Stayed overnight on our way to airport. Looked after by a very friendly mother and daughter combination. Our deluxe room was large and clean. Bed was comfy. The TV needed to be tuned to channels every time it was used. There was no toilet roll holder so had to reach to the high shelf behind which was difficult. Take your our toiletries. Room 2 was above the bar which was nosy but nothing compared to the noise of cars and lorries on the main road which continued all night. Noise was also made worse by the constant stream of cars and lorries using the car park as a turning point with their headlights shining through the room. Food is very basic pub food. Breakfast is coffee and toast. We were told this was continental breakfast what a joke, 2 slices of toast and jam is NOT continental breakfast. We will not be returning.

Paul was absolutely fantastic, on a Sunday it is Carvery only. However the can only eat soup or soft food. Paul and the staff went out of there way to make me a spicey vegetable soup ( which was lovely) . The place is also a hotel and the atmosphere was so lovely. Kelly and Paul are the loveliest people and are willing to accommodate for their customers. We will defo come back here. My husband had the carvery and it did look delish. I then had the cheesecake it was to die for. Thankyou Paul and Kelly for your attentiveness. I really really appreciated it.

Any wonder this place gets any business. Used the car park and due to faulty pay machine, issued a fine. Unsuccessfully appealed (no shock there), for what was more than reasonable evidence - but no understanding. Furthermore, due to appealing there’s now no offer of a reduced fine. Whether the pub is independent of the car park, its association to it means it gets tarred with the same brush. These car parks are shameful. Taking money off people with genuine evidence. Shame on you!

This was a lovely little find and was only a 10 min taxi ride from where we wanted to go, so booked to stay 2 nights. Upon arrival, there were numerous signs around the car park and the pub reminding people to put the car reg in to avoid fines (Some previous reviews seemed to suggest nothing was visable.. these were wrong). and the male who welcomed us was very friendly. We asked if we could quickly change in our room and come down for food and drink and we were advised this wouldn't be an issue, and a table was already reserved for us when we came down a short while later. The food was pretty nice, 2 main meals, 2 sides, and a few drinks each set us back a total of £40 which I thought was good value. Now to the rooms... They were comfortable and clean, but sadly one downside... If in a room next to the main road, you might struggle to sleep, especially if you are a light sleerper. Myself and my wife personally didn't have many issues, but it was at times loud. Maybe sound proofing and double glazed could maybe be looked at, although, for an oldish building, the retro windows were decent. The staff were helpful when I had questions and were friendly. All in all, a very decent stay. Thank you!

Stopped to take an emergency telephone call to avoid distraction in the motorway - ended up with £60 fine. The signs albeit BPA approved (I use the term loosely) are placed 7’ high and not in the drivers line of sight. As others mention you don’t expect to pay at a country pub with no other attractions around. I wouldn’t bother appealing as it’s clear that POPLA are in bed with the parking company. My defence that a newly installed gate banner was not in place when I visited because my photos weren’t date stamped were dismissed. Judging by the reviews on food and service too, it appears the ethics and morals of all associated with The Windmill are as low as you can ever get -PLEASE AVOID !!!!!!!!!

Visited this pub on a Sunday afternoon 4 weeks later received a parking fine from Private Eye. Looking on here seems I’m not alone. I can’t believe it never heard before that a pub car park is private land. Pub not interested but I think going by the amount of people who are being fined and leaving negative reviews this will change - unless they make more money from the fines ?I won’t be going again - given1 star because I had too

Firstly a Mickey Mouse landlord/lease arrangement whereby you have to ensure you enter your ref details into a screen to minimise a parking charge. I see others have still been charged... therefore if you decided to visit pay by card/keep receipts of evidence.

My huband popped in to the pub for a quick drink on Good Friday bank holiday. This was the first time he had visited this pub and did not realise that their was a parking charge for a pub carpark! He was only there for 15 minutes and now we have a £60 fine to pay. This was the first and last tiime we will go to this pub. We will never recommend the Windmill Pub to our family and friends. I would recommend other visitors boycott this pub as it is underhand. There are many lovely pubs in Knutsford and the surrounding area so I would suggest eating and drinking at one of those.

Popped in for a quick drink, 10 days later parking fine for £60, it is unreasonable and exploitation. This shoddy underhanded methodology of deriving income is immoral but legally permitted. The only way this venue will learn is by customers boycotting and all people caught by this parking scam to leave a negative review and trash their reputation, which looking at recent reviews appears on self destruct- there are better ways to manage parking than exploit genuine customers. We shall never go again for withdrawing ones custom is the greatest protest one can make.

We stopped here on the 31st March this year in order to meet up with my two sons for lunch on our way from Scotland to the Cotswolds. I was asked to go to a machine on the counter as we came in and log in our car numbers. A week or so after arriving home I received a letter from Smart Parking with a parking charge of £60. It would appear that I had made a mistake while inserting my car number. I did appeal this charge and sent them a copy of my bil to prove that I was there for lunch. This was to no avail. The meal however was excellent but be aware about the parking and make sure you don’t make a mistake when inserting your car number. Seems unfair to me.

