I turned up to an empty cafe with a load of kids for dessert after a nice meal elsewhere. It was a surreal experience. Emotionless service and staff that seemed to be moving in slow motion. It was a large order but it was a ridiculous amount of time to get it sorted. Thought maybe I’d entered the twilight zone cafe! To be fair the cakes weren’t bad but not good enough to outweigh the service!

Just wanted a drink and something to eat but the person behind the counter was very rude and judgemental as I had mud on my trousers after walking my dog.

Usually really fond of this deli despite the most miserable service ive ever encountered everytime so clearly not just a 'bad day', their food is usually good and its got some spaced out seating which is nice. Ive visited today with my Family for a fly in bite and a warm drink for us all and was advised to sit in is '£2 per item' PER ITEM!! I have never been charged to sit in and it seems loyalty or customer service is not at the forefront here. We were the only people in there- its like they dont want the custom and to have it, is an inconvenience. I like to support small local businesses and always dubious to put a bad review up just incase its a one off but felt like i needed to share this so others arent caught out. Spend your well earned cash elsewhere, if it was just myself id have left at that point but the children were hungry so i bit the bullet. Waste of £39!

Terrible customer service. I've never known anywhere so miserable. I asked if they were ok, thinking maybe someone had died, they just said they were tired. It ruined my morning. I like to support local businesses but I won't be going back.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Lovely freshly made sandwiches/baguettes with a huge choice of fillings, service couldn’t have been friendlier. Looking forward to trying out more of the menu!

Paid £10.20 for a small baguette that was supposed to be roasted veg. wel technically it was but it was roasted pepper out of a jar and a cup of tea. no side salad to go with it. I have owned 3 coffee shops in my time and people sticking up for the sullen miserable cant even call it service in this shop is wrong. Customer is your business so don,t make them feel as if you are doing them a favour. Honestly its rubbish.

The food here was good and the coffee excellent! The staff willingly did what we asked of them, no problem. The people moaning that the staff weren't 'friendly' enough for them need to grow up and stop being so judgemental of others who don't conform to their neurotypical standards of 'normality'!

The owners obviously don’t read the reviews on here!. Whilst it’s popular with pensioners the lack of atmosphere and miserable staff isn’t selling the place, I’ve seen happier staff at a funeral!. There is a large and varied menu but the panini and wrap we ordered were very basic with no side salad or crisps as you would expect somewhere else.

The Coffee Shop is bang in the middle of the village, and very convenient for a lovely cup of coffee or tea. Lots of choices of cakes set out on the counter. A friend and I sat there for over 2 hours with our cuppa, enjoying a proper natter. Some reviews on here seem unnecessarily harsh. Be nice and you will get nice returned. We've never had a bad cake, sandwich, salad or coffee here, and we often visit.

Have to agree with some other reviewers Miserable staff blunt unwelcoming. Reluctant service. Coffee average Cake little dry. Flavoured tea average. Service sullen. Sadly will not return. Dinas Powys a pretty village.

Coffee was lovely, cake was as dry as a nuns and the staff were rude and as miserable as sin , cheer up ladies before you lose all of your potential customers, won’t go back which is a shame, you could be sitting on a little goldmine here, a simple hello wouldn’t go a miss, so long

I’ve been here several times and will continue to do so because the food and choice is good while the location is handy. But what is with the staff and owner. The cake isn’t the only thing you can cut with a knife. And this has been the same for a few years. Come on ladies, cheer up!

This cafe clearly doesn't like strangers. I have never come across such miserable, rude staff...no conversation, no smile, no eye contact. Such a shame as the cake and coffee were delicious. I won't be coming back. I felt really uncomfortable.

Delightful experience, wide choice of salads, baguettes , sandwiches as well as hot and cold drinks. The freshly made "chose you filling" salads are a winner.

