Definitely the loveliest pub I have visited! Such a lovely welcome, food excellent, ambience excellent, very comfortable. The best ladies loos I have ever used, beautiful. A pity I live in the south, too far for frequent visits. Local customers very friendly, too. Thank you.

I visit quite a number of pubs, especially in the south but I don't think I have ever visited a better pub anywhere than The Woodman's Stroke. Everything was just great from the welcome, service, loos, beer and without doubt, the best Ploughman's lunch I have ever had.

One of my top 3 Midlands pubs! 2 bars run by Simon & T assisted by great staff. Lots of covered outdoor seating on paved areas and a huge beer garden. Great for families, kids & dog owners. The atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. You wont be disappointed!

Fabulous pub. Been here quite a few times over the past few months now. Always great service at the bar. Good selection of drinks and food (at lunchtime on weekdays). Had the Woodies ploughman’s this time and it was very tasty and filling. The Stilton is wonderful here. With a little light rain it was nice to still sit outside under the huge umbrellas in the courtyard. There are 2 marquees as well in the huge beer garden by the river. A wonderful place to chill.

Walked here from a neighbouring village and decided to stop for a drink on this lovely sunny day. Nice quick service at what was quite a busy bar. Good selection of ciders. We sat outside in the large beer garden overlooking the river. It was most pleasant with lots of picnic tables and a large gazebo with settees in. Would definitely stop here again and maybe try their food when the kitchen is open.

Well I knew that if anyone was going to get it right it was going to be the Woodies. Had to book ahead, then on arrival greeted by lovely young lady (landlords daughter) who showed us to our table and took our contact details. Tables well spaced out, not allowed to go to the bar, table service only. Food was usual tasty menu served up by pleasant member of staff wearing a face mask. one way system which seemed clear and easy to follow. All in all we felt very safe and happy to be back, thanks to all at Woodies and a big welcome back! xx

If you pay over £5 for a toasted sandwich you're entitled to expect something more than 2 modest slices of hovis (or whatever sort of mass produced, thin sliced loaf was used) and a non-descript and rather greasy filling. It may have contained the brie, cranberry and caramelised onion claimed on the menu-but if you leave any toasted sandwich in the toaster for long enough, its contents end up reduced to fatty slurry. And if you're using ready sliced brown bread it rapidly reaches the state of cardboard if it's left too long in the toaster. Obvious points--but apparently not to the staff who were responsible for this disappointing stuff. A table spoon full of undressed lettuce didn't do a lot to divert my attention (or taste-buds) from the rest of this depressing offering

The Woodman’s Stroke popular free house, "The Woodies" is a quintessentially English village pub, within Rothley Conservation area, the pub dates from 1714. Much changed since the family took it over nearly 3 decades ago, now with open fires, a thatched roof and traditional interior of exposed ceiling joists and stone floors. Outside is a paved heated terrace and large garden rolling down to Rothley Brook. Apart from 3 regular beers it has ever changing guest beers, often as many as four different ones each week and a fine selection of wines. A ‘pub’ that does food weekday lunchtimes only. No music or machines, conversation is the main entertainment with major sporting events shown on TV

The Woodies is a fairly frequent place for colleagues from our work to meet for drinks, and the atmosphere is good - whilst a traditional village pub it is welcoming. Decent selection of ales and bottles. In good weather it is a lovely spot to sit outside, although the car park sure fill up quickly and the local streets tend to get a bit clogged up.

I ordered fish and chips. Forget crispy batter encasing firm white fillets of cod or haddock, think roadkill. A flat casement of soggy breadcrumbs containing a minute portion of what was supposedly plaice but which turned into wallpaper paste in the mouth. By their own admission, not home made but bought in frozen. Far and away the worst ever.

Visited the Woodman's Stroke, as is the correct name for the pub one lunchtime. Really impressed at the decor, it has been developed wonderfully over the years and now is a stylish old world pub with exceptions like the gas fire!!Sandwiches were really nice, I had prawn on quite brown bread; strangely the Marie Rose sauce came separately and therefore spooning the sauce into pliable bread and dry prawns was not easy but the flavours were very good. My lady friend said that the turkey sandwiches were the best she had tasted.Service was Ok and there were many folks who were obviously regulars having a lunchtime drink. There is a large carpark and a big outdoor eating area for the better weather.Highly recommended.

