The Wine Circle in Runnymede

Fabulous lunch. Cote de boeuf not on the menu but owners got in especially. Cooked to perfection. Service is always friendly and welcoming. A really wonderful experience guaranteed every time.

We chose to eat here based on a previous visit. The Wine Circle offers a no-frills atmosphere but has a certain class, which is strangely reminiscent of visiting a family home. The staff are exceptionally friendly and have a great sense of humour. The food exceeded all expectations and was beautifully cooked. I remarked to the host that you would not find better food anywhere! We both chose the duck and vegetables. The way that the roast vegetables are prepared and served here is exactly the way I aspire to cook mine at home. We chose the (very generous) cheeseboard for dessert which offered a large selection of different cheeses; it was also superb.

Four of us came for dinner here between Christmas and New Year. We had a lovely evening and a very nice meal. The staff were very knowledgeable and attentive. A couple of the dishes were unavailable which was a shame, but we were all very pleased with the items we chose as they were very well cooked, nicely presented and tasty. The wine was very good quality. The ambience of the restaurant was a little strange as there were so few people there, but it was beautifully decorated and the colour coordination of the Christmas tree and other decorations was lovely . We will definitely be returning

I recently visited the wine circle in Virginia water. I was extremely disappointed with the ambience and the lack of customer service delivered. The staff were uninterested, unapproachable and were merely tolerating my presence. I felt that the lady serving my drink (I think she was the manager) was not interested in my custom or my being there. The wine itself was reasonable, but significantly overpriced for a 175ml house wine. I wasn’t even acknowledged or thanked when the bill was paid. Merely reminded that they do not accept Amex. I won’t be revisiting which is a shame, as I am new to the area and hoped to find a local gem that I could share with my friends. What is deeply frustrating is that I doubt this review will affect or change their approach. Their arrogance and dismissive behaviour will mean that this review will not even be given the time of day.

Extremely unfriendly staff when trying to make a reservation. I have never found them particularly friendly, but I was quite shocked at how rude the lady on the phone was.

Fantastic food and friendly service. I can recommend this place for breakfast (you won't need lunch if you opt for the full English breakfast - very filling) and dinner (flavours in abundance). The wine is exceptionally good quality and reasonably priced. My recommendation though is to book in advance or you might not get in!

Nice coffee but awful service - unfriendly and snooty atmosphere! Made to feel very unwanted in there. Shabby exterior on a 70s parade of ugly shops. Nice inside but just so unfriendly!

Absolutely horrific experience, avoid at all costs. I can't echo enough the below reviews. This restaurant needs to update it's miserable, bitter waiting staff and replace them with some young, friendly, and dynamic people. As a country haven’t, we been through enough without having to endure such unkind, and unwelcoming behaviour. The owners were no better, so ill mannered. One would hope at their age they would know better. I have heard from many locals that they are rude. If you don’t fit the “bill” of the type of customer they want, then they will absolutely make it known to you. This restaurant/wine bar (whatever it is claiming to be) is not inclusive, it's narrow minded and bigoted. judging by below reviews, and my personal experience they need to put a sign on the door saying …. "white, middle-class, wealthy. over 50's only welcome here" It would save a lot of heartache for the many willing customers, that they make feel so desperately unwelcome. Wine Circle - If you are reading this, please accept these comments as constructive criticism. When you shake your head at a person and make them feel so unwelcome you really don’t know how your actions can affect a customer’s day, you don’t know what people are going through. In a world where you can be anything, please be kind, no matter who it may be. It would be worth also relaying this to your older waiting staff. There are far better (kinder) ways to deal with people. Avoid, avoid, avoid …. Unless of course you fit the criteria.

We hadn't visit The Wine Circle for a while, so took our (adult) kids and mother-in-law for lunch. 5 stars all the way! The hosts are lovely and welcoming and drinks were brought quickly. The menu is to die for - there is something for everyone. The sizzling prawns were popular and delicious. I had mushrooms - although top notch. My main of lamb cutlets was a show stopper. The wine list is fairly brief but interesting and very well chosen. There is also a set menu which was good value. We had some set menus and some a la carte. All in all, thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended!

Simply Brilliant- food was delicious, served with impeccable service. Their selection of wine is second to none. Loved the atmosphere, will definitely return.

Never again will I visit! From the moment we walked through the door, we felt we weren’t welcome. No usual staff greetings such as " hello" "can I help" or even a smile. Just a " sit here". We brought three under 3s who weren’t any more disruptive then most. We noticed a lot of eye rolling and stern looks our way from one particular waitress, who most certainly is in the wrong job! This particular member of staff continued to carry out this rude behaviour throughout our lunch. Constantly telling my nephew to shhh shhh shhhh, taking plates away before we’d finished etc etc. The whole experience was just dreadful, we all felt we were a nuisance, and couldn’t wait to eat and leave!!

