Food was really poor quality, no flavour, all frozen nasty cheap stuff. Left most of mine it was that bad. Shame as this place used to be packed out. On a positive - friendly staff behind the bar, chatty and sincere.

Myself and my partner have been here before and the food has always been great but when we last went it was something different, the food wasn't as nice as usual, we both ordered steak, both cooked medium, when they arrived my partners steak was medium, lovely and juicy, but as for mine it didn't look appetising to say the least, it was definitely not cooked medium, I would say it was more on the very overdone side. Did not enjoy.

I was a bit hesitant to suggest going to The Pageant with my family for a meal because of some negative feedback from others, some I believe maybe just passing on what they've been told without trying it for themselves. We weren't disappointed. Although quiet because we went early ( midday) the attention we received was excellent. The food was lovely, my partner and I had creamy garlic mushrooms and garlic bread, my partner gammon steak and my Father and I I New York chicken which was lovely a really good portion size, we didn't have to wait long for the food, the prices were very competitive, we wouldn't hesitate in going again

Having visited the Pageant earlier in the year we where slightly disappointed with the newly decorated pub. You could once see out of the Windows, but it would appear the floor has been dropped so there is hardly a view out the window unless your seven foot high. This week we revisited as the word from relatives was that a new manager had taken over. So we had a go. Still it's difficult to see out but it's the food we go there for.. Talking to the new manager he told me he had come from a Liverpool pub. Although there where not many punters eating we had a very nice couple of hours in the new Pageant. The food was a lot better and more affordable this time around. The manager was very friendly and one can only hope that he can make a success of the pub. After all Kew is a big estate, and plenty of potential punters. There was a sign outside quoting two meals fo £10.. Not sure what you could expect from these.Having ordered we had three very nice meals, mixed grill, and two steak meals. With all the trimmings. Reasonably priced and a good stocked bar. As I've said the manager deserves the public to come in and try local foods.

We went here last Monday for a family meal. What we didn't realise before we booked was that they were running on a condensed menu as they were changing ownership later in the week. Alice the waitress went out of her way to make sure we were not disappointed and let us swap and change things on the set menu. She is a real credit to the Pageant and I hope the next owners appreciate all she does in her aim to keep customers happy. The food was lovely (I had lamb shank), was fresh and hot and did not take very long to reach the table. It was half price night so that was a bonus and the whole bill was about £60 for 7 adults, 2 juniors and included starters, mains, wine and other drinks. In short we had a lovely time and we will be going back to see if the new owners can match the service and quality we enjoyed.

Visited The Pageant today December 7th 2015 for a Christmas lunch with my Mum. Well I just don't know where to start, Awful place, Can't be bothered staff, Hideous food. As soon as we entered this dive, it just went from bad to worse, the place was completely empty when we arrived(now I know why) and we were met by a miserable waitress who showed us to a table. Although the décor is quite pleasant due to a recent refurb there wasn't a Christmas decoration to be seen anywhere and no music, so the atmosphere was pretty grim. The waitress asked us what we wanted so we asked for the soup and sandwich and a pot of tea, she went off and then returned saying "we only have cauliflower soup" we said ok we'll have it and also ordered chicken club sandwich and home made chips, The waitress returned after 20 minutes with what I can only say looked like used toilet water! brown looking liquid with cream dripped on the top, I tasted it and my god it was the most rancid stuff I have ever been offered, it tasted like vinegar so bitter. By this time 2 other poor souls had arrived and were to having this disgusting offering, they also thought it was disgusting. I just refused to eat it, and I will add, i normally eat most things, also no chips just shrivelled up fries, and very dry and over cooked chicken and burnt bacon ciabatta, Awful,i honestly wouldn't give it to my dog, The tea arrived after the soup and that too was weak and tasteles i had to ask if they had sugar and was offered a sugar lump bowl full of broken sugar lumps and dirty finger prints all over the bowl (dirty) I could go on and on about this nasty experience but I will just say I will never set foot in that place again and will tell all my friends and family and anyone else who is even thinking about going there to just Stay Away or youll probably catch something horrible. I'm shocked .

