The Willow Grove in Sefton

Food and staff good. Pub was overcrowded with extra chairs and tables meaning people couldn’t get into the seats of the empty tables as they were blocked by the people sitting behind them. Wetherspoons Southport looked dirty and unkempt, all 3 coffee machines didn’t work. The staff were polite efficient and pleasant and keep the place ticking over. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t go again. The owner makes lots of money and is treating his customers poorly . Outside the tables area was littered with stub ends of cigs why is he allowed to keep tables on the grass verges now covid is over?

It is essential that any premises offering general hospitality (Drinking&Eating) has some form of heating on in the winter months.We visited The Willow Grove and bought drinks and food and sat down.There was no heating on so we ended up putting our outdoor coats on.In future we will not frequent The Willow Grove in the winter months unless there is heating on.We will look for somewhere that wants it's guests to be comfortable and warm when spending money on their premises. Absolutely perishing, we go here twice a week… won’t be going back anytime soon. Ridiculous that everyone was sat in coats, hats and scarfs

Absolutley awfull. Freezing cold. No heating. Chips soggy. Dirty filthy disabled toilet. Would never return here again. Staff said heating was broken according to staff. Never again.

I love a Weatherspoons and I usually go to this one every week or two. Over time though it has been going downhill. The food is still good for the money but many other aspects are letting it down. The portions have got smaller, less chips with the meals and if you request 12 onion rings you will get 9 or 10 and if you request 6 you will get 5. We really like the onion rings and order them most weeks and it has happened for at least the last five months. They are frequently understaffed meaning that when they are busy you can go upstairs and find dirty plates on every table that doesn’t have customers meaning we have to clear the table ourselves. The ladies toilets are in desperate need of improvement as two doors don’t lock and 5 have seats that need fixing. The staff there are great but they are overworked due to understaffing particularly on a Saturday and in the upstairs area.

Just because you have some young people eat at your place doesn't mean you can treat them with contempt. They are paying customers at the end of the day! My daughters and a few friends called in this evening and all ordered a meal. My daughter was brought two of the same meal and obviously told the male member of staff she'd only ordered one (she didn't get his name as he wasn't wearing a badge). He plonked the food down, rolled his eyes and said angrily "you'll have to eat it, I won't be taking it back". This is not how to speak to a paying customer, I don't care how old they are. She paid via the app and double the money was taken. She called me to ask what to do but I've told her we will sort it with the bank. I wish I'd asked her to get his name. He then brought another plate for my daughters friend and he told her the plate was hot (he held it with a towel) as he passed it to her in her hands, how strange! Yes it was too hot but thanks for not putting it on the table! I will be calling head office about this. The whole experience was humiliating for my daughter, she eats out quite a lot and knows how to speak respectfully to people. I know it's only a cheap place to eat but that doesn't mean the quality of customer service should be this bad. If your staff don't want to speak politely maybe they should be doing a job where they don't have to directly speak with paying customers.

Called in to have a meal with a friend and ended up staying a few hours on the excellent cask ales. Very reasonable and food is good, too.

Had a coffee and sat out side early during the day. Coffee was very nice. Visited the toilet on way out. Floor wet , tissues on floor. Came back at 1.30 for lunch. Opted for the scampi, wasnt too bad, peas not very good tasted very bland. Better half had pizza which was very good. Again visited toilets still in same condition floor wet and tissues on floor. The whole place looks like it could do with a really good clean. Don't think I will eat here again for a while.

As beer enthusiasts we visit when a specific beer shows on the App. 3 times we have turned up to find completely different beers on and were told 'oh that went 2 days ago". Sloppy management.

I run a pub myself and can take my hat off to your staff both doors being controlled. Track and trace, all rules followed by government guidelines. Staff all in PPE. I ate here and had a few drinks. Yes there is a little wait for a drink but you can see the staff are running around and doing there best. Thank you for my visit. I had a great time!! People just need to understand we are in the hardest industry for people to comply. There is a degree of common sense we have to hope our customers have.

Staff at the waterfront, were some of the most friendly I've had waiting on us..... Prompt, efficient, ambient, all round excellent staff, kitchen, waitress, front of house... We visited with our Granddaughters and went upstairs as the ambience downstairs was not suitable for children. Surroundings upstairs are comfortable. We ordered our food which was of decidedly average quality, the waitress forgot to bring the spare plate and cutlery for our youngest so she had to eat off my plate. I took her to the ladies where we were confronted by 2 staff trying to evict a drink woman and man from a toilet cubicle. It was only 5pm! Quite a scary experience and I would have hoped for at least an explanation or apology from staff but none was forthcoming. Needless to say we didn't go back..

We have been in self isolation since March and decided to have a few days away for a break.called in Saturday lunch time. The pub was so busy.thesanitizers were empty, table filthy asked to have it cleaned but told it already had been kids running around everywhere and no social distancing at all.decided against having any food as it didn't feel safe. Think they really need to get their act together seems like they are more bothered about keeping the money rolling in and not looking after people safety.

