We had a lovely weekend stay at the Brookfield hotel. We had a function on the Saturday night which was a 7 course meal and I have to say I was blown away with the service and the reassurance of my gluten free options, I could literally have exactly the same dishes as everyone else with just a couple of tweaks I couldn’t believe it! A lovely gentleman served me who I think was a manager (I am so sorry I cannot remember his name) which made me feel so looked after as it can be daunting eating out somewhere new! All staff were helpful and made the evening run smoothly it was very professional! The room was basic but clean and had everything we needed, the only thing I would say is more plug sockets but that’s not the end of the world! Also it was a bit expensive for room service as a sausage and bacon sandwich ended up being £13.45 including tray service but again with inflation maybe that’s why it was that much! Apart from that there was plenty of parking at a small charge and the hotel was easy to get around. Thank you for looking after us, it was the best meal I’ve had as a coeliac plus the most I’ve ever been able to eat!

A little bit mixed I'm afraid the hotel cleanliness was spotless(but maybe put a toilet brush in the bathroom). The staff were very friendly, we had a little bit of a nightmare getting the hot water to run. The whole hotel was very cold especially the dining room. The heating wasn't turned on in the room and it was freezing when we got in there the husband had to fiddle around with it. They tried to charge us full price for the breakfast we had while we were there, but I only had a pot of tea and scrambled eggs on toast. They also charge you £5.00 a night for parking in their own car park. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Limited menu but some good food well presented. Not keen on Burgers and fish and chips and it appeared that some other customers were not impressed. Thank goodness there were other more inviting items available. Some of the waiters need a bit more training regarding customer interaction.

No menu on table for breakfast. Food just thrown on plate. No fruit to go cereal and when it arrived at the same time as the cooked food we were told we should have specified when ordering that we wanted a cereal first. Dinner was a disaster also. Overcooked lasagna and fish. The only saving grace was Heidi and Karen but sadly they cannot work every shift. Eat outside hotel the hotel

Treated ourselves to afternoon tea at The Brookfield one Friday afternoon - delicious sandwiches and fabulous selection of cakes, not to mention the fruit and plain scones, jam and clotted cream with an endless supply of tea. We enjoyed our visit so much we decided to book for Sunday lunch the same weekend. What a treat! We both opted for the roast striploin of beef which was tender and very tasty, the most delicious and crispy roast potatoes. A great selection of fresh vegetables including one of our favourites - cauliflower cheese. Puddings were equally as delicious - so difficult to decide which to have! Service was second to none and we felt very safe in the environment. Staff wore face coverings or sheilds the whole time but nothing was too much trouble. Will be returning again very soon.

Being on a Travelzoo deal which included dinner we were fortunate enough to take dinner on two evenings in this lovely restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed them both. The menu although not extensive was ample for our requirements and the cheese board was particularly good. The special arrangements in force due to the pandemic were absolutely fine and the staff did a very good job in these difficult times.

Our first stay at a hotel since lockdown and we couldn't be more impressed. Our check-in was quick, social distance observed, plenty of parking spaces at the front @ £5.00 per day. Travel Zoo deal, included two course dinner, breakfast each day and a lovely bottle of prosecco. Our executive room was spotless, toiletries in a sealed bag, lots of unnecessary bits removed from the room, a fan was provided, ample wardrobe and drawer space, spacious room and bathroom. Lovely outside garden area, fully stocked bar. Dinner and breakfast was excellent freshly cooked, super friendly staff, we ate at the same table with lots of space in between. Due to COVID-19, the hotel is scruplessly clean so no need to worry. Would definitely recommend, please book and support this lovely hotel.

We stayed at The Brookfield overnight and used the Hermitage on a Travelzoo deal. It was excellent value. The room was fine for what we paid and being at the back of the hotel it was quiet. The evening meal which was included in the deal was fine being a cash allowance from the a la carte price. The service was a bit quirky with a number of items not being available. The hotel is a good venue to explore the coast between Chichester and Portsmouth and you can walk into Emsworth from the hotel.

We visit The Hermitage Restaurant regularly for Sunday lunch, particularly with friends. Our last trip recently was as delightful as usual and the chef was most obliging and accommodating with some special requests. Delicious, good quality and well presented food. We opted for the roast beef - melt in the mouth - and a Yorkshire pudding that almost floated off the plate! Cauliflower cheese our absolute favourites, roast potatoes, green beans and carrots - delicious. An apricot frangipane tart for pudding - yummy. Keep up the good work - we look forward to our next visit.

