My family and I (11 of us) came for a meal for a birthday celebration this evening and were sat next to an even larger table (double the size of ours?) who were also celebrating a birthday. The table next to us had just finished eating when we arrived and were drinking; they were so loud and rowdy and after enduring it for a while, my dad asked them politely if they’d mind being a little bit quieter, whilst also acknowledging that they were there for a celebration too. This was met with an awkwardness and hostility which persisted throughout the whole meal, with younger (drinking alcohol) members of the other table continuing to moan and talk about it under their breath for the duration. Reference was made to the fact it’s a pub and not a wake. Completely appreciate that, but it was 6pm in a family pub, with our young children including a 3 year old and one month old baby. We spoke to bar staff afterwards whose response was ‘sorry there wasn’t anything we could do about it’, ‘it’s just one of those situations’, ‘it was out of our control’ which just highlights that they would not have dealt with it appropriately had they been given the opportunity to, and were probably just happy to take their money! The pub was empty apart from our two tables and my mum had mentioned that perhaps we could have been placed elsewhere, to which the waitress responded to say ‘there was nowhere else we could put you’ even though we have previously frequented the pub and sat elsewhere over the last twelve years. On leaving the pub, one person from the other table said they ‘were that close to decking my dad’ - a completely disproportionate response!! The really loud and then awkward atmosphere and poor response of the bar staff/ management are all reasons why we left our meal early (taking the birthday cake with us) and we will not be returning in the future! I’d recommend others look elsewhere too based on our experience.

Visited this lovely pub on Saturday 13th April with my wife and 3 adult kids for a meal. Pub itself is lovely , we ordered drinks then went through to our table. You go to the bar to order from the extensive and very reasonably priced Menu. I had the spicy burger, my wife and son went for the chicken burger while my daughters had Mac & Cheese and The Hunters chicken respectively. All of the food came out promptly and at the same time and was absolutely superb. Burgers very tasty and juicy, the chicken burgers were lovely and crisp on the outside and juicy in the middle. Hunters chicken also had a glowing report as did the Mac & Cheese. All in All a great time was had by all and we will definitely be returning soon. 5 Starts in our opinion

We have been to this lovely country pub a few times now. Each time we were given a warm welcome by all staff. On this occasion it was for mothers day with my mum and one of my daughters. The food was delicious and staff are attentive and check you are happy with your meal. Service was quick and the food didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was relaxing and we sat by the welcoming fire to finish our drinks. I can't wait for the better weather when we can enjoy sitting outside in their large garden. Good for families with small children to have a good run around. The Wishing well wecomes dogs with their well behaved owners also. I would highly recommend a visit. They can also cater for wakes and functions just enquire. We will hopefully be back to celebrate my mum's 80th Birthday.

Wanted somewhere spacious as we have a big dog - loads of room - fire on the go too. We had two gammon egg and chips and little one had kids meal - all came to £30. The gammon was cooked really well as were the eggs - loads of chips. Staff were super friendly brought over water for the dog and treat and sorted us out a small kids dessert that wasn’t on the menu. Three empty plates and will definitely be coming back for lunchtime on a weekend again soon.

Visited with friends, on arrival was told there would be an hour wait if we wanted to order food as a big table coming. Allowed us to order, food delivered within 20 mins. No big table ever arrived. Food was below standard, had surf/turf - scampi was undercooked, lasagne, burger, and pie were okay. Son had mixed grill, egg was not cooked, steak was very well overdone and chewy. Some plates were cleared before others had finished and one plate they tried to clear while I was still eating. 16 year old had a pint of cider with his food (which is within the law) and he was told he couldn’t drink it after it had been paid for. Whole meal was completely rushed and made to feel very unwelcome. When we left at 8.15pm only 3 cars left in car park. Did make it known to bar staff that it was disappointing. Do not recommend.

