Following the closure of pubs during the Coronavirus pandemic, The White Swan took up the challenge to provide take away meals. We have been meaning to go here for some time so ordered two Sunday lunches (Beef and Chicken). We picked them up at the appointed time (as I didn't know where to park I was a bit worried about the parking signs on the front of the car park but decided to risk a couple of minutes there anyway) . This was the first day that the Swan had provided this sort of meal, but there was no reason to worry. Plenty of food and lovely gravy, so we will probably be back for more quite soon ! The information about these takeaways is on Facebook, so if you want to give it a go, that's theplace to check. They are going to do similar meals during the week, along with frozen meals, which sound quite handy. Total cost for the two meals was £17-90.

Had a very warm welcome. Food was good but a bit too much. Did think it a bit pricey for a pub, which may be bourne out by the fact that it wasn't very busy despite being the only non curry place to eat out in the village. Don't get me wrong, the food was very good but just think they may have their pricing point wrong, if they want to compete with the eating establishments in Barrow and other surrounding villages.

Tasty food, as always. Spicy chicken goujons have to be your go to starter here (unless vegetarian/vegan obviously, but you’re well catered for too). The staff are great and the food is amazing. I feel like the interior could do with a bit of an update and lick of paint, but maybe it’s comforting to those who view at as their “local” that the decor is the same as it has been for years.

I've visited several times UK and in some different places and zones. I am Spanish, so my gastronomical standards are really high. Never in my life, after all my previous experiences travelling around UK, would I expect so fantastic cooking in this occasion. Maybe, you can think that I am exaggerating, but I truly assure you (I try to be the most sincere that I am able to be) you won't feel untrusting my review. The White Swan has the best cuisine I have ever tasted in all UK and Scotland. Don't miss the opportunity to visit and delight yourself with this truly and incredible pleasure.

A friend and I visited the Swan tonight for dinner. We were given a meal deal menu which we both picked from, £11.45 for scampi and salad was very steep! We decided to both have puddings, I asked the bar tender which desserts were included and they pointed at the black board menu. When it came to paying the bill I asked if the meal deal was included and an old lady (who probably cooked the food and I guess owner the pub) piped up and harshly said that one of the desserts was not included. I questioned it again, she quickly snapped at me and while I was not looking rolled her eyes and tutted (my friend saw this). Disgusting service and I am a local and won’t be visiting them again. Very expensive for standard pub food and shocking service.

Quite disappointed with lunch experience. Prawn cocktail made with raw tough Spinach leaves and strange tasting sauce, no lettuce, no tomato, no brown bread. All meals were served in bowls, very bizarre. Mashed potato no seasoning no butter. Beef stew more expensive than roast Lamb! Very little meat in beef cobbler, a lead weight of some type of scone on top. Very strange pricing strategy, SL one course £9.50, 2 courses £13.50, but most choices had a supplement charge, I could have gone to much better establishment with really good food, for the same money. Drinks were of poor quality, GandT 2 ice cubes, no lime or lemon, Coke tasted "old" Bar staff were more interested in eating the roast potatoes on the bar, rather than looking after customers. Unfortunately this is the only pub in the village that serves food, needs seriously updating.

Had an enjoyable time here with three friends on Tuesday evening. We were seated in a lovely restaurant area away from the bar, with some interesting-looking books on a shelf nearby. Service was friendly and efficient, and set-menu prices reasonable: £11.25 for one course, £15.25 for two, £19.25 for three. The most impressive thing was that there were actually two set menus - one being for vegetarians - with plenty of choice on each - and they are changed daily! While we were waiting for our main course to arrive, we were pleasantly surprised to be treated with complimentary oven-fresh bread rolls – very nice! My Beef, Ale and Mushroom Puff Pastry Pie - served with roast potatoes and vegetables - was absolutely delicious. My dessert - Strawberry Ice Cream with a Raspberry and Strawberry Sauce - was delightfully refreshing. My mates and I were well impressed.

We attended a function that evening in a separate bar area, the bar service and the buffet were excellent. The following morning we were spoilt for choice for breakfast. We were not rushed out of our room which was a plus. Theresa the owner is so very nice, friendly, with a great sense on humour and nothing was too much trouble! The White Swan looks quite daunting and fundamental from the exterior but.....as soon as you walk through the front door you are greeted with a warm atmosphere and quaint curios and decor. Although I live locally I rarely visit the Swan and it could almost be said I save for special occasions. Friday was one of these and...... although I have known it change hands, the menu and food has always retained its high regard. Mein hosts were very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was served within a suitable waiting time, plates and dishes piping hot and I was pleased to see the home made 'warm' bread cobs and garlic butter was still a requisite accompaniment. Unfortunately, I do have to say that the quantity of vegetables served (not potatoes) were not really sufficient for 2 people.......... especially when both enjoy their vegetables. Elsewise, can't fault the food, the service and especially the ambience. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Excellent variety for choice for the Sunday lunch with a "plethora" of starters, mains and sweets. Drinks at reasonable prices (I was driving so non alcohol) but others were very satisfied. If I could find a reason of "moan/complaint" and not against the staff as I said earlier they were EXCELLENT but others in the party were "tutting & clucking" about the smokers going into garden and puffing away (personally I DON'T mind but I'm and ex (reformed) smoker) but there is adequate signs to say no smoking in this area. Such a lovely place to go. Always a warm welcome and quick service. They have a great menu and there are always plenty of options for vegetarians - which is great for me. I have had quite a few meals here now and they are always cooked to perfection and so tasty. If you haven't tried this place yet then make sure you do.

Amazing food without fail. Friendly staff and homely atmosphere. The refurbishment looks beautiful and still has the quirky Swan appeal. There is now an outside seating area and extra car parking. I highly recommend a visit to this lovely country pub.

We went here after a walking trip and had an ample, tasty Sunday lunch. I believe that they have refurbished since then so we will plan another visit.

They are great but DO NOT trust the hours posted, they close whenever they feel like it.

Perfect! We went with family for the Sunday roast which was absolutely gorgeous, a couple in our group are VERY big eaters and were more than satisfied, lovely surroundings, friendly and polite staff and fantastic atmosphere. 100% recommended.

My most favourite little deli! Have been coming here for 11+ years and have never left disappointed. The food is fantastic and whenever I take people there (generally grabbing lunch with a colleague) they're always impressed with the quality of the food. Personal favourites are the brie and bacon baguette and THE WORLDS BEST lemon cheesecake (chefs kiss). Only slight criticisms would be the place gets so busy it can mean can't always eat in (shows how good the place is) and they're closed on a Monday which tends to be the day I work in the office so can't always nip in to the best deli in Leicestershire.

As it was a sunny day, the place was busy although we found a table. Recently the menu has changed in my view for the worst. Prices have leapt with choice not as good as it used to be. Although our order arrived in decent time one or two people who came in after us left upon being informed there was a waiting time of over 30 mins for cooked food. We have been regulars here but with the menu change and big increase in prices will sadly look elsewhere.

A fantastic night with friends enjoying the cocktail masterclass with Jerome a great bartender and entertainer. Jerome knows his stuff, easily explaining what to mix and how, with a little bit of science too. We gratefully accepted the cocktails he made so effortlessly and then had a go at making our own, Jerome’s teaching style made this fun and easy and overcame any of our nerves with encouragement and humour. Thanks for helping us have a great night out 5⭐️
