Went to lunch on Friday lunchtime at the hardwicke arms while walking around the wimpole estate with my partner. Suberb! Although the bar seemed quiet we received very personal service. I had the Hamm, egg and chips which were some of the best chips I have tasted. My partner had a salmon and crayfish baked potato which was quite unusual. Both meals were decent size portion s and were delicious. The bar also has a gin the which had some unusual flavours Pity I was driving.... would certainly return if in the area again

Shame as this pub was always so welcoming. The Bartender was rude, used his fingers to put in the Lime into my bottle of beer, common sense suggests you don’t do that. Whilst we were sitting having our drink he was swearing at another member of staff not what you want to hear. Lacks atmosphere. The previous landlords always welcomed you with open arms and were friendly and approachable. Although the pub now has nice decor and a Christmas tree that’s it. Such a shame, maybe if staff changed and weren’t so rude and used basic hygiene skills it might be worth bothering with

Booked for Sunday lunch, why we booked is beyond me as the place was empty. The chaps behind the bar were friendly enough, but the bar had no atmosphere. We ordered two beef roast dinners, which came out very quickly. The meat was tough and had no flavour, the Yorkshire puddings were very small and not sure if homemade, roast potato not crispy and some vegetables. The gravy well this was the let down for me absolutely disgusting so bland and full of pepper. We paid £12.95 each which was overpriced for a below average meal. Please do not waste your money.

As this pub : hotel is under new ownership, we thought we would give it a try. They were busy moving furniture when we arrived - it was a Thursday evening. They do have a restaurant - but it’s not really used.... the bar is where it’s at. Use a drinks coaster to stop your table wobbling. It was a bit like being in a friend’s house. Lots of chat - but hard to work out who was a client and who was family. Customer service was soft key. I don’t mind this - but some might. (Compare to the Red House in Longstowe - completely different experience). Red House spent 2 yrs remodelling. Hod knows how you are ever going to turn a profit with that outage. Hardwick just changed the management. Physically - nothing changed. The menu is limited and what they do - they do VERY WELL. 10/10 for food! The chef is attentive and interactive. Again 10/10. He knows his craft. I can recommend the fishcakes and my wife had the Hunters chicken. Chef came out and told us how long we would wait (food is cooked to order) *****. We took his offer of some garlic bread while we were waiting. (No idea if we paid for it as the bill isn’t itemised.). (£46 for a 2 course dinner for 2 plus drinks is ok for me).

Called in for lunch. Only 1 lager and 1 bitter available on tap. Menu - no mussels, sea bream, ham, soup etc. etc. Come on get a grip, the sign says under new management, not good, sorry. Felt sorry for the waitress. Once we found what was available it wasn't great. However, the bar area does look much better for a lick of paint.

Stopped off for some food had 2 dogs with us so put in a back part of the pub, the area was dingy and tables only had a white cloth on, no condiments and a pot with the worn knifes and forks in, no ambiance to the place at all. The food took over half an hour to come out and we were the only ones eating there at the time!! After asking if the food was coming out we eventually got it 10 mins later minus certain items that we should had. The tuna salad was very basic and missing the green beans, no olives or capers, my burger meal was minimal and not appetising at all hence missing the bacon and cheese, overall a terrible experience and would advise anyone to avoid this place. The whole place is very unwelcoming

Dropped in here for a lunchtime sandwich. Ordered the tuna mayo which included some chips. Given the price I was expecting more than 2 slices of your standard sliced brown loaf filled with tuna plus a few chips and a little bit of salad. The food tasted fine but I was left with an underwhelmed feeling. My friends ordered main dishes and I wished I'd done the same.

Came for Easter Sunday Lunch. Wasn't quite sure what to expect as it had been some time since my last visit but I wasn't disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and very well presented. The staff were polite and friendly. Considering it is under new ownership and at the start of a refurbishment, it was clean and tidy, the tables were laid out nicely and there was ample seating. A nice atmosphere too. Well worth a visit.

My husband and I decided to try this pub for Sunday lunch as we have recently moved to the area. The carvery was probably the worst we have had. We could tell that the food had been sitting there all day, the potatoes were awful and old...I don’t even want to think about how long they had been sitting there for. The gravy was a slimey consistency with no flavour what so ever. The stuffing was like a slab of dog meat. It really was terrible and we should have known better from when we arrived and nobody was in there. Not one member of staff asked us how our meal was, needless to say we couldn’t eat it and will not be going back!

