Disgusting way to run a hospitality business. Parking scam . Avoid avoid Boycott. How any business can think it’s right to put customers at risk of a £100 is beyond.

Had the most amazing experience at The White Lion this weekend. Me and my girlfriend decided to have a weekend away and landed on here! The food was INCREDIBLE. Lots of options for my girlfriend also (Vegetarian). Our stay was perfect too. Easy check in process and the rooms were super clean. Will be staying again and would definitely recommend!

Despite phoning prior to arrival for a breakfast - we arrived to find no one on hand other than a cleaner. She was helpful and found another member of staff. My sister and I were the only 2 customers - we ordered our breakfast with a lovely waiter. I had to go and find someone to order our drinks. Food came and was well presented and was hot and tasty. We had no sauce or butter so again I had to go and find a member of staff. As we finished we then went to the bar to pay and again, no staff to be seen. Great food, shame about the service.

We went here on Sunday 27th October and the experience was terrible. On arrival at 12 noon we were told there would be a delay on the food as there was 12 of us, the pub was not busy so we didn’t expect this. When the food finally came out at around 1pm 3 people sent the food back as it was cold. The rest of the meals were not that hot either. There was stand items missing off the menu so my partner couldn’t have dairy free cauliflower cheese or a Yorkshire pudding, and they still had to pay £18.95 for the roast dinner. One person decided to order a desert and they didn’t have any toffee to go with the sticky toffee pudding, so would custard be ok. This managed to ruin a special birthday celebration for us all and especially my partners mum who's birthday it was. Much nicer places to eat, wish I had have read the reviews first

It was my dads 50th birthday and we thought we would have a nice family meal out. It first took half an hour for starters. Which were not great, undercooked and a bit soggy. Next the mains were yet another hour and a half. We sat down at 7:30 and got mains at 9:30. It didn’t help that the miscommunication in the kitchen led to different waiters and waitresses telling us different things. Just to clarify the waiters and waitresses were amazing and it was not their fault at all, they are the only nice thing I can talk about. Furthermore when the food arrived it was cold and soggy just like the starters. Apart from my main which was said to arrive “in 2 minutes” and at 9:45 it still was not here. I cancelled my burger order and drove home to Crewe to get McDonald’s. Hate to say it was shocking. My family was not happy at all, but in all seriousness the wait staff were fantastic. Normally the food is okay but it was just not at all worth it this time. We simply said we are not paying for anything and walked out.

3 of us went for Saturday lunch and cannot get over how poor this pub is considering we have celebrated,2 large events over the last 5 yrs. The restaurant empty at 12.30 but we're still sitting there til 3pm. I ordered a sandwich which when you actually found it on the plate was stale and hard..sent back to receive same bread .. helloooo I can't eat this one either😞a desert was offered for free,a fruit crumble which was stone cold.of all the 3 meals only the coffee was hot and the service beyond slow. The young waitress had no clue about the food especially when the custard was called creme anglais. Such lovely surroundings it needs to be taken over by someone passionate about food and what the customer deserves for their money

We have been going here over the past 3 years a number of times but unfortunately our last visit was very disappointing. We got seated quickly with our order taken within 10 minutes. However a simple order of fish and chips and steak pie, took an hour to come. The waiters did not mention about a wait on food and no apology for the length of time we were waiting either. The steak pie as well did not seem to be their own, tasted like a frozen one defrosted that day. If heading to Wetherspoons this would be expected but not somewhere that is more up market like The White Lion. Also, as standard I would always expect water to be provided without asking but this was not the case. Would be thinking twice before going back as things need to improve.

