The new Huntingdon bypass may make it a little harder to get to from the A14, but this place is absolutely worth it. Beautifully home-cooked food in a traditional, welcoming setting, and even the kids' portions are amazing with possibly the best chips ever.

Stopped off here today on a cycle ride from Cambridge. Staff were friendly and orders were quick. We had whitebait starters - whitebait was fab and the salad underneath was even better. Mains were a ciabatta - apparently really good, and I had trout with the best leek and spinach mash. We sat outside in the garden and enjoyed the sun. Couldn't fault it.

First time back since lockdown. This is a no fuss venue. The chips are triple cooked but they don't feel the need to mention it. The sirloin steak came with a boat of pepper sauce without it being an extra. I had a pork escallop in crispy breadcrumbs with a barbeque sauce that was to die for. The beer is still up to standard and very reasonably priced.

I went to the white swan with family for a Father’s Day meal this year, nice setting and overall nice food. My Dad and I are both coeliacs and I had checked at the time of booking that there would be options for us and was told there would be. We both ordered the roast lamb and I asked for ours to both be gluten free, the waitress interrupted me to say yes fine we have gf gravy, as I was about to explain that they should remove any items that are not gluten free. She told me it was fine so I trusted that they knew what they were doing. When the meals were brought out I was very surprised to see a giant Yorkshire pudding on every plate, and gravy already on there. A separate jug of gluten free gravy was given to myself and my dad to go with our meals. I checked with the waitress and she went to ask the kitchen, then came back to say that the Yorkshire puddings were not gluten free. She asked me to pick it up from my plate and give it to her and then eat the rest of my meal. I explained that I couldn’t do that as I am a coeliac and would need a new meal. She was apologetic but it gave me absolutely no reassurance as to what was going on in the kitchen, I would never expect a chef to put Yorkshire puddings on plates that were supposed to be gluten free meals! In 6 years of being a coeliac I’ve not had an experience like this. I also had no idea what was in the gravy on my plate or the stuffing, nobody reassured me that it was all gluten free. After this experience I’m afraid I wouldn’t be keen to eat here again, the staff definitely need more education on allergies and dietary requirements, it’s really important!

On the phone I asked them if they can deal with my celiac dietry illness and they said yes. When I arrived with an old skool friend and my wife the chef Alex came and spoke to me and said that he will make sure that no butter, milk and wheat flour will be used in the lamb dish. This was totally the case when I ate and really enjoyed the food. No bloating etc afterwards. This pub, resto really cuts the mustard. Good foo Avant Garde food. I will be going back.

We had a lovely meal here at the weekend - lots of choice and each of our different meals were great, with big portion sizes for the desserts! The reason for my review though is due to the outstanding service we received. At around 9PM, my partner realised he had forgotten to arrange a roast dinner for his 94 year old grandmother the following day and although The White Swan wasn’t serving roasts, they made it happen for us. Better still, they served it up on a plate and said just bring it back when we can (we’ll return it in the next few days!). This is the kind of service that makes us want to come back and tell all of our friends so I can see many pub garden nights here this summer! Thanks also for all of the Covid safe measures and patio heaters, they were very much appreciated while it’s still chilly at night!

I took my mum for the 1st time and as she doesn't eat to much I asked if myself and my mum could share a meal was expecting 2 plates to sort it out. But no they went the extra mile and split the meal into 2 separate bowls salad each and garlic bread each. We so impressed and the lasagna was amazing. Thanks again for such a wonderful evening

Mrs P and I had lunch here consisting of ham, egg & chips and fish & chips with "mushy peas". I'd made a reservation so on arrival we were shown to our choice of table and offered drinks. All COVID precautions in place. Service was very good and efficient. Good quality tasty food BUT mushy peas are not mashed or crushed garden peas! This isn't the only pub/restaurant to misdescribe their peas but I was gutted when my crushed/mashed garden peas arrived :( Oh, and the service charge? If you want to charge more for the food and drinks then do so but in my book adding a service charge is not cool.

My daughter and I went here last Thursday as it was my birthday and did not want to cook. I have passed this pub many a time and always told myself, I will go there one day. The pub was quite busy outside when we arrived, ample parking facilities. As it was raining we opted to eat inside. The lovely bubbly young lady took out drink order, which another equallly lovely and friendly lady took us through to the eating area so we could choose where we ate. It is currently a reduced menu due to the situation. We both fancied fish and chips. Best ones I have ever had, and we eat out a lot, presentation was good, food piping hot. We was stuffed after that, but a meal is not complete without a dessert, again, wonderful texture, think it had white chocolate chips in it as well. All that for £43 including drinks. We are not able to use the eat out scheme due to work, but more than happy to pay full price for this. See you soon.