We visited during lunch time. I can quite honestly say it was the worst meals we've ever had. My husband had fish and chips. The fish smelled off and was dripping in oil with microwaved crusty mushy peas. It was inedible. The bar lady made us feel uncomfortable and was very over familliar with our child. There are no baby changing facilities and the bar lady (who also served food) was not sure where the disabled toilets were located. As we felt so uncomfortable, we just paid our bill quickly and left. Never again.

We stopped by looking for tea and some cake. The member of staff was clearly the only one on duty and advised that there was a limited menu as a result but nothing was too much trouble. We were served with tea and very tasty toasted tea cakes very promptly - very good sized teapot and lots of hot water to replenish it. She even checked she had achieved the right level of toasting for us! Excellent tea and excellent service!

Eating at the Hardwicke arms is rather like slipping into a comfortable sweater your gran knitted for you in 1979; it’s a bit baggy and certainly not stylish but you know it will keep you warm. The Sunday menu is simple and, it has to be said, retro. Starters are pate, soup, crayfish cocktail or garlic mushrooms on toast (which were quite tasty) and then the carvery which has beef, pork or turkey and the usual accompaniments. If you don’t want meat you can have a bit of salmon swimming in lemon butter. It was all fine, comfortable, familiar and inoffensive. Not worth a special trip but if you are in the area then it won’t do you any harm.

After a visit to Wimpole we looked at trip advisor to find somewhere nearby to eat. Unfortunately we relied on the reviews and ate here and it must rate as one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. It was Sunday so we had the carvery and I chose the beef which was tough and the vegetables selection consisted of just roast potatoes, boiled broccoli and carrots. For £12 each I expected more.

Visited here as it is close to Wimpole Hall. We were very much left to find where to sit ourselves. When the waitress came over to take our drinks order I explained I didn't know as I didn't have a menu. She returned with 2 A4sheets of paper on but no drinks. We just ordered a soft drink as had no idea what else was available! I had the carvery and my friend had Ham, Egg and Chips. Whilst I must admit they do not scrimp on the portion sizes, it is not nice enough to stuff yourself silly. My potatoes and yorkshires were clearly overcooked however the chef was beyond helpful when I cheekily asked for some crackling.

We were recommended by a friend to try their Sunday roast lunch. The venue looks lovely from the outside but the inside is a complete mismatch. The dining room looks permanently set for a wedding which just looks tacky. The Sunday roast turned out to be a carvery that had been sitting under foil for far too long. The meat was dry, vegetables boiled for so long that they had no flavour and the gravy can best be described as no-flavour brown water. The Yorkshires would have been great when they first came out of the oven but an hour or so later they were a combination of soggy and hard (thanks to the foil and time out of the oven). This place has the potential to be so good but it needs some major tweaks!. I was really looking forward to a great roast lunch and this failed to deliver on every level.

My husband and I visited this establishment for lunch as we were passing and it looked so lovely outside. When we arrived we were the only people in the restaurant, the menu looked good with specials available. I ordered a chicken and chorizo pasta dish and my husband ordered a special which was salmon with fennel. We were warned that everything was cooked fresh so it may take a while which we were fine with but as the only people there we didn't expect a wait of an hour! When the food eventually turned up it was a huge disappointment, my pasta was so over cooked it literally fell apart and the sauce was like water. My husbands dish was overlooked dry salmon with quite literally half a pot of dried fennel seeds cooked on the top of it (not what was expected and very overpowering). We didn't finish either dish and when our drinks were empty we had to seek a refil rather than being offered one despite us still being only 2 of 4 people in the whole place. The inside decor was also a huge disappointment, outside is beautiful but inside it was a mismatch of antiques in cabinets and a load of tacky decorations from the range/b&q or similar of coffee cups and other metal tat. This place promised so much and delivered so little.