We stopped on a Saturday, it was lunchtime but staff were really happy to just serve coffee and gave the impression nothing was too much trouble. Coffee was delicious.

I love the place. The ladies that run it are extremely nice. The food is excellent and the ambiance. I fully recommend it.

Popped in with a friend for a couple of beers. Ordered two bottles of Moretti (half-pints) so far so good. When the bill arrived I had to look twice!!! £13.90. Disgraceful & avoid at all costs. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!!!!!!!!

The rudest staff I’ve ever come across! In person they only spend time talking amongst themselves and treat with contempt then when we rang another day to reserve they said no room and hung up! Incredibly rude staff, avoid at all costs!!

Terrible attitude of the staff. It was as if we were a nuisance being at your restaurant. We were refused coffee at five past 10pm.

Fantastic food (we had the lamb cutlets and mushroom tortellone) and it was simply amazing. You also have a variety of excellent wines at your choice which becomes the whole meal quite pleasant. Staff is very friendly as well. A place to revisit again.

I really wanted to give the restaurant 5 stars and up until dessert, I would have done so. The restaurant interior is dated and could do with some updated furnishings but the quality of the food makes up for it. Everything we had was lovely. Unfortunately, the speed of the service really let them down. We had to ask for the check 3 times in a span of 30 minutes and finally had to get up and approach the counter in order to pay. I hope this was an off day for them but, I will hesitate to return in future. Such a shame.

My wife and I visited recently with our daughter and it was lovely! Really great breakfast (the chef clearly takes pride in his food!), good coffee and the personal touch. To think we nearly went to the Costa 20 second walk away!!

The chef made special efforts to make vegan options although they were not part of the menu. The staff member who served us took great interest in suggesting this to the chef. It was a lovely experience. We will definitely visit again

The Wine Circle is a fabulous restaurant. The food is always delicious and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

The food is very good / bordering on excellent. The problem, and why we may not return anytime soon, is the ambience. Terrible acoustics, tables too close together/haphazard. Might be fine for large loud lunch parties, but not appropriate for tables of two at dinner.

A year after the first visit we decided to try it once again, as we had already planned since last occasion. Excellent food and service with a great selection of wines!. I highly recommend this place!. Keep up! Congrats to the Chef and all the staff!!

Come here all the time for lunch or breakfast, but this week decided to pop in for dinner with friends and it certainly didn't disappoint. It is a really lovely restaurant with fantastic food of extremely high quality. You are always welcomed like long lost friends and made to feel very welcome. A hidden gem in Virginia Water.

Lovely family-run restaurant which is perfect for those who appreciate good wine and food. The service feels very personal and the staff know every dish inside out. The food is delicious and you can tell it's prepared freshly and lovingly. We had the chilli steak which I highly recommend. The owner knows his wines and we really valued his input on selecting wines to go with our food. We love this place and would definetly recommend.

I was not at all pleased with the attitude of the owners of this place.I was humiliated by the owners,simply by having brought in a Cup of costa tea,not realiisng that its against their high profile policy.They could just told me nicely that it’s against their rule.Upon entering the restaurant the Man (owner)told me to leave out my costa tea and I ask him why and he just said “nothing nothing and he mumbled unbelievable “so I thought it was okay.Then I followed my friends inside and the wife said,”ohhh no Costa coffee inside ,this is a wine circle restaurant “with her hands on her face.Why can they not just explain to us or say to me that”I’m sorry but it’s against our rule to bring another foods or drink in a nice way,or is it because I am an Asian?My spanish lady friend with me that day has a costa cup also with her and they did not say anything to her.

Lovely brunch again. 11 of us this time. 7 adults, 4 children. Table was ready when we arrived. Service was prompt and friendly staff. Food was enjoyed by everyone. It’s a great place for a quiet coffee or family get together. Not many places can fulfill both of these requirements. Definitely be returning

Never met such disgusting and disrespectful owners in my life! Drinks came 10 minutes late and ordered the smashed avocado sandwich and it finally came after 45 minutes of waiting to be then rushed out by the owners. If you want good service, do not come here !!!

Walked in without giving any thought to the place before hand, and got greatly surprised... It seems more a winery, with great wines mainly from France, and at the beginning we thought it was mainly for snacks or wine tasting (what it is), but it actually is a restaurant. Great service and top food!!…. I had moules for starters and poussin as a main course....Delicious!! As good or even better than some good rests in France or any big city!!….Congrats to the owner (s) and the Chef!! Looking forward to go back!

