My second visit here with our adult children (doesn’t happen very often because not everyone is local) last time we were blown away by the Sunday roast and this time we were equally impressed with the steak and ale pie. Amazing food, reasonable prices, friendly staff and great service, we were even talking about moving to Emsworth at some point! We’ll definitely be making a return visit before too long.

Myself and my wife visited here for the first time today, having been past it many times. Very polite and friendly staff, we sat out in the garden in an area designated as no smoking or vaping which was great for us as we dislike the smell of both. We ordered home made lasagne and scampi and chips, both which arrived in a timely fashion and were extremely tasty. The mince for the lasagne is brought from the local butchers Price for drinks was a reasonable £4.90 for a pint of Stowford Press and small coke, plus around £26 for the meals. All in all very impressed and will visit again. Highly recommended

What a great pub with great food and the most welcoming staff. The food was excellent and I was fortunate enough to have the Ploughman's lunch (it's virtually impossible to get a Ploughman's where I live in SW London), and it was everything I expected and more! Great prices too. Thanks Coal Exchange, I'll be back.

Just popped in for a drink. The second time I went to the bar after asking for the drinks the server started talking to a 'regular' and made no further effort to look or talk to me and just shoved the payment machine on the bar. The gents hand dryer was broken and no paper towels left. Table layout is poor leaving very little space. Overall we formed the impression that if you're not a regular then it's not worth their effort. We won't be going back.

Fantastic experience. A real family feel to this place. Prompt service. Polite staff. My son and I ordered our food, and were very pleased with its appearance and presentation when it arrived. I can honestly say it was mouth wateringly excellent. My son enjoyed a burger, chips and salad and loved it. I had fresh battered cod and chips. I have had many fish and chips from all over the South over the years. This was exceptionally pukka. The batter was crispy and melted in the mouth (no yucky gungy batter close to fish) it was superb. Big succulent cod, which was not dry at all and tasted lush. The chips were clean and perfect. The presentation was very good, and the batter stayed crisp and the fish hot all the way through to the end. I will definitely be back. All the customers appeared very happy with their meals too. A great experience all round. Thank you

Favouritism from bartender- one called out to his friend, who was stood behind us, and served him before us. He didn’t apologise or even acknowledge this when we brought it up with him. Left without ordering, far better pubs on offer in Emsworth such as The Blue Bell or Raglan.

I need to change my original review after a bad experience at Sunday Lunch yesterday. I waited 20 minutes to get served at the bar whilst the 2 bar staff were chatting to regular customers and one spent a considerable amount of time with one customer who had bought a quantity of raffle tickets then left the bar to write the name on the tickets. Also if a regular turned up they ignored me and served them first.Apart from the HSB the visit was spoilt by poor staff Food was OK buy not great red cabbage was inedible Would not visit again or recommendrecommend

I need to completely change my previous review after today's experience for Sunday Lunch I waited at the bar for 20 minutes to get served whilst the 2 servers were chatting to other customers and one sorting out raffle tickets with a regular also if a new customer arrived who was known they got served before me . The bar staff seemed only interested in regular customers. The food was OK but not brilliant the red cabbage was inedible this was mentioned to the server who took no further action . The only good thing was the pint of HSB. I would not return to be ignored again

This pub may not be as glamorous as some nearby, but inside there was a warm welcome. We were a large group, our only difficulty was deciding on what we fancied as there was a good choice for lunchtime. The service was friendly, speedy and organised. We often travel in a large family party and we find one of us doesn’t get our meal at the same time, or personal choices are forgotten. But the Coal Exchange managed it all exceptionally well and we all really enjoyed our food. Reasonable value too, in these days of increasing prices, good size portions

We were meeting up with friends near Emsworth and found this pub for dinner. We had booked by phone and found our reserved table. The first thing we noticed was the freindly "buzz" in the bar with many locals and 2 open fires going (it was cold outside). A member of the staff came over promptly and took a drink order left the menu which had a wide range of choices, we chose fish, steak and ale pie and lamb shank. The food was fantastic I had the pie which was home made maybe 2" thick absolutely full of meat the other meals were equally as good, and all at a reasonable price. The food wasn't cheap but the Sunday roast was abysmal. Rock hard potatoes, the staff couldn't care less and decided as I wanted to swap red cabbage for cauliflower cheese, this would cost me a side dish. I declined but ended up with the red cabbage taken off my plate. It took nearly 50 minutes to get food despite it being half empty. A huge disappointment.

We had a lovely weekend stay at the Brookfield hotel. We had a function on the Saturday night which was a 7 course meal and I have to say I was blown away with the service and the reassurance of my gluten free options, I could literally have exactly the same dishes as everyone else with just a couple of tweaks I couldn’t believe it! A lovely gentleman served me who I think was a manager (I am so sorry I cannot remember his name) which made me feel so looked after as it can be daunting eating out somewhere new! All staff were helpful and made the evening run smoothly it was very professional! The room was basic but clean and had everything we needed, the only thing I would say is more plug sockets but that’s not the end of the world! Also it was a bit expensive for room service as a sausage and bacon sandwich ended up being £13.45 including tray service but again with inflation maybe that’s why it was that much! Apart from that there was plenty of parking at a small charge and the hotel was easy to get around. Thank you for looking after us, it was the best meal I’ve had as a coeliac plus the most I’ve ever been able to eat!