We'd been to the hardwick arms several times before and generally good. The staff are great, polite and attentive.I phoned up and booked several weeks in advance for a 5 course Xmas eve meal.My son was coming to visit for the 1st time in 9 months and I'd told him how nice it was.Got there and was told sorry you can't have the Xmas eve meal as it needed to be pre booked. No body told us any of this on the phone when we booked! So although disappointed we ordered from the main menu.Big mistake! Have you changed your chef?Chips were pale and soft.Veg was over cooked and looked grey and unappetising.Garlic bread was dry and burnt.Macaroni cheese was tasteless and full of grease. My son chose the duck off of the specials board with a morello cherry sauce.Although he said the duck was tasty, he left all of the cherry sauce and that's because the chef had simply opened a tin of cherry pie filling and pored it over the duck! It was a congealed mess! Not what you'd expect of a £15 plate of food. I sent food back twice and complained several times but never was a manager called over and no adjustments were made to my bill!I'd have expected the meal free as non of us enjoyed it and it actually spoilt our Xmas eve.I was embarrassed to take my son there.

Where to begin? Went here for a Sunday lunch with my wife and all seemed to be going well as we waited for our 2 roasts. The first alarm bells started ringing when what looked very much like our meals came out and were given to a couple that were still eating their starters and looked confused at the mains arriving. After a wait we got the waiters attention to this and they apologised and went away to find out meals, then told us the beef we ordered was no longer available. Ok, so we went for turkey, we were accommodating to the mistake. After more waiting we were told there were no more roasts and was it ok with just new potatoes. At this point we asked to speak to the 'manager' and this is when the real fun started. How this woman can be classed as a manager of anything is beyond belief. Totally lacking in people skills or any understanding of customer services. No real apology and spent the time trying to explain how busy they were and how everyone else was happy. She got progressively more offensive and when we got up to leave she had the nerve to accuse us of theft if we didn't pay for our drinks. Worst. Service. Ever. Avoid this total joke of a dumpy backwater pub like the plague.

We had a family get together at the Hardwicke Arms. Eight of us turned up late-ish on Sunday lunch time after failing to get a table at a nearby restaurant. The Sunday menu is a three meat - beef, pork and/or turkey - choice carvery, but there was a fish and vegetarian option. The prices range from £11 for one course, £13 for two or £15 for three courses. We all had the two course option, main and pudding. The food wasn't overly hot, but we put that down to our late arrival. It was however, tasty and plentiful. The drinks prices were good and the Doombar beer was excellent. We were seated in one of the many (?) small rooms that took our groups table and there was no one else in that room, although the main dining area was quite busy. The staff were nice, friendly and helpful but it would have been a little better with more of them. Would I go again - definitely.

Preordered our food after attending a local firework display given there were 12 of us. On arrival, we were sent to our table ( directly placed outside the toilets) even though there was plenty of room to have placed us elsewhere. No drinks were offered and eventually after waiting 15 minutes, we orchestrated our own written list of refreshments which we took to the bar. When the drinks order eventually arrived, the wine we ordered was missing and we had to ask twice before it finally came. Only one person appeared to be serving in the restaurant, therefore each course was bought out two plates at a time, with a short delay between each, meaning the first people to receive their food had to wait 5-10 minutes for the last people received theirs, making their food cold. The standard of the food was very mixed - several dishes were over cooked but barely warm - e.g. the lasagne was so hard on top you couldn't get a knife through it, and unfortunately 2 or our party were ill overnight, thus drawing further suspicion on the food. The service was not good, although given that it appeared that only one person was caring for the restaurant, it is hardly surprising that she struggled to care for everyone in a timely manner. Overall we were bitterly disappointed with the overall experience, and our group were in agreement that it wouldn't be an establishment that we would be visiting anytime soon.

A group of us go out every three or four weeks for lunch, choosing a pub not too far away. Its usually a two to three hour sojourn so atmosphere as well as beer and food is important! This month it was the Hardwicke Arms, on the old roman road in Arrington it is an old rambling building that has definitely seen better days but that belies the the welcome once inside. The bar and eating areas are all on different levels with Tables spread across three main areas so there should never be any shortage of space to sit and eat plus the bar has a couple of sofas if you should feel inclined.there are good local brews on offer (plus Doombar) and the menu is built on good pub fare and not as expensive as some of the local competition! The specials board reflects its proximity to Wimpole Hall with items such as pigeon breast and venison.Along with several of the others I had steak and kidney pie whilst one had Lamb and another the pigeon and the overwhelming impression is good food locally sourced. .The order was promptly served, hot and plenty of it on the plate. All in all a good choice of venue and we will be back!