Really need to address the management. Not allowing 2 at the bar from the same party yes I agree but it seems there is one rule for one party and another rule for the others. This particular manager really takes his role seriously as the 'Hitler' of the pub. No excuse for rudeness especially at any time especially from management.

I sat outside with my dog. Everyone around was happy for me to sit with my dog and there was no signs on the table to say dogs not allowed apart from the assistance dog only sign as you go into the pub itself. Ordered our food and drinks to then be abruptly told we could not sit there. When we asked about signage he stated there was a sign on the table and pointed to a sticker which had the track and trace stuck over it so it wasn’t readable. I asked for a refund to then be informed i have to wait three working days for it. No apology for the lack of signs or inconvenience. I wouldn’t be so annoyed with them if they were consistent but they told me to leave and left two families sat with their dogs in the same area so clearly its when they feel like it! Will not be going back due to the rudeness and abrupt manner and also the clear discrimination against me when others were clearly permitted to stay.

My twin brother Stephen and I jumped the train down to Southport to visit some of the great pubs to be found in this seaside resort and one of the first pubs we visited was The Willow Grove Pub,a really good Wetherspoon pub.This is your type Wetherspoon pub ,the main room is dominated by a solid wood serving bar, great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this two floored pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling pub.We were here on a Friday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name, phone number or email address to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands and claimed ourselves an alcove ,we ordered a pepperoni pizza and as part of the meal deal we were entitlement to a beer each ,we chose Devils Backbone Brewing Co ipa, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back and chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My beer was excellent, a rich ,well balanced ipa bursting with taste, while sipping our beers our pizza meals arrived and what a treat. My pizza was really good, a lovely light crust,a more than generous topping, beautifully seasoned and served steaming hot ,coupled with our beers made for a great dining experience. We really enjoyed our pizza and beers in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Willow Grove Pub is easy to locate along Lord Street. Opening hours are;Monday to Sunday, 8am till Midnight. A great pub,well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Things worked out very nicely at the Willow Grove on a lovely summers day......the food and drinks were excellent, the staff were perfect in every way - which is how it should be......this is my first time in Southport and I enjoyed every minute of it.Ih you are in the area make a beeline for this place.

We came here for some food around 6pm on the Saturday afternoon. We managed to get a seat upstairs after a lovely over worked lass rang up stairs to check the availability. We got seated and after looking around how busy it was we decided on a drink only visit. The place was busy. Kids running around and a group of foul mouthed drunk lads in the corner so which we ordered our drink on the app which we waited 20minutes for which we then found on request it had gone to the wrong table as apparently i had ordered it wrong. There was one poor lass running up and down the stairs with drinks,so clearly under staffed for the amount of people dining and drinking. None of the tables were social distanced or blocked off. Personally we were glad to get out of there. Clearly Covid rules don't apply here

came for a dring the day they reopened and felt quiet safe we were greated and asked to give name and tel number and use the sanitiser, but now as things have settled down no one is making sure that you fill in the forms or go onto the app tables are left piled with unfinished food and drinks inside and out, you have to ask for a table to be cleared or cleaned, some just wipe over with a cloth others do use a spray from time to time. Smoking is not being kept in check outside. The owbers need to do better training and employ more staff to cope with the extra work load staff have to do so for those staff that are doing it well done but the company needs to get their training and resorces better

We called into The Willow Grove at lunch time and were able to sit outside. I was a bit disappointed to see that no one was overseeing the signing into the track and trace, however I was pleased to see social distancing was in place whilst in the serving queue.We had wanted to order a veggie breakfast but it was a tad too late and were advised to order the veggie brunch instead. The food duly arrived and, do you know what, it was average. The fried eggs, the beans and the sausages were clearly left over from breakfast and had been hanging around for quite some time, with the eggs in particular looking cracked and dry. On a positive the chips were good, as was the coffee.I didn’t finish my meal. The food was cheap, but if you’re looking to enjoy your food go elsewhere.

A good Wetherspoons experience overall. we always enjoy visiting when we have a trip out to Southport. Staff are always busy and efficient,food service speedy and well presented. Special mention of Helen who works on the bar, Her customer service is excellent and she is cheerful and helpful to other staff members.She ensure a good atmosphere and a nice welcome for customers.

Hand sanitiser was empty at the front door so nobody was using it. Two Lagers had run out. Coffee machine wasnt working (both of them) so had to ask as we had paid for the cups already at the bar. Staff not that friendly and seemed fed up. we had one drink and left as nobody liked the place.

