We stayed at The Woodman for one night on our way to Northumberland and two nights on the way back. The accomodation was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything for a good night's rest. The breakfasts were great, freshly cooked for each guest. The evening meals, including a Sunday roast were delicious and the menu has a great choice of meals. The staff at The Woodman are welcoming, friendly and cannot do enough for you. We will visit again.

Stayed here for 3 nights B&B with my partner (Val). A perfect location for exploring nearby places such as Bedale, Leyburn, Richmond, Northallerton, Thirsk and Ripon, which we did easily as the old A1 (now A6055) gets you everywhere quickly. We had a superior double which was a big room, clean and tidy. The welcome is good as are all of the staff who work there. Good selection of draught beers and lagers, good breakfast and the restaurant has a good selection of choice. A dog and child friendly place to visit and/or stay at. Quiet location despite the A1M being close but you don't even hear it. Ample car parking at the back. Highly recommended.

WE STAYED HERE FOR 2 NIGHTS 26 AND 27TH JULY FOR OUR SONS WEDDING NEARBY. COULDNT GET A SHOWER ON THE MORNING OF THE WEDDING AS NO HOT WATER . THE LANDLORD CAME AND SAID IT WAS BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS IN THE SHOWERS AT THE SAME TIME - THATS WHAT YOU GET IN THE DALES ! ( NEVER HAPPENED TO US BEFORE IN THE DALES ) . I TOLD HIM I EXPECTED A HOT SHOWER ON THE MORNING OF MY SONS WEDDING BUT SHRUGGED . ONE PACK OF BISCUITS FOR 2 OF US , WAS TOLD THE EXACT TIME TO COME FOR BREAKFAST -9-15 ( NOT ANY EARLIER . SERVINGS WERE MISERLY , TERRIBLE CHOICE AND LIMITED MILK FOR CEREALS . WOULD NEVER EVER GO AGAIN

had a lovely meal here with friends I had steak friends had scampi and chips, and one had pie all were very happy. Only prob was as friends were staying there they were asked just having finished big meal what they wanted for breakfast!!!!! Then when some asked for full english they were very disappointed as a lot of things were not included i.e. black pudding, hash browns etc

We were staying at a local campsite (in the horrible driving rain!) and so decided we would find somewhere for tea. The Woodman did not disappoint. There was 7 of us and 2 dogs and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. Staff are amazing and the food was the best we’ve eaten in agggeees! The steak and ale pie was FIT! Easily the nicest I’ve ever had. My Spinone shared it and she thought the same ha! I wish we had somewhere like this closer to home. Amazing comfort food and a lovely atmosphere. Ate here today, with my dog - she was made very welcome with treats the minute we are arrived! Had fish and chips, absolutely delicious, the best home cooked chips I've had in a while! Couldn't fault a thing. Great service too, deffo going back, wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place

I travel a lot for business so have stayed in a number of places, however this is now by far my favourite, I stayed in the forest room which was like staying in a studio flat Very clean, spacious and quiet In addition the food was fantastic, great portion sizes . Chef came out to check all was ok, which was a great personal touch! Will defo be back !!!

Stayed for 1 night in the rear carpark in our motorhome. Nice Quiet and secure location. Went into the pub to eat, Great food and a folk group singalong on a wednesday. Fantastic friendly staff, Top Chef... Highly Recommend as a stop over if using A1. Will be back

We met with family in the area and made a point of visiting again for Sunday lunch. We visited last year when we were in the area. Ten of us in total. Fantastic service, incredible food. Staff are great and full of fun! Sunday roast and all other options were exceptional. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again. For the staff… YES.. Custard does go with fudge cake!

I was having food here for mothers day and it was very good but when getting drinks I saw a vape behind the counter and then a young man using it later that day!

The best service started when booking, so friendly and this continued once we had arrived until the end of our stay… Fab rooms spacious, comfortable very clean. Dinner at night was really good and a lovely breakfast the following morning… Would go back to Beadle just to stay here.. A great find….

