Dropped in here for a light lunch while visiting Taunton for a couple of days. Exceptional! Great food (we had the hot pork baguette of the day and a chicken and mozzarella panini which we shared) at a great price, great service, and a lovely atmosphere eating in. The menu was varied and excellent, and all the food we saw being served looked amazing! Would highly recommend and will be visiting again next time we are in town! Thank you.

Lovely place to go, staff are really friendly, food is good just wish it had more seating as normally full and I have to go somewhere else which is a shame.

Regular place for rolls, downside to this is on attending recently in the morning, no food product made up for rolls, their approach was we haven't made it up, in my opinion the shop should of stayed closed until the product was ready, very lazy approach to retaining business. Coffee was bitter due to poor grinder setup, extraction rate was very poor. However I have found another shop that supports regular customers. found coffee1 rnd the corner who serve quality coffee and panninis.

Very nice and tasty breakfast, especially after the gym. Price - definitely worth it.

Lovely cafe just heading out of Taunton. We found it on line before we went to the town as my wife is gluten and dairy free. She was very well catered for and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

This place is really outstanding. I've been here several times now, and it's never disappointed. The portion sizes are so generous, and the value for money is incredible. I'm not local, so only pop in now and again, but each time I do, it's always filled with people. I visited yesterday, and a little elderly lady came in. She was called by her name, helped to a little table, and served her regular soup. When people return constantly, you know it's good! I trekked from the opposite end of the high street past so many other options just to get a sandwich from these ladies. Highly recommended anyone to eat here! :)

Wickets always does good lunchtime trade and you can see why. I had a coronation chicken sandwich on white bread (£3.50) which was very tasty - a nice big doorstop wedge of a sandwich. My friend had their club sandwich special which was huge! It was busy in the seating area so we took our sandwich to go and ate them on a bench in Goodland Gardens across the road.

The ladies working there were so lovely, had a train to catch and they made my sandwich quick for take away, it was friday so they had a spiced steak special sandwich which i ordered with the lot. Unbelievably tasty, this is a must hit spot for sandwich lovers visiting taunton. 🤝

I felt that my visit was rather disappointing. When I went in, the person behind the counter initially tried to avoid eye contact and then said "sorry, I'm making rolls - she will help you". Not the warmest of welcomes. After that, service was prompt and polite. My main disappointments were: 1. Coffee is served in strange worn and scuffed plastic beakers with deep vertical ridges on the outside, not proper cups. Not my idea of a decent coffee drinking vessel (you can't see any dirt if they are black). At that price, I expect a ceramic cup. 2. The black coffee was weak - a regular cup was approx 350ml with supposedly one shot of espresso - just tasted like hot water and I could not see the colour because the plastic beaker was black 3. No wifi 4. On full view in the seating area is a freezer full of sliced bread - I assume for making sandwiches. The sandwich I had was dry-ish but at the price I paid. I would expect fresh bread 100% of the time (frozen defrosted bread undergoes a staling process and makes for a yucky sandwich). The bacon inside the sandwich was good. Not as good as Greggs, Costa or Weatherspoons - so plenty of better options a few minutes away. They have decent coffee and fresh bread at lower price. It would cost little money and effort to put the negatives right .

Had brunch here on a wet and miserable morning whilst passing through Taunton on our way to Devon. Food was fantastic, both my wife and I felt this was one of the best Full English Breakfasts we had enjoyed. Visited with our young family and, a bit tight on space, but we were well looked after. Nice vibe, great food and lovely staff.

I was in between wickets and wetherspoons for breakfast and went for wickets because I thought it would be more freshly cooked should of gone to wetherspoons not very good for £10 full breakfast and didn't even get my toast, wetherspoons next time for me

i was looking for something quick to eat after the coal orchard 'grand opening' and noticed there was a good queue for sandwiches here which is usually a good sign! the place was quite busy with people and only had a few seats so i had it as a takeaway but it was very well wrapped - very crisp bacon and good brie and good value at £4.50 - staff very friendly & efficient - this is a nice part of the town with mainly independent businesses rather than chains

I have been regularly frequenting this cafe for several years now, usually for a take-away lunch whilst at work. Incredibly helpful staff and a wonderful friendly atmosphere. Prices are mid-range but the portion size is generous and the quality of food is outstanding. This cafe is regularly voted as the most popular lunch spot in my workplace and with good reason. Be warned, it can get busy around lunch time on weekdays but the remarkably delicious home made cakes are, in my opinion, always worth the wait.

A small shop that packs a big punch, amazing freshly made hot or cold sandwiches and baguettes with a good selection of fillings. Tasty homemade cakes normally on display as well. The place I'd go for a snack in town

I was looking for a coffee shop to hide in whilst my lovely wife and mother carried on with their mammoth shopping spree…. And I stumbled on The Wickets! It is quite small and was quiet at the time (10.30, Tuesday), but want a great find ! First and most important, the coffee was great, all freshly made. There was a really good food choice, made in a kitchen behind the main counter and visible to all. The bacon and egg buttie was excellent, full of bacon not one of these one slice and you should be grateful things. The staff extremely friendly and welcomed everyone with a smile. By the time my family joined me the place was full with a healthy stream of take outs being served with freshly cooked breakfasts and lunches. We had to come back to Taunton on the Saturday and this time I had the full English. Amazing! All fresh, all hot, great sausages and eggs. Oh, and they welcomed our little dog (Fudge, friendly border terrier), who also gave a huge paws up to the sausages. Thanks for making us welcome, you are a Gem of a Coffee shop!