I recently visited The White Lion, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, perfect for a night out with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. The food was delicious – we tried the Sunday roast, and everything exceeded our expectations! The drink selection was impressive, with a great mix of local brews and classic options. I’d highly recommend The White Lion to anyone looking for a relaxed and enjoyable spot with good vibes. Restaurant review only. 1 out of 5. Fall from grace. This place was previously excellent so I do question what has happened with management. It will not survive if it continues like this. We had a table for 5 booked at 5.30pm on a Sunday. On arrival, the restaurant was very quiet, perhaps after a busy lunch service, I don't know. After ordering our drinks we were informed that 3/5 starters were not available and that approximately half of the main menu (non roast) was not available. We were having roasts so no issues...we continue. I chased our drinks after 25 mins as they had not arrived. Was informed it hadn't gone through but would be on way very quickly. A larger shandy and 3 Lime Sodas, I mean it's not as if we were ordering frozen daiquiris! I went to the bar to speak to the manager at 6.06pm (36mins after ordering). Food arrived before drinks. Here comes the worst bit. Pigs in Blankets served on a Vegan Nut Roast!! I had expressly questioned upon ordering that the Vegan Cauliflower Cheese was included instead of the stuffing and pigs in blankets. The food was average at best but roast potatoes, well they tasted like they had been left to go cold and then microwaved on low. All in all, a terrible experience. The manager on shift did not lead by example and left his young waitresses to deal with things. Would especially not want to eat here if I had a food allergy as who knows what is happening in the kitchen.

We ran an event last weekend, and the White Lion Weston was our base hotel. The staff we dealt with during the past 12 months - Kelly, Grace and Freya, were always helpful and very professional. We had a Presentation meal on the Saturday evening, in the hotel function room. Everything was set up as we had requested, the food was superb and so was the service. Booking in for all the guests ran smoothly too. Our event was a big success and a large contribution to this was of course the hotel. Many thanks to you all for making the weekend run smoothly.

Really disappointed. 6 of us went for a meal expecting good food and service. How wrong we were. After ordering we were told there was 2 parties on and food would take longer than usual. Starters eventually arrived, nachos were disgusting, looked like they'd been in a microwave and the cheese was dry, nachos like rubber. Dish was sent back. Only part dishes brought out. Only 1 of the main meals was good. One portion of vegetables came too late to eat with the meal. Certainly needs some improvement

Just back from a disappointing dinner out with friends. Over an hour before we got our food, no offer of water for the table or other drinks. Food no more than average - chilli was little better than browned mince with chillies in. Service was beyond painfully slow, took a hour from getting in to receiving my starter, drinks took forever to come, when you spend £50.00 on a bottle of wine and prices you ask, you don't expect to serve it yourself, food for the price you ask is a disgrace, I think your chef needs to understand the meaning of confit, will not be returning the place was being run by kids, my hubby's pint was left on bar for 15 minutes, my hubby had to collect it himself, so poor.

Lovely Pub, Great location & beautiful surroundings! Mixed views for our stay.. rocky start & a fantastic end! We attended a family event at White Lion - A relative had hired the function room (this itself was lovely and spacious!) We had to pre order months in advance, as there was a fair few of us to organise - they’d sent us menu choices & was all good! Although sadly on the day we were informed the menu had recently changed & they didn’t have the selected dishes available.. leaving a number of guests changing meal choices last minute! This should have been raised before attending ideally, as we felt the new menu actually had a better selection… those that ate off the old menu didn’t overly enjoy the food as much… we had a lot of mishaps and wrong servings - maybe too many guests to organise?! Or sheer panic as the produce wasn’t in stock now.. Who knows. Moving on from the event though… We had a lovely stay!! The beds were comfortable.. Rooms were small but cosy & had everything we needed. VERY dog friendly - which is always lovely. Nice garden out back with grass and play area or lovely courtyard out front with views! After the lunch event we sat in the bar through the evening & the food was delicious (new menu choices) bar staff super friendly… SOPHIE especially was helpful & went above and beyond to make our stay fab!

Went just after 6pm on a Sunday, no roasts or starters available and basically most of the main menu was unavailable too., as the chef had had a really busy day. The only things they could offer were burgers and chips or fish and chips, none of the delicious looking food the hotel advertises on its website. The staff were crestfallen and obviously embarrassed by what they were offering to paying guests and there were a lot of unhappy diners. Need to get their act together.

