I recently stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. While the service provided by the staff was commendable, the numerous issues with the room overshadowed any positives. First and foremost, the room was located on the top floor with no lift access, making it extremely inconvenient to transport luggage. The beds were uncomfortable and squeaky, offering zero comfort for a good night's sleep. To make matters worse, the room was infested with flies, particularly in room number 6, which made the stay unpleasant and unhygienic. The room itself was sweltering hot and humid, with inadequate ventilation. One window was closed off, while the other, once opened, allowed flies and mosquitoes to enter freely. The lack of proper maintenance was evident, as the table lamp was non-functional, adding to the overall discomfort of the room. Additionally, the toilet flush was faulty, further adding to the list of inconveniences. While I appreciated the efforts of the staff to provide excellent service, the outdated and poorly maintained rooms were a major letdown. The hotel premises are in dire need of a makeover to meet even basic standards of comfort and cleanliness. In conclusion, despite the efforts of the staff to make my stay pleasant, the numerous issues within the room made it a disappointing experience overall. I would not recommend this hotel until significant improvements are made to the rooms and facilities.

its a family run shambles , the two elderly people are the rudest you can come across , popped in for a drink and was met by a miserable elderly man , the owner, coughing into his hands then handling glasses, no warm greeting , no 'what can i get you' etc. he took the order and i asked if i could pay by card as i had no cash at that time , he then went into a rant ,tutting about 'if i had too' and i'm a corporate greedy banker , and i'm a disgrace for wanting a cashless society etc, i could not believe my ears! i told him in no uncertain terms do not speak to me like that as i was just making sure they accepted card before he produced the drinks. i told him how disgraceful he was , how rude he was and i told him he needs to speak to customers correctly , he then started to back track and said he was joking and he apologises fully etc etc. absolutley disgraceful behaviour. ive since contacted the management team ( his daughter) who apologised and mentioned they 'try to keep him from speaking to customers' look at the other reviews these people are so rude! ive asked for a personal apology buy not heard back , avoid this place like the plague plenty of other places who will welcome you

We went for a 6 mile walk around this beautiful area and had booked lunch at this beautiful hotel afterwards. The hotel is so atmospheric and is spotlessly clean - the welcome from all the staff was so attentive and the quality of the food I would say was outstanding - the prices were so reasonable and the food had all been freshly prepared and we all enjoyed every course - it’s nice to have real tablecloths !! And nothing was too much trouble for the staff - highly recommended by all of us

We stopped for a quick meal en route and were pleasantly surprised. A very interesting old building, clean and well-maintained. Pleasant welcome from staff and good service. Old-style dining room feels like the 50s or 60s- nothing wrong with that. The food was just what we wanted- varied menu, not expensive, a nice change from the usual pub food formula. Portions were generous and tasty. A nice atmosphere- locals clearly come here to enjoy themselves. Can't comment on rooms as we did not stay the night.

The building is beautiful however a little dated inside, which initially did put us off, along with there were only 2 other people in the restaurant and it was really quiet with no music or real atmosphere however, don’t let that fool you as the food was stunning! My partner had steak which he stated was cooked to perfection and I had vegetarian samosa which were clearly homemade and super tasty. Chocolate bread and butter pudding for dessert was home-cooked and heavenly. The service was quick and the waitress was friendly and attentive. We noticed the other customers in the restaurant also praised the chef for steak and dessert. Will definitely return in the future

We came on holiday to Pensax and stopped here for lunch on a day out. In our group we had 3 adults and two children. The staff were very friendly and seated us quickly. They brought out water and bread for us. My children were very excited at this and thought the restaurant was fancy. Our drinks order came out quickly. There is no children's menu but the children could choose a smaller main meal at a very reasonable price. We had roast dinners, jacket potatoe and vegetarian roast. The portions were large and very good value in deed. We liked it so much we came back again a few days later, the last day of our holiday. It was the same excellent service. This time around we had lasagnes, roast dinner and the chicken thighs. All was very tasty and big portions again. Very family friendly as the staff were accommodating to our children. I would highly recommend this place to eat and we hope we can come back here in the future if we do come this way again.