After attending a fun day for Ukraine at the common we decided to pop by for a takeaway coffee for the walk home. What a mistake! Having been here a few times before I had noted that the staff were somewhat introverted but thought maybe they’d be more friendly today as we visited with my two young children. I was wrong. Both ladies (one behind the food counter) and the other making the coffees were sullen and downright miserable. The atmosphere in the cafe was awful. You were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. We ordered four hot drinks which took near twenty minutes to arrive. By the time the last drink made an appearance, the first one was finished. The coffees weren’t even especially nice, definitely not worth the wait. We got home and put the kettle on! I have nothing to gain from leaving such a negative review, but I hope the owners read this and take into account comments made. This place has lots of potential and could be something special, if it wasn’t for the sullen staff and awkward atmosphere.

I don't usually post on TripAdvisor however this café is great. I always turn up on my bike, a bit wobbly and rather sweaty. They are so friendly. They heated up the sausage roll, added a nice relish to it and made a great cappuccino. The flapjack is the best I've tasted in ages. One of the staff even lent me his own phone charger! I have seen the odd negative review of this place but those reviews are a total mystery to me. Every single member of staff has a positive attitude. They have regular customers who turn up every week. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

We visited this cafe today and found it was excellent, service, food and cost was just right. Plenty of filling in the sandwiches, tea freshly made. Staff moved some furniture to allow us to sit. Really helpful. Happy to recommend and will certainly come again.

Standard of food is always good. Salads are fresh. Fresh artisan bread. Coffees are a definite must. Sells deli goods too - cheeses, jams, pages etc.

This café continues to offer real value for money. The food is excellent, with a wide range of choices, and served in generous portions. You can sit in or order takeaways. Don't be put off by the rather ungenerous, unfair and unnecessarily personal tone in some of the reviews to be found amongst the others here - we find the owner and the staff friendly, and whether you stay for lunch or just come for a coffee and a cake, this is a place where you can relax.

We were passing through Dinas Powis thought we’d stop for a coffee. What a awful place the people are so “rude” wish I’d read the reviews beforehand. If I owned this cafe I would be reading what people think of my business.

Despite giving this poor review, I've actually been here several times over the last few years. The main reason is that the food (when it eventually arrives) is pretty good, hence the 2/5 instead of 1/5. Another reason is lack of alternatives - it's only a small village centre. I'm writing this in the cafe at 10:30am and I'm currently the only customer.

We went here for lunch as our kitchen had a tradesman in it, replacing the sink.

Like the other reviews the food has always been good here and I haven’t been here for a while but this will be the last time. It is like you are an inconvenience ordering food in the shop. The older lady was probably the happiest I have ever seen her today but the younger lady, my god it is like working there is some kind of jail sentence. I just don’t understand why they are still working there when they are clearly so unhappy - if this is anyone’s natural persona?!

The cafe was quiet with a young female member of staff serving. She seemed completely indifferent to us. We received no greeting or smile. She was unhelpful when asked to suggest any vegan food. The table we sat at was not cleaned, the crumbs were very obvious. Our order was served in silence. When I went to the toilet part of the door catch came off in my hand locking me in. I had to struggle for several minutes to screw it back and release myself! I mentioned this to an older member of staff who had just arrived and as told 'yes it often happens'. No apology, no suggestion that it would be mended! Thank goodness it did not happen to a child as the toilet was windowless. There was no easy way of releasing any one.

Quaint little cafe serving mouthwatering cakes plus an extensive range of sandwiches & salads made to order. Comfortable leather sofas and rustic feel perfect for a catch up with friends. But only negative is some of the older staff were rather glum which was such a shame as a cheery smile and a polite good morning would make me want to rush back

I often go to the deli with friends or my family. Always enjoy great food and drinks. Brilliant selection of salads, baguettes, cakes as well as quiche etc. Reviewers are correct about the service but having gone there many times the staff are very friendly towards me and my family now!

The food served at this little café is top quality and the portions always generous, though there can be a bit of a wait sometimes. My wife and I took a walk through Dinas and decided to pop in for some food.

Honestly, the food is incredible. I use the deli often because of how great it is. The service though; Good god. NEVER has anyone looked so disappointed to take my money. I'd recommend this place to anyone so long as you can handle the battle to fight being consumed by depression because of the customer service. It is a tangible juxtaposition.

