The Woodpecker Pub in Havant

We had a gathering to say goodbye to my daughter who was off to Australia. The whole evening was wonderful- relaxed and well organised. The staff were really attentive and everyone said afterwards what a great venue and great evening it was. They let us put our own decorations up and were happy to accommodate all our requests. I would highly recommend The Woodpecker and would 100% use the venue for an other celebration or gathering. Thanks again

Visited on a quiet Easter Monday whilst staying nearby overnight to catch an early ferry to France the following morning. A functional meal was all we wanted and what we got. Foodwise it was not cordon bleu but the service we got from Will was excellent which isn’t very often these days. He was friendly and efficient and we left full and satisfied.

We came here for a family meal and wasn't impressed. Ordered a starter as main and it turned up as a starter. Ordered kids pizza, and after about half an hour said no kids pizza. Ordered surf and turf and was told no rump steak so had to upgrade to sirloin, which was actually like eating a leather shoe. This meal included about 10 chips and 10 peas. It also included 3 prawns. The desserts arrived correctly, but minus spoons

Popped in for lunch with a friend and experienced a particularly helpful member of staff (the manager i believe) I have coeliacs disease and can not eat gluten. I asked at the bar if they had a gluten free menu and unfortunately they did not. The man offered to pull up allergen advice on his tablet and came over to the table with it once he had everything loaded up. Explained how it worked and left it with me to go through and work out what i’d like. I went for a chicken, bacon & avocado salad and omitted the grains and dressing as they appeared to have gluten. I also wanted some sweet potato fries. He explained that although they were gluten free the oil they were cooked on had gluten containing food also fried in it. I was a bit disappointed and after a few moments he suggested trying the sweet potatoes in the oven instead. He couldn’t guarantee how they’d turn out but he’d try. They turned out great and i love how he went out of his way to provide great service. I will definitely return and appreciate the kind gesture in getting me a safe and tasty lunch! Thank you!

We've lived on the doorstep for 19 years and it gets worse every year. It's 50/50 whether they're serving food during the advertised times, and we've just been in a 2 mins to ten and they are not even serving drinks. When they are serving food it's very bland at best; without telling you they often substitute something they don't have with something even more bland... last time they substited baby new potatoes with plain boiled potatoes - honestly, this place is a joke. Have a look at Ember Inns reviews; 61% are ONE STAR... ONE STAR, and I can see why - the sooner it closes and gets taken over by a competent parent company or licencee the better. Come on Woody - it's not hard to do better than this...in fact, it woukd be hard to do worse

Came in for the quiz had a great night staff were helpful, will was great, might try the food next time as well will be back again

Always get treated extremely well by all staff, particularly Charlotte and the Landlord Jason. Loads of smiles by all staff and welcoming. They are fab there. Thanks guys for treating us so well

Staff are so friendly and takes the time to have a conversation. Food is very good, hot and tasty and the hunters chicken was very succulent. Good value for money, was able to get drinks quick at the bar with great speedy service.

Visited on Sunday for brunch, warm, and polite, welcome from Amy who took our order at the bar. Amy brought our hot drinks to the table and our brunch followed shortly. Good quality food and very reasonably priced. Would only say it was a bit chilly in the restaurant. But all in all a very good visit, will return.

Mother day Lunch Will not be back on Sundays. Firstly the male manager seemed very abrupt and rude not just to myself but over hearing the way he spoke to elderly customers was awful! I felt so sorry for them, as people were Coming in and sitting down he spoke to some of them like they were idiots. One elderly Couple came in and sat at A table not realising that they were fully booked and instead of explaining that ‘they are really sorry but where it is Mother’s Day they are very busy and won’t have a table u till this evening’ he just responded with ‘no sorry we’re fully booked all day it’s the busiest day of the year’ in a sarcastic manner! We ourselves work in hospitality I get it is stressful on those key days of the year but even refusing to let us swap a table not next to the door because it was cold and we had a 4 month old baby didn’t really sit well with me, he didn’t even try to look at other tables to see if they could be swapped around? !As I put in our booking notes that space for pushchair would be great as young baby so I have no idea why they thought would be great idea to put us next to the door when there is plenty of space everywhere in the pub! There seemed to be a wait on food early on but that wasn’t explained to any customers, and when the food did arrive it was over cooked, dry and the veg and potatoes did not look fresh at all. Most of our party left the meat as the gammon was more like tough bacon. It’s such a shame because the female staff were all amazing and very helpful and polite and even the gentleman on the bar was helpful and polite, just the attitude of the manager on shift and food was a let down. And if he didn’t want to be chasing people around because they’ve sat themselves then he should have been greeting and sitting them properly at the door.

