The White Swan in Herefordshire, County of

First night in Eardisland and wanting a decent evening meal. The Swan welcomed us in providing a small but reasonable menu. Good and friendly service. Food well presented and delicious. Good sized portions and good value.

Fab big breakfast great home cooked food Landlord very polite and welcoming making you feel at home. We also had afternoon drunks with some locals all of which welcomed us. Deffo worth a stop if in area . Pub welcomes bikers, dogs, family ideal. Thanks Tim made our break away great

Good atmosphere, dog friendly , seperate bar for those who are adverse to dogs , highly recommend and a garden as well for when we have a summer and a covered area as well

Sat in the beer garden for drinks, the waiter was friendly and kindly brought menus outside for when he thought we were going to eat. To be honest the outside looked a little tatty which was a shame. Plus we also decided not to eat and didn’t go back but it did start to fill up so seemed popular

Terrible place, very rude barman, no food, below average beer. Could be a gold mine as the village is stunning. One towel in toilet to dry hands for everyone! Dont bother going. You’ll thank me later.

Staff were very chatty and friendly and kept coming over to see if we needed anything. Food was average, gammon was okay but lamb was tough and grizzly. Plenty of chips and was all piping hot. Seemed a bit expensive for what we got but overall nice enough.

Popped in today with my partner for a drink. We arrived to a quiet bar with one gentleman sat at the bar we were “greeted” by a very hostile male behind the bar who was clearly inconvenienced by our custom. He was cold, unwelcoming and miserable, and we felt immediately like we shouldn’t be there. Conversing with a person at our campsite today, he asked what we had done with our day, when we explained where he had been, he said he wouldn’t go in there because of the same miserable server. I have since gone on reviews here and can see they are consistent with the “welcome” we received today. If you are the landlord of this pub, dismiss him, he clearly is doing nothing for your business. If the landlord is the same server today at 2.30pm, stick a smile on it, it could simply increase your turnover…..substantially.

Unfriendly welcome from bartender. Accused me of stealing cutlery. Food was bland and bartender forgot the vegetables

Went in for drinks and maybe lunch. There was a non existent welcome from the bar person, I came to the opinion that we’d interrupted something. We were obviously late for Sunday dinner, so that wasn’t an option. I ordered our drinks, my pint needed a top up, as the pint measure is too the top of the glass, not an inch below (bring back imperial glasses) I asked if he would mind topping it up, he begrudgingly did so. The atmosphere in the pub was non existent, so we didn’t bother having another drink, and left once we’d finished our drinks. We wouldn’t go there again.

What a miserable unfriendly landlord .hardly said 2 words. Only 1 other couple in there. No atmosphere. Very dissapointed. Won't be going back and certainly don't recommend it either. Perhaps he doesn't like visitors.

Check the bar prices before you order your drinks we were charged £4.50 for pint of beer ,ok expensive but not to bad,but £8.00 for a small glass of white wine thats being ripped off!!, by the way the food was nice and reasonable price. but wont be going back

Been staying in Eardisland this week and have visited the pub every night, the owner and his staff are very friendly and helpful. Bonus for us as well that’s its dog friendly! We had a couple of meals and it was excellent. Would highly recommend this to place!

My family and I went to The White Swan for Sunday lunch and had a fantastic time. The food was delicious, with great vegetarian options too! Loved the community-feel of the pub. Everyone was so welcoming, great atmosphere, great staff with lots of laughter and smiles all round. Will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Eardisland. The White Swan is a credit to the village! Tim and the team were fantastic. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are taking a trip to Eardisland!

This is a nice pub although very old. We stopped off for a drink before heading home to Monmouth. The staff were very pleasant and friendly on our arrival and we enjoyed our drinks sitting in the snug. A nice ending in this pretty village to our Black and White villages trail.

We love visiting Eardisland but our usual venues for refreshments were closed so we called at the 'White Swan . To say the landlord is not 'a people person' hits the nail on the head . Coffee was not available as 'the machine was broken' and not willing to put the kettle on for tea. Friends had cold drinks and we sat in the garden which had dog poo in it despite us being the first customers of the day . No cake/biscuits available either.

For a start the menu consisted of about 4 burgers and nothing else. My friend and I ordered the vegetarian burger and I wanted coleslaw, which was on the menu - no coleslaw available. My friend's chips were tasteless and dry so probably frozen. The burgers were lukewarm and would probably have been ok if they were hot and if I'd wanted a burger in the first place. We should have walked out when we saw how dingy and grubby the place looked and the excuse for a menu but stuck it out and went to Ritas Tearooms next door for a pudding. The White Swan should not be open to paying customers.