This was the worst Sunday roast ever. Roast potatoes weren't roasted, parsnips were hard, no cauliflower cheese and no pigs in blankets. Vegetarian gravy was like water and had no flavour. Carrot purée was tasteless. Took over 15 minutes to got our drinks, food arrived quickly, but we had no cutlery. Took ages to get the bill and we asked for a doggy bag for the dog, as we'd left so much, was made to wait 20 minutes for the doggy bag. Won't ever be returning

Disgraceful visit. Told after arrival and ordering drinks, that from the extensive Sunday menu the only items that were available were Beef Burger, Chicken burger or fish and chips. No Sunday lunch, no starters and less than half of the mains menu. Offered a free round of drinks or the option to leave, we stayed as would have had to try find a reservation somewhere else at very short notice and then travel. We then waited 1 hr 30 minutes for burger and chips to arrive, watching at least 3 other tables on just the upper floor arrive, order, eat and leave. Asked multiple times when our food was going to be served, told every time “5 minutes”. When the food finally arrived nearly 2 hours after our reservation time, every single plate was missing an item as described on the menu. The burger buns were inedible, rock hard to the point you couldn’t even tear them apart with your hands. Chicken burger was overcooked, dry and had to be cut with a knife and fork. Won’t be returning again. Very poor service, poor quality of food. At £80 for x3 Burger&Chips, x1 Fish and Chips, 1 pint and 1 soft drink, charging a premium price for a wholly disappointing experience.

Went for a meal today after waiting an hour I can honestly say the service and food was rubbish. I had a chilli con carne which tasted only of minced beef no taste at all. We got asked if we would like another one but theres a wait. We did say we were not paying for the chilli. Three more of us had fish all leaving half the meal. To top it all on paying i mentioned if they had a new chef. The answer came back no, two chefs had left so they were working on agency staff. Certainly never going back and not recommended

This has been our favourite restaurant for years, so it is very dissapointing to write this- I do so.in hope that management can rectify the issues and get it back to the expected standard. It is usually fab! (Note - I never ever write reviews but this is how gutted I felt). Service awful as soon as we arrived. Waited an age for drinks and, in the end, went to the bar. The staff there just seemed very young and inexperienced- nice girls though with good intentions. I didn't expect beef to be available at 6.20pm on a Sunday- that's OK, I had chichen. It arrived...... Half the plate seemed to be missing. I could have used the yorkshite (nis-spelling intended) and won Olympic Gold at discus- very hard and cold. There wasn't a sniff of carrots on my plate, the rest of the veg was clearly on Limited availability- I DID inform our waitress that it was lacking - in quantity and as per advertised. Bless her she did offer a desert but as I explained that wasn't what I was after- I just wanted what I had ordered Come on - sort it out. Sadly, I shall be giving you a wide berth for a while and shall not be singing your praises but i can recommend the Swan At Madeley or Hand in Trumpet - at least you won't leave feeling ripped off and hungry Sorry. On entering I was greeted and served in a professional and friendly way. The gent who served me chatted (.he had glasses) I thought he was the owner but he wasn't. I had high expectations. We were shown to our table menus given. There didn't seem to be as keen approach by the girl who served us, we did try to be friendly but even my 16yr old grandaughter felt the waitress was frosty. I asked for a small portion of Jamaican curry and was told we've only got the large today?? Then came the meal 3 chicken thighs very unappealing with rice which would have looked nicer in a bowl with a teaspoon if lucky of coleslaw. hot smoked salmon pate looked like a pink icing mozzeralla fries nearly a portion.. The duck breast wasn't even a full fillet and the rest was cold. Yes we were given a replacement meal but it took ages and everyone had finished when it arrived with hard veg. The camebert was fine but how hard is it to warm up cheese?. I thought it was just a one off but having read other reviews it seems not. Beautiful old pub needs a top chef then it may get as busy as it used to be.

We were offered tea or coffee as soon as we sat down and were not asked again even once if we would like a refill, I had to ask! The afternoon tea itself was poorly presented and consisted of shop bought scones with cream already inside and one mini pot of jam between 3 people. The sandwiches were bland with not much filling and the cakes on the top tier looked like they’d just been thrown on- no finesse or attention to detail at all. We left feeling really disappointed in what we hoped would be a lovely afternoon.

