We stayed in Ludlow in March and ate at the Red Lion on a trip to Leominster during the week. The food was excellent. We were down this way again and decided to book for Sunday lunch for the 4 of us. We were again made to feel so welcome by the warm and friendly staff and the service is excellent as is the quality of the food. The portions are generous but we made sure that we ate it all as it was too good to leave anything on the plates. We all agreed this Sunday lunch is one of the best we have ever had. We will definitely return to the White Lion when we are down this was again. The only issue we have is that we just wish it was closer to home so we could visit more often. Massive thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

We had a lovely family meal to celebrate 2 birthdays. The food was great and the staff really nice.

Absolutely superb! Booked a table here for Sunday lunch as we were passing through around 1pm on our way back to Wales from Chester. Weren't sure what to expect but from the moment we stepped in we were looked after, all staff really friendly and pleasant! Sat in a nice dining area of the pub, and didn't have to wait long for food to come out. The meals were amazing, big portions and the meat just melted in your mouth. I loved that everything was home cooked, jus gravy, homemade Yorkies, the roasties were fluffy yet still crispy. And 10/10 for including a cauliflower cheese with it - you don't get that too often anymore and I love it what pubs think to do it! ☺️ It was a top notch Sunday roast, we loved it all. A fair price, something like £14.95 beef, £16.95 lamb, but if you had al 4 meats (lamb, turkey, pork, beef) I think it was £18.95 and on a bigger plate. Just look at my photos though, trust me you won't be disappointed!!

The staff were absolutely lovely, incredibly welcoming and helpful. The food was also really good and great value for money. If we lived closer we’d definitely be regulars!

Unfortunately I’ll have to give my experience with the White Lion a 1 star. We were very disappointed as it had really good reviews online. We came here for a Sunday roast and ordered lamb, however the meat was very dry to the point it did not taste like lamb. The portion of the vegetables were very small and overcooked, the roast potatoes were not crispy (they tasted like boiled potatoes). Staff were polite and warm, however did not ask us how our meal was, therefore was not able to give the feedback.

An impromptu lunch for 7 people on a Wednesday afternoon. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was incredible with a particular favourite being the Gammon and Stilton Sauce with the added bonus of homemade chunky chips. Happy and friendly Staff who made you feel very welcome. Garden fantastic for children and well kept.

We came to watch Novak Djokovic win the Wimbledon semi final. The screen and table were well sighted in a corner and very comfortable. The food was excellent, especially the lasagne and the service was welcoming snd friendly. Very good value for money too.

Don't bother, we travelled 15 miles for Sunday lunch, only to be told they stop serving food at 2.30 pm, ridiculous!!

Wouldn't provide our motorcycle club with food even though we had precooked.

I'm one of the guests who was in the pub when the motorcycles turned up , it was one of them who was kicking off, swearing and being rude it's really embarrassing for the others. It's a lovely place with lovely people they don't need something like this!!!

Went looking for a classic pub meal while staying nearby and the White Lion hit the mark. We had a Chicken Burger and Gammon & Chips. Everything was cooked well and the portion sizes were good value. Staff were friendly.

We were going to stop in Leominster to break our journey and picked White Lion for lunch based on reviews. Very pleasant staff and excellent service, even thoughbm v.busy on a Bank Holiday lunchtime. I had beef lasagne and my wife had scampi w/extra fried eggs. Both meals good quality and of good size. Chips worthy of a special mention - delicious. Quick tips: 1) the White Lion has a sizeable car park, so try here first before parking elsewhere, and; 2) though spacious, it may be worth booking at busy periods (evenings/weekends).

Seven members of my family pre-booked the table. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Layout and space on the table was clean and spacious. Service was great. The beer garden allowed the little one's to run of energy in the sunshine.

We stopped off and ate there with our pack of ridgebacks. Really helpful friendly staff. Good food. And massively dog friendly. Well done white lion !!