Wouldn’t eat here again Sunday lunch was terrible bragged beef up on phone one slice on plate but chewy veg was so crunchy not cooked 5 French beans few carrots peas and to top it off frozen Yorkshire pudding not good sevice no customer care not good better lunch from supermarket

Visited while staying in the area, we booked for 6pm dinner. We turned up early, for a few drinks beforehand. Met with a surly attitude, anything was too much trouble for the landlord. My autistic son was searching for the gents, met with sarcastic comments from the landlord, 'are you looking for the toilets? They are where it says toilets', obvious even for an autistic lad. I thought i would even try to engage with the landlord, thinking perhaps not being from the area, a bit of a locals pub. To no avail. Ludlow Brewery beer is great, when kept well. Warm Ludlow Gold, cloudy Best. We were then told we 'must bring our glasses back to the bar'. We do anyway, but to be dictated to, doesn't exactly endear the landlord to the customers. After this 'greeting', we decided to check on availability next door for food, but we're fully booked, no wonder this place is empty. We left without food, we didn't even order. We decided on a BBQ, went and fetched food and cooked ourselves. The kitchen looked awful, didn't want chance it if beer can't even be kept correctly. Shame really. Lovely village, go to the Cross in, where the staff are friendly, and above all, the garden is clean and cared for. Again, no wonder the Swan was empty.

Driving through Eardisland we stopped for a drink and received such a warm, friendly welcome from the landlord, we decided to have Sunday lunch too. I chose the beef and was not disappointed. It was cooked to perfection, and my husband said his turkey was very good too. Plenty of vegetables that were also cooked just right. Our dogs were not happy when we got home as the beef was too good to share! We will return! AT £15 a head it was very good value.

It was a hot day so perhaps they can be excused. No food available, quite rude and unfriendly so quickly moved on to Kingsland where the pubs and welcome were lovely.

When I rang to book our Sunday lunch (18/06/23) as we were holidaying in the area for a few days. I was informed that they were well known for their Sunday Lunches. I assumed the gent meant in a positive way not a negative one. Sadly it was a negative experience we had. We ordered the Roast Beef it was that or Roast Gammon. But both my wife and I found 3/4 of our beef was tough and unable to cut with the knife let alone chew. Thankfully they allow dogs in and having taken our dog with us she had most of the beef as she does not have the same concerns about tough and fatty beef. The staff were pleasant enough but sadly our Sunday lunch left a lot to be desired. I explained to a member of staff about the beef and the fact we had to feed it to the dog as we were unable to eat it and he said he had passed on our comments. To whom I have no idea?. I assume he felt paying £15 a head to feed most of the meat to your dog was acceptable. We were not. So as you can expect we will not bother going back again for Sunday lunch. I can not comment on any of their other food as it was the first and sadly last time we are likely to go there.

We had originally been booked in elsewhere and due to the chef walking out we were left with nowhere to eat.. After a quick walk across the road we enquired to see if they could accommodate us.. The bar staff and manager couldn't have been more helpful.. A table for 6 was quickly set up.. We had beautiful fish and chips with peas and 2 children's menus.. Visited the absolutely beautiful village of Eardisland and came across the White Swan. We went in to see a 1600s interior full of interesting features. We had a drink in the pretty garden and just had to come back for a meal. The owner Tim is very welcoming and shows he appreciates your custom and is quite a character. The barman and waitress were very pleasant. Are back for another drink and shall return. Thanks Tim.

Lovely and hospitable. After a day of being told only one person allowed in and we won’t speak to you without masks this was a breathe of fresh air, relaxed and charming landlord who introduced us to the local gin.

A lovely old fashioned homely pub with welcoming staff, good ale and food and which helped make a trip to the unspoilt village of Eardisland more special. Our best local in the area. Notable for its own beer (Red Leg bitter) and very good choice of wines. Excellent outside garden to rear and benefit of attached marquee to side if rainy. Other great attraction is the Fish & Chip evenings. EXCELLENT real "Fish Shop" style & not cheffy/restaurant type - delicious and very good value.

Me and my partner stayed in the village for 2 nights, we visted this pub for food and drinks. The food was really nice and the staff were really welcoming and friendly. We would definitely recommend anyone to visit the village and The White Swan.

