The Wight Mouse Inn in Isle of Wight

Remember coming to this pub with my family when I was ten so had to come back 40 odd years later. Disappointed the coffin by the door was gone 😂 but it was a real highlight of our trip. Our dogs were welcomed and fussed over and the food at lunch was amazing, so tasty. Really friendly staff and all the facilities were spotless. Fantastic views over the garden too. A lovely trip down memory lane

My girlfriend and I visited recently during our stay on the island. The pub was lovely with a fantastic atmosphere. The food was incredible with so many different options and all reasonably priced.

After a preplanned walk over the downs toward Compton/Brook we found our intended destination closed. Luckily an addition to our party had a car so we headed out to Chale and the Mouse. Amazingly none of the party had visited for at least 3 decades 🙄 What can I say??? We all totally thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the staff and relaxing ambience made our experience one to remember. We will certainly be back 🤗

Fabulous place ate here several times while on holiday, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, food was perfect, good portions and value for money. They even let us have takeout fish and chips one evening. Would highly recommended.

Wonderful family feel and great personal service. We shall be back, so make sure the pool table is fixed for the 60yr old twins xxxx 😄

Great food, friendly efficient staff.

Had a meal with family and friends, it's a lovely building and it's dog friendly, which is a plus for us. However, the food wasn't as previous reviews described. The beef stew was very salty and lukewarm, the crackling for the pork was soft and obviously reheated. The lasagna is not recommended, it was a pot of grease with lasagna. I was the lucky one of us to have a hot meal, a vegetarian burger. The chefs definitely need to taste their food but the waiters were welcoming and lovely. They also listened to our complaints, which we don't really give out.

The food was incredible but what really stood out for us was the service. The lady who took our order was so friendly and smiley. She was so personable. I wish we got her name to give her the credit. She was tall, slim with dark hair in a short pony tail if that helps her boss give her the recognition that she deserves.

Lovely location. Great service. I’d recommend ordering basic food as only 1/5 enjoyed their meal. 1 ordered chilli which was nice, other 4 ordered from specials board and its was below average, not worth the money at all! Sorry. But the view is worth going for, children’s play area and pet friendly

Food was delicious, a generous helping and of very good quality and perfectly cooked, served hot not luke warm. Higjly reccomend a visit.

We called for dinner. I had gammon. My husband had the ultimate burger. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere. The food was tasty. Would definitely re visit. Highly recommend. Great outdoors seating area. Looking into the sea.

Food was okay, daughters pizza was rock solid in areas, and luckily didn’t break her baby teeth. However the Mac and cheese was lovely and fish pie was lovely with a presentation of seasonal vegetables to accompany it. The service was poor in all honesty, the gentleman who served us was very moody from start to finish despite cleaning up behind ourselves and not complaining about food. He didn’t seem bothered to be there. It may have just been an off day in all fairness, but every encounter you have with a customer affects a business positively or negatively and create a pattern and impact to the footfall of the establishment. The cherry on top though is location and garden; excellent play area for small and slightly older children. My kids absolutely loved it. So 3/5 for this occasion. Will come back but maybe not order the pizza next time

Visited with Chris Cane an Islander, he motioned this place so much. Well was impressed the staff the friendliness the scenery, the fast service and wow the food was Outstanding I am Vegan though have dairy, and had a Vege Lasagne the best I have ever tried - i want to come again and soon thank you guys for the hospitality, friendliness and service Paz

Great place, good food, excellent service. If you would like to tip - you need cash as cannot add tip to card payments. I've heard from my friends that they honour blue light card - didn't know that at the time.

Stopped on the off-chance of getting a meal. They were very accommodating, service was prompt and excellent. The surroundings were beautiful as was the pub and gardens. Locals were very welcoming. Most importantly....the food was incredibly tasty. Excellent choice.

Quick service, well organised. Food was lovely, Fish pies were very tasty. Salad bowls are big and burger was nice. Enjoyed it.Nice back garden seating outside.

