Lovely setting, great service. Marked down because vegetarian burger was terrible. I should have complained at the time but the good old British “Let’s not make a fuss” kicked in, which is no help to anyone!

Oh no no no! This was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences I have in a long time ! Where to start… no welcome, no acknowledgement , find your own table because your name is on it ! Slow service, poor menu, no explanations. And then the food… firstly nothing here in my opinion is actually prepared on site.. just ordered in and heated … don’t get me wrong there is a place for that but not at these prices… and then… the mash potato was “rancid” so we asked to speak to the chef but no not possible… but the waitress confirmed that the chef agreed it was not good ! There were three of us that had this terrible mash potato. So one plate was removed the other two had to eat round their potato .. then the poor waitress came out and said … great news … we have a”gift for you “ a free coffee…… no service recovery, no apology, no reduction for the meal and …..…. A Full request for service charge… we have kept a sample of the mash and will report to EHO tomorrow… Have I mentioned watching our drinks sit on the bar for 11 minutes before they were finally brought to our table… again no no no

Asked to sit down at a table with dirty glasses and used plates. Told to order our own drinks at the bar. The food was terrible with old pre cooked potatoes and overcooked vegetables the greens were grey. The roast beef was tough and not pink as described in the menu. I think the food was just reheated badly as it was cold or just leftovers from lunch.

Lovely venue .. food was good ...staff very friendly .. however there was a dreadfull stench outside and inside. It was the smell of a cesspit overflowing definitely not the lake . This needs urgent attention as I am sure it is a health Hazzard. Such a shame ... would not go again !!!!!

The nice view was the only enjoyable thing about my visit. As a restaurant it is lacking. The food was not good. I wish I had checked reviews before coming, you will see several similar complaints. Expensive prices for mid food. I ordered the chicken + club sandwich for £13. It's not hard to do a good sandwich, especially one you are paying £13 for. Bread was cheap white slices (other places use nice ciabatta etc), plain chicken (tasteless), overcooked bacon. Friends complained about the veg that accompanied their food being undercooked. Deserts were okay but more expensive than other places for the same standard. Service could be made better by clearing up quicker - wasps were attracted to the cider bottles etc...

AVOID! Never been to a restaurant where so many staff members are doing absolutely nothing. No prices on the menu which isn't a deal breaker but still annoying. Waited 20 minutes before being asked if we wanted drinks. Food came quickly once ordered but was very disappointing, none of the table enjoyed the sunday roast which was chewy meat and a few vegetables. Another age went past before anyone collected the empty plates and offered dessert. Desserts were okay, easily the highlight of the meal, albeit the bar was low at this point. Asked for the bill, about 20 minutes past and we notice the waiter is stood chatting behind the bar. Only after awkward eye contact did he realise we were still waiting. Came over, dropped the bill on the table and left again for another 15 minutes. He had the cheek to add a 10% service charge onto the bill which I swiftly told him to remove without hesitation. Eventually came back with the card machine and a pathetic apology was offered whilst paying. Definitely wont be returning.

Not sure what has happened to this beautifully located pub/restaurant. The service was nonexistent, we had to go find some staff (all sitting out the back) to clear plates and order drinks and desserts. I’ve been here a few times before and the experience had been pretty good. Today was awful, the food was passable but front of house was a disaster.

Had arranged to meet a friend here. Read recent reviews after booking, so was a bit concerned. However the food and service were good. It ws busy, sunny day, but we didn't wait long for anything. I had pan seared salmon which was lovely, fish and veg perfectly cooked. My friend had sweet potato and chickpea curry which she said was lovely. Mini dessert and coffee after. The mini chocolate brownies weren't that mini thankfully; lovely and gooey, good quality vanilla ice cream on top. All presented nicely. Dropped one star as my plate hadn't been warmed.

Since the change in management this place is so ordinary it really doesnt warrant a review. Concept is dreadful. You book a table but have to get your own drinks. Not the usual drinks but the arty farty beers that no one wants so he doesn't stock because he can't sell enough of them. Obvious change of strategy needed there. The food has to be ordered at the bar if you are eating outside and everyone wants to eat outside. then you have to order and pay inside. The manager says we are going back to the traditional pub. That will be the pubs that all went bust. Great plan. The food is frankly shocking. We sent back 3 of the 4 meals. In fairness all our food was refunded, so kudos for that. Such a shame, fabulous location but just absolutely spoiled by a fundamentally flawed strategy and dreadful food. So despite the location you have to give it a miss.