Been visiting the swan for the past 10 years seen it improve year on year Tim the owner has done great job in that time just had Xmas lunch in there with my wife the food was fab second to none great old pub in a great friendly village would recommend it for five stars anytime

We ate at the White Swan on Thursday evening for superb fish and chips, and only what fantastic value at just £6.50 for a huge portion. We then went back on Friday for lunch and dinner, again superb the steak and ale pie yummy yummy yummy. Saturday again lunch and dinner, we had fish and chips again they were so good on Thursday. The beer batter is so crisp and the fish fresh, the beer is the landlord Tim's own brew. This brings me to the next point, the beer is superb we were drinking beer jolais, a light golden brew that's so good you just glug it back. This one of Tim's home brews, the other that I sampled was red leg. A darker beer with lovely hoppy fuller flavour. And finally the last piece of this brilliant local pub, the team that run it. Tim is very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and every guest is appreciated. Tim has found a gem, a great barman will get to know his customers and make them feel special, like family Chip or Chippy does this. We loved our long weekend, so much so we are back before Christmas for another. If you are in Eardisland pop in for fantastic food, brilliant beer and awesome service.Thanks teamJon and Viv

We stopped at Arrow Bank for half term. In what’s been a strange year this was our only holiday. The weather wasn’t great but the pub made up for it. We received a nice welcome from the landlord and his team and the fish and chips were amazing. He brews his own beer and the green hops ale was brilliant. Can’t wait to go back in May. If you go to Eardisland show them your support you won’t be disappointed.

We were staying at Arrow Bank touring park Eardisland and booked a meal at the White. We had the fish and chips and the gammon. Food excellent but big portions covering whole plate we booked a Sunday lunch there too and were not disappointed. We had the Smaller portion this time of the pork and the beef followed desert. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We hope to return next year.

Visited the White Swan whilst staying at Arrowbank Caravan Park for weekend. Popped in for drink Friday afternoon, very welcoming and really nice atmosphere, old fashioned cosy pub. Booked a table for Sat night to eat. We were not disappointed, our Garlic mushrooms starters followed by fabulous Fish and Chips with mushy peas. Again lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff we thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will be back in future. Thank you Tim and team.

Stayed at the excellent Arrow Bank camping site .From here it is a 10 minit walk to the White Swan in the very picturesque village of Eardisland. We had booked a table for 4 in advance.We had a friendly greeting an were seated at a pleasant round table In a very nice dining area.The meue was not large offering the usual pub fare.We all chose the fish and chips which turned out to be excellent.Real ale was bread on site by the landlord this too was excellent. All in all a very good experience.Qell done White Swan in difficult times.

Had a drink on a Friday evening, went back on the Saturday for food. Both evening’s made very welcome. I had fish and chips the batter was so crispy, light and the fish lush. My husband had scampi and chips . Lovely meal, lovely people.

Fish & chip Thursday ~ September 2020 ~ B R I L L I A N TOrdered in advance, arrived a bit early in order to have a pint of the wonderful Atlantic Pale Ale from Sharp's Brewery ~ lovely !Fish and chips takeaway delivered to us in the outside covered seating area ~ friendly and polite service.Rush "home" and it's still piping hot, no swimming in oil, dry crispy crunchy batter and beautifully cooked fish. Non greasy crunchy chips ~ better than almost all Chip shops which tend to be oily and floppy in comparison.The White Swan F&C Thursday is already popular and with Covid rules and regulations, the takeaway options is going to get more popular.Book in advance otherwise you could be disappointed, but the Sharp's Atlantic is worth travelling for.

A lovely well cooked meal and friendly efficient staff! Would reccommend! A selection of starters and mains and desserts if you can fit one in as meals were very filling and plenty of it!

We have been visiting the White Swan for 2 years now and always have a very warm welcome from Tim the Landlord, his wife Lorna and staff Chip love it. We had Sunday lunch with a mouth watering choice of roast beef or roast turkey, lovely selection of veg, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots and peas and great roasters. It was all delicious. Really enjoyed our evening here whilst staying at Arrow Bank. Two nice steaks with all the trimmings, several glasses of red wine and a few pints ( including a green hop brewed on the premises) £60. Nice friendly pub. Returning December.

I cannot put into words how good the food was! Absolutely amazing best food I’ve eaten out in a long time warm and friendly welcome will definitely be visiting again from wales.

