On a long journey home I suggested we stop at the cafe for a drink and some food. I checked the arboretum website and found cafe opening hours were until 5pm. We arrived at 4.30 to find the cafe was closed and the only option was a takeaway tea and very little food choice. Member of staff was very polite and explained they were short of staff but in any case they stopped serving food at 4.30. I couldn't see any reference to this on the website or the cafe FB page. Very disappointed.

The service is terrible. It's very slow and the girl behind the counter took 10 minutes to collect a sausage roll from the hot shelf that was behind her. Another guy was waiting 25 minutes for a bacon bap. It seemed that they were doing one order at a time which is an impossible way to run a cafe. When I was at the takeaway hatch to order 2 hot chocolates, despite being the next in thr queue, the guy working the hatch invited 2 women from the inside queue to order outside and then served them before me! When I asked him why he was serving them before me when I was in the queue, he seemed to think he had done nothing wrong and doubled down. Whether he deliberately didn't want to admit his mistake and apologise or he genuinely couldn't see anything wrong with it, the poor service has been a real let down. I had to keep pushing that it is poor customer service and I got the hot chocolates on the house which I appreciate but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I have been coming here for the past 4 or 5 years, initially when privately run and more recently run and owned by the council. While privately run I was very happy with all aspects of the service and food, also prices were competetive with other places I go to. Initially when council staff started operations efforts were made to continue the standards of the previous operator although prices increased. The last 2 occasions I have come, inspite of repeating what I wanted I did not get what I asked for and items were forgotten and I had to ask where they were before I got them. I don't know if it is due to temporary or new staff but things need to improve as standards have gone down to an unacceptable level. I am prepared to come again but if I have the same experience as last time it will be the last time as there are other places I go to charging less with better food and service!

Nice spot for a walk & refreshments afterwards. Cafe staff were helpful & polite, albeit a little slow. Food was okay-ish, it is a very small cafe with limited food options after all. Arboretum is interesting & the trails lead to the viewpoint which, on a clear day, you can see for miles & read what you are seeing on the topograph! If you have children, don't forget to follow the gruffalo trail!

Oh dear. I dropped in during a walk around the woods - love this little cafe and was interested to see what the Wildlife Trust have done with it. An hour before closing, takeaway hatch shut and no one keeping an eye for anyone waiting. Staff clocked me but didn’t want to stop chatting and wiping surfaces down. Eventually served by a young lad who didn’t have a clue and clearly didn’t want to be there - big board advertising coffee & cake for £5 which sounded tempting but I wanted tea, not coffee but he wouldn’t let me have the deal unless I bought coffee… Er, this made no sense as tea is 2.50 and coffee is 2.90 (& cake is £3) so they’re losing more on the deal if I have a coffee than tea … but no, the board said coffee so I couldn’t have the deal with a tea 😩 He then gave me a tea with bag left in, put the tetrapak of milk on the counter to help myself but no spoon to stir it or saucer to remove the bag and when I asked he looked at me like I’d asked to shoot his grandmother. The staff really need training and then supervision to check they’ve taken it on board!! And they really need to think through their promo offers …

Been coming to this cafe for many many years. This is our first visit since it opened and we will not be going back. £8.50 for a southern friend chicken wrap with tasteless coleslaw and a salad that was 5 horrible tasting leaves. Went and ordered chips to top up. Kids had sausage, chips and beans. The one thin, small sausage looked, tasted and felt like it had been cooked and reheated numerous times and I could hardly cut it. The other sausage came out torn in half. They have got rid of the big rustic wooden tables and put small ones in which took away from the ease of going in as a family. Didn’t take my number plate for free parking so I had to go back in and sort when I noticed our table hadn’t been cleared still - we were the only people in there and had been gone 10 minutes. We were totally unimpressed. It’s such a shame, as it was a thriving cafe with great food before. Neither of our two families said we’d eat there again. Down to the garden centre we shall go.

We have been going regularly to this charming and welcoming little cafe for a good few year's, good freshly cooked food at a very reasonable price and extremely pleasent staff, today we find that they are being forced out by the trust. Have frequented Queenswood Café for many, many years. Good homecooked lunches and hearty breakfasts. I was very sad to today to hear of their imminent closure. Apparently, Herefordshire Wildlife Trust are taking over the business, evicting the current owners who have been there for 14 years! Speaking with the staff today, they are genuinely gutted and feel extremely angry - I can't blame them! Yet another small business losing out to the Fat Cats.

Used to enjoy coming here years ago, used to be such a lovely place but visited recently and the toilets were absolutely filthy, and the cafe staff are totally incompetent. Waited 30 minutes plus for a few drinks, staff in the kitchen are moving at a snails pace despite being loads of them in there and not even that busy. Heard people in what was quite a short que complaining about this also and multiple actually just left without buying anything, and even more people moaning about the wait time to collect their items. Just completely ridiculous!! Apart from one lady in the kitchen who was lovely they were all unfriendly, speaking so quietly and clearly didn’t want to be there! Why does it take so bloody long to serve a couple of coffees? That’s all the people in front of us were ordering too and still waiting ages. Never visiting again. Get better staff or train them properly and move quicker.