Excellent! What a warm welcome awaits you at The Woodman Inn, friendly, informative and patient staff. The food was awesome and you get a good sized portion definitely home made and a lovely choice of classic pub grub dishes with a few interesting twists to incorporate local specialties 😊

Stayed for one night to break journey from Scotland to Lincolnshire. The rooms were clean and cosy for an overnight stay. We ate dinner and breakfast in the dinning room which offered good pub food. The Inn is in a great location close to the A1 near Leeming Bar but without the road noise

We chose to stay here for our visit to surrounding area after reading reviews and photos of accommodation. The pub is very warm and traditional. Our room was just as photos spotlessly clean with comfy bed and anything we needed. We had breakfast each morning which was continental and or cooked breakfast. Cooked breakfast was exceptional with lovely sausages and served nice and hot. ( ideally book your cooked breakfast night before) that way its ready freshly cooked for you and helps reduce wastage. Would recommend for lovely place to stay. They seem to have regular customers in bar and returning happy staying guests.

Stopped off for a coffee, The inn seemed welcoming. Would like to dine here. Cappuccino did not match the ambiance!

Staying at the local campsite, the pub was advertised on the notice board and only 5 min walk away so thought worth a try and glad we did. Excellent food, welcoming staff and lovely atmosphere. We had curry from the specials board and lasagne, both homemade and served with chunky chips, the portions were huge!! Definitely be back if ever in the area again.

We stayed at the woodman for one night. We had a chilled afternoon in the bar and lovely evening meal. Our room was modern and had everything you need for a comfortable night.My only negative was that there wasn't a hairdryer in our room as advertised. Cooked breakfast was plentiful and tasty too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Would recommend and definitely stay again if in the area.

We stayed one night here for my husbands birthday. What a lovely quiet place it was. The room was larger than anticipated and had the benefit of your car right outside (it was raining heavily when we arrived). We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing. Good choice of local produce and so good. Cannot pick fault anywhere. It was a great stay and we would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks!

Great meal tonight. Friendly welcome on arrival, good atmosphere, great menu choices plus specials board. Service was excellent, food was delicious and hot! For mid week it was well populated. And they do allow dogs which is useful to know for our next visit. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

Our 6th stay at The Woodman. It was my 75th birthday treat from my family. The Woodman never disappoints. The owners are brilliant. Great accommodation and the food is spot on every time. Can't wait to go back. Thanks Pete ,Ted and David

Excellent accommodation, our room was spotless and extremely comfortable. We dined in the restaurant, excellent choice of home cooked food. All cooked to perfection using quality ingredients. Breakfast the following morning was equally as good. The staff are welcoming, and the most friendly people you can meet. Would highly recommend and a it’s a perfect location close to the A1.

A simple review….home cooked honest food, meat that dissolves in the mouth, triple cooked dark brown chips, ginger sponge and custard! What is there not to like??

A lovely pub. Outside chalets , newly decorated to a high standard. We had a lovely meal 3 had fish & chips I had the chicken in Wensleydale sauce. It was gorgeous , hot & large portions. We shared puddings. 2 hot chocolate fudge cake & a ginger sponge & Custard. Homemade. The chef is amazing. We has a great night's sleep in a comfortable large bed. It was very quiet. Breakfast was lovely. We would definitely go again

We went here when staying in the Pheasant Hill site in the Motorhome. We visited 3 times & each time the food & service was absolutely excellent we will definitely return Thanks all concerned

We had a very enjoyable three day stay here. The inn was really comfortable and had a warm welcoming atmosphere. Our room was very spacious and well equipped and we enjoyed our meals. It is very conveniently located for exploring the Bedale and Ripon areas.

Delicious home cooked Sunday roast . Chef produced a vegetarian option that was not on the menu. Best Yorkshire puddings ever! Decent wine list and local ales. Very reasonable price too. Friendly efficient service. Highly recommended.

Thank you to the fantastic team but especially Simone for a lovely stay! We really appreciate you accommodating our motorhome for the night. We didn’t use the electricity hook up or fresh water top up but there are great facilities to offer! And the free parking is such a great attraction too. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner and breakfast and Dexter loved his sausage too!!! Everybody we met (chef, owner and bar staff) were so friendly, kind and welcoming. I will certainly make sure I recommend you to others fortunate enough to enjoy the beautiful N Yorkshire countryside.

We had a really enjoyable stay in our motorhome. We stayed mid-week having booked in advance. The proprietors could not have been more helpful. The food, service and drink were all excellent. They can provide EHU and water for 3 motorhomes in their car park- allocated pitches. The charge is £15 per night but this is deducted from food/drinks bill. We could not fault any part of our stay and will revisit soon.