What a pity that such a great venue serves such poor food The cooking is fine but it is obvious that the ingredients are the cheapest you can buy The fish in the fish and chips looks like it’s the tail section , thin and almost non existent. The mussels are the size of baked beans and had no succulence or meatiness Inspite of using cheaper ingredients the prices are comparable with other pubs in the area so please change your supplier

We pre booked a table and arrived slightly earlier than our booking for drinks. We were shown to our table and told not to rush as they were just completing breakfast. We took our time and another ten minutes a waitress asked if we were ready to order, which we weren’t. They said that’s fine and came back to take our order later. The food ordered was fish and chips, Beef and Ale pie and Cheeseburger. All very tasty and well prepared. Then we were offered desserts, which were also delicious. Not long after dessert we were told we had ten minutes to finish and pay, which we were a little surprised by. We accepted this graciously and waited for the bill. No bill arrived and another waitress showed up reminding us we needed to leave. We explained we were waiting for our bill. We then asked again for the bill, paid and left. Disappointing service, left hand not talking to right and feeling hassled to move on after spending £150 is not acceptable. Sorry guys won’t be returning until you improve communication and this ridiculous time slot rule.

Lovely location for a Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and plentiful. Good choice of drinks. We had a very warm welcome and on the whole the staff were very good. The tables are a little too close together and it's a bit of a trek downstairs to the toilets. I would suggest that you ask for a table in the lower part of the restaurant if you have difficulty walking or with stairs.

Veg good. £4.25 side dish of 2 carrots and 2 pieces of broccoli - embarrassing price for such a cheap serving of veg. 10% service charge automatically added. We went for lunch - one of the party is coeliacs so gluten free, but there was only one choice as the other 2 choices were not being offered - ditto with the puddings. Another one of our party is vegetarian and she said the 'sausage' was inedible - however they did refund her meal. The toilets are down a number of stairs, which would be absolutely no good for anybody with a disability and they don't have disabled toilets so I am unable to take my wheelchair bound husband (in this day and age they should cater for everyone) The view is worth going for if you are able bodied and have no allergies.

Just home from a very disappointing visit. Food does not look like the pictures.I queried about an allergen in one dish but the chef did not know in what part of the dish it was....turns out the pancakes are brought in and not made fresh and the box had been thrown away so they didn’t know the ingredients. For £8.25 I think this should be freshly made.I had French Toast instead and told it was delicious and they would put the fresh fruit on instead of egg/bacon. The fruit consisted on very few strawberries and a few dollops of what tasted like blackberry jam. The bread was as thin as I’ve ever seen, was chewy, like cardboard. I honestly cannot think of one positive thing to say about the food.I think they either need to massively reduce the prices or preferably invest in a chef who knows their ingredients as well as some quality ingredients.

Drove from Brighton for a Sunday roast. The lake was pretty but that is about it..There were over 20 staff working yet the customer service was poor.. We were given a table inside that was away from the view and right by the kitchen... The food.. well... we ordered one Sunday roast and one beef Brisket with a side of cheese chips.. the chips came out as a starter... then we had to wait a further 15 minutes for our actual mains... the roast was cold.. the potatoes were under cooked and the lamb was mainly gristle.. the Cauliflower Cheese came our 10 minutes after the roast... The beef brisket was meant to be served with a corn on the cob but just had sweetcorn sprinkled on the salad... Poor service apart from the end when we were given 50% off but it was poor...Advice drink here but don't eat.. have had better food in a Weatherspoons

We arrived for dinner at 17:30 on 22nd Oct as we had children with us, we were seated in Booth which was great. We ordered drinks came super fast, whilst looking at the menu I noticed a large majority of it contained NUTS. Not good for allergie sufferers. I informed our waitress one of the children had a server NUT allergy (Not airbourne) told her what he wanted. She went straight to chef confirmed everything with him/her. All good to go so we continued our order. Food was amazing we all throughly enjoyed it. Then we ordered dessert for children with a different waitress, the dessert was safe according to menu. However our first waitress said to my son and me she wanted to double check with chef first. She came back said all good. We had a lovely evening and food value for money. I just want to say our waitress was amazing, very attentive and went above and beyond. I pray she stays as I feel she is a huge credit to your restaurant.

It's been a good few years since visiting but on Sunday I returned with brothers and father - and I was glad we did! The weather was spot on for early October so we sat out front by the lake with the sun, couple of pints of Guinness and watched the water skiing. We had some garlic bread followed by a couple of roast dinners and burgers, all very nice. The deserts were great too! Why the bad reviews....this place is lovely!!!!!! We went to the WireMill on a Tuesday just after noon and it was already busy outside, good to see they are doing well after lockdown. We were given the last booth on the terrace. Our waitress (Denise I think) took our drinks order which arrived really quickly from the bar staff. She was mostly on her own but handled all the tables brilliantly taking orders in the correct order of people arrving. We didn't have to wait long at all. Once everyone was served you could see she was keeping an eye on all the tables, very professional. All the staff were really friendly and were working hard in the heat. We had a burger each and they were fantastic, the chips were yummy! We also had desserts (a Banoffe one and a salted caramel one) which were lovely and very generous portions. It was amazing and will are going back!! Ignore the bad reviews!!! People moaning as they are out of some dishes....this is a good thing! We want pubs to have their business again!!

