The Wild Swan in Harrogate

Brilliant Sunday dinner! Not been to the area before and booked The Wild Swan for Sunday dinner. My wife and I chose the 2 courses for £25 option. Tasty starters of Beetroot risotto and Lamb croquettes. Mains of chicken Sunday roast and fish pie. Both excellent. All food tasty and good portions. Special mention for the fish pie, packed with salmon, haddock, cod and prawns. Chicken roast came with good portion of chicken and plenty of veg. Great friendly service!

Cosy, country style pub with excellent food and a varied, well priced menu. Good selection of drinks too. Definitely worth a visit!

Oh dear, lots of faded, plastic flowers and foliage everywhere greeting you outside at the front, kerb appeal took a plummet. Extremely bright, modern, clean decor within though, with very posh loo with lovely flooring. Some parking to the front with a bit of additional parking space at the back of the property. Has outdoor seating front and back. Bar room to the left, with dining room to the right. Handpulled cask beers were Black Sheep, Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Ilkley Brewery's Mary Jane. Looked twice when I saw Wild Swan Burger on the menu, yikes, all swans are wild and you can't eat them as they're the queen's, or rather kingioh's now. Dohhh, Wild Swan is the pub name! They serve octopus.... super brainy, sentient creatures..... Not a huge choice for vegetarians on the mains, a £16 cauliflower burger or a beetroot risotto for £20.... gasp, must be gold leaf rice. I just had a brew.

Part of a big table and the food was still of excellent quality 👌🏻 enjoyed a very nice trio of pork and would highly recommend it.

Fantastic food and such a cosy location. Costs a little bit more than your average pub but the quality is well worth it. Would definately recommend if you are in the area.

In a slightly differently, it’s as good as the general Tarlton, and I cannot pay it a higher compliment than that. The lady and gentlemen, who run it are top class, interested in you without being patronising, concerned that you are having a good time and enjoying your food without hanging around you like a bad smell, thoroughly professional (and the lady is a smasher as well!)

We only popped in for a sandwich stop and drink during a recreational walk. We were warmly greeted and seated as details of the menu were explained. The food came promptly despite a warning that there might be a delay due to proceeding orders. The Rare Roast Beef sandwich was excellent, nicely seasoned, accompanied by a small, leaf salad and coleslaw. Due to a dairy intolerance, puddings can be a problem, but the chef himself explained that the chocolate cake was dairy free and served with vegan ice-cream. It turned out to be ridiculously light and flavoursome. We were so pleased with the experience that we immediately booked for lunch the following week. Great experience, excellent value.

You have heard the saying, you get what you pay for. Well not at the Wild Swan you don't. YOU GET MUCH MUCH MORE THAN YOU PAY FOR. Restaurant quality food at its best. Drinks at bar prices no extra ordinary markups on wine here. Exemplary personal service, and the smartest,cleanest toilets. Now if they take such great care of this facility imagine how fastidious they are in their kitchen. Back ground music is just loud enough for those who you like that sort of thing, and quiet enough to be ignored by those who don't. Unlike most high street eateries they don't embarrass you with that so called optional gratuity on the bill. Go on give it a try. When you do, you'll understand how much we enjoyed it, and why we have bothered to write this review.

Stopped in for lunch last saturday. I had the trio of pork and my girlfriend had the sea bass - both dishes where great.

Great food and waiting staff are very friendly and efficient, let down by the chef vaping in the kitchen. Parking is limited directly outside.

We went here for a New Year treat, the food was over seasoned and the steak was like leather,but worst of all the Chef and a service member were Vaping in the kitchen in full view of the customers.This is unhygienic and totally unacceptable

I had a very enjoyable lunch today. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. The portions were good and if anyone visits I don't believe you will be disappointed. ANYONE READING THESE REVIEWS, PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THIS PUB THAT YOU MAY VERY LIKELY HAVE TO RESERVE A TABLE.

We went here on the way past after a afternoon of walking in the Dales, on recommendation from a family member. The car park is a bit awkward with the bays at chevron style angles, and with a few other patrons parking badly meant it was difficult to park, but perfectly doable with some shuffling. As we had our dog we were seated in the bar area, and everyone was very friendly towards her. The food was not what we were expecting, it was amazing. I did not take photos of our starters but they were definitely a step up from pub food and more towards restaurant standardard/fine dining. The mains, pictured, were delicious and ample portioned. I, due to a weird obsession, had a Steak and Ale pie which was full of flavour and a proper pie (none of this puff pasty on top nonesense). My partner had an amazing belly pork dish that was cooked perfectly and seasoned to match. The other guests were friendly and the staff were even more so. Lucy and Niamh were fantastic, thank you for making our evening even more enjoyable! We look forward to coming again when we are in the area.