Having lived in the village for 2 years, I was so pleased to see that, finally, the Wishing Well was starting to get good feedback and said to my husband, let’s pop in and give it a go. He checked their website to check that it was open and saw a 30% off Mains offer so even better, off we went. We walked in and saw that there was a table of about 8-10 sat down and a couple of friendly chaps at the bar along with another man who was trying to place an order with an obviously new member of staff who whilst lovely, clearly hadn’t been trained at all as she was unable to work the till and struggled to find items the man was trying to order. So much so, after 20 minutes of standing at the bar and I still hadn’t ordered. I showed the lady the email from their website and as she was new said she’d ask Kev to put it through for her. I honestly can’t think of a more rude interaction ever in my life, especially from someone working in hospitality. Kevin was rude, abrupt, told me he knew nothing of the voucher and even if it was on his website that didn’t mean he had to accept it. At this point I said, quite politely, don’t worry about the voucher, I’ll pay whatever as I’ve been waiting for 20 minutes so it didn’t matter. At that point he raised his voice and asked if I’d booked, stated if I’d have booked I wouldn’t have waited (?) and when I then said don’t worry about it we’ll go elsewhere shouted across a full bar (because the queue was now so long) to get out. Absolutely dreadful service and not only would I never return, I would encourage everybody never to visit. Incidentally having read through the suspicious number of recent positive reviews and when the owner has to review himself more than once, I would encourage people to take the reviews, and the (Chat GPT replies) with a pinch of salt.

We visited the past sunday for a roast after attending a birthday meal a few weeks back ( which the waitress ended up charging one of the guests on our table for somebody elses tab!) and happened to see they do a deal on sunday for 2 or 3 courses. After being shown to our table and being told the roasts were still on we thought great... After ordering a beef roast and trio of meats the barmaid came over to tell us there was not enough beef for both dinners so my wife said that is fine and she will just have extra pork.. this was fake news as there was not even enough beef for one dinner as i found out ( one and half slices).I then asked the waitress who bought the food to the table where our parsnips were that the menu mention, she went to the kitchen and came back to inform us that they had ran out just before we ordered.. information i think should of been shared before bringing is our food or wt least an alternstive offered at this point. I gave up at this point and really did not want to ask about the swede mash that was also non existent...My wifes pork looked like it had been boiled or steamed with absolutely no taste what so ever and the roast chicken was a dry grilled chicken breast. Roast potatoes were very dry and were very chewy like they had been sat up for a while. The seaonsal veg and yorkshire were nice though which is what stops this review being worse! There is also an untidy gentleman walking round which i assume is the manager? If this is the case a serious class in customer service is needed! I actually cringed everytime i heard him speak to customers he was that abrupt and rude!!!Will definitely not be returning.R.H

The experience at the wishing Well Codrington was upsetting and disappointing, after weeks planning for a birthday celebration, the management and kitchen staff are clearly clueless in handling more than 6 covers for dinner... Two of us had steak deals (one went back twice due too not cooked correctly, then left on plate), Two of us had burgers meals, surely you can’t get that wrong, yes they did, one being chicken was not cooked, it was a tower of mush, that was returned, then declined to be eaten) One had the special fish meal, came to the table lukewarm, clearly had been microwaved or something from frozen. One ordered a Toad in the whole dish, (allegedly toad in the hole, but looked more like a discount large yorkie pudding and some cheap sliced burnt sausages dumped on top) it looked so unappetising, and didn’t taste right. So disappointing as everyone was looking forward to great birthday celebration, we had a small discount for the poor quality of food served, but I will be making a formal complaint to retrieve all costs, as the time we travelled to get there from various parts of Bristol we were completely let down by the quality and service of this establishment....we booked on the basis of reviews and a previous visit, don't be pulled in by such nonsense, the pub looks the idyllic country attraction, don't be fooled , WE WERE !!! Biggest mistake Mr Landlord / Manager you never had the decency to discuss the matter when we attempted to pay the bill, you walked away and let one of your poor junior waitress's try and deal with things, just shows the weakness, and there was a problem?Best thing all round for you to do my friend would be to take a really good hard look in what and how you’re running the Wishing Well, before it ends going down one...'it will' if you are not monitoring what you are doing as a food business and quality to the customer....It’s was Awful..!

