Really like this pub there garden space is nice spacious and children welcome all inclosed. There seating out the front also staff are welcoming and helpful fantastic range of drink alcoholic and non alcoholic good music and atmosphere .There toilet facilities are very good especially disabled will definitely be going back as have done for years

As advertised food would start being served from 20 june and reading menue decided to go for lunch with 6 friends on arrivel was told kitchen closed and no idea when it will be open as keep changing date this could be a regular friday treat for a group of over 60s but we came away very disappointed i said they need to get there web pages up to date

Found it to be very welcoming and friendly. Altogether friendly bar staff and customers alike. A lovely clean and tidy place with a garden and children welcome. Will definitely be going there again and told it is now under new management. Keep up the good work newbies!!

Great service and very accommodating staff. With A good selection of beers to choose from. The bathrooms are very clean, the beer garden is very quiet and relaxed, especially for being located on a busy high st, a great choice for a nice pint highly recomend visiting 5 stars.

A period traditional pub. Was welcomed on arrival which made us feel comfortable , was told that it’s under new management and that the kitchen is opening later this month so only had drinks in the family garden. We went for lunch on a weekday, and didn't expect table service as it's a pub - but that's what we got, which was lovely. We chose different dishes, both of which arrived in more generous portions than you would expect for the excellent prices. Will definitely go again (and if you're reading this and are tempted - try the faggots and mash, bloody lovely).

We celebrated Mother's Day, 9 of us for Sunday lunch and a very pleasant occasion it was. Choice of 3 roasts and very well cooked and presented they were. Excellent quality and good service made for an enjoyable celebration.

Dropped in for lunch with my mum. We had the liver casserole and I have to say it was delicious. It was home made and the seasoning and flavour perfect / served with proper mash and vegetables that were cooked perfectly - it was really good value for money. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. The customer experience was really good too - the lady that served us was friendly and efficient. This was the best pub meal I’ve had in a long time and excellent value for what you got

This pub was the quieter of the two on this part of the high street. Since the pub across the road was playing 'Build Me Up Buttercup', I was keen to come here instead. The pun was really friendly, as were the locals and when a rogue man with a knife was wandering up and down the high street the staff calmly locked us all in and kept us safe. They dealt with it very well.

Visited with the misus at lunchtime as I grew up around Thornbury and as someone who manages pubs I can say that the staff, service and food quality here are all top notch. I had an omelette and the misus the smother fried burger and both were just right. Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back when I'm next around the area. Came here for a lunch function of approximately 80 people (think we pretty well took over the place!) and the buffet was superb. A great range of choice from Indian nibbles to Greek salads and very generous portions. The rolls had so much content that many places would have spread it over two or three rather than only one roll! Despite our numbers and the best efforts of six hungry teenagers there was plenty left and the organisers left it for the benefit of the regulars to nibble on that evening. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. If their regular menu is up to the same standard I would highly recommend this pub.

Just popped in on a sunny day for a glass of wine with a friend and we sat in the garden which is lovely. Nice choice of chilled wines. We visit here quite a bit now. Big and spacious inside on cooler days.

We came here for lunch this week, and my companion had ham, egg and chips with garden peas, which he said were excellent. I had fish and chips and garden peas also excellent, in fact some of the best chips I've ever had, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and piping hot. The fish was in large, moist flakes in perfect batter. We were very impressed and mighty pleased. The portions were so generous that I couldn't finish all my chips (very unusual for this greedy gal). The staff were efficient and charming, the place was clean and fresh as was the toilets (with a special key, which is a good idea healthwise). Yes, we love The White Lion at Thornbury - highly recommended!

Big, spacious and cosy. A welcome stop on a busy Thornbury Fireworks event. Lots of choices to stop on the High Street but I certainly wouldn't avoid the White Lion.

We found the staff so very friendly in this wonderful pub. It was a hot sunny day so we enjoyed drinks in the garden but was thankful for an umbrella for the shade. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Abi and her team were really helpful in organising a recent family wake. They listened and responded to our requests and were able to support us to adhere to the COVID requirements. We were pleased with the event and the service we received. Thank you.