We stayed here this weekend, as we were visiting friends, for 2 nights, and we were not disappointed. We had a warm welcome from the staff on arrival, checked in with ease, and then headed to the bar for a few pre dinner drinks. The food was as amazing as we remembered from our previous stay. I'd pre booked a table before we arrived, but when we were at the venue, asked for a different table in a different part of the restaurant - which was no problem at all. We ate here a couple of weeks ago and the food wasn't very good, we thought that the "chef" maybe just had a bad day so decided to give it another go on Saturday. Sadly the food was much worse, the satay skewers came as a few scraps of grey flavourless chicken thigh. The salad on the starters had no dressing whatsoever, it was tasteless and an insult to send food out like that. For any so called chef to serve food like that is appalling, they clearly have no pride in their work or any respect for the establishment or paying customers.

A truly fabulous experience to say the least, the décor the service the food the atmosphere is just perfect. I booked in for Valentines Day, we don't get out much after 30 years together so I decided to spoil the Mrs with a night out ;0) We were not disappointed in anyway what so ever, a warm welcome was offered when we arrived 10 mins early but our table was ready and beautifully presented. The service was truly spot on (Maisie was our server what a shinning star she is thank you). The menu offered a fabulous range to suit all, we were left to decide just what we wanted and our order taken in time and without fault. Our starters arrived and we fell in love all over again, both were truly perfect for the occasion. Could our mains compete with our starters a tough act to follow but yes it surpassed our starters, well presented, perfectly cooked and tasted even better. So how on earth could our Deserts compete you guessed it they did the perfect end to a perfect evening out. So even after nearly 30 together I still have the skills to surprise and delight my fabulous wife.

Booked for Valentine's meal on the strength of past experiences and reviews, however, it is clearly a shadow of its former self. On arrival, we were told to wait because the front-of-house staff didn't know how to work the computer system. Granted, they may have been new, but all throughout the evening it was clear that there was no senior management nor real training or experience and it was as good as organised chaos. There didn't seem to be enough staff on, although it wasn't overly busy. We were sat down - squeezed in a corner between two tables already dining which was to say the least, very awkward. I felt like I was sitting at the table with the couple behind me! I asked to move. We were then given menus and asked to order within 2 minutes which I thought was odd - having already asked to move, and, we hadn't even received a drinks menu nor was the table fully set. Bemused, we moved tables to what we thought would be a more comfortable spot however there was an unpleasant smell in the air of smoke and toilets. We ordered our drinks (eventually) and our food following which the starters came and they were very nice. However, the disappointment soon continued when the Cod Loin (which was nearly £21) was tasteless, in a bowl of dishwater with an afterthought of grilled tomatoes thrown in. My girlfriend ordered the Caribbean jerk burger but that was terrible. I am not one to usually moan but this was just an awful visit. My girlfriend didn't even finish a fifth of her meal because the burger was so dry. The best part of the food was the fries. Rather disappointed, we declined the dessert menu and were left for a good 20 minutes before I decided to approach the bar for my bill. I was ignored for a good 10 minutes even though 4 members of staff were stood in the doorway and one of the bar staff made eye contact with me and proceeded to allow me to wait. It seems the hospitality staff need support and a great deal of training in customer service to get them to the standards that I would expect a venue like the White Lion to provide. Lastly, the images online and from the menus and websites give a misleading view of what to expect from the restaurant. A Valentine's night marred by disappointment, slow service and disorganisation. I, unfortunately, won't be visiting again any time soon, shame really.

Love the new decor, set the ambience for a great evening. On arrival both pub and restaurant very busy. Our table was set at the very back which caters for 10 people. Menu was presented great not loads to choose from and not too busy but great simple dishes on offer. Our party had starters, main and deserts and each of us enjoyed the food offered. Food was fresh, main dishes served on very hot plates and food piping hot. Highly recommend!!