My steak and home cut chips was fine not great but absolutely adequate, the starter of pate was fine, bit mean giving only two French toast, the sort that takes two bites and all gone, salad leaves fresh and delicious. The other meal started with Morecambe Bay shrimps and flatbread, again very small portion of flatbread but adequate - just. Unfortunately to me these smelled off so I didn't try, but partner ate them all - and had sickness and diahorrea for next two days ... oops.Would we go again NO way......Would I recommend it No, so looked great but food questionable .. With certain pubs closed recently near us the Pageant is now our local. The pub has changed hands a few times in the last few years, so this is the first visit to the present set up. As you walk in the door we noticed the new decor and set up. For anybody using this as their first visit they will see a very well decorated and laid out bar area. The tables nicely presented. Your met by a waiter who will help you find a table, but as the pub was empty, bar a few occupied tables. Having ordered drinks with the waiter at the table, we read the menus for our selection. The choice was quite good with puddings for a pound if you have a main. There was a good selection to choose from, we opted for the rump steak with chips mushroom and tomato. Gammon with two eggs, chips and a bit of salad. The third selection was a ham hock, with mash potato and green veg. All looking very nice on appearance and the taste was perfect. Although on reflection the ham hock was a rather bigger meal than we thought it would be, maybe something lighter at lunch time and save the hock to an evening time meal. Especially on an empty stomach. The service was excellent with the waiter enquiringly asking if we where enjoying our meal during the first few minutes. The fact that the place was very quiet due to lack of customers it felt as if a bit of background music may have helped. We thought the menu was slightly more expensive compared to other pubs we've visited lately, but it didn't put us off and the three of us agreed that another visit would be most welcome in the near future. It is a pity that the local neighbourhood doesn't visit the Pageant more often, as these good food outlets will close if there's no public participation.

Access for wheelchair users is round the far side of the pub from the car park. The door is a fire door and subsequently you have to ring the bell to be let in, except that the bell doesn't work and it was only because another customer saw us going round that he mentioned it to the staff. The disabled toilet was blocked with paper. To get to it you go through two push open doors - trouble is in getting back out. Pull open one door, move forward to pull open the other door and the first one closes behind you leaving you trapped between the two doors. It would have taken a lot of maneuvering to inch the doors open, but another customer came to use the toilet so held the door open for me. Luckily the meals were half price, but they were still the worst I have experienced in a long time. The ham hock was fairly tasteless, probably because the accompanying vegetables were so awful and soaked in what seemed to be vinegar that you couldn't smell or taste anything else. The mustard mash was too mustardy and tasted like packet mix mash. The lamb shank (supposedly slow cooked) was tough, very little gravy, dry tasting mash, and those vegetables again - eugh!

Since when is 'creamy mash' two over boiled potatoes squashed with a fork? Since the pageant is when. Poor portions, poor choice and a total waste of 50quid. Don't even get me started on the lamb shank (hard as dried camel dung). Never eating in there again. Anyone who likes this pubs food obviously can't cook or their taste buds died years ago. Probably from eating sub-par 'home made pub food'. Seriously, get a kebab when you get home. Or eat an old shoe. Whatever!!! Oh and the staff (female ones) just totally can't be bothered. The food was very good and was faultless to our taste, we had the mushroom soup which was spot on as were the shredded chicken bon bons for starters which arrived quickly and was more than enough. For main courses we had the chicken supreme which far exceeded expectation and the duck breast the only criticism with the duck dish was that the sauce would perhaps be best served on the side as there was a bit too much on the plate for my liking. The TV booth idea is modern and innovative and allows for an intimate experience whilst watching the football with good table spacing meaning you weren't sat immediately behind someone but not so far away that you felt isolated. Service was quick and efficient and there was a good amount of time in between each course. The décor could perhaps use with some warm lighting just to give it a more homely feel however I didn't feel this took anything in particular away from our over all experience. The 50% off main courses on a Monday meant for excellent value for the food and felt that it was far greater than the price I paid. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to family and friends and in particular on a Monday. Both members of waiting staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us, in particular assistant manager Daniel. My overall experience was an excellent one and I feel as though that reflected in the tip I gave and look forward already to my next visit.