Went for family wake. Area too small to adhere to covid regulation. 6 of us , all strangers, Had to sit on a table usually used for 4 people & were told this was ok. The landlady was rude & miserable, & should have been more sensitive to the predicament but was more interested in her regulars. The food was unappealing. was once a nice place, not now, avoid at all cost.

Always been a welcoming pub but in these Covid times the garden is a real treat. Nothing for kids to play on but loads of space in beautifully laid out sunny garden. Just go!

Beautifully refurbished pub/eatery. Food not so beautiful sunday roast a bit cold and cabbage not washed and gritty. When the meals came out it was one at a time so probably 5 mins when the last person got theirs. Prices reasonable puddings great.

Went for lunch today with my mum . Ordered fish and chips , it was and oversized dried up fish finger. Asked for sauce and got given one tiny sachet between 2 of us . No atmosphere and felt completely ripped off and left still hungry . Never again

New landlords, new food! The menu in the week is good and they give big portions, Sunday lunch at the start had teething problems but I can seriously say it's one of the best Sunday roasts in Thornbury now. Good potatoes, good veg (parsnips yum yum!!) Great cauliflower cheese, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, gravy is delicious and plenty of meats to choose from. Give it a go :)

Ordered the lemon and terragon chicken and jacket potato. Delicious and fresh. Daughter had the sweet potato fried and they tastes amazing too. Dave and Abbie are very welcoming and faultless with regard hospitality. Would definitely recommend this place.

Warm welcome and plenty of space, the beer garden is beautiful. We sat inside as it was too sunny for the baby we had with us, the high chairs were spotless. Great food and good value for money. Service was exceptional.

I came here on a Friday night for a couple of drinks with my partner and two friends, immediately as we walked we noticed the only group there was at the bar shouting, swearing and falling all over the place..It wasn't too late when we arrived and I actually just wanted a coffee not a drink drink so much, but the guy behind the bar was so rude to me and acted a bit like a stroppy teenager that I just told him not to worry about making it.My female friend used the bathroom and found vomit on the floor, my partner also said there was feaces in the mens.When my partner went to use the bathroom our table was approached by a very drunk man in a vest top who came off intimidating and made us really uncomfortable..Positives for this place are that it has cheap drink prices, the building itself is lovely, great back garden to sit out in the sun, and the bar staff were friendly enough although one person who did serve me seemed to be wearing what looked like joggers/pyjamas?This place has so much potential, but it seems overrun by locals that ruin it a bit for others.. it needs to be kept sanitary, better service/ some training on hospitality, and ground rules relating to drink, drugs and anti-social behaviour set and enforced..I will enjoy going back when standards are improved..

A meal of contrasts - good and bad (or at least mediocre). Whitebait to start - very good, freshly cooked and nice and hot, served with some rather dubious tartare sauce BUT, rather strangely, on a bed of tired salad - not ideal companions. For a main course the ubiquitous 'beer battered' fish was quite good, though on the small side, but the chips (hand cut and gluten free!!!) had a most peculiar taste. The home made jam sponge pudding was very good but why go to all that trouble if you are going to ruin it with cheapest catering custard? All in all the odd food above, the unimaginative menu (that runs to about five pages) and the nasty piped music turned the balance from 'very good' to 'average' though the potential is clearly there for four stars. The service is pleasant and efficient.

Ribeye cooked to perfection. All the trimmings and extras including mac’n’cheese, peppercorn sauce and onion rings were delicious! Starters weren’t great tbh... main course made up for it! Never rated this place to eat before - you guys are doing a brilliant job.

I had the sausage and mash, and my friend had the chicken and chorizo pitta. Both meals were really tasty and my friend and I left extremely satisfied. Will definitely be coming back!

Had been talking with a friend all week about having a burger and so glad we come here for it!! I had the steak boy burger with added cheese - I have a big appetite and my god did it fill it... amazing food!!!