On a very wet day, when all outdoor seating was taken up with schoolchildren. We asked the manageress if it was possible to sit inside to eat. We had a 10 month old baby and a small shih tzu dog who is completely house trained and would have sat at our feet under the table. There was one other table occupied inside but we were refused point blank from a very rude manageress. I could understand if there was seating available outside or if we had a large dog with us. We were told to “leave the dog outside” and that it wasn’t her problem that all seats outside were taken up with school children. This was the first time we had ever visited Queenswood and will be the last. Extremely poor customer service

Visited on a rainy cold Sunday in February with my 80yr old mother and our small dog to have a quick walk in the woods. After our walk it was lunchtime and we wanted to eat. My mother sat in the cafe while I cleaned down the dog in the car park and then returned to join her to order our lunch. When I returned, after a few minutes, we had decided what we would order and the first words I heard from an approaching lady were 'NO DOGS ALLOWED!', I have to say I did question her as I was astonished and hadn't seen any signs, no alternatives were given no suggestions and certainly no apology, we were asked to leave the cafe. Which we did as we were glared at from the kitchen while my mother gathered her things. The Cafe was quiet with a table of 4 and a table of 2, so plenty of room to keep away from other people. Our dog is small and well behaved and as the woods are predominantly used by dog walkers I was astonished that the cafe was not dog friendly at all. For a small family run cafe turning away business seems counterproductive.

We started with coffee on arrival, good sized, reasonably priced large decaff coffee. No hurry or pressure to move, although we wanted a good walk in the woods. If you go down to the woods today, you be sure to ... meet the Gruffalo. Or should be but the day we went it was not there! Great walks and a Gruffalo trail for the kids. The cafe is based on the edge of the car park. Not sure if the owners have anything to do with the walk except I assume most of their trade is from people walking here. The Cafe is pleasant and clean which immediately gets a star in my book. It wasnt busy as we visited early morning a weekend or two ago. The food was prepared and cooked and so came out hot which again gets another star from me. The staff we talked to were friendly and service was good. The choices you get for vegetarian, vegan and all food is large and varied. Most probably too large and there was no room to say what you actually could expect on your plate. If we have seen what the veggie breakfast consisted of, we wouldnt have chosen it. Although I cant fault what I had but I was disappointed with what actually was served which also affects how I see value for money. We were on a cheat day and so not vegan but as usual chose a vegetarian option breakfast. As you can see there were no sausages... there are plenty vegetarian and vegan options available. Mushrooms (more than usual), beans, eggs (2), hash browns(2), tomatoe (1 whole fresh)and toast (1 round) just didnt feel like a full breakfast. We suspected that the toast was placed on top to disguise the contents or lack in some way. A group on the opposite table had a normal breakfast and the plates looked considerably more fuller. We discussed how many stars we would give and just didnt feel it was anything special and so gave a mid score. Will we come back here... Yes for the walk. Will we come back here for food... most probably but it will be a cheat day and we will order the 'normal' breakfast. I do recommend a visit but follow your carnivore instincts and order the normal breakfast. Would benefit by a 'on table' menu showing what the breakfasts consist of.

A lovely cafe situated in a beautiful wooded area. Friendly and efficient service. Served a super all day breakfast (despite being there at lunchtime!) Very clean and tidy. Children play area on site. Wonderful woods for walking and exploring. A pleasant experience.

This is a lovely place to eat - it is run by a family who do all they can to make you feel welcome. If you eat too much (very easy to do!) there are some lovely walks to get you back into shape.

Great little pub outside of Hereford, live music and they do a pub quiz with food every two weeks

We stayed in Ludlow in March and ate at the Red Lion on a trip to Leominster during the week. The food was excellent. We were down this way again and decided to book for Sunday lunch for the 4 of us. We were again made to feel so welcome by the warm and friendly staff and the service is excellent as is the quality of the food. The portions are generous but we made sure that we ate it all as it was too good to leave anything on the plates. We all agreed this Sunday lunch is one of the best we have ever had. We will definitely return to the White Lion when we are down this was again. The only issue we have is that we just wish it was closer to home so we could visit more often. Massive thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

My Husband and I stayed here for a night when attending a friend's wedding. It is a lovely old building with beautiful beams throughout and original fireplaces. For such an old building, it's been looked after very well by the owners. The rooms were lovely and clean, a little old fashioned but it had everything we needed. Clean fluffy towels, tea and coffee making facilities, a modern clean bathroom with complimentary shampoos, shower gels and soaps. The shower was lovely and hot and the room was toasty and warm when I stepped out of the shower. Breakfast the next morning was cooked very well and delicious. There was plenty of food from cereals and fresh fruit, fresh orange juice on the tables and you could have a full cooked English breakfast or just eggs on toast etc. My Husband and I had a full English, just without black pudding and tomatoe. Photos below. The hotel is set in a lovely little town/large village with old style pubs, bakery shops including a Co op. There is free parking behind the hotel with outdoor seating for warmer months or smokers. We would definitely stay at this lovely old hotel again. The only thing I would say that needs improved was the mattress.... The bed was very hard, but apart from this, a lovely stay. Thank you. This is just my personal experience, please bare this in mind.