The food is tidy and not bad price but the service aint the best. The women in there always have the most "can not be bothered attitude"

I have recently moved to Dinky and have been here on about 3 occasions - each time the food had been fresh and lovely with a good selection of drinks ( I am a sucker for a Limon San Pelligrino and the Chai Latte with cream was simply lush!). Despite the good food, as commented elsewhere the service was simply odd - the younger staff are engaging but as a whole the service is unfriendly to the point of being almost aggressive and you often finish your drink before food arrives without the offer of more. This place is just what the village needs it’s just a shame it’s not a bit more welcoming.

I've visited many times as the food is so good with the baguettes stuffed with superb meats and cheeses and massive Ploughmans. The coffee is also excellent. The owner has an unfortunate demeanour but she's actually very nice and brought us a bowl of grapes unasked for. Sad staff would never put me off if the food is good and the cafe comfortable. Highly recommended.

The Wild Blackberry deli and cafe have a huge array of sandwich fillings, pastries and cakes - the bread is always supper fresh and the coffee is excellent- highly recommended for lunch!

Lugar encantador y la comida decente (especialmente el Deli) y este lugar podría ser mucho mejor con algunos conocimientos de servicio al cliente. Soy un local de Dinas y lo uso regularmente si no fuera por el servicio.

Regularmente tienen la comida de aquí, yo recoger varios almuerzos para un grupo pequeño o a veces. No te puedes quejar de la comida, siempre fresco y bien presentado y había mucho para elegir. Los precios son razonables. Sin embargo, eso siempre es estropeado por las caras miserables de los propietarios y algunos empleados. Señoras, servicio con una sonrisa, quizás un poco de charlar va a lo largo de camino. Sin duda, sería un reconocimiento de usuarios regulares.

La comida y el café, un pequeño gran lugar en ese respecto, pero después de haber visitado un puñado de veces lo único que se puede contar es miserable personal. De las 3 personas que sirve detrás del mostrador no podían engendrar 1 sonrisa entre. Yo trabajo en la industria de la hospitalidad y en realidad lleva un poco de esfuerzo no sonrisa en clientes como vienen. Es una parte importante de la experiencia y hacen que la gente se sienta bienvenido. Aquí sólo parece que gustan de su trabajo y que son una molestia. Normalmente me gustaría poner, ya un pero es el mismo cada vez. . . una lástima.

I live round the corner and have to say all the reviews are spot. Clearly a family business with Mother and Daughter setup but sooooooo miserable!! That then passes to the other staff. If you can go beyond the lack of acknowledgment, smile, hello, how's your day going etc etc then the food is actually very good. Also they don't either look at the reviews on here or do and are not bothered as it's been like it for as long as I can remember.

In fairness I think our visit coincided with short staffing - while the place was not full - the prep behind the counter seemed ferociously busy - for one person, the other two members of staff while I guess meaning to be helpful - I am sorry to say on this occasion they were not.Maybe not enough prep for the covers this lunch time ? I have had excellent service and food here before - unfortunately not this day- I will try another time when I am around and hope normal service to be resumed

Have been looking forward to visiting this little café for some time but am afraid to say that I won't be repeating the experience in a hurry. The services was desperately slow and the staff were totally unenthusiastic. Despite having almost as many staff as sit down customers, it took nearly an hour for them to serve up two toasted sandwiches!!! Can't imagine what they were doing. Although they were clearly serving take-away customers as they came in rather than bothering with the in-house diners. Food wasn't bad but, frankly, not worth the wait. I can only imagine it's a dreadful place to work as the whole team looked totally miserable!

I have eaten here before quite a number of times but the last few visits have been coffee only. I only really have one comment to make - why does it take 20 mins to make two cups of coffee when the place is half empty?? They bring the drinks out one at a time with a good few minutes wait between each. Maybe get a faster machine...

The staff here are all a bit odd, especially the owner who constantly looks like her dog has just been run over. But don't let that put you off as this cafe is a little gem!The food is amazing, the salads are gorgeous and the deli meats and cheese are divine! The portions are great and the prices are reasonable, also the coffee is delish too!It is worth just finding the funny side in the moody women behind the counter and just enjoying the amazing food. I go regularly, it never disappoints.