I came with family for a birthday meal in the week, not a particularly busy night. A waitress came over straight away and we ordered starters off the grazing section of the menu (nachos, chicken and wedges) which were nice - this came after about 20 minutes which was fair and they did taste nice but no particular skill was involved as it was pre prepared and fried. The mains took at least an hour from clearing the starters which we feel was too long. We were not told the wait times or kept updated so we had to ask. After asking the food arrived shortly after, brought out by another waitress. My meal (halloumi) was very overcooked/burnt and rock hard (this was eventually replaced after i'd finished my meal and then came undercooked and rubbery) with a very small portion of tiny butternut squash chunks which looked fried not roasted as advertised. This certainly was not worth the money and left feeling dissapointed and unsatisfied. Others said their meals were cold yer overcooked, below average and portions were small even when you account for the low prices (£9-10 for a meal). Everyone with us felt their expectations although not overly high, were not met.The waitress did not check back until half the table had finished meaning not much could be done to fix the issues and the table had run out of drinks as we were not asked or had to oppertunity to ask.We decided to not have deserts as the service was very slow. The young girls serving seemed quite busy, which may be why the service was slow, uncommunicative, unattentive and overall generally poor although we accept this may not be entirely their fault due to lack of staff. In summary I would not come back or reccomend this pub for food, you get what you pay for - it is a cheap chain pub and the low prices reflect the quality of food and service. My advice would be to spend a little more elsewhere- don't take the gamble.

Always made to feel welcome - our table is always reserved, even the locals greet us with a wave or hug when we walk in (apparently we are now classified as honourary villagers). Can't think of any other places we've been to that phone, to let you know in advance, that they have taken delivery of a menu item and did we want it reserved - had lamb shanks with vegetables and minted mash last night - went down a treat - thank you Mark. I have to say the roast I was served was probably the worst ever. Over cooked and tough Beef, over cooked and soggy veg and a Yorkshire pudding that was actually black , I couldn’t even attempt to eat. I was feeling quite rubbish and couldn’t be bothered to accept the offer of the staff to re do the meal. Whilst I am on the subject off the staff, I have to say everybody who we encountered were really lovely. They did offer to cook a fresh meal and had I had more time or patience I would have accepted based purely on how lovely they all were. I suppose my only issue really is why did the kitchen let the meal go out as it was in the first place? The deserts were both divine which was a welcome end to the meal and in all honesty I would return to give another go because of the staffs attitude when things do sometimes go wrong.

I scored 2 purely for the food alone which is ok not excellent but ok.I have been eating here many years and have seen landlords/ladies come and go. We often go on a Wednesday as it’s curry night which is reasonable and the Irish chap that works is lovely and friendly.Well thought I would go in yesterday Saturday for lunch for a meal! Never again!! Told to take a seat abruptly by woman behind the bar and advised food orders could be up to half an hour, which is fine it was fairly busy. Our order was taken quickly. Before our meal came out my husband went to the bar to order drinks and he was told they would be brought out to us. 10 mins later our food came out but no drinks! We finished our food after half hour of ordering our drink which we still didn’t have we were ready to leave so went to pay our bill, to our horror we had been charged for said drinks which we had never received, when punting this out to the chap a woman bar staff piped up and was rude argumentative and sarcastic about it.We will never set foot in there again, we eat out every weekend and have been in far busier pubs than this one and never waited so long for drinks. The 2 woman behind the bar (one of which is the landlady I believe) should not be working with the public with there attitude. They were disgraceful.

This pub has come a long way since being taken over by new management. Having experienced the before and now the after, we now visit this pub regularly and find the new management friendly with nothing too much trouble. Nice menu selection cooked well with not too much waiting time however, depending on what you order would depend in some cases on how long you wait? Sunday roasts are a little pricey but with unlimited roast potatoes and vegetables I think the cost represents the amount you get so order the extras and fill up! Cauliflower cheese a nice touch which is also included. Now, sometimes the odd thing gets forgotten like my crackling on my pork dinner ( the only reason I order pork) or it runs out but knowing before I order would influence what I had and therefore remove the disappointment when my meal turns up (just a small thing but relevant to me) That aside, well done wishing well it is now a pleasure to come and visit even with the few teething problems occasionally which can be experienced by any establishment taking over a new business..... See you soon!

My friend and I have a girlie night out once a week, our night away from hubbies and kids. We planned to go to several pubs, but that fell by the wayside when we stumbled across The Wishing Well. The atmosphere, food and welcome from Mark, Vicky and Dave is second to none. The fact we can walk in through the door and they have our table and drinks sorted before we even get the to bar says it all. The steak we had last week was the tastiest and most succulent we'd ever had , anywhere. Big thumbs up from us. Can't wait for summer and the bbq's! Also, if you have any special dietary needs, Mark will do his best to cater for those too.