This was our 2nd visit to the restaurant after discovering it during a holiday in West Tanfield in June. We booked a table as we had a 3 hour drive beforehand & both of us had the Roast Beef. Excellent value, good portions & reasonably priced. We will return whenever we are in the general vicinity.

Excellent stay. Located a mile off the A1 ideal for a stopover or even a longer break to explore the area. Good parking facilities with easy access. A warm welcome from the friendly and approachable hosts who seem to genuinely care about their clientele. Rooms first rate, very clean and comfortable with everything to make your stay first rate. Bar was well stocked with local ales, good selection of lagers and ciders. Evening meal and breakfast was faultless. All together a enjoyable stay. Recommended. We would definitely stay over again.

This place is an absolute gem!!! The room I had was massive but extremely clean and warm. The evening meal was superb garlic prawns pi pi amazing and hot the main course chicken cooked with Wensleydale and ham was unbelievable never tasted anything like it and lovely and hot. Breakfast matched the evening meal. Will definitely be back very soon

Stayed one night with my son. The village is lovely and peaceful. Our room was so comfortable, cosy and clean. Nicola, Pete and Ted were fantastic hosts - you can see how much this means to them. Food gorgeous and Nell, my border collie, was made very welcome too. Oh, and the cider on tap is delicious! There’s a handy little dog walk through the fields too. We will definitely be back.

Wow what a warm welcome all the staff are so friendly we rock up in our camper van had designated stop to park, little tight but it’s only for one night, from the minute we arrived to leaving the ream were fabulous and so friendly, the beers is good and the food is proper home cooked no pre warmed up food well done team woodman

We stayed overnight with our friends, both in Motorhomes, I had precooked and the car park was cordoned off for us. It was nice to sit outside in the beer garden enjoying a pint and watching the RAF practising. WIFI is good both inside and out. We had a table for 4 reserved for 1830, the owners were very helpful and all the staff were very customer focused. The food was pub grub of the highest order, well cooked, presented, piping hot and delicious. We did a nice walk in the morning before leaving, overall an establishment worthy of an excellent.

We stayed overnight in the carpark in our motorhome,when we arrived the landlord came out to help us back into our space which was a lovely gesture and that set the standard for our stay. The food was reasonably priced and very good, I can highly recommend the fish pie. The staff were really friendly and we will definitely be coming back.

We got a recommendation for The Woodman Inn and booked for ourselves daughter and son in law and our granddaughter aged 3. Our granddaughter had fallen asleep in the car and was less than impressed on arrival. The staff were fantastic. They were so relaxed and welcoming. When our granddaughter decided the menu was not what she wanted they immediately offered to make her what she would like ... everything was made fresh. Cheesy pasta was provided ... proper cheese sauce not just grated cheese and she ate every scrap. The adult food was absolutely delicious too as was the beer and the gin. Excellent evening for all of us.

Stopped last night in our motorhome in the car park. Free if you have a meal. Wonderful owners and staff. I went for the steak and ale pie and Marie had the hunters chicken. Absolutely lovely meal. Would definitely recommend this little gem if travelling up the A1 and need a little stopover.

We have just returned from a 3 day break at the Woodman Inn. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with their exceptionaly clean rooms and amazing beakfasts plus evening meals. Nothing is too much trouble for this team of helpful staff.We can only recommend that you give them a try ...you will not regret it.They even have a couple of hook ups in their carpark for those eating there that night. Book early to avoid disappointment.

This is the first review we have left on here in a long time,but we felt we had to. We are here now and parked up in the car park,staying the night in a motorhome. The food and hospitality we have received has been out of this world. I had a 20oz(yes 20!!!) rump steak and the wife had some local dish called Chicken Parmo. Both dishes were huge and the rump was possibly the most tender I’ve had,I really didn’t expect it to be that good! The couple who run the pub have only had it since March but you would think they’ve been in the pub game for years,they couldn’t do enough for us. They also have accommodation on site,I’m a quiet little village. They have a great selection of ales and the pub is spotlessly clean! Good luck to you both,you really deserve it………and thank you from us!!!!