Booked our table for two, asked for a window seat and were shown to exactly where we like to be. First class service and excellent food. Our Sunday roasts were served piping hot and look very appetising. The roast beef was very tender, the Yorkshire as light as air and the roast potatoes devine. My only slight disappointment is that the vegetables were a little unimaginative - carrots, sugar snap peas and frozen peas. To my mind these are "everyday" vegetables and not the usual offering once has come to expect of the Brookfield - where was the sprouts, swede, cabbage, parsnips and, best of all, cauliflower cheese? Everything was beautifully cooked and presented so this was my one let-down. We had both enjoyed a started so didn't think there was room for pudding ... until we saw the desert menu and we changed our minds to cram one in. I chose the treacle tart and ice cream - just the right amount of sweetness without being sickly. All in all a most pleasant Sunday lunch.

Visited for Sunday lunch last weekend with friends. Were booked for 12 noon and received a telephone call at 9.05 (disturbing a rare lie-in) asking if the table was for 3 or 5 as the person couldn't read his colleagues writing! We discovered our party of five were to be in the Lumley Room and not the Hermitage Restaurant. Oh dear - I do not like this room as it seems each time we've eaten in there the service has left a lot to be desired and there is little atmosphere. Upon arrival I discovered we were seated at a window table that had sun streaming onto the white table cloth. A no-no for me (yes, picky I know but it gives me a migraine to look at it) but there were blinds at the windows which helped hugely and for once, due to a large party occupying the Hermitage Restaurant therefore making the Lumley room busier, it was a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Our waiter was most obliging and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was at a very good pace - not too slow - we were all hungry. After various starters the five of us chose the Roast Topside of Beef. It was delicious and I can't fault any of it. A big Yorkshire pudding with roast potatoes, a medley of vegetables and gravy. Wasn't sure there was quite enough gravy and our waiter was happy to provide another jug of it for us. He was attentive and pleasant. Puddings followed and I chose the blueberry and ginger cheesecake. It wasn't served with cream or ice cream but again, upon asking, our waiter was very happy to provide the ice cream I had requested. We had tea and coffee to follow and we all found it a very enjoyable afternoon.

I was really looking forward to our visit with all the good reviews. We arrived on time for our booking and went to the bar as requested at reception. A drinks order was taken and we were asked to sit in the lounge or outside and a menu would be brought to us. We had finished our drinks by the time the menus arrived. The order was taken not long after by a waiter who told me that there was a change to the menu. He told me that the Chicken Liver Parfait (that I was ordering) had been replaced by a Ham Hock Terrine but that was a small difference. Really! He did not seem to understand that a chicken liver parfait is completely different to a ham hock terrine (internal organ of one animal v meat of a completely different animal) but he seemed to think that it was only the container for the terrine that made the difference. I think this member of staff needs training especially as my husband ordered the Cod Loin for main he wrote that he had ordered Pork on his ticket as we found out later. Then we waited further. It was 45 mins from arriving before we were seated. The staff was very nice and helpful and starters were served quickly but I would hope so as Cheddar Rarebit is hardly a complicated dish.

Five of us met for Sunday lunch in The Hermitage Restaurant last week. Our table, as I'd requested, was readily laid up in a window bay. Staff were most pleasant and attentive. The food was piping hot and delicious. I ordered the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding which was melt-in-the-mouth. Nicely cooked and presented with an ample portion of vegetables comprising roast potatoes, red cabbage, carrots and mange tout. We all enjoyed a dessert - my Eton Mess was fabulous (though perhaps a little less cream and a tad more meringue would be better for my taste) and one other member of our party asked if she could have the same dessert made with ice cream instead of fresh cream. This was readily provided with no quibble. We enjoyed a relaxed hour or so in the lounge area afterwards for tea and coffee. All in all a very enjoyable and pleasant Sunday afternoon. I look forward to our return visit.

This was another meeting of our lunch club with the venue chosen by one of the members.Finding the place was easy and there was plenty of parking. The welcome was good and all thirteen of us sat at one table. The menu offered a good choice of dishes and you could have a two course or three course meal. I normally go for a main course and a dessert but I have found from experience that if you do that at this lunch club you will not get any food for at least half an hour - longer if there is a slow eater in the group. For that reason I chose three courses and resolved not to have anything else to eat for the rest of the day.My starter and main course were very good. The trifle I had for dessert was less so - Marks and Spencer do a better one. At the end of the meal you just went up to the desk and told them how many courses you (and your partner, if applicable) had had and paid. It was a very satisfactory arrangement all round as we had ordered and paid for our drinks from the bar beforehandAs an aside, on the table were vouchers for a two-for-one cream tea. We took our two and went for this last week with two friends. There was more than we could eat, so much so that they loaded two "doggy bags" with spare scones and cakes when we left. I'll certainly look out for that offer again.Highly recommended.