Three of us arrived about 19:00 hrs on a Friday. Found a table easily and went to the bar to order drinks. Waited some 10 minutes to have menus given to us and were told that there was about a 20 minutes wait for food to be cooked as there was only one chef on duty. Had to ask for the menu of the day and then waited some 15 minutes for it to be given to us as "people were using them on other tables". Waited 15 minutes for somebody to take our order. So by now it had taken about 40 minutes for us to place our order. The estimated 20 minutes wait for the food to be cooked was a bit of a joke. After 40 minutes asked the waitress where our food was. "It will literally be the next meal to be served" we were told. Two more tables were served before our meals arrived after another 10 minutes. The strange thing was that there were not a lot of people dining there that evening. Heavens only knows how long it would have taken if the place was busy.Food was OK but nothing more.I'm certain I will never eat there again.

Visited here a few weeks ago and found the food choice a bit odd and expensive for a local pub. I chose a burger whilst my friend opted for minted lamb chops. My burger was home made but had too many onions in it and it tasted of mint as if it had been cooked with my friends chops. The portions were also small for the price. The children's menu wasn't appealing either. Won't be returning as I've been to the 2 nearest pubs to it recently and found the food cheaper yet better quality and more of it!

Must be the worst Sunday roast I have ever seen, all the veg was raw, the beef was mostly fat, and what food there was, they spread around the plate so it sort of looked like you had a bit of food, overall I wouldn't feed it to my dog.Would never go again disgusting.

Thursday Night is Steak Night!......2 Steaks and a Bottle of Wine for 19.95 GBP. We visited for Steak Night in May 2015, just at the start of the new menu promotion and we weren't disappointed. The decor in the new look Pageant is stylish with furnishings in greens with purples, very fresh but comfortable surroundings which are spacious with a bar area in the centre of the dining area. The staff are very friendly and provide a high level of customer service. The food was delicious with a tasty seasoned steak, served with mushrooms, tomatoes with hand cooked chunky chips. We really enjoyed our meal which was a pleasant surprise and we'll definitely be visiting again very soon.

Not been to the Pageant for some time, but as it has recently been decorated and under new management, thought I would try it again. The staff were friendly and the décor was improved. Food we had was good, mine especially (the minted lamb chops) were well presented and delicious). My husband had the lamb burger which he said was fine, but a little over priced for what was only a burger. Not many people in the restaurant (lunch time) on a Saturday, but well worth a visit again in the future.

We have have had two meals at the Pageant this month and we are pleased to find that the food was lovely and a little different from usual pub food, this is more like restaurant dining. We went one evening for the steak deal on a Thursday which is excellent value and the food was prepared just as we like it (rare steak, as requested).

Ignore other peoples reviews about the staff and food . The staff were lovelly as was the food and we will be back . The main issue we had this evening was we were not told about a wait for food it was very busy and looked understaffed but usually places will let you know that there is a wait on food we waited 45 mins after being seated for our order to be taken ( 20 mins ) and are starters to come out ( 25 mins ) other than this and not recieving a check back on r food the visit was lovelly and we will return

Clean and smart inside, lovely waiters, oscar was particularly helpful and polite. They had some good deals on too. Ate here on a Saturday evening with the wife and our daughters. Staff were friendly and polite, food was good and reasonable value for what was provided and the service was good. We had a 'living social' voucher so the overall cost of the meal was heavily discounted and unlike some other establishments they did not impose restrictions on what we could order. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily return. The refit and refurb was long overdue and has been done to a good standard - it is now modern and clean inside.

Don't know where some of these reviewers are coming from, last night was my 2nd visit here, and on each occasion I was wholly satisfied with the food (steak was cooked to perfection) and the service was exemplary. Sophie was our waitress, she was extremely pleasant, courteous and professional, a shining example to all. To add to this, it was a nice ambience, and I for one, believe this place to be a vast improvement on the old Pageant, and I look forward to returning in the near future.