Garden looked lovely which is a positive. Staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the charge of £10 per childs meal (which we didn't know before ordering) was extreme for a plate of bland nuggets and chips. Quiche pastry wasnt cooked and there no veg to be seen in it despite it being a vegetable quiche. My soft drink was weak and flat. Fish and chips were nice though. Menus weren't paper and replaceable despite covid. 'chef' came out between cooking with no chefs whites, apron, hat etc..

This pub sits in Eardisland which in itself is an ancient village with many timbered buildings. The pub is hundreds of years old with sections added over the centuries and behind it is a large car park and lovely garden area. The landlord and staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We ate there one night and although the menu is limited, what we had was cooked well and served hot which was important to us.

Found this pub on Sunday while camping and it was a delight. Arrived with 5 kids and a dog and the owner and staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Brilliant selection of drinks and a lovely beer garden with toys for the kids. Inside the pub is homely and traditional will 100% be back and can’t recommend highly enough. Our visit to The White Swan was our first night out after lockdown. You can see from the photos it was a lovely evening. The staff made us feel extremely safe and welcome. Even my little dog, Brie, felt at home. It's a beautiful pub. The food was FAB. If you are visiting the area, I would highly recommend stopping for a pint and a bite here.

Tim and his staff have done a fantastic job of reopening following the COVID pandemic. The place looks amazing and the new outside bar and marquee sea are brilliant for social distancing. The rear garden is also a great space Food is great as always Can’t wait to visit every week now we can!

Excellent country pub, with friendly staff. Home brewed beer on sale, made on the premises. Bar meals and restaurant meals available. Food is excellent quality, cooked to perfection, whether eating in the bar or restaurant area. Highly recommended.Lovely outside seating area available in the summer.We use this pub frequently, and are always made to feel welcome.

Thanks to Tim, Lorna and Chip for a fabulous Christmas Day lunch. The turkey and beef were cooked to perfection with such generous portions that we needed a doggy bag (which went down a treat with the pets).

This extremely friendly, unpretentious local village pub, with magnificently welcoming host (who brews his own superb beers) and affable clientele. It is all that is best about pub life.

We have been to this place several times and always have a great night. Food is good and they will accommodate any specific requests even if it’s not on the menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. We visited the White Swan whilst staying at Arrowbank for our annual Christmas family get together. All of our meals were pre-ordered as there was a large group of us. Firstly my soup was cold in pockets and hot in others, typical of microwaved soup - but tasted ok once stirred but it reminded me of tinned vegetable soup. The steaks then came out with chips, an onion ring, mushrooms and tomato. The vinegar on the tables was off, it looked like it had been in the bottle for years! Whilst getting ready to eat a few of us noticed a distinct odour that I can only describe as rotting flesh. We cut the meat and the smell from the steak knocked us sick. The steak was bad/spoiled. From this point on none of us could continue to eat, even the steaks that didn’t smell bad as the ‘smell’ was at this point up our noses so to speak. The barman came over and said they were fresh and seemed perplexed as to why we was complaining. He went to fetch the owner who advised he liked his steaks well hung. Some of these steaks were completely off. He did offer and replaced the steaks but we couldn’t continue with the evening and cancelled deserts. The barman was also rude when we asked for drinks, he said ‘I’m busy serving!’ We was the only people in the pub! There was no music for ambience, the whole experience was terrible and the food was not cheap. No reduction offered. We cancelled puddings and also cancelled Sunday lunch the following day.We won’t be eating there again, we’ll stick to the Cross Inn next door where our mealson Friday were delicious.

Made table booking only half an hour in advance and staff are so pleasant. Ordered off the bar menu this time and let me tell you the burgers my partners and I had were out of this world. Can't wait to get another one on friday and booking a main menu evening meal some time before christmas. So chilled such a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are brilliant Great banter, pleasant and will do anytbing to help. See you on Friday. We spent the weekend in the village with friends. This pub is full of charm. The landlord and staff were very welcoming. The food was excellent and locally produced and the home brewed beer was lovely. We had such a great time we booked to come back for New Year.