Just an impromptu morning cappuccino. Coffee is surprisingly nice and stronger than most places - bonus. There is a huge array of sandwich fillings which makes this place busy. There are 3/4 tables inside, other seating are outdoors. This establishment is clearly geared up for the "grab and go". However, the adjacent table has ordered breakfast and they are rather nice.

Just popped in for something, haven't been in for over a year because of lockdown. Bought a wrap, chose chicken tikka plus roasted vegetables. Absolutely delicious, a bargain too! Really big helping. Even managed to eat it without getting any on my shirt.

Im afraid to say we've noticed the quality of the food and portion sizes seem to have gone down and prices crept up since the new owners took over. But its still a reasonable place for a quick lunch. I think subway may have taken a bit of the business away since they opened. Sorry Just being honest

Stooped here with my family whilst visiting Taunton.We ordered a Pannini, a Pork and stuffing roll with crackling and a jacket potato with cheese and beans. Friendly staff and lovely cooked and presented food.All eaten in a pleasant surrounding.Well done, we will visit again

This is an interesting one. Tiny little place situated in James's street in Taunton, just off the main drag. When I was a yoof it was a pub called the 'Turks Head' (some sort of reference to the crusades apparently) we used to call it the 'Turks Arse'. Anyway, enough of the nostalgia. Went in on a cold grey Friday morning and ordered a full English, very little room to sit and relax, but I found myself a little corner, surrounded by a few builder's on there break. Service was excellent, the young lady at front of house was lovely, and obviously devoted to her job (well done you!) Didn't wait long for food, pretty good breakfast, which included 2 huge sausages, even the builder's couldn't finish them. Got to say, that I got the idea that the Wickets has a very brisk trade in takeaway for people on the go. So if you're in the town and would like a coffee and bit to go, this is the best place to go, would definitely recommend.

Expensive £5 breakfast roll was very disappointing, cheap tomato sauce, overcooked sausages and cheap fatty bacon. Overall a disappointing experience that I would not recommend to anyone. Gregg's would be a much better option...

A quaint little café. I usually get something to take out and the food is reasonable. I haven't sampled much they have to offer but the cakes always look tempting and the staff are friendly and accommodating.

Yesterday I went in to grab a bite to eat for the first time. I originally went in to ask for directions but smelt the food and returned within five minutes. The most important thing for me about anywhere i eat, as well as a lot of people, is the feeling of being welcome and how the owner chooses to represent themselves and their staff to the public. Two ladies were working, they had already helped with my directions and when I went back in it was lovely to crack jokes with both of them whilst they worked. The place has a very homely, almost traditional city, vibe to it and all the food is home made, which is absolutely brilliant, really isn’t much like that in Taunton so it’s a breath of fresh air. Another great sign is the amount of people coming into the establishment, I was there for five minutes tops and another 6 customers, individuals, came in to eat there, another great sign; especially on a weekday lunch. I will definitely be returning whenever I am around that area and would recommend to anyone else.

The Wickets crew provide great coffee and tea, and offer lots of small lunch options, all at good quality.But the biggest plus is that they care - about the customers, and about doing things well.Near Somerset county cricket, in a nice lane just off Taunton high street, they get cricketers and other locals who value them highly - my 2 hours there for a coffee and then a light lunch meant I saw people come and go.I recommend the homemade sausage roll and salad. Very nice.I got to the cricket later and had a great day! Looking forward to another visit to Wickets.

Recommended by Somerset Cricket! We popped in on Saturday 8th on a World Cup cricket day, timed right to get a table for four. They couldn't of helped us out more, friendly and great service, had 4 x full English served fresh & quick. Fab coffee too. Nothing was too much botherThey also kept out sandwiched we ordered until half time at the cricket!Top place - Go!!!

I have been here a couple of times and have got to say I don't know what the fuss is about, the cheese used is tasteless, I would expect better bread than just a standard slice and I was charged more than what was stated on the board but did not realise this until after i had paid and did not have time to wait and question the price as all members of staff had moved on to other customers. Is was also poorly presented with the filling in the sandwich just falling out everywhere.

You have to fight to get a seat

We visited here on 19 April. This is a gem of a place that never fails to deliver good quality food. On this occasion we had take away salad boxes - so much better than the supermarket. This is not just any sandwich bar - it is the best sandwich bar. Try it - you won’t be disappointed.

What a lovely little sandwich shop . We enjoyed a chicken bacon and cheese panini it was delisious. Staff very friendly service very quick . Will definatly return if in Taunton again . Sadly the loo was very small , and door lock a bit dodgy but the cafe itself is perfect.

I visit Wickets on a daily basis, given I work nearby. The staff are friendly, asking about your day and after a while, you are on very good terms where they know you, and you them, by their names. The food is fantastic, with a variety of choice provided and each day, a different special. there have been occasions I have been spoilt for choice and ended buying several items off the menu, just to sample them. There have been instances where I have come in to find very items remaining, given they have sold out. This happens for the most part on days where they have been unusually busy. I would not mark them down on this as believe it instead is a testament to the service they provide. To summarise, fantastic food and lovely staff.

This is a great place to pick up lunch! Very friendly service and good potion sizes. The 'Christmas Dinner' baguette is a particular favourite!

Called in for lunch. Obviously has a good local following and although we have never been here before we were made to feel welcome from the start. Coffees and tea were both excellent and the food, which had a good choice and was freshly made was also very good and reasonable priced. Really don't understand why people would buy pre-packaged food from national chains when they could either eat in or takeaway from here.