Started out okay, shared a bowl of wings on the table. however no plates provided for everyone to put our bones on. Then mains took forever to come out, 3 Sunday roasts and a sea bass main. All under seasoned and vegetables either bone dry or soaking wet. Food was only just hot enough to eat. Puddings were supposed to redeem the meal but unfortunately were the final nail in the coffin. ordered 4 sundaes. They all came out in normal bowls and the Eaton Sundae didn't even have any ice cream in it. The only redeeming part of the meal was the friendliness of the staff. Wish I had taken photos of the puddings to to show how poor they were.

Warm welcome, even though we booked we were able to sit where we liked! Which was goid as we prefer sitting by the windows. It was easy for us to order with the young girl at the bar. She was very friendly. The food came out quickly and was very nice as always. The fishcakes were cooked perfectly. The manageress was very friendly and attentive. We will be back of course.

Took advantage of the nice weather and decided to take a walk to our local for a roast. It was very busy and we managed to get a table we probably should have booked but we now kno for next time. We were able to order easily at the bar and were greeted by the friendly staff behind the bar. We ordered duo roast dinners, took a while to come out but what was to he expected when the place was heaving. When it did arrive it was alot even I struggled but the roast chicken was juicy and gammon was tasty and the gravy was nice vegetables were piping hot and potatoes were fluffy. We will definitely be back and recommend to our friends as the staff are very friendly and helpful even if they are running around thankyou

Great quality food, we dine here most weeks and have never had a problem. Staff are more than welcoming and helpful, they make good conversations and really put the recognition in.

Great food and service and a good vegan choice.

Not very impressed, think they are loosing it, chips were cold and stale, burger tasted off, but we were hungry and had my little grandchild with us, mentioned to the waitress that we were not happy with the food, but she just apologised. Don't think we will be going back there.

The food was lovely, as were the girls that ran backwards and forwards with our food ( there were 9 of us) . The evening would have been perfect if, when we arrived, we hadn't been told to sit in the back and to rearrange the tables and chairs ourselves so that we could sit together. This was despite booking for 9 people and arriving dead on time. I felt this was very rude and a very poor standard of hosting.

Cree who served us at the bar to take our order and to serve our food was extremely friendly. She double checked we were happy with our orders when placed and then again when we received them. Cree was very efficient and showed a lot of care for her customers. Nothing was too much for her! She was also friendly to my son who was watching her working around the pub and so too was the gentleman behind the bar whose name I didn’t get. Thank you again for making our experience with you a pleasure.

Very upset with the service. Can’t fault the food but the service from the lady with red hair was extremely rude. Moody behind the bar serving & dismissive. Also rude serving food. Really suggest you change your staff.

Greatbooked online that the pub was busy, for you, very poor that we wouldn’t receive our meal for an hour and a half. Left and went to a beefeater, very very disapointed. Wasted our time and your/our booking.

It looked a very pretty pub from the outside, so went in. The inside was very tired, the chairs were filthy and some were torn. It needed a total revamp. We should have left at that point but the staff was friendly and we were hungry, we ordered the grilled chicken which was dry, totally overcooked more like a rubber ball, probably would have bounced too. the food was Bland. We would not go back. And in our opinion certainly would not recommend.

Avoid, this is a poor pub. Food average. Pub is tired , worn out and the toilets are disgusting.

Absolutely awful place! Really rude staff and clientele...the two guys that run it...vile queens! Never again...food is tasteless and very over priced!

Out of 7 breakfast all the fried eggs were hard. Mine particularly were a strange crispy rubber. I requested replacement eggs, which also came out hard. Mentioned it staff, who said they'd let someone know. It was a family get together so a shame, we would not eat there again. Someone suggested Wetherspoons, saying its much better. Decor was very tired, threadbare carpets and chair coverings. I would not visit again.