A majority, not all, of the over staffed FOH team are woefully under trained, I would suggest the owners out-source some training as the managers are too overwhelmed with getting through a busy service for the blame to lie with them. There is no need to possess any teeth when eating the tasteless, under seasoned crab and Avocado starter a simple Lemon wedge, mayo and somthing to crunch would improve this dish greatly. There is no Pepper grinder in the place, no mustard when we went. The Bavette Steak was good enough for a skirt steak, although the inedible and revolting dollop of "charred sweetcorn & parmesan slaw" had no place on a plate of food, let alone alongside a steak, no sign of the Chimmichurri, but had given up asking for things and being informed there wasn't any. keep it simple a grilled tomato & mushroom would suffice, Did note there was plenty of Cracked black pepper on the menu, though none the Chef was willing to share to the guests. This was just my meal out of the 4 of us dining. The others were as poor, but i don't have time nor the inclination to write those up. Some small tweeks and the place could be amazing. I did love the fact, written on the menu, that the place went above and beyond during lockdown serving over 2,000 meals to the homeless and over 30,000 to the elderly and in need. Hats off for that. Best of luck for the future.

After asking for the manager he rudely told us to move to a different table and we were told there was a first come first serve rule for the booths. But after seeing a table reserved for a couple who were staying in the hotel and people being put on the booths after coming later than us we asked Destiny why this was happening and she reccomended we should leave. We stayed and ordered drinks and food, after waiting for a long time for the drinks and food which wasnt very good, we were told lies about bookings on the booths and we saw parties who hadnt even booked walk straight onto empty booths while we were told it was not possible to move to the booth

Average experience really let down by poor service. Staff are friendly enough but just so slow and don't seem to really care. We had to chase drink orders 4 or 5 times, had to call someone over to order our food, which wasn't easy! We had to chase up everything even asking for cutlery for our mains. These are such standard things it shouldn't be something customer should have to ask for. Never a sorry either for the drinks. Cocktails looked nice but we didn't chance ordering one because if it take 20 minutes to get a glass or wine or a beer, I hate to think how long a cocktail would take. What was really annoying was being told at the end they don't take cash! You need to tell people at the start or the meal or when they book!! Poor. There is no reason by now not to take cash again. None of us will be back after today. Food was average, the only thing going for it is the setting which is lovely. Let down by everything else, mostly the service, unfortunately.

Upon arrival the view was stunning and I was prepared for a wonderful experience. The drinks came quickly, but when it came to ordering food we waited what felt like hours. Then when the food came it wasn’t even edible, the gravy looked and tasted like it had come out of a packet and the whole meal was luke- warm. And the burgers we ordered were a dry and bland . I would not recommend this restaurant! While we were waiting we actually thought of going and I believe this would have been a far better option.I was willing to forget these mistakes, but then the desert came and I am not joking here, it looked like it had been scraped off the floor and served onto my plate. I would have preferred eating tarmac to this. Who ever is cooking these meals should be ashamed of themselves. It is probably a bunch of kids running this restaurant.

The service was extremely slow, with not enough staff to cover the amount of guests. The menu has a great range however the steak bavette stood out to us all. What a disappointment! It took over 45 minutes from ordering for our undercooked steak to arrive, I ordered medium- rare and I would say it was cooked no more than blue! Not only that, it was so tough to cut & chew. None of us ate the steaks for that reason. The waitress noticed this and gave us 50% off the food even though none of us ate it. We then stopped at another pub on our way home as we were all still hungry!Wouldn’t recommend or wouldn’t come back to this place!

I regret to say this was the first time I've ever felt the need to complain about the food when eating out - to the point I had to tell the waitress I wasn't prepared to pay for 2 out of our 3 mains. As others have mentioned, the views on offer when sitting up on the terrace are quite gorgeous, so first impressions were very good. Sadly everything from then on in was simply nowhere near a satisfactory standard. Early signs were bad when the starter myself and my partner ordered (advertised as a 'to share' dish) barely bore any real resemblance to its menu description and my Mum had to offer me a 'taste'of hers as it was so lacking in flavour she actually wanted to make sure her taste buds weren't playing tricks on her. This disappointment was then followed with a wait for our 3 mains that was so long that we had collectively decided to actually leave merely seconds before the waitress brought them to the table. In hindsight leaving would have been the better option as my Mum was served an utterly flavourless burger, paired with a portion of chips which were cold on arrival and me, myself, having a terrible cut of steak with a vile pesto sauce and revolting sweetcorn coleslaw - which at a quick glance I see has been the subject of a few mentions here already. My partners dish was seemingly okay but - as rightly said - should be better than just okay when you're paying a premium. Myself and my Mum's mains were left mostly uneaten and the waitress (who was very polite and apologetic) offered to remove them from the bill which I thought was a nice gesture. Having said that said I did see a Service Charge on the bill which I had to bite my tongue over given how poor the experience had been...

