We were away for a short break and decided to try here which we hadn't booked. They accomodated us and it was very nice. Not the cheapest. but the food was lovely. My Son had the Fish&Chips and it's the biggest one I've ever seen. If we're ever in the area, we'd absolutely visit again.

Worst meal we’ve had out for a LONG time!!! You know it’s bad when you ask for meals to be taken off of the bill & there is no argument from staff because they know how bad it was. Every table that was sat near us had a problem of some sort during their meal. But to sum up ours. Took ages to take the food order and then at that we had to ask twice. They should have a more senior member of staff taking orders so the order is taken correctly. The food took its time. Then my food turned up wrong. Both meals were missing things off, that they ended up bringing out after we asked. And the food was awful, I didn’t eat mine, the beef for the roast was so well done it was dry, the mash tasted like it had come out of a packet. Apparently the chef has walked out so food was being cooked by the family!?? Then maybe the customers should be told that before turning up for Mother’s Day lunch? Then we could have decided for ourselves if we wanted to attend the booking. Really disappointing this was our first time visiting and definitely our last!

Super friendly owners and the service is incredible

Came for a funeral wake buffet, thanks to all the staff for their polite professional service, the buffet was absolutely wonderful, this made a very welcome end to what was a difficult day.

We recently visited as a party of 6 for Sunday lunch having been previously and having enjoyed the meal. The Sunday dinner was alright however we were left disappointed by the quality of the desserts. 2 of our party ordered the Eton mess which was essentially shop bought meringue and cream with 1 raspberry and 2 blueberries used to decorate the slate it was served on. Seemed very overpriced for £7. Won’t be rushing back unfortunately.

Too noisy big groups , so felt uncomfortable, also the fish pie was mostly all mash and watery , bit disappointing, dont think big groups work in the small room we were in .

Went here to see the Saturday entertainment and decided to eat prior to it beginning. Ordered two mains, Greek style kebabs and plain Margherita pizza. First the kebab, wife chose chicken tikka and tiger prawn as her two choices. Quality was good but only got 4 prawns and 4 pieces of chicken, bit of salad and nice feta cheese, small pot of hummus, scoop of tzatziki, reasonable portion of skinny fries and a flat bread. Whole dish was ok but nowhere near worth the £18.50 cost. Mark up must be over 200%. Now the pizza, this goes into my top 3 of worst ever pizzas I have encountered. They used fresh (or tinned, not sure) tomatoes on top of the base then mozzarella on top of that. The base was so soggy/slimy I couldn’t eat it. A small part of the crust was crispy - I suspect this was at the back of the oven - but the rest was chewy. I honestly don’t think it was cooked enough but couldn’t really tell as there was so much sloppy cheese and tomato on top. Anyway, most of my pizza was left on the plate. I told the waitress my thoughts when she collected the plates and she said sorry and would I like another. I declined I couldn’t face another. When the bill arrived there was no deduction for the pizza I couldn’t eat so I asked for some sort of reduction and I received 10% off the bill (£2.95). So basically I paid £8 for a pizza crust. I have had far better frozen pizza from supermarkets for a couple of quid. Certainly we will not be eating here again. Drinks were expensive too. The entertainment was good though.

Perfect place for another family meet up, always a good welcome. The staff team are very efficient, friendly and helpful. Children are made welcome and the food was excellent. See you again soon. Thank you.

Went here for Christmas dinner. The atmosphere and service was perfect, couldn’t complain about that. However, the food was not up to standard. Many people in our party ordered a traditional Christmas dinner, which had extremely burnt Yorkshire puddings. I myself ordered a Christmas burger and the meat was extremely dry, topped with rubbery cheese. Great little pub, great staff, and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately the food just wasn’t up to scratch.

Just called at the white lion on a off chance, we were very pleased we did. I had rump steak it was cooked perfect, infact the whole meal was perfect. The girls who served us were very pleasent, polite and helpful we will definatly call again.

Warm & friendly welcome .. excellent staff .. High standard of cleanliness.. wonderful atmosphere & ambience. The food was served promptly, amazing in presentation & taste.. A fabulous experience. Would highly recommend & we will return.. congratulations to all the management & staff at the White Lion.

We had a family Christmas lunch - and my mother law fell poorly - the staff were amazing g on helping us deal with it and call an ambulance- heather really needs a special mention for really being so kind. The food was great but never got to the pudding !! Great to know people are still kind in the world !

Lovely pub & restaurant with a great team front of house. It benefits from being on the outskirts of the overly busy town centre and is certainly worth the extra few yards walk to visit. A good selection of ales on tap plus many gins, spirits, and wine. The menu offers a good selection across all courses, and the food never fails to delight - well designed, cooked, and presented. Visited mid-afternoon, so it was quiet but we enjoyed a fine meal. We'll be back quite soon!