On our way back home called into Windmill as I had been a few years before when it had just been refurbished. On arrival the smell of burnt cooking oil should have been an indication of what to expect, when we did go in the place was very dark. Told by staff to find a table and come back to the bar to order of which we did. Order of food was taken along with drink order one tea and a bottle of bud this was served in a dirty half pint carling glass that looked like it was well passed its best graphics on glass worn off. When the meal arrived it looked like the kitchen staff must have dropped the food onto the plate from a great height I say kitchen staff because I cannot believe a chef would have sent this meal out. Chips were burnt and hard in the middle smoked salmon looked like a thick piece of boiled ham, salad smelt like it had been in the plastic bag it must of come in was well past its sell by date, salt and pepper on the table were dirty full of hard old food around the tops. Tea arrived after the meal was served and was so strong it must have been made when we ordered the food and left on the bar and forgotten about. Fish on the sandwich was the only part of the meal that was ok the rest was a very poor. As to the pub itself who on earth put the green down lights behind the bar? The seats are stained with old beer or food, the front of the bar is battered about with the bar stools banging against them. Curtains missing or hanging off, tables sticky. If this a a managed pub the management should tack a couple of steps back and look in great detail on what they are doing. This pub must rely on passing trade as I cannot imagine on who would want to make it a regular stop off.

It took 4 times of asking before the bed was made up and this was done at 21:00, by someone from the kitchen. No management at the premises when requested. Ordered breakfast for 8:00am finally arrived at 8:55. A cooked breakfast with tinned tomatoes, tinned bins, tinned mushrooms and an hour to prepare!! Food was very good and alternatives were offered when menu choice was not available. Near a busy road but noise was not overly intrusive in room. The only downside was the WiFi. It was possible to log into the network but signal strength was so weak it was impossible to browse. Given that this is an issue raised by other customers it would be appropriate if the inn were to act on customer feedback.

Love coming to the windmill. The childrens menu is fantastic value and never disappoints my tribe. It's great to have the kids eat a fresh wholesome meal rather than the take away junk at most other places. We sat outside on the benches due to the weather being so nice while the kids ate and I sampled the ice cold Guinness. So, we are staying at the ibis. After reading the reviews I was dubious about visiting the windmill. But after paying £10 each way in a taxi to the town...I thought it was worth a shot. The new Road layout isn't as bad as people seem to bang on about. Yes, you do have to cross the main roads around the roundabout, but there are crossings and if you have any sense about how to cross a road, you'll manage. I did, with a 6 year old on a bike.

We arrived at this restaurant around 5.30pm ahead of an event we were going to at Arley Hall. The pub was very quiet and not many diners. When we ordered our food we were told by the waitress there would be a 40 minute wait. We asked why as the place was literally deserted for diners and she said sorry but she was told to come and tell us that. As it turned out we only waited around 15 minutes which was fine but a strange how do you do. I think because there was not many people they were hoping you would spend more on drinks!! The food was the typical pub grub and decent portion size. There was nothing out of the ordinary. it was a beautiful evening but not much of an outside seating area and what was there faced directly onto the car park which was a pity.

We were a large family (13) turning up without booking. It was a bit quiet so not a problem. We ordered a lot of different mains & 1 starter we waited over an hour. Most of my family thought their meals were OK but nothing to write home about. My sisters starter they burnt the oil & masked the taste with lemon until the prawns tasted only of lemon no chilli. My haddock the batter was pale & barely cooked on the outside with the inside white & not cooked at all. The haddock was quite dark & not appealing, the chips & peas were good but I left most of my food How can they take over an hour to deliver food on a quiet night & under cook fish. They might have a large menu but it is over-priced for a basic menu. The staff were helpful & polite so 2 stars. Perhaps there is a reason why a Thursday warm & sunny evening is quiet.

The chips which accompanied 4 of the meals were soggy, looked unappealing and tasted revolting. I had fish cakes which were mainly wet potato, no flavour with a 'salad' which was a tiny bit of shredded lettuce. Our friend ordered the fish pie and had to search for the fish amid lots of mashed potato. Visited with my husband in the evening. The pub was very cosy with it being dark outside, and we were taken to table 18 (I think it was, nice table with a comfy seat in the window). The food itself was okay, very pricy for what it was really, but the standout factor was the noise that seemed to be coming from the kitchen. It can only be described as a party of hyenas, raucously laughing and shouting. I noticed the barman seemed to be in and out of the kitchen, chatting with the chef whilst the girl behind the bar was running the place. It was fairly quiet so I can understand wanting to pass the time, but it doesn’t look great to the customers when it looks as though no work is being done, and to be honest the place looked like it could have done with a hoover and a lick of paint!