Staff at the Hermitage Restaurant were trying very hard to give the impression of a top-class venue; it didn't quite work. The description of my starter suggested that the accompanying toast would be fresh but it was rock hard and was so cold, it could have just been taken out of a chiller. The head waiter (?) was heard to instruct a colleague (who was idly staring into space) to see if everything was alright on table 15 (mine). I opted for the cheeseboard without goat’s cheese instead of dessert. When I questioned why goat’s cheese had been presented, after some coughing and spluttering I was told it was for another table; and when I requested additional biscuits for the cheese (as the 5 small biscuits supplied were insufficient), this was answered with incredulity.

The dinner was well cooked , and by dessert time I was relatively full and decided to try the rhubarb concoctions. It sounded lovely, but I actually don't like rhubarb, so I was torn, could the chef have made something wonderful out of it.... Turns out he/she did make the most amazing rhubarb sorbet , along with the rest of the dessert. We had the same waitress for all three meals , and she was very friendly .

This is a very good restaurant especially considering that it is part of a hotel, and so has to deal with a wide range of dinning demands from both hotel guests and non guests. There is free and available parking on site which is always a bonus. We had a three course meal with coffee over a 2 hour period in the restaurant that overlooks the garden at the side and back of the hotel so we would have had a great view if the weather hadn't been so bad! The service was quick, friendly and efficient in taking our drinks and order. The drinks arrived first, and shortly afterwards tasty bread and olives, and then the staters. For the mains we had the cod, beef and scallops - all of which cooked to perfection and we enjoyed throughly. All the dishes came with sufficient vegetables for us, and were not too large so that we could enjoy a desert. The Merlot was good. I had the lemon posset which was lovely to finish. The coffee came in a cafetiere which meant that we could control the strength which was good and we easily got 6 cups out of it. Overall, as usual, a first class meal and a recommended venue if you are looking for somewhere a little upmarket without being too formal.

I accompanied my husband to a political party breakfast following the local elections. We were the first to arrive and Amanda quickly brought us a glass of Bucks Fizz with a Danish pastry making us feel very welcome. The atmosphere and ambience of The Brookfield is always pleasant. Our group consisted approximately 30 guests. Fresh fruit salad and cereals were available for us to help ourselves.. Two waitresses delivered plates of toast with pots of coffee or tea and when I asked for decaffeinated tea, this was no problem and was brought quickly. Previously the breakfasts have been "buffet" style with servers on duty to help speed up the process but today, alas, it was brought ready-plated. By 9.50am not only was our table the last to be served (I realise one has to be) but I was the very last person to get their breakfast - what happened to ladies first I wonder ... certainly not on our table. Perhaps the waitress needs a little more training in this direction. To add insult to injury I had no mushroom on my plate and the poached egg (no option given despite others having scrambled egg) was so hard it resembled a rubber ball. I felt so disappointed but having waited so long and feeling hungry I just wanted to eat. We have always held The Brookfield and Hermitage Restaurant in high regard but just lately our experiences have been getting worse and worse which is a huge disappointment as it's such a lovely venue and staff are pleasant. My desire to return is waning. Based on this and recent experiences I feel it unlikely I will visit again.

Slow service with very poor quality food. Having booked well ahead we were kept waiting for our table to be ready. Food still took ages to be served. When it finally arrived it was bland and poor quality. I'm pretty certain that my mash was actually 'smash'. Will not be going back