Went for Sunday lunch and it was delicious. Generous size. We ate in the garden as it was a nice day. Nice for kids as they had a play area.

Booked a table in the restaurant which was accepted, however on arrival told there was a private function , although we were top of the page in the booking diary, we were given a table in the restaurant, drinks and meal ordered, also had a meal the evening before and nothing was mentioned, Land Lady arrived and told we could not stay in the restaurant but could move into the noisy bar , she explained that they can not promise seating in the restaurant when you book, we left and will never return

If you look any any negative review you can see the same unprofessional and defensive response. 'Wife' assume you have gone on some creepy social medium stalk to work that one out.... 😬 how pathetic/odd. This is not 'bullying' it's a genuin review to inform people of a place to avoid if they have reasonable standards. I have to say this place was the absolute worst place we have ever eaten at. First of all the decor was incredibly strange and out of date, the mish mash of modern floral decor with sticky brown pub and the Christmas cushions was rather odd.Toilets falling to pieces. Grease literally sliming down the outside walls by the Extractor (probably need a clean or maintainance). The 'homemade' food is as far from that as possible. I'm sure trading standard's would have have something to make about this false claim. The 'steak burger' was the most foamy, solid, iceland-frozen piece of 'meat' I have ever come across. If you love your meat to be solid and smelling this death, then I highly recommend. I'd personally take a microwave rustlers over that any day. If you idea of a 'chip' or 'onion ring' is a half a bottle of oil then this is the place to be . Even better is jarred sausages and tinned peas that come with the mixed grill. Honestly never had anything to unique on a plate. We didn't see a point in complaining about the food when every item on the entire menu is vile. This place could really do with going on Ramsays Hells kitchens because that's was it is. If you hate good food then I recommend you come here. .

Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great from our experience. Very oily chips, along with cheap ingredients, made for an unpleasant meal for a few of us in the party. Would probably only pop back for a drink based on this. Staff were pleasant, however, and attended to us well.

Spent weekend in Leominster ,we called at the White Lion ,although they were very busy with a party ,they very kindly accommodated us ,and would highly recommend the food ,especially the mixed grill,will be definitely be using again Kind regards Steve H.and family

We booked the whole dining space for a group of 23 people and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and evening. Nina was very patient and accommodating throughout our planning phase and there were lots of options for our varied dietary requirements. Portions were plentiful and food very tasty, and all served with a smile. Thank you!

Called in here for an early evening meal and although it was quite busy out in the garden area, it was fairly quiet in the bar area so we opted to have our meal there. On the plus side, quick service from the two very friendly and helpful girls. What we had was delicious with good portion sizes and excellent value. Apart from Wetherspoons and the Ethnic restaurants, there is nowhere else in town to get an evening meal. This place more than makes up for that and can be recommended. On the minus side, perhaps we should have eaten in the restaurant side of the pub as there were a few drinkers at the bar and a few who came in from the garden to be served, using foul language without any thought or consideration for other customers. Has Lockdown made people forget how to behave properly in public or is it now considered to be socially acceptable to behave like this? Not somewhere I would like to have taken my daughters / grandchildren.

Hidden behind a new build of houses this place is your typical timber white wash structure with plenty of outside space Inc a large screen and children's play area. The food was slightly disappointing and the home made hand cut chips were a bit undercooked. The ham in the sandwiches was the wafer thin sliced type with no taste or texture, but all in all an average meal with a fair price tag.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and was so surprised at what the enterprising owners have done. It is no wonder that this is now so popular. We were served surprisingly soon by a most charming young lady with a smile so big it made my day! The meal was very nicely laid out with more than adequate veggies, sauces etc. All in all very good. A very good atmosphere, very professional head of house (owner) who asked all guests if all was well giving time even though rushed off her feet! Outside photos give you the idea of what a friendly family oriented place it is.