There is no doubting the character of this place - its half-timbered ambience strikes you both outside and in.I checked in for a night as a stopover on a long walking trip, and was warmly welcomed. My single room was - inevitably - decked with ancient beams, and well-equipped although quite small.I sipped a good pint just after arrival, probably a little earlier than strictly permitted, and checked the menu for later. The Falcon has some very good reviews for its food, so I had high hopes. You know how it feels when a promise dissolves into disappointment? It happened at the dinner table. Doubts began with a "home-made chicken liver pate", which arrived as a huge slab of tasteless greyness, accompanied only by some chutney. My braised lamb continued the grey tasteless theme, and I poked at a weird spidery object on the plate before I realised it was supposed to be a rosti... I shunned dessert.Interestingly the online menus don't match what I saw that evening, so maybe the usual chef was absent. At the breakfast table next morning I was consoled by a reasonable English breakfast, but I must admit it's a long time since I last saw tinned mushrooms served in a restaurant. Is it really so difficult to get the little things right? That said, a comfortable night, good value as a B&B, friendly staff, and a good location.Recommended for a stay, but perhaps eat elsewhere.

Ok, so, visited previously a few years ago,and had a bit of a disagreement with Sylvia (and left a review). Decided to visit with Hubby, daughter, and her partner. Pre-warned them that Sylvia was a character, but it would be fun! Imagine how gutted we were to find out Sylvia had passed last Christmas (RIP). The hotel is now run by John (her husband),the proprietor, and his family. This is a lovely, old-fashioned place, but SPOTLESSLY clean, sloping floors and walls, but filled with character. The breakfast was amazing, so dont be put off by the 2 star rating, that's vastly unfair. Clean room, en-suite, and a massive, tasty breakfast. You couldn't ask for more. Our friends from over the pond would love it too. John and his staff couldn't do enough for us, and he deserves a medal for carrying on without his wife by his side. We had lunch here not long ago and were blown away by the quality of the food. Everything is home made, generous, and so well prepared. We promised ourselves dinner next visit. What a meal it was! I don't know where to start - we are still talking about it. Husband had the creamiest soup, I had a SLAB of homemade chicken liver pate and homemade fruit chutney. For mains I had duck on red cabbage (fruity, delicious) with parsnips and an unexpected bowl of extra veg, carrots, swede, broccoli and potatoes. My husband had the turkey roast and it was fabulous and moist, with a bowl of homemade cranberry. We had a huge gravy boat of the thickest most delicious gravy I have ever had (my mouth is watering thinking about it). We had no room for puds, more's the pity! The cook is apparently called Jane - what a gem she is! An Amazing chef. The staff were lovely too. The shock of the bill was how low it was! Incredible value. We will be back.

I went to the Falcon Hotel for our annual WI meal in the middle of January. As usual the bar was busy with lots of ladies knitting and nattering happily which they do regularly twice a week. Sylvia and staff had set out a long table in the Oak room upstairs complete with candlebra and crackers. We di not have to order ahead of the day but could choose from the menu either two or three courses. All these were very substantial. The emphasis was on local produce and I and several other members enjoyed some guinea fowl which was very filling. For dessert I felt I needed something simple and ordered strawberry jelly which came in a square dish and had strawberries in it as well as two large slices of ice-cream with brandied cherries in them. Delicious! We all joined hands earlier to pull the crackers and after we had laughed at the mottos the "rubbish" was quickly removed by the waiting staff. We rounded the meal off with coffee or tea and all for a very reasonable price. As we left we saw that the lounge was full of a lot of local people playing their guitars. It is good that the people of Bromyard use this excellent facility. I have no hesitation in recommending the food at this hotel.

We recently visited for lunch. Initially all seemed well but it wasn't long before I began to think differently...... I asked for another copy of the menu to save time with our ordering. Apparently only 2 copies are typed daily and we already had 1 of them! Ok."Sylvia" came to take our order and when I asked for a few moments more to make our choices she said that we may loose our table as 'some evil people may take it first' !! As we gave our order we overheard Sylvia calling to someone that they would have to get another member of staff to cook our sirloin steak as the chef doesn't like cooking this! Oh dear, this didn't bode well. We were taken to our table and Sylvia snapped at my mother to leave the side plate where she had placed it. My father was then abruptly told to not put his side plate on the place mat as "we won't be able to put your meal there will we?" I began to think I was having an out of body experience as a couple arrived in the restaurant with a dog the size of a donkey( not entirely accurate but my mother does have a point!!) said animal then proceeded to lunge at Sylvia and boy was she not amused! Our food arrived, HUGE amounts on our plates which was so off putting and overall very poor presentation. The flavours were ok though. Unfortunately the dog was being fed from the table next to us, this did nothing to enhance our experience of the place nor did it help our appetites!!We paid in the reception area and I assume it was the landlord who dealt with us. He was certainly an improvement on Sylvia. We noticed several cats wandering around this area .... let's hope the dog in the restaurant didn't catch sight of them!!Fawlty Towers certainly does spring to mind. I doubt we'll be back anytime soon.