Having been visiting the Wishing well over the past few years we've seen many changes. As I've been reading quite a few people seemed to have a problem with the service of the previous management and was the reason we hadn't returned. Today we thought we'd give it another chance and found that its once again under new management. The staff are much more friendly and customer service was top notch bringing drinks over to the table and asking how our food was. The food has improved greatly since the last management too. I haven't seen it quite so busy in a long time and I hope it continues as I'm sure we'll be returning once again.

Cosy pub tastefully decorated for Xmas. The menu has plenty of standard meals typically seen for the 'chain' types but there was a separate specials board, also. A well stocked bar and good 'cask marque' hobgoblin ale.The light bite cod and chips was satisfactory at under £6, as was the beef madras at under £9. Desserts appeared mouthwatering, as they passed us to other tables but we were too full to order one.Service and hospitality was faultless.

We have just had a great Sunday roast with my family. The portions were plentiful and the staff very helpful, especially as we requested gluten free gravy and Yorkshire pudding for one person. Theres a nice choice of sweets which are also big and its excellent value and very nice ambience. We'll be back next week for our Christmas do.

We often stop off at this pub on our way home from bath either for a drink, the garden is lovely in the summer by the way. Big with plenty of tables and lots of room for kids to play. I have read the reviews above and yes the pub has had a few different managers latley .i have eaten here in the past and the food was always good so we thought we would give it ago. The pub was quiet but the staff were welcoming and we stayed for food. The girls waiting the tables were prompt and friendly and our food was served reasonably quickly . It was well presented and of good quality and tasted very nice which is all you want really. Desert was equally good and our bill reasonable. Its a shame this pub was so quiet as it is only 10 minutes drive from yate/sodbury . So if you read this review please give the place some support . It is improving and we have always enjoyed coming here

Just what this place needed. Its got so much potential but has never sparkled like it should! It's cheap pub grub with great gardens and the new managers are friendly and really do go above and beyond - just what this place needed. We ate: medium rare sirloin- perfectly cooked (although the cut was slightly grisly so pooch had a little treat- will try the rump next time!); fish and chips- perfect; and 2 kids meals- also perfect. All plates /floors were empty... yep the cheeky pooch hoovered a couple of stray peas while we were chatting!! Our meals qualified on the Thursday meal deal for wine (2 meals and bottle for £20 (£22 with steak)) you really cannot go wrong with eating here with that mix of value for money and tasty food. It's nice to see a pooch friendly country pub too (hard wood only areas) We will be back... ;)

After reading the last review am now confused. ..if these folk had visited previously surely they saw kids play equipment etc and sorry but a big screen telly in restaurant area? If I wanted to hear news I would either stay at home or listen to radio in car...my partner and I enjoy going out for meals. .we enjoy the fact we can talk interact with friends and just talk without the distraction of the box in the background and may I say home made mash was...well...the atmosphere is one of tension with very few tables taken and a landlady saying all the correct things but in totally the wrong attitude. ..comes across as being abrupt. No will not be trying again it's not worth the journey shame as it has potential to be nice place

After coming in a few weeks ago we decided we would come back because it was soooo good however since we came the last time there have been a few horrible reviews but we gave it a try anyway and were so glad we did. We came in on a lunchtime and we're greeted by a lovely smiling face behind the bar, I think her name was Jan (according to the till) we were served drink rather promptly and told about the two for one menu, main menu and the special menu. When we sat down on a table in the window we saw that there was a climbing frame which my daughters absolutely loved and didn't want to leave. How brilliant that you can still get a pub that has a climbing frame. And dogs? No problem there was a table with a dog next to us.We decided on our food. Steak and Cheese Pie and I forget what the tigers were. When the food arrived after 20 minutes it was presented gorgeously, a big pie; plenty of broccoli, carrots and peas. And a massive dollop of homemade mashed potato which is rarely seen in pubs anymore. The gravy was gorgeous and it was a brilliant meal.We had a few more drinks and the girls played and overall it was an amazing experience. Thank you to Jan and Toby (chef, who came over and introduced himself) and the new land people who have truly turned it around from the dump it was before hand. Thank you and we will be backP.s. Brilliant idea to put a TV up in the restaurant. The kids loved being able to watch tv and eat and it was nice to watch the news after the meal

So today we thought we would have a nice meal out at a local pub. However it was not as we would expect. We walked in around half past 2 and were told that the roast dinners were coming to an end and that if we would like to have a drink and wait half an hour we could chose something off of the main menu. This was fine so we sat down and had a drink and ordered off the menu. An hour and a half after entering the pub we were still waiting for our food. The barmaid came over and apologised about the wait and said the chef was getting 'stressy' because she had told him that it shouldn't take this long and he said that the change over takes time and food would be served at 4. Not long after the food came out, it was nice but not the greatest of meals. Overall the whole experience was rubbish and we will not be eating there again. This is a shame as the pub as a real potential to be lovely.