We went for bearkfast with Santa this morning and it was so disappointing. The staff were very friendly but Santa did not seem at all interested in the children. He spent less than 1 minute with each of them. We were not allowed to choose from the breakfast menu, the only option was a cooked breakfast and it was not good. The bacon was anemic and covered in fat and the portion sizes were tiny. As mentioned, the bar staff were friendly but I wouldn't recommend this pub for breakfast with Santa.

Brilliant, 16 of us, retired railwaymen, sat down to lunch on Dec 12. Although short on staff I thought it was going to be a disaster but far from it. The three course meal was superb and everyone enjoyed it. Even the beer prices were very fair. A great three and half hours. Please thank the girls and chef for making our lunch such a success. Nothing was anywhere near great, it was pre-booked but we had to wait over 90 minutes for the meals to arrive, 2 of the meals were gammon , egg and chips, the gammon was in numerous small pieces and the eggs were all overcooked. There were no real apologies or explanations. None of the party have any intention of returning.

Very upsetting as we had to wait for 11/4 hours for our main courses and we had friends with us, very embarrassing. We noticed the pub needs to have some improvements done to paint work. We will not be visiting again!!!!

Met up with family , had to wait near on 1hour 30 minutes for main meal. When we queried about how long it would be, we were told just coming, & still had to wait another 20 minutes. Got a refund on dessert.as couldn’t wait any more .Cant understand why service was so slow as was not overly busy . Table next to us were getting impatient as well over waiting time . Would visit for drinks only as bar area was not busy, but not for food .

The food here is hit & miss. Sometimes ok other times not! Service can be a bit slow at times. Keeping away for a while as it can be disappointing when the food isn't good.

A lovely friendly pub, I went to a 60th birthday party and it's a great, well decorated venue. We didn't eat from the menu, but the buffet was good and varied.

First time I've been here in a few years. Friend and I visited Wednesday evening. Nice atmosphere, good seating. I noticed food could be ordered for wherever we sat (though we were eating elsewhere that evening). Bar staff friendly and engaging. Will be going again

Meeting a friend for lunch so we chose this pub. Disappointing visit. Not one craft ale available at all even bottled ales despite special offers being advertised for craft ales. Staff were not very friendly or helpful. One cleared a plate from the table & left the rest. When they brought new drinks we called them back to ask them to clear the used plates. No-one asked if our food was good, in fact no interaction except to take orders at the bar. Food ordered from the daytime menu. It was basic and adequate but nothing special. We won't be returning.

Lovely roast dinner, cabbage overcooked and watery, but the rest, lovely.

Food and service were not good this time. Waited ages for our mains to arrive and the food was lukewarm. Hot desserts were stone cold and not appetising to eat, very disappointing and will not return for a long time. Two courses ordered at 13.40 and desserts finally arrived at 15.15 and the place was not busy.

Chips were quite cold so was the custard, the rest of the food was lovely and with friendly waiting staff we had a good evening.

The pub ambience is excellent and the staff are all very welcoming and just make the visit delight

When we arrived a staff member was taking up a table for 4 by the fire. The pub was virtually empty but the staff member didn't have the presence of mind to vacate the best seat in the pub for their customers. Just stupid

the worst Sunday dinner i have ever purchased , inedible, , beef so tough I couldn't eat it , roast potatoes dry and no taste , I stopped there , No-one came to ask if the food was ok, and no one about as we left , never again

Very busy evening, staff seemed to be working really hard trying to serve everyone and give out food but also being incredibly friendly and helpful at the same time! The food was really nice - chicken and ribs are a go to! All in all a very nice evening and will be coming again!

Food tasted great and was hot to the table. I think I'd rather my Sunday roast wasn't in a pile on the plate for presentation, but thats my own opinion. Great price too. We coined our apple pie with custard, 'custard gate' (in that we needed one!) as the plate was square and flat; I'd rather a bowl. Unfortunately the Cappuccinos we ordered were more like hot milk which was a disappointing end to a lovely meal and a great venue.

After visiting this establishment we decided to book a festive meal also! The atmosphere was really nice, the staff were approachable. Food reasonably priced and there wasn't much of a wait on food. Service really good.

Amazing staff managed to get us a table for 10 people at 19:00 on a Friday with 20 minutes notice staff were kind and very helpful with the infant we had with us and overall quick service.