I'm not a Worksop local, but I had Sunday lunch with close family this weekend at the White Lion. I ordered fish and chips. When the meal arrived it looked very impressive, a very large looking fish on a bed of chips with mushy peas and a side condiment, but I'm afraid that's where the positivity ends. The batter was very thick, doughy and inedible, it had clearly not been cooked properly. The fish fillet still had the skin on and the scales hadn't even been removed, which was very unpleasant. The chips were burnt and the mushy peas/condiment were tasteless. I eat out a lot and this (by far) was the worst fish and chips I'd ever been served. My dilemma was to write the experience off and not cause an issue among the rest of the family group, who were enjoying their Sunday roasts or stick my hand in the air and confront the problem head on. I elected the former and paid the £16, without complaint. My grievance is really with the chef who allowed this plate to leave the kitchen, they are professional caterers who should know how to cook fish and chips, their low standards have resulted in this review and an individual who will not visit the White Lion again.

Lovely home cooked Sunday lunch.The food was beautifully cooked .Waiting staff were really friendly. I would of given a 5 for service as the staff were most attentive friendly and polite, however it took a very long time from ordering to receiving our meal.This being said we would definitely go back again as the meal was so good .Many thanks

We called the White Lion before we went for Sunday Lunch in advance as we have a very nervous dog, so we asked them if there was somewhere we could sit outside, out of the way. They were very busy but so accommodating!! We decided to have a couple of drinks but not to stay and eat as our Lab was getting nervous. They boxed us up a Sunday lunch to take back to our lodge and it was AMAZING!! So tasty and the meat and roasties were delicious!! Highly recommend!! Lovely staff and the service was great. Thank you for understanding and accommodating to our needs!!

Fantastic food, entertainment and drinks. We went on a Wednesday for some food and quiz and was a brilliant night. Brought our dog along which staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. Chose streak and ale pie and it did not disappoint. Chips were fantastic and portion was very generous wish I could have fitted a dessert in! Decent selection of premium lagers and served a variety of hot and cold drink. Pub quiz was well attended and enjoyable, well organised. Only visiting but would be a regular spot should it be a local. Thanks very much!

Good food with generous portions

This was our first visit. A welcoming pub with friendly staff and great service. We thought this was a Greene King pub for some reason, as the menu seemed a little familiar. However that's where the similarities end, the food had a home cooked feel and was amazing. We came away with a doggy bag and look forward to finishing this off at home. Simply a lovely place with great people where a lot of thought and preparation has gone into the food.

Great pub for great food. But a little lacking on this occassion (literally). We were celebrating my hubby's b'day. When ordering a pie the Husband always asks whether it's just a pastry top or fully encased. This pie came looking like the dream pie..rather resembling a pork pie. Alas he was finding it hard going, saying it was dry and seemed a little over cooked. Only when we noticed another diners pie did we realise they'd forgotten to bring out the accompanying gravy boat! The other gripe was the acrid bitter after taste with the deep fried onion rings, made them inedible. But on previous visits the White Lion always scores 4 🌟

Went in Sunday for their Live Mic night… brilliant night, a good atmosphere, few too many Blue Moons and a few too many glasses of wine… Checked out the menu and decided we’d come back as it looked nice. We came back tonight and both had the Greek Kebab… amazing… loved it. Recommendation was the pie but had my heart set on the kebab and to be fair the pie looked amazing. So we’ll have to come again and try that for sure. Had the cheesecake and Brownie for dessert both which was incredible… was served by Tom who is absolute credit, always makes us laugh and feel welcome.

This was the chosen venue for drinks & buffet after an Uncles funeral today .I found out the carpark is fairly small with very tight parking spaces ,infact I decided to park off site in the end along with another relative as i didn't want to struggle getting out of my car or risk my car getting a dent .Inside I found the pub very clean with plenty of available tables in different areas.The staff on duty were very pleasant indeed when serving drinks behind the bar or glass collecting.Theres a large outdoor seating area for when the weather is good .Toilets are located upstairs & I found the gents to be nice & clean. Apart from the parking up issues on arrival, I enjoyed my visit to this pub & wouldn't hesitate on returning back again in the future .

Amazing food with fantastic service from Tom and everyone. And there's a doggie menu too. There were 4 of us and our dog and everyone loved their food. We're still talking about how lovely it was the next day. Totally recommend and we'll definately be back.

Great evening out, Tom's knowledge of the gin selection is second to none, frankly the muts nuts of gin advice. Food was bang on too.... Night out with our cricket club well worth it.

My husband and I visit this lovely pub often, being local. The menu is varied and we have enjoyed everything we have tried, although particular favourites are the Greek kebabs and the steaks. The staff cannot do enough for you; friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Great selection of drinks. Beautiful beer garden and most importantly a lovely, upbeat atmosphere.