Visited whilst on holiday in the area. Dad, sister and I opted for 'mini' Mixed Grill. Wow! Loads of meat, very tender and the chips are to die for!!! Unfortunately, so full didn't have room for dessert. Staff very friendly. Was a bit busy in bar area when we arrived but the dining area was quiet. Only wished we lived in the area as we would definitely visit again.

This has been our local for around two years and we visit about once a fortnight for a meal. Everytime we go, it's just as good an experience as the last, sometimes even better. Today we dropped in just as a large group were due to arrive but, no problem whatsover. Ordered our meals and served by their lovely cheery staff ... where do they get them from? Laz and Nina are always very attentive with everyone who visits, be it for food or just a drink. The atmosphere is such that anyone on their own would be made so welcome and not feel as though they were alone as there are always people around to engage with, such is the beauty of the White Lion. There are tv screens in the bar and the outside covered area but not in the restaurant. It's a good pub, clean, tidy, good food, well priced and a joy to visit. Lots of people still wearing masks on entry too which is reassuring. Staff cleaning tables and seating between visitors. Keep it up you two, what you do works so well. See you soon

We arrived as a walk in party of 6 and 1 half.The roast lamb dinner was the best I've had in years.The staff are really friendly and we happy to work us in around their already fully reserved seating.We felt entirely welcomed and enjoyed the experience here immensly. Cannot leave a good enough review.5 stars for sure.

Visited with a friend who is something of a regular. Firstly, our waitress was first class, and we learned as we left that it was her first day - so very well done! It didn't show.I had a fish finger sandwich and home-made chips. They reminded me of ones my Mum used to make and were such a refreshing change from frozen ones. My husband opted for the Mini mixed grill. Goodness knows what the Full mixed grill is like. He had so much well-cooked meat, plus all the trimmings and had difficulty in eating it all. Would definitely recommend this local pub. Reasonable prices and hope we will be able to visit again when we visit our friend.

I haven't been here yet as I am not sure if its Dog Friendly ? My humans loooove it. They have covered and heated area, Lots of outdoor tables, play area, and they do food. The owners are so welcoming and friendly too ! They seem to be trying to cater for every need and have everything covered.

Again we had a family get together to celebrate my wife"s birthday.We had a very warm welcome when we arrived, and an excellent meal. We had a room to ourselves, so we were not rushed.I took a Large birthday cake which Laz cut for us, and we look forward to the next meal there. Thank you so very much

Called in today for lunch, it was fairly late and we were immediately advised that we would have a wait of 45 minutes. Having read the excellent reviews of this establishment decided that was not a problem. Football was on - we are not fans and were invited into the restaurant a football free zone. The whole place is spotless, the welcome was so warm, amazing people. Menu simple and creative, loved the simplicity of it. Meals were presented beautifully if I have one critism the bread on my prawn cocktail had far too much spread for my taste, butter portions would give a diner the choice. You guys have got it nailed look forward to visiting you again thank you

Popped in yst for a quick pint and a sandwich they were extremely busy and were advised could wait 10 mins to get a drink and over half an hour for food ,this was not the case !We were served by the jolly owner very quickly with our drinks , on asking how long for a sandwich he said he would go in kitchen and make for us straight away! And he did , what a cracking doorstop of a sandwich ! With salad, loads of crisps and coleslaw too , excellent value , excellent service with a very jolly smile !Highly recommend this pub to eat and drink , very well run Serving good pub grub and very generous portions with very friendly staff too and good value as well . We will be back !!

We wrongly presumed the Inn to be in central Leominster but actually it was just a little way out but definitely walkable. We had to wait a little but when the food arrived, we realised why ... the food is freshly cooked, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the room was cosy and welcoming. We will most definitely head straight there when next in Leominster!

The staff here are all friendly, welcoming and polite. Service was a little slow but they warned us there was a delay on food as the pub was busy.The menu didn’t have a lot on it but it was all the standard you’d expect to find on a pub menu.While the food was nice there’s clearly some that’s microwaved or fried from frozen, which isn’t a problem and should be expected most days from most pubs.Reasonably priced and overall a nice atmosphere for a simple and tasty lunch. Would pop in again.

