were excellent and the method of ordering was very very clear. Other pubs should learn!.We ordered two roast beef lunches. The plate was the size of a Mexican sombrero! A heap of mash and swede with delicious gravy soaked carrots. Roast parsnips and roast potatoes. The waitress then say she will bring the veg out! Another plate with cauli cheese, cauliflower, baby corn, broc and mange tout arrives. Piping hot and delicious. It really was excellent. It's not the cheapest lunch but in our view well worth it.The only downside was it was really hard walk to get walking again to continue our journey! Service was excellent and just the right amount of attentiveness. Thanks

Had a ‘specials’ Thursday night meal of 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £40. Steak was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Wine was good too. Very filling really enjoyed.

Went in for evening meal. We got a very friendly welcome and were shown to out table. House rules for covid compliance were explained, basically everything was table service. don't get up and wander around except to go to toilet and if you do, wear a face covering. All pretty sensible and a good balance of safety and convenience. Food was good quality pub fare and the service was great. What more do you want?

....and provider of drinks during dinner as the local Indian opposite does not have a licence. Following social distancing, we were seated and our order taken. Very good and reasonably priced, nice decor and plenty of screening in place to keep you safe.

Had a lovely meal, only the soggy chips let it down. Beer was really fresh, the best pint we have had since well before lockdown, staff all wore masks or visors, and were very friendly and knowledgable, have already booked for another day.

Quality English Fayre on the menu. Unlike many other places currently they have kept to the full menu. The landlord and serving staff are second to none with their helpfulness etc. Covid measures all in place and plenty of space from table to table. A choice of real ales available, too.

Visiting the lovely village and decided to have lunch here which was very nice. I had the vegi pizza and hubby had fish finger sandwich. When we entered the pub we had to fill out our contact details which was good but I felt that the staff should have been wearing masks when taking orders from us and other customers. The tables were not spaced out enough either and we had a family of 4 put right next to us which made us feel uncomfortable. The pub is lovely and staff very friendly but I do feel that masks would have made us feel safer.

We called in for a Sunday roast and were very pleased with it. Most roasts I’ve had in pubs tend to be not as good as I can do myself, but here the beef was good quality and tender and the Yorkshire pudding was excellent. Our cheesecake dessert was also better than most. Service was good, tables reasonably separated and the place felt clean and safe.

Visited with family. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Excellent menu that catered for different dietary needs. Cauliflower starter and mussels were delicious. The cheese pie was absolutely delicious served with chunky chips, veg and gravy. The ham and eggs with chips went down well also. Great atmosphere and Covid friendly. A great pub in a fabulous village. All Creatures Great and Small is filmed here. Loved it! Keep up the good work.

Before I explain our meal I have to say that the staff were good. I ordered pork belly and my husband ordered mince and onion pie with triple cooked chips. The rind on my belly pork was soft and there was only a tiny piece of meat at one end of it, the rest was a pure block of fat. I know belly pork is fatty but apart from the small piece of meat at the end it was pure fat. I sent it back and ordered smoked haddock fishcakes instead. Unfortunately, there was a lot of black fish skin in both cakes. My husbands pie was way overcooked, pastry very hard and meat dry (we think the pie was triple cooked as well as the chips). Maybe we were just very unlucky.

Giving an average review as been twice and the first time it was good and the second time it was below average. Son’s food was really terrible.... do not order the chicken strips which is basically a very dried up piece of chicken sliced up. I did feedback but they were not interested at all. Never seen anything like it tbh.... I would’ve been embarrassed to bring it out......No one seems too fussed.... it’s just very ‘ok’ but kind of wished we had just taken a picnic and saved our money. Will not return and there are some other great places in the village.A shame but there you go..... they need to step it up a notch or 5

Today I took my two grandchildren to the farm for a day out. We went to the cafe for lunch which was dire. The ciabatta cheese and ham sandwich was dreadful. Bread so hard it could break your teeth, two small pieces of ham which I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to be bacon or cooked meat and the cheese was some kind of orange coloured melted mess that I’m not even sure was cheese! There was virtually nothing in the sandwich. The chicken goujons were dry and the coating burnt. The cappuccino was only lukewarm and bitter. It was awful and a very long wait for the food and the food is expensive. We won’t be going there again.

The final night of our week's holiday in the local area we didn't want to cook and my wife had spotted mussels on the menu as we walked past during the day. Booked a table, although there were a number of tables available throughout our meal. Pleasant and attentive staff and a good selection on the menu, including daily specials. A no-rush enjoyable meal and would have stayed to listen to the Irish live music next door if suitcase packing had not been a priority. Well worth a visit.