Well worth a visit if looking for pub food I. The area. Nice atmosphere, at top of town near St Mary’s church. Decent food.

7.30 & stopped serving food. Not great, went to Lock keeper instead. Greene King are usually much better than this. Can't comment on food as a result. Very loud clientel, seem incapable of talking, have to shout even though they're sat next to each other.

Food was delicious. Service a little slow but food definitely worth waiting for!

We go for dinner and there's always a lovely staff member with such a friendly attitude that waits on us. Then, the meals are still delicious even from when we first stumbled upon the pub a year ago. They have a good chef and/or good recipes. The pub has such a warm and cosy feel to it with good decor. We manage to always sit in the same spot though. If we lived closer, I would treat ourselves to going here more often.

Great food, some creative menu choices always well prepared. The staff team are usually really friendly and helpful. Price wise it's not cheap but it's good quality and worth the money. The dining room can get loud if busy, which can be a bit of an issue. Pub quiz is a good night

Called in on a Friday lunchtime - the menu had chowder - which was so tasty and never really see on any other menus. Not many pubs these days have a proper Chef but these guys obviously do the food was outstanding. People of Gateford...

Fantastic, friendly service in a cosy environment. The menu wasn't extensive, but that's a good thing as it usually means the food is cooked to order not sat on a grill. We had a selection of dishes between us, chilli con carne went down well, as did the steel amd dumplings (perfect for a cold damp day!), amd I went for the Peri-peri chicken. The dishes seemed really fresh and arrived promptly, the chicken was tasty but a little over spiced for me, but that's perhaps just me (I wish I'd gone for the stew and dumplings as it was apparently "amazing" 😀). Overall, a lovely meal at a reasonable price, definitely worth a visit.

What a lovely find. Managed to get a last minute booking for a Sunday roast. It didn't disappoint at all. Great portion size and lots of variety. The pub itself is lovely with a gorgeous beer garden and very friendly staff. My only criticism is I felt my meal wasn't hot enough

First time visiting the white Lion as we don't live in the area .We was coming home from a day out . The meal was very good we had the Sunday Roast , served nice and hot .Pleasant staff . If in the area again we would certainly visit again .

Came here as a family 4 for Sunday dinner, food was fantastic and the service great with the very attentive staff . Reasonably priced at £90 all in for 4 Sunday dinners, 3 puddings and drinks, would certainly recommend a visit.

Absolutely fantastic place to go for a nice meal. The staff were so kind and helpful and the atmosphere was amazing. My Fiancé is Celiac and trying to find somewhere that offers a good selection of food that's Gluten-free is a challenge but The White Lion smashes it out of the park. The portions are perfect and my Fiancé said that her gluten-free food tasted amazing (also hard to come by). Definitely going to visit again and keep going until we try the whole menu. Finally to top it all off the pricing is bang on.

I had lunch with 5 friends. 3 of us had the cajun chicken, 2 sausages and mash and 1 scampi. We all enjoyed our meals and we didn't have to wait long to be served.

Clean pub and friendly staff but the real ales were dreadful I took a pint of Timothy Taylors landlord back as it was rancid and the replacement pump wasn't much better . The young lady behind the bar was pleasant but had no idea how to dispense a pint of cask ale .

Inside and outside dining both dog friendly indeed all staff very accommodating of dogs in the pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and very fair prices. Can definitely recommend the Parmesan Chicken.

The food was nice (we opted for a Sunday roast and brought out plenty of gravy) and the service was quick and good too, and it clean and properly presented. But there was a charge per person to cut up a cake - which we all found rather odd. I’ve never been to a place before where they charged you for slicing an occasions cake lol. Perhaps it’s something to do with cleaning up the mess after…? So if you’re booking a large gathering of some sorts and celebrating a birthday/christening etc and have a cake, take extra cash to be on the safe side 😅

Ok this isn't the cheapest place but my god the quality of the food is fantastic and you definitely get what you pay for . I've had a gastric sleeve so can't manage loads but I ordered the tapas trio and some onion rings which I still couldn't finish. My friend who is a good eater had smoked mackerel pate for starters and the steak & Ale pie for main and she couldn't even finish it . She couldn't praise the food enough. The staff are nice. My only criticism is the music that was playing in the restaurant wasn't good it was the type of music a young person would have blaring in the car. I asked very politely if it could be changed and I was told it would be but from what I can tell all they did was switch off the speaker in the restaurant side .

Please don’t tell anyone how good this place is. Let’s keep it our secret. Absolutely lovely food and service. Mussels to die for, divine Parmesan chicken and lamb cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely. I don’t know what else I can say.

Nice place inside with an enormous outside seating area too. Customer car park which is great. The food was very good, the choice of beer pleased my husband & the wine list was good too. The staff are all very nice in particular Karen, who was very helpful & cheerful. It's dog friendly inside & out. If we're ever in the area again, we would definitely eat here.