Ah, the joys of a bank holiday escape—a time for relaxation, exploration, and in my case, a masterclass in how not to manage a hotel booking. My adventure began innocently enough: a couple of nights on a charming island I thought, a competitive rate, and gluten-free breakfast options. As someone who can’t risk a crumb of gluten, this was as good as finding a golden ticket. I joyfully entered my credit card details, feeling quite chuffed about the "book now, pay later" deal. What could possibly go wrong? Well, it turns out, quite a lot. You see, my friends were coming along for the ride, and as fate would have it, I’d nabbed the last room on the hotel’s website. Being the considerate companion I am, I gave them a ring to see if they had any secret rooms stashed away. Amy, the ever-helpful staff member, confirmed they could accommodate my friends, albeit with a room hop after the first night. No big deal, right? They were happy, so I left them to arrange their accommodations. Fast forward to the next morning, when I received a call from a chap named Alex, who had the delightful task of informing me that the room I’d booked—directly, mind you—was no longer available. Cue the dramatic record scratch. Was this a joke? I booked directly on their website, not through some dodgy third-party site, so how could my room vanish into thin air? When I inquired about alternatives and his replied are not helping, Alex’s response was a masterclass in customer disservice, effectively: "Not much I can do, mate, I'll check with the guys that run the site." And just like that after being challenged, he hung up—clearly a man of few words and even fewer solutions. In all my years of gallivanting around various hotels, I’ve never encountered anything quite like this. Thank heavens we hadn’t shelled out for ferry tickets yet, or this debacle could’ve been very costly. Needless to say, my friends also cancelled their booking faster than you can say “bank holiday,” so the hotel lost not just one but two reservations, in fact not sure what to think anymore. They received a polite apology in writing; I, however, was treated to a deafening silence. The cherry on top? Later that day, I received a cheery automated email: "A warm welcome awaits your arrival!" Oh, the irony. For anyone else considering this hotel, a word to the wise: double-check that your room won’t pull a disappearing act, and always use a credit card for bookings over £100 to cover your bases. As for me, I’ll be steering clear of this establishment—preferably at high speed.

I wanted to love it, but sadly I could only give it 3 out of 5. I had the veggie pie with chips and veggies, and straight away I saw the mange tout was mouldy ( see pictures). This put me off especially as the pie contained the same veg including the monge tout as it was served with which is odd in itself. On a less yuk note husband had asked for no dressing and his salad had dressing, who ever had slopped it on had done a good job as it was hard to find any of it dressing free. When the waitress came to ask if everything was ok, we said about dressing and I showed her the mouldy monge tout, she said she would mention it to the chef. And that was the last we heard, needless to say we left 15 mins later for me to eat somewhere else, without mouldy veg.

After a day of exploring and visiting local sites we decided to come here for dinner.. arriving the car park is ample with plenty of parking , walking in there is a large play park and indoor play park and is setup very well for families! Heading inside the decor is very pleasing and keeping to traditions, the menu is very good and plenty of choices and the food is excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful, went for the garlic mushrooms , lasagne and sticky toffee pudding (which was excellent!)

Always good service , good food at a sensible price too . Always eat here whenever I visit the island . Never stayed there but if the rest of the pub is anything to go by , I’m sure it’s good 👍

Had a fabulous lunch at the white mouse on Thursday. 4 of us ate and everyone loved the food. Good service, friendly staff and AMAZING views. Would highly recommend. I didn't stay here so can't comment on the rooms.

Amazing views, from some point inside and all of outside. Tasty food and friendly staff. Plenty of places to park at the back and the electric car charging point is a huge positive. We've been before and we'll return in the future.

Lunch on Saturday 29th June. I had the Chicken Supreme from the specials board. I really hope that you put this on more often. It was really lovely. Highly recommend. Never had a bad meal at the Wight Mouse.

Had a fantastic meal, the minted lamb pie was so tasty and filling, the service was speedy and frendly and our Grandson loved the play area, all in all a great early evening dine out. Very impressed.

Had a bit of a misunderstanding with our room booking. Owen rescued the evening for my mum and I. He took time out to find us an alternative place to stay. He then looked after us with the evening meal, which I have to say were very good and very large. Thank you Owen, great service, definitely above and beyond and greatly appreciated

We had a group of 12 also a busy night and the food was fantastic, also had a female singer which gave a great atmosphere will definitely be going back

We didn't stay here so no idea what the rooms are like. The location is brilliant and easy to find. Ample free parking. The staff were lovely and friendly. The meals we had were very generous and very tasty. You will not be disappointed if you visit the Wight Mouse. 👍🙂

Always a good place for a family meal, well priced and food is very well prepared. Can't comment on rooms as never stayed, there's a play area which our children enjoy. The only thing I don't like is the games cabin (walk in arcade) as the kids always want to do something there and as with most arcades it's pretty pricey.