Booked a table for 2pm. Good job we did. The place was full. We only live a couple of villages away, but haven't been here for ages. Read the reviews on here looking for a good Sunday dinner locally, and booked it on the strength of the reviews. Definitely lives up to all the 5 star reviews it gets. Gets off to a good start with the atmosphere as you pull into the car park with lovely countryside surroundings. Upon entering we were quickly and efficiently shown to our table which felt quite private even the the restaurant was busy. We both had the paté to start. 100% home made and delicious. Plenty of toast nice lightly dressed salad and even a portion of new potato. It looked more like a main course than a starter. The main was just as good. Excellent size portions and so tasty, without being blow your head off rich. Lots of little touches to the veg to make it special with delicious parsnips. Yorkshire was gold and crisp and light, cauliflower cheese was just how it would be if you were pleased with one you had prepared at at home like it with golden melted cheese on top. All of the staff were attentive and looked as though they were actually enjoying the job. Cheesecake was just as good. Another good size portion (enough for two after the large starter and main.) Didnt feel rushed even though we were one of the last tables to leave, and the bill didnt arrive until we asked for it. All in all we are now looking forward to returning when the opportunity arises. Absolutely nothing not to like!

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel at home. This pub has a cosy atmosphere, with plenty of warmth from the fire and a good selection of ales. The restaurant does not disappoint either. The service was swift, courteous and rapid, the food and wine to a high standard. We will be returning for sure.

We had dinner here with friends - great food, great atmosphere, lovely staff and friendly regulars/locals. We look forward to returning soon and the food and drink was very reasonably priced which was a bonus! Lovely cozy bar area for pre and post dinner drinks in front of a roaring fire - perfect!

Lost for words at just how good this Sunday Lunch is. Unbelievable food in a busy but friendly and attentive environment. We sat by the wood burner till our table was ready listening to the banter between landlord and regulars. Had a really nice lunch with good food, the beer is excellent (Adams). Served direct from the barrel stored on shelves behind the bar. The food is good quality pub grub. Not far from the A14 if your passing. Staff very helpful and friendly.

We visited today and had the perfect Sunday lunch-roast beef and lamb cooked to perfection, really tender, and roasties as good as my own! Lovely fresh veg too, and delicious desserts. Friendly efficient staff, and warm welcome from Caroline the lovely landlady. Highly recommended for all family occasions.

Following my previous review, we had booked a family lunch to celebrate a birthday. The initial welcome at the bar was friendly & we ordered our drinks. We were then given a choice of two table locations - neither of which were ideal but we opted for one in the lighter area despite it being near a doorway and draughty. I was surprised that a table hadn't actually been reserved for us given that we had booked on our previous visit. We were given menus to peruse and a young girl then came to take our order. We explained that we required a serving of gravy without any onion flavouring for my Mum and also asked if the veg could be cooked until soft. The girl disappeared to the kitchen, returned to check our requirements and disappeared again. Next a young male came to the table to say that it wasn't possible to have the separate non onion gravy. We explained that this had all been discussed via a friend ahead of our visit. Still they were none the wiser. A mature woman then approached our table to ask what the problem was. Again we re-iterated our requests. She disappeared briefly and returned to say that the gravy was already made and that they couldn't make the separate non onion gravy but only offer gluten free. At this point my Mum, whose birthday we were supposed to be celebrating, just told them to forget it, cancel our order and we would go elsewhere. We paid for our drinks and starter that Dad had then departed. Is it really so difficult to mix some gravy powder? I bet they would have accommodated vegetarians/vegans but just because someone doesn't like onions or onion flavouring, they couldn't make gravy!!

We visited The White Swan today after googling local pubs that had play facilities for young children and we were extremely happy with our choice. The Sunday roast was fantastic and we all enjoyed it including my 4 year old daughter. The only small problem we had is that we were accidentally given the wrong dessert order, however this was quickly corrected and it simply meant we got to taste 2 things on the dessert menu and they were both amazing. The landlady was also outside helping to clear glasses, plates etc and was speaking to all the customers that were visiting, we felt was a real plus to our visit and made us feel very welcome. Fantastic pub and we will be back soon and thank you to all that work there we had a lovely afternoon.

We were a party of eight and had booked a table for an evening meal. The dining room was separate from the bar, great pub food and excellent service. Not a huge selection on the menu but generous portions and well cooked. A really nice friendly pub. Really enjoyed the Southwold bitter.