Pleasantly surprised by the new look Pageant. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by smiling bar staff. Visited a few weeks ago for Sunday lunch. Service was very attentive, polite and always with a smile which was very different to the last time we visited when it had just been reopened after the previous landlord closing after many years (when it was also very good). The previous time we visited, we presume under different landlords, it had looked like it had been hastily redecorated and looked very bare and uninvitiing, with poor staff and food. However, it has now been totally refurbished to a high standard and looks really good, with a modern feel to it. The food was very good and well presented, served by polite and friendly staff. We will definitely be visiting again.

I had a lovely lunch at The Pageant yesterday. I ordered the Halloumi Stack- it was beautifully presented on a slate and tasted delicious. I can't wait to go back and order it again! My mum had the salmon fillet with new potatoes and kale and chive sauce; it was also well presented and tasty. The pub has just been refurbished; the neutral décor is tasteful and modern, a huge improvement on the way it was prior to the refit. There are lots of interesting photos of Southport in the past on the walls, too. Motown hits were playing in the background; a huge plus for me, but not too loud to bother people with other tastes! Service was at your table, which was a pleasant change from queuing at the bar. The waiter was pleasant and friendly. The service isn't too fast; but the food was definitely worth the wait. The only negative is the outside area; there were empty glasses still on the tables. We nearly walked away after this first impression- but I'm glad we didn't!

Quite surprised at some of the negative comments about the staff. The staff on the night we came were friendly, helpful, courteous and gave opinions about which desert to go for. The decor might not be to everyone's tastes, but its clean, modern and new. The menu offers some traditional choices and some new and modern dishes. I went for the sticky chicken with fries, which was tasty and enjoyable. The fish and chips looked good too. Thoroughly enjoyed my sticky toffee pudding. Well cooked and tasty food and not too expensive. We will return and recommend to our friends.

They have recently redecorated the Pageant in Kew,Southport, the decor is dire and horrible, the walls are now in battleship grey, all the beams had little saying on them, they have now gone,as they have painted over them, and there is now a smaller bar area, looks completely different to how it used to be,but has been done to a decor that is not very pleasing to look at,they should have left the design how it was,and just redecorated the walls with a better colour, and left the beams as they were,or even had the wording replace over the now white painted beams.

We are locals to this pub and decided to visit for some Sunday lunch (8/3/15) since we had heard some good reviews from friends. First impression when walking through the doors was WOW what a difference, it was a huge improvement on the old layout, the décor is modern and still has a homely feel. We were swiftly shown to our table and asked if we wanted any drinks, this is an improvement from the old set up as you had to go to the bar for service and is a welcome change. The choice of meals is varied and you have an option of a set menu either two or three courses, we opted for the al a carte menu. The food arrived within about 15-20 minutes which shows it was freshly cooked it was nicely presented and it was delicious, local produce was also used. The sweet was also piping hot and well presented, the staff were very attentive and pleasant. We will certainly be returning in the near future, well done to the landlord and staff.

All I can say is this place is outstanding in every possible way. There is nothing but positive things to say about the Pageant. When I visited the place was very busy which is always a good sign for any quality restaurant. We where made aware of any short waiting times for the food.I am a local person on the estate and I went with my wife. The new refurb is nothing short of genius. The decor is beautiful and makes you want to stay there. The staff are all different ages, they all seemed experienced and sprightly. Coming over straight away to assist us. I loved the idea of table service, so we did not need to go the bar at any time. They couldnt do enough to help us.The menu is great and caters for all. As we will be bringing out family here. I ordered the lamb shank and it was truly sensational, along with a cheeky pudding which was also very tastey. My wife ordered the fish and chips and it was better than any she had tasted. The food you can tell is good quality, homemade and they have great chefs. Well worth any short wait, as you cant rush perfection. The entertainment on this Friday evening, was really good a male solo singer playing the guitar. What a talented guy, it was music to my ears. I love the new Pageant. I will be a continual regular here. As the prices are good and the place, people, food is outstanding. Keep up the good work guys.