Went in on spur of the moment whilst killing some free time and they were very accommodating and courtous , the food ordering and drinks was stress free and the menu vast and once served vert flavourful and exactly what you ask for , would go again and recommend to all , a very good day out and worth the money

Booked for dinner fairly last minute as we were caravanning nearby and glad to have done so. The place was busy and the food was amazing - had the mixed grill combo and that’s super good value in my opinion. The place is dog friendly and has a lovely large beer garden to the rear for when the sun is out. Staff are lovely and very attentive. Thanks for a great meal!

Great family pub with all the classics.

Can't say I was impressed with any of the 5 main meals we ordered. 10oz gammon steak for £16 yet it had alteast 2oz of fat that was hard to cut of even with the steak knife they give you with it. Deserts however wer good. Wouldn't choose to go there again tbh.

We stop here every time we are on the Island and yesterday was as great as ever. Lovely food, friendly staff, gorgeous view and value for money, so great we are going back today for lunch.

Evening meal not accommodation. Service was fine, but the quality of the food was not reflected in its price. First steak overcooked, replacement was a tad under-done, but lacked flavour. Paella with linguini was fairly tasty, but the fish pieces were almost indistinguishable and why the peas?

Excellent meal ' we both had the ultimate burger so filling real chips not out of a bag . Just what you need on a sunny evening.

Lovely location, not far from the cliffs which are spectacular. The Inn is very nice with lots of entertainment for all ages. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. Only thing is the room did not have a chair for anyone who wanted to do maycup and blow-dry their hair. Not only dog friendly but encouraged.

Fabulous food! Had one of the best pies ever here, Steak and Ale, shortcrust pastry, packed to the brim with tender, zero fat beef....absolutely amazing 👏 Would love to return in the summer and eat outside, plenty of seating inside and out, entertainment for kids and dog friendly all along with reasonable prices!

Based on the visit on mother's day. Had to park a fair way away. Food came out stone cold had to ask for another as i knew it wasn't safe to eat. Seats were crammed in alley ways that should be kept clear as people kept bumping into us. So loud and completely unpleasant experience at a pub we normally rate. So disappointing. 😞

Came with the family for a drink and a snack. Lovely location and service good. But a little disappointed I only wanted a ham and tomato sandwich and the lady behind the counter said I will ask the chef. They did ham and mustard but because I wanted something off the menu there was an extra charge. All the other food came out but mind was nothing like I expected. Ham and cheese with a quarter of tomato and some salad. I did tell the young lady who offered to take it back. Iam not that fussy but said I would eat it ; but couldn’t be bothered to send it back. Paid extra and didn’t get what I asked for.

We stayed last week at the mouse, have done many times over the last few years and don't look to stay anywhere else on the Island when we visit. The staff are just great, you have Tony who always and without fail gives a smile and a warm welcome each time. Deb who can't do enough for you, Alex the same...everyone fabulous. The menu is extensive and has pretty well what you need. The rooms, which I think we must have stayed in all of them by now are comfortable..! Thanks again and we'll see you later in the year. Lovely place to eat out. Food was delicious. Large portions, well cooked. We sat and watched the sunset while our food was being prepared. Rooms were cosy, clean and comfortable.

Emailed The White Mouse twice requesting a table for two for an 80th birthday suprise,4/5 days later still no reply.Busy or not in my book thats rude!,thankfully other places are happy to oblige!..

Fantastic food, lovely friendly service. We're going back within the week with other friends.

The meal and experience went from ten to zero very quickly. The bar was short of glasses and substituted with smaller glasses, this would be fine if they didn't try to charge us full price. The kitchen and bar stuff obviously can't or don't communicate with one another. I understand the order was rather big, but 10 minute gaps between orders that we were told they would send together (informed them by their request once last of us had ordered) isn't acceptable. The waiters need more training, very aloof.

Always, always, always a good meal for the price in quality and quantity. Clean dining area, clear of rubbish. Staff polite and always willing to put the customer first. Top pub and top team Andy.

We have eaten here a number of times now. Service was very quick and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the 3 course Christmas Dinner and it was delicious! There's a large playground outside for the kids and it's dog friendly too!

Lovely setting, great food, staff are friendly. A lot of space do your not squashed in. Only gave location a 4 as its so out the way and you really need a car to get there, otherwise the setting gor the pub is perfect 👌