I live quite near to the Falcon. We had planned a family gathering at home but when the numbers unexpectedly increased we booked the Falcon for Sunday lunch. A good plan. We had a warm welcome. The table was properly laid in traditional style – properly! The small children were well catered for and puzzles etc. provided for amusement. The service was very professional – the Falcon uses, I believe, catering college students for Sunday lunches – they were perfect. The food in quality and quantity was very good. Genuinely home cooked! I, rather boringly, settled for roast beef. Another member of the party went for the “baby venison pie” (this referred to a small pie not a baby deer) Another, I think, had partridge – someone else pork with almonds. Not an extensive menu (a long one is usually a sign of mass catering) Absolutely no complaints – and the range of desserts was similarly interesting. Can wholeheartedly recommend the Sunday lunch. And very good value for money. A similar menu is on offer on weekdays. We have had the light lunches served in the bar occasionally – these are of the same standard. It is best to book. When functions are being catered for (funerals etc.) normal service may be suspended.

I had Sunday Lunch at the Falcon Hotel today with my Son and we couldn't fault it! It is a lovely old building full of beams as befits it's age. We were given a warm welcome from the friendly & efficient staff and the meal was superb. My son had beef and I had pork, both of which were cooked to perfection along with a good assortment of vegetables. For dessert we had cheesecake and creme brulee which which were both lovely. I will definitely be going back. Compliments to the Chef and thank you to the Staff. A.Young.

We dined here as we were staying at the Inn we had read previous comments that said people had enjoyed the food and so gave it a try, indeed we agree with others that the food was delicious and very well cooked, our congratulations to the chef a suburb meal. The tables were set out with clean tablecloths for each serving and jugs of water and glasses set out as well as freshly baked bread and curls of butter all beautifully served. Indeed if we lived nearby instead of visiting the area we would dine there often. Well done for old fashion service and attention to detail which is sadly missing in a lot of outlets theses days.

We booked Sunday lunch on 31st May 2015, for 12.45 pm, entered to entrance, were then greeted and seated, the waiter asked if we wanted drinks, at the same time provided the menu, which was quite extensive, after a few minutes we were taken to our pre booked table in the restaurant area, waiter then took our order for Sunday lunch, very pleasant waiting staff, very attentive, the food arrived it was excellent, goose fat roast potatoes first my wife and i have had, plus individual vegetable bowls, the quality was excellent, very good value and local produce

This is a wonderful place. The interior is very cosy and full of history. The food is fabulous and there is a lot of it, so go hungry. Prices very reasonable. John and Sylvia (the owners) make you feel very welcome. Well worth trying.

Went with family for Sunday Lunch. Busy but staff were able to cope and the owner and her partner kept us entertained. The food which after all is what we were there for was first class.A Sunday lunch menu to die for. I had the pheasant, my wife had Partridge, Beef, Pork and more was on menu too.Effort was put into service and portions were very good indeed. I could write lots more in praise but best you visit.

The Falcon serves excellent food at very reasonable prices. The interior is cosy and comfy and the restaurant is well presented. The staff can seem a bit intimidating at first but after a short spell remind one more of Fawlty Towers and one can't help but laugh. The car park is very adequate and our dog was made welcome..

Despite being relative locals, we've never eaten here - until now! We thought we'd give Sunday lunch a try and weren't disappointed. The food was plentiful (the Gravadlax starter could have been a main), and the roast was pretty good quality meat and plentiful veg. The home made ice cream was great as well - and the whole meal was well priced. The Wye Valley beer is kept well, the service was not bad at all (not sure what other reviewers expected, but it was fine). Like the rest of Bromyard, the building itself, the owners and staff are all characters, and that made the place even more charming. We've been remiss in not coming here more often, but will certainly change that from now on.

I have never ever been to a place with such bad service. From the moment we arrived to find just one (particularly unwelcome person) behind the bar who after 15 minutes came to me and asked if I was being served when he was the only one serving......... We attended a group function and during the meal our table wanted a bottle of wine. No chance from the 'servers' so I went off in search and stumbled across the wife of our barman who when I asked her about ordering a bottle of wine she just said 'No No No' and rushed off. Downstairs at least the barman had gone and a young lad was there who immediately said that ordering a bottle of wine was no problem. When I tried to tell him what table we were on he said that it was no good telling him and we should watch out when we entered the room and wave!!!! I kid you not the service could have only came out of a Fawlty Towers programme. BUT the food is quite good.I don't know who the chef is in this organised and well rehearsed chaos but our soup was quite delicious and the main course not bad for mass produced meal, dessert was good as well. So the food gets a heads up which is probably the main thing for a restaurant.I dread to think what a stay in one of the rooms is like there as this really is better than watching an episode of Fawlty Towers.