I visited this place for a family meal, staff are very friendly there's a park for the children great prices on both food and drinks, and best Sunday lunch I have ever had in my life will definitely be returning. Was definitely worth the drive from worcester. Compliments to the chef and all the staff your doing an amazing job.

What more can you say about a family run local other than it was wonderful to go back there on the first day of opening after the lockdown. Having had snow first thing in the morning, it appeared that our long awaited visit would be doomed but, oh no! The sun came out and hubby and I, along with a few others braved the garden to eat, drink and, definitely, be merry. Such was the joy to be outside, it mattered not that the clouds came and went. In saying that, whilst we were there it was gloriously sunny.Nina and Lars were doing what they do best in serving good food, well priced with excellent service and taking the time to welcome everyone back and chatting to all who where there to enjoy their much loved local. Keep it up you two, you are just the greatest. We are lucky to live close by.

It was reasonably priced, well cooked and good sized portions.The pub was Covid safe and very clean.The menu offered lots of choice plus additional specials.On this occasion the service was a little slow as the pub was busy but the food was well worth waiting for. The White Lion is a quaint public house, with a separate bar and restaurant area and a central island style bar. The welcome was really friendly and we were sitted safely in the restaurant after sanitising our hands on the way through. Staff wore masks and screens were in place arou ND the bar. Tables were well spaced.The menu and especially the specials board was well stocked. Having seen the burger on social media I already knew what I wanted to eat. My daughter had lasagne and my wife was tempted by the freshly made Hungarian Goulash made by Las earlier in the day (our host).The food did not disappoint at all, it was fantastic. The burger was light and juicy, excellent light onion rings and fresh salad with great chips. The lasagne was great too but the star of the show was definitely the goulash. You know when you look forward to something and then you see what you wife has and wished you'd ordered that? The goulash was exactly that kind of meal. We had no room for desert so safely paid and left having had a super meal. We'd definitely go back, excellent service, food and hospitality.

Just wanted to say how impressed we were by the food, fajitas, gammon steak and scampi. All delicious and freshly cooked. Good, polite and fast service. I'd been on a bike ride earlier in the day, the fajitas really hit the spot! We spent two days in this area and we found the The White Lion restaurant and we had the best experience in food and service! We had the best roast dinner ever! Compliments to Laszlo and Nina! They have an amazing place!

Not knowing the area we called in to The White Lion on Saturday 26.09.2020 having read the other reviews on Trip Advisor and were so glad we chose this pub, it's fantastic and the food is excellentWe had no problem making our booking over the 'phone and, on arrival were greeted with a cheery smile and a warm welcome from the young lady behind the bar who looked after us throughout the evening, taking our order and serving our food and she was/is a credit to the owners. The Covid controls at The White Lion are first class and we felt extremely safe including the track and trace arrangements and the disposable menus that were still to a high qualityThe place looks like it has been recently decorated or, if not, it is kept impeccably clean and tidy and has a lovely fresh feel to it. We were sat in the dining area to the left of the bar and, although we were the only ones in that side of the premises the pub has a nice buzz to it and we didn't felt isolated and were certainly not forgotten by our attentive and very courteous waitress who took our orders after a short waitWe went for two of the 8oz steak burgers (one with Bacon and Cheese, and one with just Cheese), which used very high quality meat and were extremely well cooked and a BBQ Chicken (a little like a Hunter's Chicken) and, I have to say, the chunky chips that came with the burgers were exceptional, light, fluffy and yet still crispy, and very tasty (so nice, in fact, that one of our party, who prefers skinny, french, fries to chunky chips commented that she thought they were really nice) and the couple of onion rings served as an accompaniment were superb and, I would say, the best I've ever hadThe cost was very reasonable too, coming in, with a round of drinks, at just over £10 a head which is very good value, especially for this qualityOur visit to The White Lion was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the team there should be proud of what they're offering. Went with a friend for lunch and had a very pleasant experience. The place was clean and with good social distancing. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. There was plenty of choice on the menu, plus a daily specials menu and the food was freshly cooked, attractively presented and very tasty. My friend had the SMALL mixed grill, and although he has a healthy appetite, he was unable to finish all of it.I would revisit, and would thoroughly recommend.