Have been going here for 40 years & love the setting, it can't be beaten around here .... but unfortunately i strongly feel that since lockdown that's actually become its downfall as the management appear to have just got really lazy. They've invested loads in improving the setting, the outdoor area is great but in the meantime have forgotten to care about the food and service. The author of the menu needs all the praise, they make the food sound amazing and so tempting ... and then the plate arrives! Meh! I ordered the hog burger, advertised as coming with chorizo & bacon jam, charred corn coleslaw ... sounds amazing ... couldnt be more disappointing. No sign of the jam, although I am sure it was technically there but on inspecting inside the bun I could see a slight red colour to the bun but that was it .... and the coleslaw? Well again there was the slightest sign of a white creamy something in the bottom. A cheap bun. Nothing inspiring about tyhe plate. I wish I had taken photos.Really disappointing drop in standards. The waitress was sweet enough but clearly had no idea about the menu, the drink options, or really any sign of trained customer service. Not her fault in the slightest. Up your game Wiremill. That terrace will only get you so far.

I went for a family meal with my wife and my 6 year old son. The view was amazing and they kindly offered a table outside instead of our inside booking. The staff also promptly turned on the heater as requested. However, the food is very average. It should be the centre piece but it feels like the kitchen feels the view can make up for inadequate food. The pulled pork burger was tasty but came with chips that weren’t hot and nothing else on the plate. I ordered summer greens and (for £4.50) got a bowl of undercooked and almost raw broccoli and overcooked peas. My wife had the “famous” veggie sausages. It looked like school dinners and was drowned in cheap tasting gravy. Having come out for a special occasion, it was hugely disappointing and we will not return, which is a shame as this could have become a regular. When we raised the issues with the waitress, she said she was grateful for the feedback and would pass it onto the kitchen as they have had complaints about undercooked veg recently. With greater focus and care it could be wonderful but it really isn’t at the moment.

The best thing about this place is the view, it really is amazing and if you can get a table without cigarette smoke being blown in your face then nothing can beat the view. Sadly this is where a lot of the good things about The Wiremill end. Most of the staff are clueless 6th formers and students that know little about how to interact with other humans. The food when it does (eventually) come out is Weatherspoons quality and London prices. The burgers are small and the portion size of chips stingey, its also not uncommon to have one dish bought out with the next following several minutes later. Its a crying shame as with a decent menu this place really could be going places and it must make money as both times we have been there its been packed, but the menu, the service, and the passive cigarette smoke would put my partner and I from going again

Outside the view of the lake is amazing! Inside is a lovely old pub. That’s the good news. The OK news is that the food is decent if overpriced. Pay for the view I guess. What we really didn’t like is we felt we were lied to. We ordered a pannacotta with jelly. It came out with just the jelly. We asked for it to be sent back and we were told they had run out of pannacotta. We think they had hoped we wouldn’t notice that the main bit of the pudding was missing. Attempted robbery. The young servers were all nice kids trying their best. But the wine was warm as well. The least you expect from a £20 bottle of rose is for it to be cold. It was in an ice bucket but that’s no use if it’s warm when it goes into the bucket. Even in Wetherspoons the wine is cold.Roast pork I had was great. But had to ask for the crackling and apple sauce to be brought. General view was the food was pretty good but too expensive and portions a bit small. Had to pay for extra roast potatoes.

The restaurant was excellent with a great view of the lake. The staff very efficient and courteous, and food served without having to wait too long, but after the lovely first course the main course was far from being hot. Such a shame to serve food below an acceptable temperature. I mentioned this to the waitress after we had eaten our meals who said she would let the Chef know. In hindsight we should have sent our food back. For reference both of our meals were different, one being the lamb, and one the fish of the day.

Lovely looking pub, inside and out. We were immediately impressed walking up to it and taking out seats in the outside area over looking the lake, however it was downhill from there… The food was ok - it was nice, but the portions were small. The beef patty in my burger was very small, and despite ordering the cheese and bacon burger, it didn’t have any bacon in. We’d already waited 1 hour and 20 mins for our food to arrive so I just wanted to get on with it and eat with everyone else. Customer service was awful, which isn’t surprising considering the manager didn’t seem to have a clue about customer service. When she asked how did we get on with our dinner, one of our party said “it could have done with a little more gravy (which came already poured on the food, not in an accompanying jug), but other than that the food was great.” The manager quipped in a sassy way; “well, you could have asked for some more.” Maybe don’t ask for feedback (that was politely given in a non critical way - he loved the food and said so!). We asked for the bill which was brought immediately - the quickest service we had all afternoon - but when we were ready to pay we had to say three times (waiting ages in between) that we were ready and wanting to pay so we could leave. We then went into the pub on the fourth time to request this. Eventually someone came out. This is all took about 30 mins, I’m sure others might have given up trying to pay by then! We weren’t the only people experiencing this. Many other people were at the bar chasing up their orders, their bills, etc and complaining about the slow service. The weird thing was it honestly wasn’t that busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff, so I’m not sure what the issue was. There’s been times where service has been similarly slow and you almost feel sorry for the staff as you can tell they’re overwhelmed but it didn’t feel like that today. Shame. It reminds me of some tourist traps I’ve been too on holiday - making use of an excellent location and relying on that to draw people in and not bothering with service or quality.