I came with friends for lunch, we all had toasted sandwiches. Sandwiches were served on a tea plate & presentation was poor, a tiny salad garnish, wouldnt be big enough to feed barbie!!. my friend ordered tuna but received brie & cranberry instead! This was promptly corrected though. Felt the £5 you pay was alot for what you got when compared to local competition.

We visited The Woodies on a Saturday evening and were impressed by this excellent village pub. The pub was very busy with locals and visitors and there was a great atmosphere. We were introduced to Simon and T-Bone who run this excellent pub and they were very warm and welcoming. The thatched pub has been developed over the years and retains a well maintained traditional atmosphere with wooden beams, old wooden and cast iron furniture and cosy rooms. The outside garden and patio areas were very popular. The owners are keen rugby supporters and sport fans and there is Leicester Tigers memorabilia on the walls and two TVs mainly showing sport. There is a very wide range of cask ales, lagers and beers on tap and two well-stocked bars. In summary, the staff are very friendly and efficient, the beer is good, there is a wide ranging loyal clientele and a warm vibrant atmosphere. This is the quintessential old village pub. Cosy areas inside, lovely floral patio and extensive gardens down to the brook. Tucked away in a quiet back street near the church its thatched roof and rustic interior are accompnied by very modern facilities. This charming village is an attraction in its own right but is on the edge of the Charnwood Forest Regional Park and only a few miles from the River Soar and Watermead Country Park. The business is a free house and family run and provides excellent wines and a great range of ever changing ales. It is very much a pub in the evenings and always popular. The staff are all very friendly and the primary occupation of the customers is conversation.Lunches are provided and if not an extensive range, what is offered is excellent. This is a very popular lunch stop for people visiting the area who know about it. Trade is always steady both over lunch and throughout the evening.(closed weekdays 3.00- 5.00, no food weekend)Well worth seeking out if anywhere near.I live 6 miles away but make a bee-line for it whenever anywhere nearby and have been doing so for 25 years

Well the food hasn't even arrived yet and the service has been rude, surly and unfriendly. The place is freezing and the staff refused to put the heater on and then told us after 10 minutes of waiting, it would be 15 minutes for veggie sausage. Very overpriced. The breakfast was OK but beans and tomatoes, and eggs were tepid to say the least. Bloody awful.

My most favourite little deli! Have been coming here for 11+ years and have never left disappointed. The food is fantastic and whenever I take people there (generally grabbing lunch with a colleague) they're always impressed with the quality of the food. Personal favourites are the brie and bacon baguette and THE WORLDS BEST lemon cheesecake (chefs kiss). Only slight criticisms would be the place gets so busy it can mean can't always eat in (shows how good the place is) and they're closed on a Monday which tends to be the day I work in the office so can't always nip in to the best deli in Leicestershire.

A fantastic night with friends enjoying the cocktail masterclass with Jerome a great bartender and entertainer. Jerome knows his stuff, easily explaining what to mix and how, with a little bit of science too. We gratefully accepted the cocktails he made so effortlessly and then had a go at making our own, Jerome’s teaching style made this fun and easy and overcame any of our nerves with encouragement and humour. Thanks for helping us have a great night out 5⭐️

As it was a sunny day, the place was busy although we found a table. Recently the menu has changed in my view for the worst. Prices have leapt with choice not as good as it used to be. Although our order arrived in decent time one or two people who came in after us left upon being informed there was a waiting time of over 30 mins for cooked food. We have been regulars here but with the menu change and big increase in prices will sadly look elsewhere.

After a walk at Bradgate Park we chose to stop in here for brunch. We checked the menu outside and were surprised to find that the prices inside had been inflated quite considerably. Did they forget to change the menu outside? I think probably not. After waiting for a table we then sat down on a dirty table to order, waited half an hour for our food, which then came out lukewarm at best and really quite underwhelming. £70 for 3 breakfasts, 3 drinks and pancakes is certainly steep I'd say, but when it is such poor quality I'm not sure how this place gets the reviews it does.