Booked in for the last day of the Rishi scheme. Took 30 minutes to place order but first course then arrived in 15 minutes and main courses 25 minutes thereafter. Nice food and lots of orders coming out which looked equally good. Worth the wait if it's not raining. The Ladies needed some tlc - not working properly and not cleaned often enough for Covid circumstances - they do say you can judge a place by its toilets!

We found this pub on the Eat out scheme website. Didn't book just walked in very good timing on our part as there was a queue a short time later. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Very clean and great atmosphere lots of laughs to be had with staff and all very friendly.

Came here on August 24th with my Husband, my Neice and her husband and son. We were shown to our table by a lovely member of staff (didn't know her name) We ordered our drinks. Were told what the special meals was, and was given the menus. Must say what a lovely selection. We all decided what we wanted. We did have starters which was lovely. When our main meals arrived they were excellent and hot. My neice told the owner it was the best peppercorn sauce she has ever had with her steak. The desserts looked delicious but we were all to full up to have one. Myself and my husband are only about 5 minutes away from this lovely place. When our friends from Rugby are able to visit us will definitely book to have a meal. Social distancing and plenty of hand sanitiser was in place. Staff were excellent.

With many restaurants in Leominster closed or fully booked, we took a chance on this small, unassuming, family-run pub and ended up having some of the best food we've ever eaten. Proprietors Nina and Laz were very welcoming. They recommended that we try their authentic, homemade Hungarian goulash - which was incredible. One of us had a home-made lasagne, which she described as the best she'd ever eaten anywhere. Despite the high quality of the food, cooked fresh every day using local produce, the prices were more than reasonable, even without the 50% "Eat Out" deal. £43 for three two-course meals of a standard you'd expect in an expensive restaurant (minus 50%!). It's obvious that the chef loves his cooking and to see happy, well-fed people. The dining room was immaculately clean and very comfortable, and the pub has a lovely, unpretentious atmosphere while still maintaining the very highest standards of service. The only downside is that we don't live nearer, as we would definitely become regular eaters and maybe even give the full-size pool table a try! Would give ten stars if I could.(Looking at the review below: what kind of idiot assumes they have a booking at an extremely busy pub where by leaving a voicemail??)

Disappointed to have to post this but I feel that the pub staff need to accept very poor handling of our booking. We couldn’t get an answer on the phone so left a message making a booking for the evening. Arrived at the time we said we would to be told in an offhand manner that there was no booking and no room for us. We said that we’d booked by leaving a message and asked why, if the pub was full, that we hadn’t been phoned to say so. We were told by the staff member that she hadn’t been on duty in the afternoon so she wasn’t responsible for the problem. No apology. No offer to book us in another evening. No hospitality skills. We shan’t bother offering to eat out to help out with them if they paid us. If I could give this a zero rating I would.

We phoned to get a table, but they were full. Nevertheless they didn't turn us away - simply warned us that our food would take a while. They found us a small table near the dart board! We didn't have to wait too long for our food. It was hot and despite being busy, they checked on us to make sure everything was alright. A young person's pub. Lively on the Wednesday night we were there. Clearly they deserve their #1 billing on here.

We travelled via Leominster and stopped by here to have lunch. We ordered the homemade lasagna and it was absolutely delicious! My daughter, which is seven years old, has eaten the whole big portion brought to us and said it was the best lasagna she has had. Not only fresh ingredients but also cooked with taste and well presented. Also the atmosphere in the pub was very friendly and the landlord and landlady were very welcoming and making everyone feel part of the community. We will definitely return if we will pass by again!