A really lovely location. Service was mixed. We asked for water on the table but it never came so had to ask again. Then it came twice!! We had to ask a few times for the bill. The girls were friendly and tried but maybe they need a bit of supervision. My sea bass was tasty but cold. Shame.I found it really hard to read the menu. It is all squashed together and in a hard to read font. We sat inside near an open window and there was a terrible smell of bad eggs. It made me feel sick. I mentioned it to the waitress but she looked blank.

The sun is up and covid situation a bit relax, so we decide to ho to local place for lunch. We came here before and had dinner, however its always dark or during winter. This summer time we want to have nice meal with nice view. This place always full and a bit difficult to get car park. Feel a bit strange as we no need to scan barcode for NHS apps when we arrive. Maybe becaus the next day our PM will lift the lockdown. Place are full. Glad we get a table for 2 hrs so we can have our late lunch.Love the vibe of this place. I can see the nice view, people play water board. Its nice to see while we enjoy our drinks and awaiting our meals.I love the virgin mojito. It was really good. Orange juice medium portion just too small, so next time will order big one. The chili beef also delicious. I guess the portion as appetizer is enough for my main meal. However I clear the plate My husband had caesar salad. It’s the best caesar salad i ever taste in UK. Dressing was perfect. Next time I will order it for my appetizer. My husband had lamb rump and he said it was ok. But it look good thou. However I am not really happy with my choice. I had Hake Supreme. Thought it will crunch roast, but it mostly taste as steam fish with strange taste of mashed potatoes and chili sauce. I couldnt finish it. Glad the dessert were good and I am soo happy with the ice cream. Chocolate brownie also very rich. My husband love it.Staff asked us to take the food from the tray. Keep the social distance, which is good. Really recommend this place. Especially summer time. And the staff are soo friendly and helpfull.

I have been going to the Wiremill inn for over 25 years through various owners and very different standards and quality of service & food.During the 90’s & 00’s the service, food and atmosphere was great. It was an extremely popular restaurant/Pub that got so busy orders were halted every other hour for kitchen to catch up or you were sometimes asked to share an outside table. The chalk board above the stairs had an amazing menu selection with a chef to deliver it!…but how things have changed and not for the better. My visit today shows the Wiremill is now all about the bottom line and customer service comes at the bottom.I had booked a table from 3pm to 5pm, but arrived late due to a traffic accident. Upon arrival I found my table had been given away. After querying how can that happen? Several excuses were made but ultimately the blame was put on me. I was told by the manager if I was late for train would I expect the train to wait! I could not but laugh at the comparison but realised customer service is most definitely not a priority and a reservation confirmation email does not guarantee you will have a table when you arrive.Even a local couple that live minutes away overheard my conversation with staff and said it’s not the old Wiremill inn and the reliance on young inexperienced staff means at quiet times service it not good. From a visit two weeks ago I was happy with food, though I thought prices were on the high side for the food being served. The service was wanting as it took 30 mins for my order to be taken, also one of my dishes had clearly been standing for a while before being brought to table. You cannot deny the location is very nice and if you are happy for that to compensate for poor service and food quality then you should be OK.

I booked a table ahead of turning up and would recommend that as this venue can get busy. Had a great spot on the terrace watching the local water ski club have fun on the water on a Sunday morning. Nice brunch menu with quite a few choices of meals but not too many. The service was a bit slow and we had to chase for our drinks but they did come eventually. Overall, nice team, food was nice and would go back. You can also stay here if you wish too.

We sat out outside which is lovely overlooking the lake. The serving staff were well attentive and friendly however the food is well below par and was disappointing on our Father’s Day lunch.First of all we ordered a bottle of South African Shiraz from the very limited wine menu (a few wines were crossed off the wine list)…wine arrived and we poured, then realised it was an Australian Shiraz. We queried this and they said that the one we had ordered was out of stock. But we should have been told this beforehand.Food was all rather bland. We ordered bread & olives which turned up with our starters…surely these should arrive pre starter? My husband & brother had the burger and they were the tiniest burger we’d ever seen. They were like burger sliders!Husband had key lime pie for dessert which we all tasted and it was just bland and tasteless. The bill was £210 and my brother paid with 5 £50 notes. (They do add service charge)..we were then told they don’t give change! Obviously a Covid thing but we didn’t want to give a £40 tip for bland food.So we paid £200 cash and the rest on a card. So if you’re going to pay cash be aware they don’t give change.Such a shame the food is below standard.Just bland and boring. We would be back for the view and the waiting staff who were all lovely but will only return if the chef improves or they get a new chef!