Got to the bar to be greeted with “go to the front desk if you want a table” got to said front desk a short walk away to be taken to the table. Waitress was very courteous and perfectly pleasant but the drinks took an age in not a very busy restaurant. We ordered a chicken burger and ox cheek pie which came recommended. The pie was as dry as the Sahara and the gravy must have been administered with a pipette. Cabbage must be expensive as there was hardly any of it and the best part, the skin on fries were still clinging on to half a gallon of oil so were inedible. My wife’s coleslaw if not supplied en masse in an ice cream tub must have been made by someone who doesn’t know how to make coleslaw or simply doesn’t care. Upon receipt of the bill once again nobody was to be seen so we had to go to the bar to pay. Where behind the bar up the top of the premises you could see a number of staff having a chin wag, maybe discussing where the next Michelin star was coming from? I’m not usually a keyboard warrior but at no point did one person ask if we’d enjoyed ourselves or how the meal was, so I felt it necessary to let them know in this manner. I’m sorry White Lion staff and owners but that is the last £43.00 you will get from me. I don’t profess to be a hospitality guru however if this was my establishment a serious rethink would be on the cards.

Five of us booked for Christmas lunch following excellent recommendations from family who had attended the previous Christmas. The cost per person was £82.50, and although this goes some way to staff having to work the day, the food should be up to some standard....

Visited with friends just after Christmas and was disappointed with the food. Ordered crispy beef salad, a favourite in the local area that many pubs serve. It was basically dry cooked beef with no crispyness or sticky chilli dressing. Friends had fish and chips which...

Visited April 2021 when eating was allowed outside as we came out of lockdown. Excellent organisation by the pub with options to eat under a canopy or 'al fresco' in the beer garden.Food choice was the same as you get on a normal visit. We went over lunch. My haloummi wrap was very nice while the chips that accompanied the meal were off the scale.Place was packed Saturday lunchtime so booking essential if you want to make sure you get a table.

Myself and husband took advantage of the 'staycation' offer of dinner, bed and breakfast for £99! First of all I have to say that the staff here are wonderful, very attentive and always smiling (I can tell even through their masks!). The food is excellent - the menu is two courses consisting of a variety of starters and mains. However, you can upgrade to steaks etc which my husband happily did and add a cheeky pud which I could not resit doing! Everywhere is clean and sparkling - cutlery, glasses etc. Breakfast was just as delicious and served plated (not the usual buffet style for obvious reasons). If, more likely, when, we stay here again I would definitely upgrade to a classic room or suite as we did find the bathroom quite small and not really practical but for one nught it was manageable. Well Done White Lion and thank you for an excellent staycation!

Been a few times, vast menu but always have the same thing (fish and chips) because I’m a creature of habit! Always lovely, staff genuinely friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced and love to sit outside when it’s nice weather. Covid secure which is great, one way systems, hand sanitiser and staff wearing masks. I feel safe dining here. 5 stars.

First outing in 5 months and when I found out The White Lion were supporting the Eat Out To Help Out scheme I couldnt resist. My partner and I arrived early to enjoy a drink outside in the lovely beer garden before we went inside for our meal. We sat in the lounge bar area as we took our pooch with us and it was reassuring to see lots of signage and social distancing of tables and chairs. It was refreshing to be out and enjoying the atmosphere of a busy restaurant after being tucked away for so long. We both had the squid for starter and seabass for main course with a soft drink which was £20 under the scheme oh and obviously we couldn't resist adding a dessert :) Friendly team, amazing food and lovely surroundings as always. See you again soon

Dropped by for Sunday lunch just after they reponed after lockdown. Very safe environment with us all eating on the terrace as the weather was excellent. Overall very impressed. Food quality was on a par with serious city restaurants with my jackfruit Indian curry as good as I have had in that country while travelling. Portions were good especially for the Sunday lunch which floored my father who couldn't finish his.Staff were attentive but not overly and helpful with choice of drinks. Cost was a little more than average but food was way beyond expectations. Good veggie choice which was a bonus. Will definitely be returning when next in the area.