After being really excited to re visit the new Pageant pub.... I have to say I was sadly disappointed! The re-furb is lovely, current and up to date. However.... My first disappointment was the menu. Although it's nice to have an upmarket choice, it would have also been nice at lunch to be able to have wraps and sandwiches. The service was poor due to the staff they have employed being fairly young and what seemed very in experienced (couldn't pull a pint and we're not experienced enough to deal with people) We had to get up to ask where we ordered as we waited for a while and no one came. We had to wait 40 minutes for the food to come. When they brought the food out the waitress didn't know what meal it was. I would expect the staff to be fully up skilled on the menu. My little girls meal should have had peas, when I asked she said she'd bring them out in a bowl and they never came. We weren't offered any sauces, no one came and asked if everything was ok. We weren't offered a dessert menu or coffees. I had to get up again to ask for the bill and then no one came to take the money so we had to go up again. When I said the peas never came, the girl said she knock a bit of the bill which she never did.... At that point I just wanted to get out. On top of all that... There was no baby changing facilities. So for a Tue not great.... I dread to think what it would be like on a weekend! Great decor.... Ok food..... Poor service. The expectation is high on the local estate after the previous managers Phil and Jane. I'm disappointed to say that I will not be going back.

This is not your ordinary pub grub it is pure quality. The prices are very reasonable and you get great value for money. The 2 owners are lovely and hospitable people. I went to order drinks more drinks and waiting at the bar I notice the glass wash machine. a tray filled with cutlery inside and thick white slime all around the door and cage containing newly washed cutlery. I am in the hospitality business and that machine has not been cleaned in a while yes you do need chemicals the right chemicals to clean glass wear in a glass wear machine but the machine still needs a elbow grease clean. you never ever put cutlery in a glass washing machine its contaminating each other by this point the barman says do I want ice in my drink no thank you as I dread to think how long it has been since the ice machine has been cleaned out. took my daughter to the toilet and the ladies carpet has been lifted up. fine for change etc but leaving carpet teeth grips still exposed what if my daughter was to fall and to land on them????? the toilet seats don't even sit on the loo you sit on an angle. very concerned. husband never finished his pint he said his glass smelt funny and the lager tasted very strange. we did not have dessert as well dread to think if I ordered crumble how much I would eat before discovering something else. I will gladly help this place if management need help and teach all basics and how to make the place welcoming. food a success and place packed out. please get in touch. do appreciate food bill was cheap but that's because my mains was unworthy to be charged.

Living round the corner, we thought we would call in and see how the reopened pub looked after it's multi million pound investment.Uninviting, shabby, tired, cold, and generally tatty is the answer - it is, as has been said previously, a shadow of its former self.So now we are inside the pub, I thought getting a drink would be simple. After all, apart from the young kids by the door, there are few people waiting by the bar. Infact, only me and my wife were waiting to bed served. The landlord and I presume his partner were right by the till, engrossed in a big receipt or something. The lady saw me...I asked for a pint and a pint of coke....she went back to the receipt.I continued to wait for about 3 minutes (still only me at the bar) until another lady appeared from the kitchen and then came to serve the man who just walked in! Then without further ado, simply snapped "what do you want" and throughout the rest of the transaction, that was the full amount of the conversation.Going back for a second time sealed my decision to not return. The landlord saw me at the bar (again only me waiting to be served) and promptly went back to something more important on his phone. It seems that unless things change dramatically and very soon, the pageant will be closed in April 2015 too. Very, very, sad.

Food and staff good. Pub was overcrowded with extra chairs and tables meaning people couldn’t get into the seats of the empty tables as they were blocked by the people sitting behind them. Wetherspoons Southport looked dirty and unkempt, all 3 coffee machines didn’t work. The staff were polite efficient and pleasant and keep the place ticking over. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t go again. The owner makes lots of money and is treating his customers poorly . I had been xmas shopping and finished the afternoon off at the pub for our evening meal with my family, we had Kim for our server l thought she was refreshingly friendly , helpful and eager to accomodate in the respect of making sure our small child had a high chair available to use. She pointed out early on that the pub restaurant would be closing early so that we had plenty of time to order our food. I asked Kim did she reccomend anything and she suggested the Lamb kofta wrap , which was very nice and I will have it again. We had excellent service from everyone on the night including Jill, Jack and Ant. I have only recently started going to the Bakers Dozen and I will return as it is so handy and a warm comfortable relaxed pub to be in, a good family pub. Thankyou to the staff on the night.