This pub has so much promise, such a wonderful setting but really, really awful food... We started with a few drinks, all was going well! The menu looked fantastic so we thought why not let's give it a go. We ordered scallops to start and squid. As soon as we had ordered another staff member came up to us and abruptly asked what we had ordered which we found most unusual, she dumped some cutlery on our table which was one set short. When the food arrived the scallops were unbelievably overcooked and dry and both dishes were very underseasoned and bland! Our children's burgers were rather sadly thrown together on the plate also. We ended up sending back the starters and cancelling the rest of the food. In all fairness to the lady who was serving us she removed the food from our bill but we were promptly ushered out with a bill being brought to our table with a card machine. Our experience overall was not a good one, there is an awful smell which wafts over every so often, the staff are a little abrupt and inexperienced and the food is absolutely shocking (we have never had starters so bad that we have cancelled our mains before). We won't be returning I'm afraid.

With some lovely sunny weather we decided to drop by for a late lunch/early dinner and cocktails. We were surprised as there was no queue and got a lakeside seat - the setting couldn’t be better. Service was okay, and not anywhere near as bad as some other reviews. My daughter ordered the battered fish and chips, which looked good, but my wife ordered the hamburger, which was pleasant enough, but very small and without any salad garnish etc. Just a small bun, tiny and thin burger patty and few fries in a little metal pot. I ordered the avocado, strawberry, toasted walnut and rocket salad - which had so much promise but was not fresh and such a disappointment! The sliced avocado was brown on the edges, the rocket salad included several wilted soggy leaves, there were a few pieces of strawberry that had lost their color, become soggy (and one piece was slightly fizzy) and the walnut had obviously not been toasted. I sent the salad back straight away and was not charged for it. The Oreo cheesecake desert, that my daughter ordered, was mediocre - but sweet! While waiting for the bill I did notice an adjacent table kick up a quiet fuss as their chicken burger patties were dry, tough and parts were crispy/chewy and inedible. I was relieved that we weren’t the only ones to be sending food back to the kitchen. Such a pity as, while we were waiting for our food, we considered returning for our anniversary dinner later in the month BUT now we will just return for the view and drinks - perhaps with a plate of chips to share...

This was our first visit and I was amazed by the beautiful view we had of the lake from our table. The breakfast menu was varied and the food (when it eventually arrived) was tasty but a bit overpriced. My partner wanted some poached eggs on toast with smashed avocado. She was charged for an eggs benedict and had to pay extra for the avo, despite not having the other items you would have for an eggs benedict - it should have been cheaper not more expensive! That said, my full English was delicious and, while the service was slow, the staff were very pleasant. I think we will return at some point but unfortunately I won’t be considering this as an option for my friend’s hen do due to slow service.

Enjoyed a 10.00 am breakfast/brunch with a friend on a thursday morning. We were seated on a table on the edge of the beautiful lake. Service was good, sun was shining, food was on the whole pretty good. My friend had the french toast stack. Impressive stack of bacon, toast and egg beautifully presented. If we were being picky, the eggs were a little overcooked. I had the vegan breakfast. Lovely really tasty 'sausage' and a very satisfying meal before a 4.5 mile walk from the pub. The only disappointment was the avocado smash - way past its best. Mentioned it to the waitress who said she'd tell the chef. Coffee and tea cups could be a little morsel generous. However, the sun was out and the meal was, on the whole, very tasty. Both of us plan to return with family members. The beautiful setting is the real seller here though.

Amazingly stunning views, shame it was pouring with rain so couldn’t enjoy it fully. Food not so great, unfortunately. I would not recommend the French Toast meal as the eggs (2) were rock hard and bacon very fatty. We asked for sweeteners for our coffee and we were given 2 tablets in a lil glass - there were 3 of us and we were not asked how many sweeteners we would each like and would have been so much better to bring the sweetener container to us so we could see what brand was been used (some are sweeter than others and some leave an after taste in your mouth).I will however return just to enjoy the view on a clearer day.