Good food and large portions. The mushroom soup was so tasty and obviously home made with lovely fresh bread.

Great smashed avocado and poached eggs on toast plus a bottle of excellent (but expensive) ale. Nice staff and pleasant vibe with a wine shop that has a great selection to choose from. Nice to sit outside on a sunny day.

Very good food well prepared. Service was good apart from delays with drinks. Food came out a bit too quickly. The dining room is in need of redecorating, new furniture and some effort to create atmosphere like table cloths, candles and modern pictures or paintings on the walls. The wine boxes in the old speakers really doesn’t do it.

Very pleasant Father’s Day lunch. I eat all over the world with my job and am lucky to experience some fine dining and great steaks. For the UK and a relatively small unknown restaurant the quality of the steaks was beyond my expectations. Staff very pleasant and a nice Paulliac to boot. 3 fussy teenagers thoroughly enjoyed their food and the scallops my son had were “awesome”. Thank you very much.

If you don’t know which wine to buy your wife this is the place to go. The man that helped me certainly knows his wine and of course he picked out Just the right one. I highly recommend this place on this basis. The food looked good also and we will have to pop and try it soon.

Myself and my partner come here very frequently, sometimes not a for a few months but every time we come here it’s like we have never been away.. always greeted with warm smiles from the owners. The food is amazing - breakfast, lunch, dinner we have had it all. It’s the only place that have our favourite wines.. a selection of wines to tickle any wine lovers taste buds. For us this place is a hidden gem, filled with great food, fantastic and a real warmth with the staff. We love coming here and would recommend it to anyone

We have been coming to the Wine Circle for about 15 years - so it is quite literally a place that me and my sister grew up in. We have had many of our most special memories with the Wine Circle family by our side - from birthdays, to getting engaged, and all of the things in between, too.

I've visited the wine circle a number of times - I go back because for convenience (there are no other cafe's in Virginia water) not for the welcome! Twice the café has been closed when it was advertised as being open. The owners are not welcoming. The service is efficient but not friendly. They don't stock soya or alternative non-dairy milks and the menu doesn't have any vegan choices. Very disappointing.

I visit this place quite often at lunchtime and always have great service. Nice menu selection offering small snacks to a full meal.

Popped in late on a Sunday afternoon. Had coffee, walnut/honey pie & mini breakfast. The sausages are to die for. Very welcoming & polite service. Nothing too much trouble. Spoke to the owner Sonny - what a genuine pleasant man. Really enjoy visiting here.

Sonny and Chrissie run an eclectic, vibrant, friendly and wonderful place here. I loved it and would not hesitate to recommend it. The best. Gavi and cheese coupled with a wonderful warm friendly welcoming atmosphere - I was time constrained but I wish I could have had another hour or two! Will return! I chanced upon The Wine Circle as I exited the station looking for a quick lunch.

A very nice restaurant/deli which prides itself, rightly so, on very good customer service. I do like coming here for breakfast. Eggs benedict being a particular favourite. Great selection of deli products to take away too.

Fabulous and friendly and superb food and service! What's more I LOVE the owners who are very hands on and make sure everyone's happy! We had a really great evening and I'm a vegetarian and loved the food!! Thank you all so much and here is to our next visit!

We popped into The Wine Circle on Saturday for lunch. It was good to see the main entrance area had been updated to showcase the various wines and champagnes they sell - it gave a good first impression. The area where you eat could do with an update - the decor is tired looking. However, the professionalism, friendliness, and helpfulness of our waitress made up for that. She couldn't do enough to ensure we could find something vegan to eat. I ended up with a basic salad with avocado. They also made a dish, from their old menu for my mum which she appreciated. I would have given a higher rating had there been vegan options on the menu.

My reservation was for celebrating the birthday of an old and dear friend. The staff welcomed us in and seated us with care. After this was done the service slowed down and we had to wait a while to place our food order. The food, when it came to the table, was average and therefore somewhat disappointing. The lack of soft furnishings meant the noise level was quite considerable, so much so that holding a conversation comfortably was next to impossible. I had dined at The Wine Circle some years ago and liked it quite a lot. The experience this time was not good and as said, rather disappointing. Sadly, I doubt that I shall be returning.

I've loved the Wine Circle since it was Cafe Blu in Windsor and then here in VWater!! They have just moved from strength to strength and I am very happy that I live so near when I am back in the UK!

We live in Virginia water and the Wine Circle has never failed to impress us. Food is delicious,service is always very attentive and the wine list is great. Elegant and relax ed atmosphere.