Strange little cafe/restaurant. The food we found to be excellent. Good quality and choice. Also good value for money.The surroundings are very pleasant.The staff are very strange. The food at the Wild Blackberry is absolutely superb, meat cut freshly to order and the portions are extremely generous. The coffee is also excellent. Good value, you won't go away hungry.

Came here for a fantastic lunch today. Staff were very friendly and red velvet cake to die for! The menu is extensive and portion sizes are extremely generous. Cannot recommend highly enough.

A super little place. Food is excellent. Sadly this is all spoilt by the miserable owner and staff. Never a happy smile or welcome. But as said can't fault the food.

we got take away breakfast every morning, while staying in town. the coffee was a little weak, but the bacon and sausage sandwiches were very good and the bread was very fresh. the prices can be a little better, but its the only place open at that time, i think they are open more days that the other place that serves coffee. not bad, if you don't want to make breakfast, lots of muffins, breads and jams, that sort of stuff, salads i think too. the pubs are a bit better for a lunch or real food - but all in all, our breakfasts were good.

This is a fabulous little deli and coffee shop situated just off the square in Dinas Powys.. All the food served is locally sourced where possible. Staff are very friendly and helpful.Well worth a visit for a snack lunch.

As a very small place it does have a rustic charm the food is good ive been about three times and salads are particulary good my only issue being price they could be more competetive that is all. It is lovely and clean with a good choice on the menu as well as the option to purchase jams chutneys honey etc very quaint if prices were better i would have given a 5

I've been here a few times while waiting for my partner to finish work around the corner but I have been really put off by how miserable the staff seem to be. I don't think anyone has ever smiled at me and while it might not seem like much it did make me feel quite unwelcome and I actually left after finishing my drink to wait in the car as I felt uncomfortable there.The food is great and the drinks are fine. This could be a lovely place to sit with a coffee and read a book were it not for the terrible atmosphere due to the staff. A smile costs nothing but can make all the difference.

Good coffee and cakes. Went here with a friend when we wanted a quiet bolt-hole to talk. Service was good and atmosphere relaxed. Menu is not extensive but what they sell is good.

I went here late last year and although the food is ok, the inside seemed laid out in a haphazard way so sitting in there where we were was not the greatest. Also to echo other comments, they are so glum in there, not so much grumpy, more suicidal. I expect to hear about some sort of group suicide in the place sooner or later. I think about going there occasionally, then decide to go anywhere where else I would be more welcome. Or even a tiny little bit welcome. If they don't like their damn jobs go do something else.

i ate here recently for lunch. We had two paninis and some tea. The paninis took a little while to prepare but when they came they were full of filling and tasty. On a separate occasion we bought some hampers from them and have bought some of their delicious cakes. It's a nice spot for lunch.

Visited here on 9 January because we were viewing some properties nearby. Been here before and found the food ok but service slow with the most miserable staff in the area. Went here for a take away meal for my wife who had just come from a nursing home dealing with a terminally ill relative. The staff were so unfriendly it was unbelievable - it was too much for them to help with the food choices and advise on what vegetarian choices were available. Not a smile or eye contact between them all. Will never, ever go back here again which is a pity because the food was ok and we like to support local businesses.

Lovely location, great menu, nicely decorated but the staff seemed very flat and I felt in the way a little bit. The staff were polite enough but I don't think anyone smiled at us. If we felt more welcome I am sure this would be a regular for us but as it stands don't think we will be back… Shame.

i literally cannot get over the customer service in this deli. the food is always lovely but the staff/owners always appear to be depressed and just plain rude, been to this deli many times but being greeted by those constant miserable faces ensures me that i WONT be visiting again. anyone would think they are doing the customers a favour. everything seems like an effort as they drag themselves around the deli. as someone previously commented..having to look at their faces whilst I'm eating my food is enough to put me off. a smile isn't that much of an effort you know!!? you can't put this down to one bad day, this must be their constant attitude glad to know other people feel the same way and its a shame...if they made the easy effort to smile once in a while this deli would be a much more pleasent place to be I'm sure.