After previous fantastic visits pre covid, we were excited to return to the wire mill. Unfortunately poor weather meant we missed the perk of sitting wkth there tranquil view being sat inside, as the location really is beautiful. Firstly, we were sat on the right next to the kitchen. If you go avoid this area. We kept getting this horrid sewage smell and then my partner spotted a septic tank right outside the window Other then the smell, things started ok. We were asked for our drink order the second we sat down and asked for another moment. First gaff came then when our drinks arrived. I asked specially for no ice (sensitive teeth) yet my drink arrived full of ice. No biggy but it’s the small touches isn’t it that build for a nice experience. We asked for it to be fixed and it was swiftly. Then food ordering. When we were given our menus when we arrived we weren’t told that the fish of the day, butchers block and braised beef were mysteriously sold out ( they were not exactly busy?). It wasn’t until we tried to order these things that the waiter kept coming back saying unavailable pick something else. Hmm this is usually the role of the waiter to inform customers of any specials and if anything is unavailable before ordering!Anyway we ordered our food. We ordered firstly a couple of nibbles. Hullumi fries and bread with oil. Fries were tasty but last time we came we got a lot of dipping sauce. This time is was a small smear. Bread was nice. Not enough balmasic with the oil. This was the highlight of the meal. On to mains. Fish and chips with “homemade” tartar sauce and fresh peas. Fish was oily, chips were clearly frozen chips oven cooked (very disappointing to receive in an expensive pub!) peas were basic and no homemade tartar sauce served or lemon. When my partner asked for it they brought sachets. Hardly home made! Again if they’ve run out why not say and bring the tartar sauce sachets without prompting when it’s stated as part of the meal??The veggie pie was poor. Undercooked broccoli (there is fresh al Dante, but these were barely warmed) over cooked carrots. The red wine ju was very watery basic gravy drowning the food. The pie was clearly a frozen pre prepared pie. Odd flavour combination with butter beans, tomato and squash with the gravy. The only nice bit was the mash which was creamy. The below average food with that smell of the septic tank was turning our stomachs a little by this point to be frank. I can only assume due to the bad chef that they weren’t doing the specials. During our meal our drinks were empty and no one ever asked us for another. Towards the end our waiter came to ask if everything was ok and we were honest and said we were pretty underwhelmed. He was a bit taken back and apologised. Another waiter came to ask again if everything was ok with the food (we were struggling to finish despite the not large portions) and again we said not great, quite disappointing. This time this waiter who seemed much more on it offered to take away our plates though not before checking if we wanted pudding (no thanks !) when he brought the bill we appreciated that service charge and one main had been removed (barely ate the pie as such an odd combo). We paid and left and shall avoid returning for a meal. Drinks and the view with maybe some nibbles if we came again but not wasting our money on their mains, and so unpleasant sat inside.

Beautiful setting if on a sunny day. Unfortunately it was extremely cold and wet when we went which marred it a bit. They have put a retractable awning over the outside area which will be useful with British weather. Food was good, servers friendly but quite a wait as very busy. The inside looked very comfortable as well. The seating outside is mainly wooden pews/benches which could do with some cushions but you felt safe from others as still lockdown. Certainly worth going for Sunday roasts as good size helpings and the meat was so tender. Lots of parking and as it’s very popular this is neededWe were entertained by waterskiing lessons on the lake whilst there. Must be lovely walks nearby.

We arrived promptly at 6:30 for my 60th Birthday meal, there was a couple in front of us waiting to be seated. I happened to notice there was another couple who had arrived from the seating area who were asking to pay but didn't give this much thought at the time. We were directed to a table and left menus. We didn't get a table overlooking the lake although some were empty, we were seated one row back. I thought "those must be for parties of 4" but the next 3 parties to arrive were given the prime tables although they were only couples. We spent the time looking at the wildlife on the lake and chatting, staff continued to pass our table but no-one stopped. We hadn't noticed how long we had been sitting until I checked my watch. We had been there for 40 MINUTES and nobody had come to our table to even ask about drinks! I was about to leave but my wife flagged down a passing server and asked if there was any chance of taking an order. The staff all seemed to be young students with nobody in charge. We ordered and the food and drinks arrived fairly quickly from that point. A table behind us clearly knew the drill and they ordered drinks as they received their menus. They did suffer the same delay problems when they wanted another drink and one of the party went inside and (I think) was served drinks at the bar breaking the COVID19 regulations. Meanwhile our starters arrived, we had ordered scallops. They were dry and over cooked. The choritzo on top was burnt to a crisp. The pea shoots and rocket on the plate were "limp"not fresh and crisp. Perhaps they had been under a heat lamp too long. Our mains were ok, I had the beef which was good and my wife ended up with a salad as she couldn't get a firm answer as to what the "catch of the day" was. "I think it's lobster" said the server, "The price? errr...I think it's £20?" Maybe go and check at this point or just admit that you don't actually know and find out!. Meanwhile the table opposite were trying to pay their bill. They had three attempts at getting somebody to bring a card reader. Another table was asking if they could order food. We asked for the bill and after a few minutes this arrived. We then waited for somebody with a card reader. After 5 minutes somebody else came and asked us if we were ready to pay...and after another 5 minutes somebody else asked the same thing! Eventually the person with the card reader arrived (I assume the restaurant only has one card reader for all the tables?). A "service charge" had automatically been added to the bill (WHAT SERVICE??) An attempt was made to overcharge us by £20 but we were paying attention "Oh, I thought that was an eight not a six" said the server as he surveyed the bill. An easy mistake to make? Not if you read some of the other reviews on here. It's mentioned in several reviews about errors with bills, another diner who was there on the same night noted that they were charged twice on the service charge. We hadn't been here for a number of years as there were problems last time. Sadly it appears that there are still problems and therefore we won't be returning anytime soon. The service is truly awful. Approach with caution!