My wife and I both detest the smell and taste of garlic and often have difficulty in finding suitable meals in pubs and restaurants. (We usually end up with ham, egg & chips).I have no idea why chefs feel the need to add it to nearly every dish these days, it does nothing whatsoever to improve the flavour and just leaves diners with bad breath after a meal. The other day, we went into this pub, looked at the menu and, as we always do, asked a member of staff to tell us which meals did not contain garlic. Imagine our delight when we were told that, "We never use the stuff, the chef refuses to put it into any of his meals".After hearing this, we would have been happy to eat almost anything. However, I have to say that the meal I had - stewed pheasant - was one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a long time. Also, the service was second to none and the real ale was in superb condition.

Bromyard is a bustling village for the young and elderly alike with this Character Hotel at its centre. The key to this well run establishment is its owners who work tirelessly to maintain it in good order and ensure that comfort and great quantities of good food are in plentiful supply. We went for lunch which is often eaten at tables in the bar area ( the salmon or trout risotto was superb). The dinner menu is extensive varied and served in a black and white historic well laid out dining room. We did not see the accommodation but imagine that it would be as good. There is plenty of guest only parking behind. If you are visiting this village full of interesting boutique shops we would certainly recommend you include a meal or overnight stay at the Falcon.

Very disappointed with this establishment. The woman on the reception (an elderly woman) is very rude - and thinks she is right all the time. She was not interested in my comments/complaint regarding the meal we had had in the restaurant - The portion of the potatoes were very small - and the meal was disgusting too. When i complained i only received abuse from this woman on reception, and why should i stand for that.I would not even step foot into this place again. What a shame s the outside looks quaint.By the way, The Holly Tree B & B in Bromyard is the best place to stay if you are in the area.

This is not a review of the food, just the place itself as we didn't get as far as ordering.Went in to eat lunch but were immediately put off by the non welcome from presumably the lady proprietor who interrogated us as we were having a look around as to what sort of food we wanted, bar, restaurant etc, we said can we eat outside, as it was a pleasant day, yes but I can't serve restaurant menu as the gravy will congeal! We took a bar menu and looked ouside but weren't enamoured by the seating area or the menu choice, so after our grilling we decided not to bother and departed. There weren't many eaters or drinkers there, I wonder why. Some good old fashioned customer service would be useful.

Well, having chosen to visit Bromyard on a wet Tuesday only to find that either places were closed all day or closing half day, the Falcon Hotel offered more than most for a lunchtime bite to eat.The portions were enormous, well cooked and excellent value for money, really could not be faulted, and to cheer everyone along, the proprietors were straight clones of Basil and Sybal Fawlty. When ordering food and in particular chips with our turkey and ham pies we were told with a straight face that there was no need for chips as the pie was enough, forging on with our order we were then advised that we had been warned and it was not her fault if we could not finish the meal.We enquired of the bar man which local beer he recommended, to be told that he could not advise us at all as he did not have a clue as to what type of beer we liked! Many small fawltyesque moments followed throughout the meal, however this only served to make the experience more enjoyable, although it would be easy to see how this could put people off, with the attitude that patrons were only ruining the proprietors afternoon. All in all, would we return?, well yes I think we would, the food was not faulty, only the owners, and that can be overlooked if you see it as it is. The surroundings were clean and tidy and well presented which is not always the case in a bar type restaurant.

Called into The Falcon in Bromyard today with a group of walkers. Pre booked our food before the walk. We were shown into the lovely restaurant, spotless tablecloths, silver, clean cutlery, glasses etc. Quite a difference in the selection of food, some hot - while myself and husband had the BEST sandwich ever. Made on their own bread, which was exquisite, I had prawn, while he had hot very tender beef with horseradish. They were enormous sandwiches, I could barely eat all mine. The other had various i.e. from risotto to curry to beef and suit pud, all clean plates and no complaints. The owner/lady is not to be trifled with, looks terrifying, but don't be scared, give it a go!!!

I didn't stay here (thank goodness) but attended an event in the bar in the afternoon. A few of us decided to stay for food as it looked tastey and good value. I asked a simple question when ordering a was told by the landlord in a whiney, shouty voice 'I don't know!' I was rather taken aback, and asked if he was the landlord. He carried on in his quite aggressive way saying things like 'he's just an old man and can't be expected to know about the menu' and how I should read it properly myself. When I asked why he was being so aggressive with me he said he 'was just trying to shut me up and stop me asking questions'.I was so upset by the incident that I went outside and cried! I also witnessed the landlady telling off a young member of staff infront of customers.