We dropped in on the off-chance a table would be available. As has often been the case the main Hermitage Restaurant was being used for something else and we were offered a table in the Lumley Room. We were presented with the menu and I was rather amused to see "Pan fried breast with sauté potatoes" ... breast of what was anyone's guess but the manager was very quick to say he would rectify this immediately and it was breast of chicken. We both ordered the cream of vegetable soup having had it previously and found it delicious - I'm not particularly a soup fan but I remember it was remarkably good the last time and couldn't wait to give it another go. My husband ordered pork loin steak and I opted for the chicken. However when the soup arrived it had the texture of pureed vegetables and was somewhat bland to the taste. The "cream" element was 3 or 4 dots of cream on the top. How disappointing was this?? I'm afraid, unusually for me, I couldn't attempt more than three small spoonfuls and had to send it back. I appreciate all chefs work differently but quite how that could be classed as "CREAM of Vegetable Soup" is a huge stretch of the imagination. However, as a regular vegetable soup my husband enjoyed it. When the mains arrived it appeared our potatoes were identical though one main was listed as being accompanied by roasted new potatoes whilst the other was to be served with sauté potatoes. I started to wonder if the chef who cooked today was the same one who wrote the menu in the beginning or if he had actually read it! The food itself was hot and nicely presented. I had specifically asked for absolutely no black pepper to be added to my meal and was very relieved and pleased that my request had been granted - this was appreciated. We had also placed a side order of vegetables and these arrived in a big dish and was more than adequate - sugar snap peas, swede and carrots. My husband chose a selection of sorbet for dessert which he enjoyed and I had the Bailey's cheesecake which was listed as being served with whipped cream and fruit coulis. The whipped cream was (again) three small "dots" of cream presented with a raspberry sitting on one dot and a half a fascalis (sour tasting fruit) on the other two ... but where was the coulis?? I enquired of the waiter who agreed it should have been there! He went off and brought me back a jug of blueberry coulis. This was pleasant enough but was it the correct thing to be served with Bailey's cheesecake? In honesty I'm not entirely sure - it was different I guess. Today the service was good and the manager took the cost of my soup off the bill and was apologetic that it was not what I had expected. As always the staff were most courteous. My suggestion from this visit is "please ensure your staff read the menu" before the customers.

Looking at all the good reviews here I find it difficult to believe we were in the same place. We booked for Sunday lunch and walked in to a slightly cold looking and feeling room, where our table neighbours in the window were already asking to be moved because of a cold draught. Another small point - it also helps if you like a lot of Edith Piaf music !To start we were offered some nice bread and ordered vegetable soup and potted smoked mackerel. The soup was ok but average and the mackerel looked as though it had just been crushed with a fork, covered in rock hard thick cold butter and came with one small piece of toast. For mains we ordered sirloin steak and beefburger. The steak was well cooked and tasty but came only with chips and without garnish. We then had to order vegetables to compensate and ended up with a huge bowl of uninteresting veg. -too many for 1. The beefburger was inedible and returned. The chef agreed it was inedible but then we had to wait 20 minutes for a replacement, by which time the rest of the food had gone cold and my wife had already finished her meal.We decided not to invest our time and money by having puddings and asked for the bill excluding the beefburger. A plus side here. Situations like this are a very good test of waiting staff and throughout they were nothing but understanding and polite. They did their very best to rectify a bad situation but to no avail. We suspect that the kitchen may have been put under pressure by the various private functions that day. It does seem that these get priority over individual bookings. Will we return ? Given this experience I would say it is unlikely. There are so many other good eating places for couples/small groups in the area, without the possible hindrance of wedding / birthday parties getting in the way

We have eaten at the Brookfield several times recently - for both lunch and evening meal. The ambience is relaxed and the service is generally excellent. The food has always been of a high standard - with one exception. On our last visit the roast potatoes that we were served were raw in the centre. They were, of course, immediately replaced when we drew attention to that. It looks as though meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, so anyone can make a mistake - otherwise this would have been a 5* rating.Good for a casual meal or a more formal occasion, the Brookfield can cope with everything from a small intimate table to large parties and even mass catering; from weddings to funerals as well!

Two days before Christmas we decided to treat ourselves to an evening meal before the onslaught of the festivities. The restaurant was quiet and therefore ample staff on hand. We both ordered the Christmas roast turkey and all the trimmings. An adequate amount of white turkey with stuffing and pig in blanket. Three roast potatoes which looked delicious. The vegetables came separately - a good medley of green beans, carrots and sprouts. However, the whole meal was dredged with black pepper - the taste was overwhelming and left my mouth "on fire". Sadly this totally masked the flavour of the food. When asked by our waiter if everything was alright I remarked there was far too much pepper. He asked if I would like more gravy to take the flavour away!! Not sure how that works but I'd almost eaten the meal by this time. We decided to have a dessert but he seemed to forget we had asked to see the menu until, sometime later, we reminded him. The tangy lemon pot was delicious and was served in a dark chocolate cup with two shortbread biscuits. Being rather a rich desert I found it would have been better to have one more biscuit and the waiter kindly brought me a further two! All in all a most enjoyable, relaxed evening and good food.