Had the Chilli cheese pork belly, crackling was top notch would recommend to anyone, the peanut butter brownie is a must aswell if you’ve got a sweet tooth.

We popped in for a bite to eat on Tuesday and were really impressed. Food was really tasty, big portions and service was top notch. I had the Denver cut from the smoke hut and wpuld highly recommend....we'll be back

I went to The White Lion early evening with a group of friends to find a lovely garden out the back with a relax atmosphere. We ordered a number of food dishes to share between us, these arrived quickly and were full of flavour, the staff were helpful and friendly.

We were after a light bight today, being 28 degrees we only wanted a small lunch. Upon arrival we ordered some drinks and helped ourself to a menu from the bar. The place was empty which surprised us. We sat outside in the garden with our drinks and then went back in to order some sandwiches from the lunch menu. The lady behind the bar said I am not sure what food we are serving today, I’ll need to ask. Another member of staff said I don’t know either, I will ask the kitchen. So I stood and waited, and the lady came back and said we have a Sunday menu only today. So I asked to see the menu. None of the staff could find a menu, they all asked each other, no one seemed to know what was going on. Eventually a Sunday menu was found and shown to me. Which consisted of Sunday lunch only - to which I explained it was so hot and we didn’t want a roast dinner. So that was that. I went back outside to my partner in the garden and said what a shambles that was, to which a lady over heard and said what’s happened? She must have been the owner. I explained and she said right ok I’ll speak to the staff. She returned and said I can do some sandwiches, and I said great - all we wanted was a cheese and chutney sandwich each from the menu. Five minutes later we were given the sandwiches, which consisted of white stale bread with a slab of cheese inside - the bread was somehow very greasy too. The plate had a side salad and we weren’t given cutlery. We had to ask for this. The most bland, tasteless lunch I have ever had. We were then charged £12 for the tasteless sandwiches, which we grudgingly paid just to keep the peace, as we were so disappointed and couldn’t wait to leave. All in all a disastrous lunch with terrible service

This premises is no longer a Meze having closed and reopened under new ownership. It now has food done in a smoke oven that is well worth trying

Went here with 8 friends, on arriving got shown to our table by polite waitress. Good menu and better food. We all really enjoyed it and will be coming back again. Good atmosphere also and great staff.

Popped in a few days ago cleaning the filtration system. The staff were absolutely brilliant and the place looks amazing. Will defo be coming back here.

Absolutely loved the food here for lunch today - a fantastic smokehouse menu full of delicious choices. Everything looked and smelled fantastic - highly recommended if you enjoy your food!

I would not recommend a visit to the white lion, it seemed nice enough when we sat down but as soon as I opened the menu I got worried, there are hundreds of dishes (way too many for them all to be cooked fresh to order) and it seemed very confused, with flavours from all over the world rather than typical mezze dishes. There were four of us and we all ordered the from the mezze menu, when the food arrived it was really watery and had no real flavour and to top it of some of it was still frozen in the middle! When we complained they replaced the frozen item but didn’t offer to take it off our bill or compensate us in any other way. All in all it was a very disappointing lunch and we won’t be back again.

Having eaten here a couple of times now and on the first occasion being very happy with the food and service it was a real shame and with shock that on the second visit I was actually served a dish containing gluten despite its description as gluten free in the menu!! This is not good for someone with a serious intolerance who can be ill for days should they intake gluten.

The Mezze is my favourite place to eat and has been for years, even when it was at The George. Tonight I went for an early dinner with three friends. Unfortunately we were really cold in there. Also the plates they brought us were freezing! The food was perfect as always but the evening was spoilt by a group of young men sitting in the bar area. They swore and shouted loudly for a couple of hours. There was just a very nice young lady and young man behind the bar. Not much they could do I suppose. I guess this explains why the place was empty. Decent people don’t want to relax over a nice meal in that environment. The Mezze needs to protect its customers from this yobbish behaviour or I predict it won’t be open for much longer.

Great choices, good prices and comfy seats in the window for people watching. Perfect way to spend a lunchtime.