My wife and I visited the White Lion on the 28 July and were so impressed we returned on the 30th. The landlord and staff were cheerful and friendly, the two real ales were good. The steak burger and chips with coleslaw and onion rings and the lasagne were excellent. My wife says that it was the best lasagne she has ever had in a restaurant. That after many years of Italian holidays!!There is a large carpark and a good sized garden eating area.

Called in for lunch while on a caravanning holiday in Pembridge and we were not disappointed.We were given a warm welcome and were given their Covid briefing and were happy all guidelines were being followed.We were given a table and ordered drinks and given a menu, a simple varied menu at very reasonable prices.We had beef lasagne with home cooked chips and salad and it was exceptional,followed by caramel apple pie and custard also excellant.The lady that served us was on her own in the bar and never once got flustered and spoke to everyone in a really nice friendly manner.Highly recommended.

My husband called to the White Lion on his way home from work and ordered some of their homemade chips to take away. They were the best chips around. My son nearly ate the lot to himself. Will definately be back for more.

Very friendly staff, a cozy fire in the corner and vibrant locals make this restaurant an excellent find. The portions are far larger than any human could eat and the food is prepared expertly! Try the roast pork (pie? pudding? I still don't know the right terminology.) and the accompanying veggies, mashed potatoes and sauces. Delicious! Located right between the train station and the thirteen hundred year old abbey!

Had Saturday lunch. Lovely welcoming staff who were very helpful and friendly. Didn't sit at the 2 tables by the log fire because of the 2 massive gambling machines we would have been staring at.Pleasant enough in the small restaurant though and had a baked potato with prawns and a dish of sausage and mash, both very reasonably priced. Nice except far too much salt in the mash - real mouth puckering! The coffee we were told was freshly ground but came from a machine that said mixed instant and finely ground and tasted rather weak and poor quality but still cost £2.20 a cup. We will go again but avoid these items.

Following good previous visits we checked with the The White Lion what they were doing for New Years Eve - they confirmed the normal menu was available and that a DJ would be present. We booked for 6.30 as they said this was the only table available. Again upon arrival the staff were very welcoming and attentive, our order was taken quite quickly and the starter arrived shortly afterwards. When the main course arrived they looked well below the standard we had experienced previously. My wife's chicken was quite black from the griddle, albeit not overcooked but my burger was dry and overcooked. The presentation of my wifes plate was poor (coleslaw just piled on the plate not in a separate dish). When the waitress came to clear the table we asked about the DJ and she said he was booked for 6.00pm, it was now 7.30pm! Other people asked about the DJ but based on the respone the pub stated to empty. We left at 7.45pm and there were very few people in the bar. It was very disappointing based on previous visits and we could in fact have gone elsewhere for a meal, possibly at less cost, we only went because we were led to beleive there would be entertainment. On previous visits the proprietors were present and made every effort to speak to you, we did not see them at all whilst we were there on New Years Eve! We did post a review directly to the White Lion's website on 2 January, to date it has not appeared and we have had no feedback, maybe its because it was a less than positve/complimentary review.

We travelled up to visit a nearby tree specialist on Wednesday lunchtime 15th January and were looking for coffee or a meal before making the two hour return journey. The member of staff I think it was Nina a lady in a green dress and lovely hair made us welcome with coffee and a lovely log fire. She mentioned the food and so we went into the restaurant, impressive lunch menu and specials all cooked fresh. We had Thai green curry and a liver and bacon all lovely and the steaks at the other table looked wonderful. Good prices and good beer. Why can’t other pubs get it right like this one. The service was excellent by this lady, nothing was too much trouble and despite being busy she ran the whole service, the other bar and answered the phone for bookings. and even came to say goodbye. I am retired from the trade but if I still had restaurants I would offer her a job to train my staff.
