The food is very good and there is a varied choice on the menu. It is only a stone's throw from the train station and is very popular. If you want a meal it is a good idea to book. Very good for a family get together.

On /9/5/18 I went in this pub/restaurant with my partner and order two three course meals and it was good apart from missing things such as the salad with the garlic mushrooms and I ordered an icecream was okay, but could of been more of an effort, I would of though there would of been wafers on top with sauce, which I had to ask for some strawberry sauce. I thought the meal was plain and no effort went into it.salads, wafers and sauces are not expensiv, but there was a lack of things that could be improved.

The staff are friendly here and there's a mix of locals and dinner crowds and workers and young and old. It's always full at dinner times. There's an outdoor but and plenty of parking. It's local and inviting.

We have never eaten here but have stopped for a pint on the odd occasion . In contrast to most of the other pubs in the Ainsdale/Formby area this is not one that specialises in real ales and as such the beer is a little less expensive here than in most of the other pubs in the same area.

i visited the said establishment to view football. only to be told that they don,t show any 3.00 pm kick offs which was disappointing, why have all these tv,s if you are not showing any football at that time some people cannot get in the week to see late kick offs. so i suggest that you get something organised to satisfy all clients.not just the few.

This is a very nice ,comfortable pub in an ideal spot, right next to the station, leave the car at home and enjoy a pint with your meal. The service is always prompt, although I've only ever visited at lunch time. The food is pub grub but has always been nicely presented and tasted good ,I've always cleared the plate, and they are very good value, there are very often offers 2 for 1 ,and things like that.Theres always been a nice mixture of customers and a friendly atmosphere.Highly recommended for a pleasant cheap lunch.

Three of us ate here early on a Saturday evening. It was quite busy although mainly with people enjoying drinks only at 6.15pm - the food came within 15 minutes of being ordered. All hot and ample portions - the half roast chicken was very good and the chicken filet burger was reasonably moist. Good choice of mains for between £6-10.

We haven't actually been inside the Railway for years. We have, however, watched from the restaurant opposite as a black BMW pulls up around the same time every Saturday and patrons from the pub come out to chat through the car's open window and hand the occupants money. Hmmm, wonder what that could be for? We also have a bet on what time the fight will start that evening. What used to be a lovely village pub turned into a nightmare when the pub on Sandbrook Road closed and all the scriptures migrated. Shame. Could be fantastic if only a landlord with vision and a firm hand would take over.

Again I am reviewing as a pub. This has been my local for more years than I can remember. Since being taken over it has gone from strength to strength, and f course now as they have got mild back on it makes everything near perfect. Jean and her staff are both welcoming and friendly, even though Jean does not have as good a taste in music as I do!!.

Been a few times since the refurb, for food rather than drinking, and the Railway is greatly improved compared to before. My Mum loves it, and it's a good place to feed hungry teenagers without breaking the bank. Good menu, the odd thing not available, but various offers too. Music was a bit loud where we were sitting on a Friday teatime, but we asked and it was turned down immediately. Friendly staff - not had a problem with service/timings in 3 visits in the last few months. The folk running the Railway these days deserve to do well.

On visiting after the refurb, I had high hopes for this place as I heard the food was brilliant. On entering the pub was booming with drinkers. Nevertheless we looked at the menu at sat down. We had to order drinks at the bar, which was a complete nightmare due to the noise, and the staff had to ask me several times what I wanted to order. I returned to our table t get our food orders, which again I had to go to the bar - despite other tables receiving table service!? This was yet another nightmare - the staff member this time suggested that we ought to hurry our food order as it was almost and they were stopping serving food at 4pm - as well as stopping serving coffees / hot drinks at 3pm - a bit odd if you ask me! I was not confident that our food order had gone through correctly as the staff member had to run through each meal individually for some reason.....I double checked my receipt and noted that there was mistakes, and made sure that they were rectified before I left the bar - as it was a complete nightmare to be served. Despite all this, I ordered a coffee with the drinks order previously, which still had not arrived - we had been here an hour at this point. I ask the blonde lady who was taking food and drinks orders from other tables where the coffee was. She had not bothered to make it and very rudely demanded the young lady to make it. Eventually the food arrives, they are huge portions for the prices and we couldn't eat all of it! The quality of the food was quite high, but the waiting, the service, staff and "puniness" of the railway has put me off. Well not go back in a hurry as this pub is more aimed at and catered for regular drinkers sadly, rather than young families/ groups who would like to eat.

A brilliant village pub with a vast array of draughts and bottled beers, also great real ales, so enough to suit everybody. Great atmosphere, great staff and gorgeous food, well done on a superb refurb, will definitely visit more often!

I am reviewing this as a pub rather than a restaurant. It has been closed for some time for a refurb. upon visiting on the last two Fridays its obvious they have not really listened to the loyal locals, unfortunately they are aiming at the younger drinkers ,they no longer serve Mild so in my case i am having to drink Guinness which is costing me more. The drinks they do have are aimed in my view more at younger drinkers ,such things as Lager,Cider and pushing shots, they have a stage where the dart board used to be with a DJ playing rave music all night ...do we really want that on a Friday night when you can hardly hear yourselves speak i think not.also by 10:30 - 11:00 the very people they are aiming at have all but gone. The service at the bar is a vast improvement with a more professional approach to customer service, you do not have to wait an age or be under 25 to get prompt service. The decor is a lot better and the owners have got to be commended for that ,the gents are 100 times better but how long will it stay like that, i fear that unless they sort out the few problems that exist then it will only go back to how it was which no one wants the railway was the best pub in Ainsdale and can be again with a bit of thought.