The menu is not huge but the food is cooked from scratch to a high quality. The presentation is good and the service fantastic. There are a variety of breads and although there are probably only about ten items for each section of the menu each is sophisticated and well cooked.Good value for what you receive.

The Hermitage Restaurant is an excellent choice for a special meal out. The lunch choice wasn't enormous but we all found something that we wanted - salmon was delicious, pan-fried turkey perhaps a bit too 'fried' but very tasty nonetheless. Nothing special about the vegetables (which you have to order as a side-dish). Desserts were all delicious. The restaurant surroundings are very pleasant; we looked out on the the hotel's beautiful garden and had plenty of space and privacy. A slightly over-bearing waiter making jokes about how to mention him in any review we wrote, which we didn't really need, but otherwise a very good meal out.

Had lunch here today with my Dad, my Daughter and my Grandson, a lovely dining room with plenty of space between. Our table had been laid complete with the requested high chair.the menu choices small but varied, catering for all tastes, although a child's menu is not available, the chef put together a tasty meatball, tomato sauce and rice dish all beautifully presented. The adults had between the pork and plaice, both of which were very tasty and again well presented. The staff were very attentive and even asked if my grandson would like his dish of custard cold or slightly warm! (Warm -obviously!) a gem in a beautiful location. Will be back!

We stopped at The Hermitage Restaurant on the off chance they could accommodate us (a table for two). Without any problem we were seated straight away and our order taken. The restaurant was busy but comfortably so for a Sunday. Our lunch was delightful. The starter my husband chose was soup and this was piping hot. The Sunday roast beef was very well cooked and well presented. It was delicious. Only slight blip were the roast potatoes were slightly too hard/crispy and we could have done with a little more gravy - perhaps a small gravy boat would be a good idea. Sherry trifle for desert - this was fabulous other than the popping candy which didn't, for us, do anything to enhance it ... but we still sent back empty dishes! Will be returning, hopefully, very soon.

attended a group meal, food was mediocre. A little chilly, bland. It may be that the restaurant food is much better, but even with a large group - the food should not necessarily be of a lower standard. However, if I eat in the restaurant maybe I will change my mind, but I wont rush back. Not truly complaining just slightly disappointing. I really cant rate overcooked vegetables. Sorry

We used this restaurant a couple of times during our short stay and it was very nice both times. On the Sunday lunch time we arrived the place was rammed and the smell was very good and one or two meals I saw in the bar area looked very nice. In the bar we spoke to a couple of people who were regulars, which I always feel is a good sign. On the main bus route and has a large car park. Reasonable menu choices with great tasting starters and mains but the desserts were not of the same standard. If they can get these as good it will be even more worth a visit.

The lunch menu was as far as we got.It is not designed to appeal to a foodie, very little of interest - I suggest that it caters for a mature clientele, fairly standard offerings; soup, salad, pate ish starters. chicken, fish, pasta mains.Just all a bit dull sounding, which is a shame. We have had family events there in the past and they don't have much competition for similar venues but they are missing a trick on lunches; needs passion and flair to attract us, then we'd return.Instead it felt like a slow hotel, with a dull menu and not much business on this occasion.

We hired a private function room for my 60th Birthday and from beginning to end we were extremely well looked after. Jamie dealt with my son to sort out all the arrangements and nothing was too much trouble - from altering the menu slightly to typing out the table plan. On the day itself the food was delicious. The menu included 4 choices for each course and there was a good range including fish and vegetarian options. The service was very unobtrusive and we were given total privacy for the speeches and toasts. Everything ran very smoothly and I cant recommend the experience highly enough. We shall certainly return to experience The Hermitage Restaurant.

I booked a table of five for New Year's Eve ,we thought we would treat ourselves rather than do the hard work ! The online brochure sounded great 5 courses, cabaret with Vince Hill . So I phoned and asked a few questions regarding vegetarian options and also was it the Vince Hill rather than a tribute, they were very helpful yes they could give me meat free options and yes it was the Vince Hill. So I paid the requested £200 deposit looking forward to a great New Year's celebration! The evening was not as promised ,the food on some courses was good on some ok and some inedible ,we forgave this ,it's not always easy catering at these functions however the cabaret was NOT forgivable! A chap started singing (not very well ) I presumed he was a support act , no this was VINCE HALL ! We were not happy the staff insisted it was a typo on the web site but then why was I lied to on the phone? I went to check the website early the next day New Years Eve page unavailable ! Coincidence ?