On arrival we were greeted at the bar by a slightly abrupt barmaid that immediately pointed out that there would be a 45 minute wait for food, we were hoping for a nice evening out so this wasn't going to be too much of a problem, so we ordered our drinks, my partner looked at the menu, and mentioned to me that it looked different, the barmaid rudely shouted “different to where!?”, she gave us our drinks, and we found a table, there wasn't many customers in, it was very quiet, and there seemed to be a strange atmosphere, the feeling that things weren't quite right here.

Called in for a drink late afternoon/early evening, looked nice from outside, quaint with good size garden. Inside however, was tatty with odd mixture of oldish furniture and kiddies sweet machines right next to the bar. Landlady and landlord looked as if they were in the middle of decorating by the way they were dressed, gave an impression of not bothering about the appearance of anything.

Visited on a Monday afternoon in the school holidays. Couple of tables sat in the pub drinking but we were the only 2 sat in the large and peaceful beer garden. Had a pint and a coke shared with my partner (under £5) when we decided to have a look at the menu. It was two for 1 on main meals so we both had the chicken burger (and added bacon for £1) which had a decent sized chicken breast inside and was very tasty, came with two onion rings and generous portion of chips and the total for both of our meals was £7.50!!! Absolutely amazing and the lady working was really lovely, defiantly will be stopping off to have a quick lunch soon!!!

The food was bland, vegetables under done & roast potatoes terrible. We thought the table stand menu was glued to the table but it was stuck because of the dirt, they were under staffed so waitress service was bad. The waitress brought the meals out holding the plates with a very filthy rag of a tea towel, we watched as another wiped the tables with a even filthier dish cloth. The waitress even wiped her sweat off her face with this cloth!!!!!!!!!!!The whole pub was grubby, including the staff attire & the decor is in need of a good overhaul. It's a shame to be a Marstons Pub.

We were a group of 12 and needed a place to eat in spec so nothing booked, we tried a couple of places but all busy but when we arrived at the Wishing Well (as it's now called) they were only to happy to find room for us and take care of us. We have a really nice seating area with a nice outside section for smôkers and a kids play area. we all ordered from the manu and had wine, beer, great Cider and soft drinks. Some have starters and some sweets, I had a very good curry that came with all the extras and was well presented and very tasty (I'll try to extra hot next time!) we had a leasurely mead and were served very well by very friendly staff. at the end I went to settle the bill and was amazed at the price, about a tenner per head. this is really great vaure in lovely suppoundings and I was told by friends that it's always busy. Well done to the Well!! I'll be back for the curry next year!

Take a punt on the Grumpy Griffin. It might be your lucky day but then again you might regret it. A mixed set of results from customers. Mine was negative. No real ale. Only a few peeps on Sunday mid-afternoon and one was drunk as a Lord and seemingly spoiling for trouble. Background music was fine. Quality tv showing a premiership game. Just cider, lager and Guinness on tap. Feels like a local pub where others are not made welcome.

Chips were excellent, just a shame a large chips £4.20 was served in there smallest box. Dread to think what a small chip portion would look like .

This pub as not changed and in some ways got worse. This was for a birthday day meal for a family member and like last year 2 peace's of broccoli and 2 parsnips teaspoon of sweed mash at least there not trying to cover the plat with a giant Yorkshire pudding normal size this time. The thing what really annoyed myself was after 1 hour and half we were told we had to leave the table as someone else was coming in for two my partner had not finished her desert. And the other thing was after we had to go out side I bought my partner a hot chocolate the staff member said it's pink and the manager said it still tastes like hot chocolate but it didn't it was disgusting and I felt I had wasted £3.50. To top that of my son fell over going up there septs from the play area looked slippery. This place as not changed in my opinion it's a rip off if you want a family meal there you don't want to be rushed and all they want is your money and want you to leave. I don't really want to come back to this place.