I visited on my weekend break in southport,considering all the new rules with the covid 19 that should be in place, I was shocked to find the cleanliness worse then ever, over a 2 day period there was no hand soap in that time, toilets where filthy and not to mention the tables, actually had to clean it myself,and still came home with green elbows off the tables

We called in Willow Grove southport on Sunday 9/8/20, first of all on arrival empty sanitiser machine was empty.The bar was busy with no social distances at all, everyone was wanting to be served at the bar.Required to go to the ladies toilets, people passing on stairs not even bothering to keep their distance or respect others.Arrived almost to toilets when men coming out of their toilets was not even looking before bumping in people.No tables being cleaned when people left, children running riot all over the place.this is a no no place for keeping safe, needs inspecting as soon as possible as this place could cause a spike in SouthportWe left

Tonight we went to this weatherspoons my partner waited about half hour to be served to be told we couldn't order for half an hour so my partner said can we pay now and wait as didn't understand the bar staff said no come back and order so we walked to the other weatherspoons which seemed busier and were welcomed in told were to sit the tables went clean but we understand that so moved the stuff saw staff cloth and spray so cleaned myself not a problem to me at all as my child may have smashed something anyway food was good there fast service considering and enjoy ur evening as we left so thanks I understand it must be hard with the half price offers but we my partner wish he would of been told instead of waiting all this time thanks

Took ages too somewhere that did Baked Potatos, finally, The Willow Grove, got table outside, very busy, order on the app, drink arrived within 2 minutes, meal was less than 10 minute wait, I also order a extra side salad, £1.50, and extra tuna 85p, I absolutely devoured the meal, felt really full, and at £7.05 all in, great value..highly recommend. see picture.

Saw this pub whilst walking with my wife, 15 year old son and pet dog. Four tables laid outside on the public pathway. No barriers segregating the tables from the pedestrians walking by. Sat down for lunch ordered on the app and no table numbers so put table one and told the wife that I would tell them inside. We were by exit doors for COVID-19 but regulars were coming out for a fag and then walking back in the exits. Went in and stopped a young waiter to advise over the table number order. He was very surly and just said you should have come in and ask. He stood right by me not adhering to 1m plus ruling. He then came outside and had a go about the dog being there as apparently Wetherspoons have a zero dog policy. I asked where the signage was he couldn’t show any. I used a technicality that my dog was lying down on the public pedestrian area, to which he replied we pay for this area. Again though no barriers defining this statement. Arcades in the town and cafes and shops much better service and Covid-19 procedures.

Came today with my girlfriend ordered on the app two meals with two drinks the food came promptly my food was cold my girlfriends was find our drinks didn't come until half way through our meal I asked for salt and sauce was told that I couldnt have any for my burger and chip so ended up leaving my food will never eat in the place again !!!!

The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is a dump but the food is really good. The cost is amazing value for money. I think they need more staff and plates are left on tables for hours. We have eaten here lots and will definitely return.

As a southport resident this place is normally good service, but the last 3-4 times have been shocking, what the hell has been going on with this place recently? Drinks turning up 20 - 30 mins (even when it’s NOT busy) and staff don’t seem to care only had ONE apology of one of the staff members the other night. My girlfriend went with our friend yesterday (6th March) first orders came out wrong at 12:25 and then had to wait 45 mins for a replacement burger which isn’t really on. This needs sorting used to be a good place to go, such a shame

Came here with my daughter for breakfast, and while it was very busy, the three people mentioned above were friendly and welcoming under pressure (Liam's first day,a credit to you). The vegetarian I had was really good value, daughter's veggie wrap lovely. Would recommend.

Wetherspoons are very much the muchness. We visited both Wetherspoons in Southport and this was definitely the better of them.Staff were very friendly, place was quite clean and clientele appeared to be slightly better than The Henry Segrave.Would return to this one next time

We thought we may struggle due to the late hour but a very friendly door supervisor outside Willow Grove invited us to eat there, so we did! 10.15 pm on a Saturday night and our food was served within 20 minutes of ordering. 4 good main courses and a bottle of wine for £40, no complaints whatsoever.Recommended

Called in for coffees and were served fairly quickly. Downstairs was very busy so had to go upstairs to find a table. There were a few but they had not been cleared and were full of plates and glasses. They were still there when we left. Apart from that the experience is typical Wetherspoons, good value and you know what you are getting,

Not too bad food although not particularly hot. More concerned about the homeless person who picked up a used cup and then helped himself to coffee. Staff served us twice but didn’t remove used glasses.

Staff wasnt very friendly, both coffee machines broke but where fixed very quick. Breakfast was same as usual. Not very clean. Staff where more interested in sorting their own breakfasts out. They did seem like they done quite a lot for the community in there and had a nice fire too

A large busy pub, but we had a party of 8 all meals were cooked to perfection, came out very quickly and extremely reasonably priced ! Excellent

Called in for lunch today, very disappointed. My wife and I use weather spoon pubs a lot all round the north west on our travels but I have to say this is a bad one. The wait for food was half an hour, when the food came my wife’s steak pudding looked and tasted like it had been reheated several times and the chips were tepid. My sausages were hot but the chips eggs and beans were cold, obviously they had been left out whilst the sausages were being cooked.

This is a Weathespoons Pub/Restaurant and certainly served us a good meal. We used this place on a Saturday evening after the Southport Air Show, so it was quite crowded but the service was very good and the food was excellent.

Staff very cheerful and friendly drinks cheap. We called in everyday after Xmas shopping few days in Southport.

Reasonable traditional breakfast the client I was with had porridge unfortunately it was as dry as a camels axx. He ate it thought. Had two refill coffees. In future a bit of milk in the porridge to stop it resembling brick mortar would enhance the experience.
