Having walked from Sandford on a very warm day, all we wanted to do was sit inside with our dog for something to eat. Thankfully (having been turned away from other places en route) we found this absolute gem of a cafe. So many coffee bean choices, a lovely selection of fillings for sandwiches etc & beautiful home made cakes. I can't thank you enough for welcoming me, my husband & our Beagle (Porthos).

I visited this cafe whilst on a short holiday on IoW and really enjoyed it. It is small, and the menu is quite basic (e.g. I had a fish finger sandwich - something I haven't eaten for years - and very nice it was, too) but that's fine and exactly what I want and expect from a corner cafe. What lifts it above the norm are the very friendly staff and the excellent coffee.

Door open so petrol and cigarette smoke fumes. Surly ' service'. Went there against my better judgement. Poky and overpriced. Had the impression that regulars peobably get treated better, oneoffs certainly despised. Rude and officious. If there was a zero rating I would give it.

Walking by this corner cafe, we immediately liked the look of it. So after doing a bit of shopping, we stopped off for a lite bite. We ordered simple food, I had a cheese and bacon toastie and my wife had a fishfinger sandwich. Both were delicious, with an excellent little side salad with each. The staff were very friendly and they also had a good selection of cakes, although we didn't try one on this occasion. It's only small, but definitely has a charm about it, so it's well worth a stop, whilst shopping in the town. We will be back!

Lived in Shanklin for 7 years, before that central London. It's not easy getting decent coffee on the island but even the decaf in this place is exception. The staff are friendly too. Try the homemade cakes--all butter-- they are great and so are the huge cheese scones which are very fresh, served toasted with butter.

We stopped in just to see if they did any decaf flavoured coffee and left with six! The french vanilla is fabulous and going decaf is now not quite so traumatic. I don’t think it’s going to be enough though so was relieved to see a review further down that says they do mail order! Hurrah! Friendly service and still as varied as it always was.

The ladies who served us were really lovely and service was great but we had travelled especially to get a nice coffee before going on and I have to say it tasted really awful. It was heated to a top high temp so tasted really burnt and bitter so we had to just cut our loses and just throw it away. We did have high expectations as the reviews were good and we don’t know the area. Maybe it was a one off bad experience?

We have been regular customers in this cafe for years, along with many many other locals. We are surprised at the last two negative reviews and would ask those reviewers if they made a complaint as if they had then immediate action would be taken. When we return from mainland travels we are always quick to visit the Leafy Bean as it is always a very good latte, served with a smile and a friendly chat. The ladies are always cheerful and there is a good atmosphere with locals (usually regulars), with visitors also being welcomed and included. Cakes are particularily good and the salads/sandwiches look tempting. It can be a squash (so it must be popular) but if you share a table then you will always be welcomed. I always say, if necessary to complain, do it face to face.

Not sure what people are reviewing when they say the coffee here is good. It’s not. This has always been a favourite spot in Shanklin, where one always felt welcome and the food and drinks were good value. This latest visit disappointed and unless things improve we will not be visiting again. I understand that the business is in the process of changing hands, and the previous owners are helping in the transition. The coffees were in very small cups, were lukewarm and relatively expensive. The cakes didn't have a price but when we got the bill it showed just how dear they were. I cannot see this place surviving unless things improve. There is a charity shop only 100m away, at the corner of Regent Street and St Paul' s Avenue, which serves drinks and cakes which are far better value. That will be our first port of call in future.

This place is famous for its views across the Solent, but only in the summer. In the winter the windows are always steamed up giving you near to no visibility outside. We didn’t eat but the menu looks good and average prices for the area. Drinks were more expensive than the Seaview Hotel just around the corner. +£1 per drink on gin & tonic. It was November on a Friday evening and all tables were reserved. We did sit at one of their best tables for our drink ‘Captain Ted’s Table’ and it was wobbly as hell. Felt like it was going to give way at any time. Come on this is an easy fix.

We have been here many times over the years and looked forward to our visit again this year. What a disappointment. We had a cream tea which consisted of a pot of tea, 2 scones, butter, cream and jam. The jam and cream pots were half the size they used to be and the butter was barely there, adequate enough for one scone but certainly not two. The jug of milk supplied did not have enough milk for one cup of tea and we had to ask for extra. I do not drink tea and asked for my tea to be substituted with coffee, big mistake, it was undrinkable. Went we went to pay we were told 'cash only' and I was lucky to find some cash in the bottom of my bag. This should be made clear when you enter and before you order as a lot of people do not carry cash. Our experience was so different to every other visit we wondered if there were 'new owners' but overheard the owner telling other visitors that she had been there 17 years. Sadly will not be returning.