Having found the venue on trip advisor we were not disappointedA very laid-back venue, accommodating the children and allowing some menu flex to create a great Sunday lunch experience for all.Staff very polite and attentive and great food to top it off. Should I mention the puddings - the only improvement possible would be if you could have all of them to save the decision :)

First visit and certainly won't be the last. We found the woodman's via britstops and emailed ahead to book one of the 4 motorhome spaces available.£15 with Ehu which is refunded of food bill if you eat in the restaurant. And I can recommend you do. The food and service were second to none.It is the perfect first night for our holiday touring the UK

We had booked for bed and breakfast and later added an evening meal. The room was beautifully furnished and was spacious, spotlessly clean with a super comfy bed and had some lovely little extras such as biscuits and spring water. Both the evening meal and the breakfast were absolutely delicious, generous proportions and really good quality food. The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient. An excellent overnight stop on a journey further north, unbeatable value for money and would highly recommend.

Owner was rude and had terrible attitude towards me and my boyfriend. Food was overly priced and slow service.

Have just returned after a one night stay at the Woodman Inn and feel very relaxed. We were greeted with a warm welcome from the minute we arrived and throughout our stay the hospitality was superb. Our room was large and spotlessly clean with a comfy bed. Evening meal and breakfast were freshly cooked and tasty. Good quality wine at great value for money. Would definitely stay again !

Due to Lockdown this was my first stay for over a year, and to find the establishment had changed hands, not to worry the high standards of cleanliness and hospitality have remained the same. friendly and courteous staff on arrival, rooms spotlessly clean, and a good selection of beers and drinks in the bar area, food is wholesome and all at a good price, terrific to stay again and that it has been a seamless transition to new ownership, great place highly recommended.

Staying at nearby High Grange Holiday Cottages, we popped in for a quick pint during a cycle ride. We received a friendly welcome and a lovely pint of cider. We returned twice later in the week for evening meals. Delicious food (we had the steak and ale pie and the Wensleydale chicken), generous portions and all served piping hot. All staff were happy and helpful. Pub was very clean and tidy. Highly recommended!

Stayed one night 27th Dec initially booked through the pub for 2 nights but as we arrived we received a call from a family member and we informed the landlady we would unfortunately only be able to stay one night.The room was lovely and furnished to a high quality but it was an outside annex to the main building there was no heating on and we could not stay in the room even to unpack as it was so cold. We put the radiators on and went to try and find somewhere warm to sit. We entered the main public bar area and asked could we buy a drink as were intending to eat.We were the only couple staying and the only couple booked in for a meal. I can honestly say the landlord and landlady did not stop moaning for over 30 mins. We felt very uncomfortable and could not escape their chatter. I appreciate they were very frustrated as to the COVID restrictions but felt they were unprofessional moaning to us. We ordered home made pie chips and veg for £14.95 restaurant prices for pub food. The food came quickly but all the vegetables were cold!!!!! The cook was only catering for two people and he still got it wrong. We asked for it to be reheated when it came back it was hot but nothing special. Breakfast was mediocre. The landlady printed our bill out the night before and upon opening the envelope she had charged us for 2 nights even though we told her we could only stay one. The cook who presented us with the bill telephoned her as we refused to pay for 2 nights. She argued back and forward with us and when my husband adamantly would not pay the full bill she then agreed we could only pay for one night and then had the nerve to try and charge us a higher fee than the Booking.com price!!!! We of course refused. Settled our bill in cash and left.The experience has left a very bad taste in our mouths.

Ate out as a family at the Woodman, food prices are hiked up but I suppose this is because of the 'eat out to help out' but feel this was taking advantage of the government's scheme. Hubby ordered daily special cajun salmon which he enjoyed but expensive for what it was. I ordered steak and ale pie (£15) which was a slice of pie which had been reheated and was as dry as the Sahara desert... very disappointing, needed jugs of gravy to make it edible!! On a plus side their covid measures are good, paper menus and tablecloths and one way system in place.

We came to eat here on the first night back when pubs opened, we were not sure how it would be with Covid but it was all very organised and we felt safe to go have a meal. we had 2 courses and the food was great, service was also good, in particular the waitresses that served us were very good. Great choice on the menu and also the specials board had some good stuff on also, will definitely be back

We spent 6 nights at the Woodman Inn and loved every minute. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The food at the inn from the very nice and plentiful breakfasts to the evening meals were all hot and very tasty. The staff were extremely pleasant and couldn't do enough to help. The covid rules they had in place made us feel very safe. Overall an excellent place to stay, eat and drink.

Lovely meal and service. Definitely recomended. food was very nice. I recommend booking if you want to go. But overall a great time