We celebrated Christmas yesterday at The Brookfield Hotel in of their private function rooms. The Hermitage Restaurant catered for 24 of us and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could possibly need to make our Christmas special. Wonderful choice of starters including Butternut and roast chestnut soup, smoked salmon to name a few. We had a HUGE turkey and joint of beef delivered to the room where the chefs stayed to carve for us. The meat was delicious, the turkey especially moist. Plenty of vegetables, potatoes and gravy all delicious. Staff were very attentive and polite. Would not hesitate to recommend this gem of a hotel and their team to anybody.

The restaurant is in the hotel and has a small bar attached where we ordered our meal while waiting for our table. We did not have long to wait even with several work groups also enjoying their pre-Christmas celebrations. We (two of us) had a vegetarian meal. We both chose the mushroom risotto starter which was light. I followed with tagliatelle with goats cheese and my wife had a pumpkin and sweet potato stew, which were both tasty and very substantial plates (it was a very chilly evening so something warming was good). We finished with an apple parfait and a pear cobbler. The staff are friendly and efficient. Although the restaurant does not have the same ambience as an old coaching inn or pub, the food is a better standard than many pubs in the area.

Came here for a business dinner and had the private room in the conservatory. Lovely starters of king prawns and mains of duck. There was a noticeable tinge of vinegar in the cooking with the duck and sea bream, perhaps a little overpowering. Lamb was succulent and beautifully cooked. Attentive service and lovely ambience.

This venue used to be the grand family gathering point nearly 20 years ago, for those 70th birthday events it had to be "sunday lunch at the Brookfield" personally hadn't eaten there for 10 years so was intrigued when invited to an Sunday lunch event.Twas a set menu, and the choices hinted at retro...I chose the melon over the veg soup, the roast beef dinner and the cheese and biscuits.....For £20 this I expected to be quality. The melon was indeed melon, sliced rather then spherical with an smear of raspberry coulis. Small but ok.The roast beef dinner. was a roast beef dinner, there were roast potatoes were not as roasty, the veg a little over cooked and the beef ok but rather chewy. The cheese was generous with a blue, a brie and a cheddar, grapes, a chutney and plenty of biscuits. So all in all in all, it was an ok dinner all round, nothing was bad but nothing was great or remarkeable either, and for me if you are asking£20 a head for Sunday dinner it should be really great, like memorable great.I am sure for the older clientele who "don't like that foreign messed up food like pasta" this will still hold a charm, but it hasn't changed in the 10 years since I ate there last so worry it wont be there 10 years from now.....which is sad.To finish on an positive, the staff were lovely, there seemed to be plenty of them and all I spoke to were excellent.

The only good thing about the hotel is it's well decorated and has a lovely garden to enjoy the sun. We had room 3 horrible to say the least, bathroom obly had a light above the mirror so when in the shower it was so dark I was afraid to shave my legs in case I cut a main artery. We had the kitchen vent right outside the window so couldn't have window open at night which ment room so hot!! Bed awful neither me or my partner slept any of that night and I had back ache all the next day. Glad we only paid £69 instead of the normal £99. Bar very expensive nearly £5 for a larger menu is listed as posh nosh but even I didn't like the sound of it all. All in all it was a bad choice of mine for a romantic night away :(

Went there for a Christmas meal. There were very few diners and given the price tag approaching £30 a head it wasn't difficult to see why. Frustratingly the same menu appeared to be available for less at a lunch time. The food was okay, but wasn't worth the price tag. The lack of diners also made the atmosphere flat.

Love this hotel. Best food I have had while staying away on business. Too often hotel chains serve up bland food knowing they have a captive audience. Not this hotel, even the most basic meal is perfect. I have gone from burger and chips at the bar to a mixed grill in the main dining room and each were perfect. Excellent service by brilliant staff. Breakfast is properly cooked without the need to mass produce under hot lamps. The poached eggs are fantastic. Sky TV in the rooms and a friendly check in. The best hotel by far in the Havant area.

This may have once been a good restaurant but it no longer is. The food was at best average and at worst inedible. Whilst the food was cooked reasonably well (gastro pub standard) the seasoning made three of our four dishes inedible. A tip for the chef: if you can taste salt, you’ve over-seasoned. If your mouth dries from the salt, you’ve failed entirely. For the cost of the meal, it is reasonable to expect a chef who can cook - seasoning and all - to a very high standard. This failed to reach that bar at any time. I’ve paid much, much less and eaten far, far better many times before. Avoid.