Nothing too much trouble, wonderful welcome, amazing food. Seven of us and all our meals were perfect, service with lots of smiles and laughs. It was so good, we all went back again five days later. Different food ordered, everything just as first visit - perfect in every way - Thank you

Bumped into the landlord Tim when expecting to go into the village tea shop and after a brief conversation we couldn’t turn him down! Popped in for a swift half which turned into 2 pints and a rugby match each. Then we went back later for supper. Excellent burgers and steaks, all freshly prepared and cooked. Really good welcome, friendly service, nothing too much trouble. Going back in the morning to watch another rugby match - WALES !!

Nothing is to much trouble for Tim and his Team. Cannot recommend them highly enough. A real family pub where my two girls are always welcome.

we went here for a sunday roast while on holiday in pembridge there was 7 of us and enjoyed the meal so much we went back in the week for fish and chips it has a lovely garden and friendly staff and we give it a big thumbs up

Stopped on our way home to break the journey. The service was excellent, very efficient and friendly. The pub has a beautiful garden as well as plenty of space inside. It's a quirky old building and despite it being very busy we didn't have long to wait for our perfectly cooked fish and chips-served on newspaper!

Spent a lovely few days in the beautiful village of Eardisland mid July 2019 lovely friendly local people and had the pleasure of visiting the White Swan Pub. The landlord Tim was very welcoming and Chip the barman/waiter was very accommodating and couldn’t do enough for you. Had wonderful meals on two consecutive nights and if like me you like a steak this is the place. All in all a smashing traditional pub with excellent food and staff. Would recommend a visit.

We booked for a family of 8.We asked for a 5 minutes warning as we were sat out side in the beautiful beer garden. There was a clean high chair for the litte one. Even though we all ordered bar meals we were in the restaurant. The children's food was on cold plates which is perfect for little one. The food was very good fresh and very tasty all homemade. Everybody cleaned their plates.

Having never visited this area before, trip advisor suggested this would be a good place to visit and the fantastic app didn’t disappoint.

We had a lunchtime meal for 12 today following my dad's funeral. Tim, the owner, very kindly let us have the dining room to ourselves. The food was excellent as was the service and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much Tim, Lorna and Chip for making a difficult day easier to bear

We had my wife’s 70th birthday and she requested a celebration at the Swan. It was the right decision, We had 14 great 3 course meals and every one really enjoyed it. Thank you Tim and your team for a really great evening. We will be back later this year.

Cracking pub with on site beers made by the pubs landlord Tim they are a credit to him can’t say any thing. About the food but by the looks of it that looks good as well

Great traditional public house, there isn't many about!

Visited this evening sat 4th may I had fish and chips and my husband had the gammon and both meals were delicious

We visited last week. Lovely meals from the spring menu and excellent service. Had a great welcome. Friendly owner and staff. Will definitely be back!

We began our holiday in the white swan on Thursday evening. We were all made to feel very welcome and felt at home right away. We were looked after very well especially considering there was 13 of us! We called in again on the Friday and received once again an outstanding service. The rain was heavy so that evening that Tim even offered to give some of us a lift home to save us getting soaked. What a lovely man! Again we were warmly welcomed and again felt at ease right away. We booked in for the Saturday evening for a meal in the restaurant and were catered for excellently. We were made a special sharing starter with no bother at all and Tim even made a special homemade peppercorn sauce for the steak dish. All of the food was cooked outstandingly and was truly delicious and the deserts were just brilliant.The timings were also perfect which must have been tricky due to the large number of people they were catering for and this was gratelly appriciated. Overall the meal was outstanding and certainly helped make our holiday. Due to the fantastic service received and friendly atmosphere we all were in agreement in deciding to book again for Sunday lunch the following day. The lunch was cooked perfectly and the deserts were outstanding. A great atmosphere and great service received allowed to us all to truly fee at ease and enjoy our holiday. We loved every moment we spent in the white swan and all would like to thank Tim and the staff greatly. THIS IS HOW TO RUN A PUB! Thank u all so much. Strongly recommend this service! We visited The White Swan this evening to try Tim’s Thursday fish n chips night. Would highly recommend, the fish was the best I have had in a long time.

Splashed out this weekend, had take away fish n chips Thursday, they were lovely. Meal out Friday, again exceptional, and Sunday lunch, cannot complain about anything, the food really nice, staff excellent and polite, the landlord takes a personal,interest in his customers,

Called into the White Swan on a Thursday night and decided to try their Fish & Chip supper for £6.50 It was, without doubt, the best fish & chips I have ever tasted. The home made beer batter was crisp, and the fish just melted in the mouth. I would recommend this without hesitation and will definitely be returning.