Had lunch yesterday with our Grandson. We were made very welcome and the food and service were excellent. There is a very nice garden although it was pouring with rain so we couldn't use it. The whole place is very well presented and spacious with several different bar areas. It was our first visit but we will certainly return next time we are in the area.

Roast dinner was delicious - we all ordered differently and had the beef, pork & lamb. Vegetables are al dente, which I'm not keen on (but others will be) but it didn't ruin the meal at all. Meat was cooked perfectly, especially the lamb - so good. The roast comes with meat, roast potatoes, parsnip, Yorkshire pudding, veg & cauliflower cheese. Extra gravy is available too!Desserts were lovely - we had Eton mess, Brownie and Sticky toffee pudding. All the staff were lovely and friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Mum & I visited today for the first time, following a friend's recommendation. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Rob behind the bar. We ordered our drinks and then were shown to our table. We had a good choice of starters and main courses, however we just ordered the mains. Mum had the roast beef and I had the slow cooked lamb. The plates arrived with the meat, roast potatoes, parsnips and gravy. (We had advised them that Mum didn't like onions or onion flavouring so they made her some separate gravy for her beef). They served cauliflower cheese, carrots, cabbage and broccoli in a separate dish. The lamb was to die for, it just fell apart, so lean and tasty in the rosemary gravy. Mum and I were in food heaven, savouring every mouthful. They cleared our plates and offered the dessert menu. We both choose the mango and coconut cheesecake.... so smooth and creamy. All desserts were homemade. All the staff were friendly and checked that everything was ok during our meal. We really didn't feel like this was our first visit as everyone was so welcoming. We liked it so much that we've booked a return visit.

We called in here to have a drink and use the toilet on our visit to Peterborough show ground. We loved the look of the pub and decided lunch was on the cards. The pub was very clean and had such a lovely setting and furniture which made it homely. We were taken to a table straight away and ordered drinks and got menus. The pub was busy but we weren't delayed in ordering or receiving our meal. It was thoroughly enjoyable and everyone was so helpful. We sadly didn't have time to stop and play but the new garden looks brilliant. Thank you. Xx

So impressed! Have been here a couple of times and they are so friendly and helpful, literally couldn't do more to help you- its lovely. We came for Sunday dinner this week and changed numbers last minute - they did all they could to accommodate the extra people including putting out a high hair and also dominoes for the little person to play with -a lovely touch. The food was amazing, one of the best roasts I've had locally. We will be back to sample more of the menu for sure. Great selection of beer and cider - everyone in our party was happy. Decor is nice too - seriously what is not to like? Just wish we lived closer to be honest! X

My wife and I dropped in last night because the Landlord had previously said that he would display a leaflet about saving the Black Horse pub in Dry Drayton. Anyway, we were served by the Landlord who we hadn't previously met and he said that we need more pubs, and he gladly took our leaflets. The real ale beers where served directly from the barrel which is the way it should be. I had a pint of real ale and my wife wanted cider but couldn't decide what one to have. The Landlord immediately offered her both to taste first. Two drinks less than a fiver very good value. We then decided that as we hadn't eaten yet, to have a meal. We were shown to a table and given a menu. The menu wasn't vast which to me is very good sign and prices were mostly under £10. Doing a small menu well is more important. My wife had the fish special and I had the traditional beef lasagna. Both were excellent, without being overly seasoned. After overhearing someone say the cheese cake was good we decided to share one. Again we weren't disappointed. I can say that this was the best pub food we have had in a very long time.So thank you White Swan, you are doing everything right and we will be back soon to enjoy another meal and drink with you. We hope that if we are successful in purchasing the Black Horse as a community pub then we could offer the quality and value that you are offering your customers in this lovely friendly pub.Well done you are doing everything right :-)

As we were a large party, our hostess had got the menu to pre-order our meals & save time. This worked very well & although we were later getting to the table than planned, the right dishes all appeared with the minimum delay & no fuss.My seafood & mango salad was excellent - an unusual but delicious combination- & to judge by the silence which fell & the clean plates which went back to the kitchen, everyone else must have felt the same.It was even dog-friendly & my little Yorkshire terrier enjoyed it too!

Another visit to the Swan. Once again all staff were top notch and Carol in the restaurant was great. I like the fact that the menu is on one page of A4 yet contained a big selection of choices. The Brioche bun with very rare beef and horseradish was great. price wise, I have no complaints as it is great value.