A cute vintage deli is placed in a lovely town and you wonder what could possibly go wrong with the place. Don't get me wrong, the baguettes are lovely and fresh. However, unfortunately this isn't enough to go in and face the unbelievably miserable and RUDE owner and workers. I've visited this deli a number of times as it is local and convenient to grab some lunch when I am out and about. The first few times I just put it off to the owner having a bad day. But seriously, how many bad days can she have? She is just constantly rude, I have never met anything like it. And to top it all off, I was charged an addition 60p to heat up a pasty I had bought from there. It's a shame because the place has the potentially to be a lovely meeting spot to grab light lunch with friends, but the whole atmosphere is glum and miserable and seeing the owners face is enough to ruin anyones day. It amazes me that a person so unsociable, rude and sour faced would even consider opening a quirky baguette shop in the first place. I WONT be visiting again.

We met friends here for a Friday lunch and were spoilt for choice - a great selection of sandwich fillings. And when we asked to share one baguette, both plates came with coleslaw and salad - not everywhere does that. Lovely to sit in the window seat, but the welcome could have been a bit warmer. Well worth a return visit.

Excellent food, whether taking out or eating in. Delicious home-made soups throughout the winter make this a great place for lunch. The coffee is always good too, making it a lovely spot to linger over a chat with friends. Despite some comments from others, we have always found the manager and her staff to be consistently, helpful, kind and accommodating.

Many thanks for a delicious lunch and a comfy sofa after our autumn walk. Will be back soon to make an order for Christmas goodies, as last year's hamper was such a success. Take no notice of unkind comments: everyone here is fine and welcoming!

This deli in the centre of Dinas Powys sells a good range of baguettes, paninis, quiches, cakes etc. to eat in or take away. However, the service seems to vary greatly in terms of friendliness, as noted by other people here. It's bizarre that the staff doesn't take any notice of these reviews, although one of the young girls who served me last week was considerably more friendly than the others. It's such a shame as the food is very good.

Every time I go in there, which has been quite often recently I am baffled by the unfriendliness of the owner and specifically the daughter who is so miserable! Such a shame as it's a nice coffee shop with a fantastic location. Their sandwiches, cakes and coffees are really nice. Today was the final straw for me and I will never again set foot in that place. They really don't deserve the custom they get.

This place was boiling hot and crowded when we arrived, so we decided to sit outside. We ordered our coffees and cake over the counter and waited for ages, despite only one other couple waiting to be served. How long does it take to make a cappuccino and an Americano?! Eventually, our coffees arrived and then the waitress went back in to get our cakes. Why not use a tray and save yourself the trip? Cakes delicious we chose a Seville orange and chocolate cake and a piece of Bakewell tart. Both really good. Don't think I'll be back.t

My friends and I have lunch here on a regular basis. We go back again and again for one reason - the sandwiches. They have a huge range of delicious fillings and, unlike other cafés, they don't skimp on them. The only negative thing is that I have to agree with other reviewers - the owner and her daughter seem really miserable. It may be that they just don't know how to interact with their customers or are a bit shy but, in this industry, they should realise that it will put some customers off. That said, the young girls that they have had working there over the summer are delightful - always pleasant and cheery! Perhaps the owners could take their cue from them?!

The interior of the cafe/delicatessen is really lovely. i get a salad from there nearly every week because they taste so great. some of the comments on here are really cruel, and very unfair. someone mentioned the cafe that opened round the corner, which is nice but doesn't serve food (only cookies and brownies). the wild blackberry has amazing desserts as well. i dont understand some of the critical comments on here, and i always have a pleasant experience when i go in. so give it a shot.

I must agree with other reviewers about the behaviour of the owner and staff. They are so miserable that it really spoils the experience . There is great food and drinks so if you are able to ignore the staff and owners miserable faces it's worth a visit. I smile at them and receive nothing back, having said that the service is good and everything is very clean. I will visit again and may one day receive a pleasant smile, haven't yet though in the last few years, but let's continue to hope.

The food here is lovely, always fresh ingredients. The prices aren't the best prices around though AND the service is pretty desperate. The food here is OK.The deli and cafe are an asset to Dinas Powys: But, and it is a big but, the owner and her staff always seem so curt and unhappy, that it is not a nice place to linger. A smile costs nothing and with a new rival coffee shop about to open, a concerted improvement in customer service could be crucial to their survival!