Great venue, excellent service and a great menu. We had a large birthday dinner party and great food. Vegetables were fresh and crisp, meat was perfectly cooked and portions generous. Highly recommended.

5 stars. Drove past countless times and never tried it until today because of a recommendation of a friend. Blown away by the food never had such nice food from a pub! Service was great also!

I ate here yesterday with my partner and friend and this place did not disappoint! We all shared a mixture of starters which were all delicious, the Sunday roast was perfectly cooked with generous portion sizes and tasty accompaniments. I finished with a chocolate brownie which was out of this world and just melted in the mouth. We ate in the cosy bar area which was dog friendly, so perfect for our pooch. The decor was welcoming and all the staff were amazing and very friendly. Unfortunately we are not from the area but will definitely return to this place and would highly recommend. Special thanks to Alex the owner who made our visit extra special.

Stopped for lunch on the way to Leyburn. Food was excellent had the fish and chips with great mushy peas, lovely people working here. First pint of Taylors for our week away this was the best pint of Taylors the whole week👍

Food and venue were lovely and I might say the best Sunday Lunch I have had for ages - only thing I found was the beer garden although lovely is a bit 'plastic' and lacking in anything 'softer' that might have come from having real flowers in the plant pots or maybe a bit of summer bunting - it was all almost too perfect (Not an insult Im hoping, as I did really enjoy the place)

The meal was cold and "shocking" very much like a local pub we walked in and asked if there were any tables available We got offered a seat and table on the pub side even though there was a Dining Room area through another door, and everyone that came in after us got seated in the dining room area. Would not go there again like I said the food was shocking and it was not cheap "Very clicky" Visitors avoid

It must be our 3rd time at the wild swan. The food was great and the waitress had a photographic memory great for gluten free

Absolutely lovely pub, all the staff are really friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. My only reason for 4 not 5 starts on the food was although my fish was cooked to perfection, the batter and the chips were a little oily but that is only my taste. This pub is well worth a visit. whoever is running it now has done a fabulous job Highly recommended

This was going to be my 2nd visit to the Wild Swan. Promised my son after an enjoyable 1st visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon previously. We attempted our visit on an equally sunny Wednesday evening. Perhaps we should have called ahead to book a table. Nevertheless the car park was only half full and inside it didn’t look too busy. We had a large dog with us so headed for the courtyard at the rear but found every table with a reserved notice albeit only a couple of table occupied. We did notice that like the 1st visit, the table in the centre of the courtyard seems to be reserved for the local youth to drink and generally chat to the bar and waiting staff. Not rowdy but definitely louder than any other table in that area. Feels like they are priority above other customers. Not a problem with that as others had called to book. We asked the girl waitress who was there whether any tables we available to which she said she would check but tables were free at the front of the pub. I said that was fine by us and we would reconvene there. After moving and getting the dog settled at a table at the front, I headed into the pub to order. I was met by the same waitress who had directed us to the tables at front of the pub. I told her were we were sat and that we knew what we wanted to order. She then bluntly said that they were not taking any orders for food unless we had pre ordered food and booked ahead. On the basis it was still quite early and the pub tables not full by any means I was quite amazed particularly as she had directed us to the free area. I said we had driven specially to the pub and was only actually wanting a burger and fries and also a fish and chips so not excessive by any means. She suggested we try a pub further down the road which we didn’t want to go to so all in all quite disappointing. It wasn’t long ago post Covid that new pub restaurants were desperate for business though it seems the Wild Swan is quite cocky about how it treats prospective customers. We for one will not return which is a shame.

I took a party of 10 people for Sunday lunch, we were all very pleased with the food, service and ambience and quite a few of the people have returned for a revisit. The rhubarb cheese cake was delicious for desert, it was light and very tasty. The roast dinner was very good and the beef beautifully cooked. The roast potatoes were a BIG disappointment, they were buried underneath the kale/ cabbage/ broccoli veg serving dish and were a soggy mess. Nathan has promised to sort this out with the kitchen.

Great place to stop for lunch when journeying on the A1. Dog friendly in the bar. Excellent food and lovely staff.

Find pub by chance, just liked it outside, decided to stop and have a dinner. Beautiful interior, separate bar and restaurant area, beer garden. Friendly service, chef was flexible to change dish according to dietary requirements (dairy intolerance). Both dishes were absolutely fantastic. Hubby liked local beer.

Very nice food, staff very helpful and attentive. The menu is fairly priced especially considering you get big portions of lovely tasty food.