Staff is very welcoming and attentive. The food menu had lots of variety. Easy to order at the table on the app and drinks arrived in good time!! Definitely recommend this pub, its dog friendly and family friendly.

We had a party of 10..i have never known salad, to come out on a plate dried up and burnt. Another meal came out with dried up fish, 3 sticks of dry string asparagus. Deserts waffles we're hard. Nobody came over to check if our meal was ok? Totally uninspired with our meals.

Disappointing meal. We ordered a steak for my husband who isn't eating chips so ask for vegetables instead which they said was fine food came out with onion rings mushroom and a large old looking salad no grilled tomato no peas no vegetables so paid £18 for a steak 3 onion rings and a mushroom. My daughter orders the cheesy bbq chicken breast which came out with no cheese and very chewy breast. Shame really as service and staff polite but would not recommend or go back

Recently got invited to a family gathering party at The Woodpecker, we had a lovely little area cordoned off just for us and other family members had gone along and decorated it throughout the day. They said the staff were more than happy to help as much as they could in between serving other customers which was very much appreciated especially Lisa. Food was great, reasonably priced and I even downloaded their app and got myself a free drink! Kids were happy with the options available too and i have a fussy eater! Thanks for a lovely evening! I’m a local at The Woodpecker and don’t normally leave reviews but feel like Jason and his team deserve the biggest congratulations for the festival they threw a couple of weeks ago. The day was a great success and I’d say enjoyed by all! Great to see live music locally and so well supported especially when held for charity! The outside bar Lisa & Charlotte ran was a great addition too, they were quite happily running in to the main bar if it didn’t have what you were after too! Hoping it will become a yearly thing please!

Came in Monday for some lunch with some friends, I ordered the cheese and bacon burger which was very tasty, great staff, very welcoming, Ella was really helpful to our table and was a very great worker on the bar and waiting our table, will definitely be returning again 👍🏼

Booking a table in this establishment is a waste of time, booked in person a week ago for a birthday lunch when arrived the table I had booked had been allocated to other people bearing in mind the establishment was half empty the management was very arrogant with no apology food nothing special steak very tough , bar and waitress no personally at all , needless to say will not be returning very dissatisfied with the service.

Came today as part of a group for a christening all had a set menu food came our all hot fab service and very organized

Lisa and Jason went out of there way to help us enjoy my daughters 25th birthday celebrations 🍾 we had the brunch menu, which was delicious, service was brilliant. All staff were happy and helpful... We honestly couldnt fault anything and have returned several times since for lunches and drinks. Thank you 😊

Service awful. Calum who took order at the bar- very polite. Older lady with blonde hair and glasses (unsure of name). Said she was going to look for tartar sauce (which came with my meal) but never returned, so began eating my food after 10 minutes. Sadly, this happened last week (exactly the same situation). I ordered fish and chips and they had no tartar sauce. I said I would of liked to know when I ordered and this was being served by the same lady. Nans meal didn’t arrive until another 10 minutes after the others and was stone cold. Chips look as re heated. h All meals cold. Steak tough as anything. General bad quality over all and staff don’t seem to care (Wednesday 13th September 18.40pm). Great if you want to be ignored and have cold, re heated food. Disappointed it’s the closest pub to us!

Staff where great nice and friendly and helpful Food was not so good we ordered 7 meals but only 4 were OK the other 3 were fish and chips but they were not good, well overcooked even the waitress noticed I appreciate it was a midweek offer but this should not make any difference to the portion sizes either We visit quite regularly and I really noticed the difference last night we brought friends with us to celebrate a special occasion saying it was good but they were disappointed as well

One of the worst meals I have had recently, the bass was overcooked as was the asparagus served on top of new potatoes that were under cooked and cold

We regularly use The Woodpecker with family and friends. The prices are very reasonable and the venue is children friendly. We love the rewards card and offers. The waiting on team work hard and always have a smile on their faces. Lisa is very friendly...

This local pub has left the best impression! Friendly hosts, delicious dishes, inviting presentation and decadent dessert. We will come back here again and again. The only slight down was the outside furniture is a bit wobbly: let’s hope the brewery lay out some cash...

Service and food was splendid, we all had a grand time. The sweet potato fries were excellent and the steak was cooked to perfection.

Dog friendly pub with a little dog station stocked with water, blankets and treats. Love this. Friendly staff and great food at good prices: the burgers are fab.