10/10 for hilarity value. Ordered belly pork, after an inordinately long wait it arrived with no crackling, this after being treated to a row between the owner and the porter, when doors were banged, loud shouts and thumping feet. when I sent the meal back, I was offered another meal, however I overheard a neighbour asking for something to be told that Silvia didn't know how long it would take. I decided not to take the chance. Attitude of Silvia and John, was that the customers were a nuisance. Friend had a beautiful beef sandwich, but Fawlty Towers was the name that came to mind for us. !

Went in for a light lunch which is what we ordered but the servings for six pounds each were so generous we will not cook this evening. A good choice of non standard fare. I had Moroccan duck with couscous. The service was also good. When a group of six arrived and there was no tables in the bar they showed them into the restaurant.

Best thing I can say about this place is it might well be worth it for the amusement value. We ate dinner there and have been chuckling over it ever since. When we entered the lounge bar, there was no one serving, but Silvia (recognized her immediately I read the previous postings) was sitting in a comfy chair with her leg elevated. "I can't help you," she announced, "I have to keep off this leg." "John will help you at the bar." But all could plainly see there was no John. Eventually, Silvia intimidated another guest to go out and ring the hotel reception bell to summon John. Shortly after, he came out and sold me two drinks. I asked for the dinner menu, and waited for about 10 min for him to return with one. He didn't, and meanwhile Silvia simply chatted away with a friend. Eventually, I gave up and took our drinks over to my wife. Oddly, she had the menu. John had left me waiting at the bar, but gone around through another entrance to give her a menu, leaving me stranded. And needless to say, Silvia didn't advise me of this. What could be more of a Fawlty Towers farce than this? Things then looked up for a while. John came back and took our orders, vegetable curry for my wife, and spicy duck for me. Then we waited. And we waited. After about a half hour, on my way back from the gents, I saw my wife being bundled into the dining room. She had been told we couldn't eat in the bar and must sit in the restaurant, which we dutifully did. Then we waited some more. Eventually Silvia emerged from the kitchen and screamed "you're at the wrong table!" Mmmm? There were precisely two tables laid up for two and we had fairly arbitrarily picked one. 50/50 chance I'd say, but we lost. We slinked over to the "right" table, which Silvia explained "is closer to the kitchen." Actually, it isn't. It's two paces further. I checked. And, it's a tiny room, but nonetheless clearly closer to the kitchen than the bar. Silvia hobbled out from the kitchen with our meals, which she served with a mouthwatering "that's the duck, this is the curry" explanation. Food was mediocre. It lay somewhere in the middle of that large grey domain between nourishment and enjoyment. The spicy duck consisted of 4 dry duck drumsticks devoid, as far as I could tell, of any spices. It came with a nice couscous though, with pumpkin and flax seeds. Healthy and tasty. The curry was too sweet but edible. When we asked for our bill, we were told we could certainly have it, if we went to the hotel reception. We did and paid up. Two people, two drinks, two one plate meals required us to sit at three different tables, suffer a long wait at the bar, and pay in two separate locations. On the bright side, the Falcon is a great old building, and the whole experience cost us only £18.20. I doubt there's better entertainment value anywhere in Bromyard.

We stayed in Ludlow in March and ate at the Red Lion on a trip to Leominster during the week. The food was excellent. We were down this way again and decided to book for Sunday lunch for the 4 of us. We were again made to feel so welcome by the warm and friendly staff and the service is excellent as is the quality of the food. The portions are generous but we made sure that we ate it all as it was too good to leave anything on the plates. We all agreed this Sunday lunch is one of the best we have ever had. We will definitely return to the White Lion when we are down this was again. The only issue we have is that we just wish it was closer to home so we could visit more often. Massive thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

The service is terrible. It's very slow and the girl behind the counter took 10 minutes to collect a sausage roll from the hot shelf that was behind her. Another guy was waiting 25 minutes for a bacon bap. It seemed that they were doing one order at a time which is an impossible way to run a cafe. When I was at the takeaway hatch to order 2 hot chocolates, despite being the next in thr queue, the guy working the hatch invited 2 women from the inside queue to order outside and then served them before me! When I asked him why he was serving them before me when I was in the queue, he seemed to think he had done nothing wrong and doubled down. Whether he deliberately didn't want to admit his mistake and apologise or he genuinely couldn't see anything wrong with it, the poor service has been a real let down. I had to keep pushing that it is poor customer service and I got the hot chocolates on the house which I appreciate but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