Arrived there at 2 45 hoping to get lunch seeing as it states on line 12-3. Waitress said and I quote ' you are 2 minutes to late sorry. Don't think I will be returning..I'd driven 5 miles

The beer garden can only be accessed from the front entrance of the main building which isn't ideal

We visited here with friends, for dinner. The place itself looks very well. The food was very good, I had venison, which was well cooked, after a shared mussels starter. The steak served to my friend was a very good size portion, and the other two mains were also very wholesome. I finished off with creme brûlée, served with berries, that too was top notch. All in all, a very good meal, helped along by the young waiter, who was very cheerful and chatty, but not intrusive.

Popped in for a quiet lunch, very good menu and excellent food. Well worth a visit.

Recently moved from South Yorkshire to North of the county. We are currently renting whilst the new place is being finished and found the Wild Swan after popping in one day to have a quick look. Since then we’ve been 4 times and have always been impressed with A. Quality of the food, B.value. C. And most importantly to us , service. All first class. Most recent visit was 19/4/23’ we had three courses in the end . Excellent and thank you!

We visited the Wild Swan first time recently. It is based between our home and friends accommodation and looked really nice. I booked a table to enjoy our first face to face meeting in 10 years. First impressions were great. The pub is lovely inside. The bar staff greeted us and were friendly. The dining area was gorgeous. The food was well worth the money. Cooked and presented brilliantly. The only reason we won't return is because of the unfriendly waiter. We ordered our food, at least I thought we had all ordered (there were 7 of us) I asked politely if we could add drinks to this order. I was coldly and abruptly told that I can order once he has taken ALL the food orders. I was shocked and embarrassed by this and said "oh, sorry. I thought you had them all" his reply was again rude and simple "no, I do not have all the food orders!" His attitude was totally unnecessary. Our family alone spent £80 here. My friends will have spent similar. It was such a shame and dampened a really lovely reunion. Massive praise to the chef. Thank you for a great dinner!

Top quality food in a classy, well presented setting. More of a restaurant than a pub in my opinion.

Second visit for us and it was very pleasant indeed. Just had the light lunch and dessert, very nicely, efficiently served, lovely relaxed atmosphere, Hoping to visit again - and sit outside in the sunshine! Generous portion of mussels and skinny fries, both delicious, creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding. I need to say no more!

Called in to the old swan minskip 18/03/23 been twice before and enjoyed the food. Today the starter was cold I had pigeon my husbands soup was hot. Our main our was terrible and broccoli was raw the pastry on the steak pie as like iron. We won’t be going back. Saturday night the place was empty.

Went there for the 1st time for Saturday lunch, friendly welcome and a nice varied menu and a good selection of Beers and Lagers. Food was very impressive , everything that came out for kitchen looked very good with a polite service. I had Steak and Frites and my wife the fish pie we also liked the idea of lighter options being available. We will come back again

Exceptional menu, splendid meals, superbly presented in a beautiful environment. We will definitely recommend it to friends and what's more, it is open Monday and Tuesday at lunchtime.

What a fantastic pub. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced. Attentive staff, beautiful decor. Cannot recommend this pub highly enough after our first visit but definitely won't be our last.

I was treated by my family to a meal celebrating my birthday. We were looked after extremely well by friendly and well trained staff. The food was top notch, with a good range of options. That is essential of course at a larger gathering of diners. Overall, this was a delightful evening, and I really enjoyed my first visit to this restaurant, it won't be my last.

AAAAA…MAZING! After spending 7 weeks in Europe, I think this was the best meal I had. My wife and I both ordered the steak frites, I’m a fussy eater and asked for no peppercorn sauce and asked if there was gravy and I am so happy I did, best gravy ever! My wife and I both loved our meal, we had a side of Onion rings to share, these were the icing on the cake! So delicious! Now being a dessert lover, I have been a little disappointed over my trip, however the toffee pavlova did not disappoint and was to die for! Super rich and glad I shared with my wife, normally I wouldn’t but it was a massive serving but super delicious! Thanks to a friendly team of staff for an amazing meal! I highly recommend anyone and everyone to come here and eat!

If you didn’t know it was there hour would probably drive past and miss it. From the outside it doesn’t look much food is absolutely amazing. If you are in the area it is 💯 % worth a visit. Staff lovely and as already said food excellent, the Calvert is the best I’ve had anywhere and the taco salad was to gorgeous. Other half had the sea bass and it look and tasted Devine (his words as I’m a veggie and even wanted some but I did it 😂) I had the teriyaki again full of flavour. If your passing get in there take a detour and try it out you will not be disappointed.

Found wild swan by accident and was luckily enough to be able to get a table, what a place ! Food and drink exception , real fires ,great atmosphere,and to round it off exception staff . Prices not over the top for the quality of food , I had probably one of the best "Fish pies" I have ever had and I love fish . Owners should be very proud of the place ,and staff .