I went with some friends and we had to complain twice about the food. Over several dishes the food was anything from cold, small portions and over cooked. After the second complaint we had a manager come to the table and said. That we would not have to pay any money but there is a no return policy, so we would be barred. I would urge anyone going here to reconsider, as not only the above complaints but also the fact that the food took ages to get to the table. I will certainly not be going back to this place.

It was a trip down memory lane for me today as not visited for over 15 years.Unfortunately the weather was extremely windy, however we had a great view of the lake. Most of your staff were working extremely hard, however we had table 61 and my receipt has the server name as Caren. I am wondering whether she was a new member of staff as her knowledge of drinks and food was quite limited. I was driving as it was my husbands birthday and I wanted a non alcoholic drink, there wasn’t any drinks menu so I asked for something Elderflower or Lemon, however she checked and advised you didn’t do either, so I suggested something raspberry or perhaps a J20 drink. Again she said you didn’t have either of these and only offered me orange or apple juice. Caren had a scrap of paper with information about beers in her pocket and nothing about other drinks. Our drinks didn’t arrive and I asked a different member of staff as to the whereabouts of our drinks, she went inside and came back immediately with our drinks, I gather that my husband’s beer had been poured and my juice were just sitting on the bar.Caren didn’t have any knowledge about the burgers either when I enquired about adding cheese etc. She moaned she was cold and just wondered around, where you other girls were clearing tables and checking with guests seated in other areas Caren seemed non pulsed by it all. Maybe if she was training it might have been good to high light this at the beginning, although the burgers were great the overall experience left me feeling flat and uninspired, I am sorry to report. Therefore my trip down memory wasn’t as anticipated.

We live nearby and have avoided The Wiremill for several years due to appalling service on prior occasions. However we decided we would give it another go recently as are keen to support local businesses in the current environment. We have been three times over the last month but unfortunately nothing has changed. It is a great location, but the service is shocking. The staff simply seem dysfunctional; they stare at the floor to avoid eye contact, pretend to have not heard you, and serve customers in the complete wrong order. On all 3 occasions it took a minimum of 30 minutes after arrival to receive drinks. Our food arrived before the drinks in one instance. On our most recent visit the table of 4 next to us, who arrived at the same time as us, also had issues; they couldn't get anyone to take their order, to the extent a larger table coming in 20mins later which was the other side of them received their drinks and food before they had even managed to place their order. I appreciate it is challenging times for hospitality but these guys are beyond a joke. The food and drinks are good, albeit I think overpriced but you are paying for the unique location which is lovely. A tip is automatically added to the bill which is frankly outrageous. Needless to say we are done once and for all with The Wiremill.

I rang and spoke to a staff member who told me they will refund the money but they have still not contacted me to do this , I have since rang numerous times and left messages but no one has returned my calls. So all in all an expensive and disappointing afternoon out .

Booked a table for 8 o'clock. Main meal served at 9.45. Service was appalling no Manager apparent. No apology or explanation for delay. Asked for the bill at 10 had to go inside to pay at 10.15. A great birthday celebration ruined.

If you are expecting a modern and polished dining establishment , go elsewhere. This place is a true, timeless local pub. Sussex Best on tap and a merry environment that guarantees a good time for all. Would heartily recommend to those seeking a warm, rustic pub with cheerful service.

Returned to this lovely garden centre and was warmly welcomed into the restaurant,it was early lunchtime but there was a good buzz of others enjoying their food. There is a seasonal menu and wanting a fairly light lunch we opted for the mezze platter to share. The service is first class our waitress very friendly,we ordered a beer and glass of red wine to accompany the dish. The drinks and food arrived speedily and it was delicious, colourful, and beautifully presented. Our waitress returned to check everything was ok which of course it was.We had coffee afterwards then left.We were acknowledged by all the staff working there who cheerfully said Goodbye. This is a venue not to be missed,I noticed the lunch menu, they also do breakfast and whilst there at the weekend they were serving a beautiful afternoon tea to a group of ladies…I look forward to a return visit soon…Yours Stuart…