This lovely public house is situated right on top of junction 19 of the M6, its location is perfect for leaving the Motorway for a break, something for lunch or even an evening meal. The food is absolutely fantastic. After leaving our youngest at Manchester University I needed to get Mum a drink as we were well aware the house was now empty and we both needed a drink. I suppose I was a bit down when we entered the pub and I asked for a pint of lager and lime, the young barman started pouring the lager without the lime in the glass, I asked him to put the lime in first, he replied "nah, its all right mate I will put it in at the end" . All you get when you first drink it is a mouth full of lime, its not nice. We sat over in the corner and looked at the menu, I had the egg and black pudding stack thing which was absolutely lovely, the good lady had the soup of the day which there was loads of. For Mains the good lady ordered the Cottage pie and I had the Steak and Ale suet pudding which was outstanding. We honestly could not eat another thing so we didn't have a desert. The young lady that served us was really lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I wished the lad had not come near the table because all he done was stare at me and me feel uneasy, he obviously didn't like me advising him on his bar skills but he forgot the golden rule...... the customer is always right.

Lovely pub/restaurant with huge evening menu choice. Much better option than Knutsford Services. Table service and fuller menu options apply after 5.00pm. Now a regular stop for us when travelling North to South to break up the journey.

I had my granddaughter visiting from Scotland and took her to the Windmill for a meal The place itself was dirty and there was a man brushing up whilst people were eating That's all he did apart from chatting to people at the bar There was one girl on the bar and she was taking food orders as well We had our starter which was ok and then had a long wait for our main meal When it came it was very plain and basic Needless to say we won't be making a return visit!!!

No me apresuraría a volver.

My family and I visited on a Sunday afternoon and I have to say this pub does the best roast dinner ever. Everything on my plate was cooked to perfection. The kids food was great too, plus they ate for free! The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive, they really couldn't do enough for us. The food is far superior to many of the pubs in the area and doesn't cost a fortune. We will definitely be returning soon, a very memorable roast dinner!

Myself and Partner visited the Windmill On Sunday 5th February, looking forward to a Delightful Carvery that was once served to be told look at the blackboard we only do Sunday Lunch. I ordered 2 bottles of water to be served tap warm water, no lemon and no ice. I was astonished to see how the standard of the pub had changed in recent months, it's nice to be greeted with a Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening etc with polite mannerism doesn't go Amis. The Bar Tender said he had only been their 3 weeks he clearly needs training on good Customer Service Inhouse Hospitality to be able to strive In Business.

My wife and I had been out driving in Cheshire and wanted somewhere to eat. We've eaten here a couple of times before and enjoyed good food. Just off the M6 at Junction 19, this is a great place to stop off to break a journey. There is a varied menu, the surroundings are good and the staff are helpful. The food was nicely presented, tasty and enjoyable. We notice that its a restaurant with rooms and, since its about 90 minutes from home, its too far for an evening out but would be great to stay overnight after a meal.

Called in 27th December 13.00pm ordered for myself 11 year old Son 7 year old Daughter. 2 Adult meals and 1 free kids meal for my Daughter The Kids meal is a REALLY SMALL PORTION more suited for much younger child. 2 small chicken strips about several chips & large bowl of pea`s I was really shocked at the portion being honest my Daughter ate it all and some of mine as well left me hungry no one came to ask if everything was ok during the meal otherwise I would have paid for a better size portion more in line for a 7 year old, yes I know its free but its SO SMALL its just not worth having for my Daughters age & upwards

8 of us dined here Friday at 7pm - without wasting my time on all the faults. The food was mediocre, the hosting from the staff was appalling, never been to dine at a place where it felt like we were inconveniencing them by being there! Not a single smile from any of the staff towards us. The place was completely dead considering it was the weekend before Christmas on a Friday so I think that speaks volumes of the welcome you will receive here.

This is a great stop off at Junction 19 on M6. Such a pleasant alternative to a service station. Extensive menu with something for everyone. Very relaxed ambience. We like the fact that you can just turn up and there is always a table available. A regular option for us when travelling south down M6.

We ate here quite late after driving from Holyhead after we arrived by ferry from Dublin. We received a warm welcome and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The four of us enjoyed our meal. The waitress showed us their rooms, however, unfortuantely for us we were booked into the Ibis which turned out to terrible. Cold showerm sticky floors, hard beds and no tea or coffee making facility. If you are looking for meals adn accommodation in the area try the Windmill Inn.

Booked one night for its location. Our Room (Nr3) was modern, clean and well furnished with all the expected facilities but no shower gel so bring your own. Loads of hot water and soft fluffy towels. However the room was at the front and did suffer from road noise although a fan was provided to move the air around as opening the window was too noisy; would ask for a rear facing room next time. Had evening dinner in the restaurant; food and service were good and my wife said her Hunter's chicken was the best she had ever had. Breakfast was nice and prepared to order. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and polite. We queried the non supply of shower gel, and were told that it was not supplied. In the morning, a member of staff expressed surprise at this.It is noisy at night time being so close to the motorway. However we recommend asking for a rear facing room to alleviate this and the additional noise from local boy racers.

Food has got expensive, on the website states paninis £7.75, when the actual price in the cafe is over £10. We had 2 paninis and a pot of tea, the bill came to over £27. We use the cafe on a regular basis, but will be giving it a miss from now.

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!
