very nice venue, food was lovely, service great.

Always love the food here. Today I had avocado and mixed grain salad and added a chicken tikka kebab. It was so tasty, I would definitely order again. Prices are so reasonable too.

Booked the table in advance online and received an email reminder shortly before the visit. The White Lion is set in a beautiful location, and we parked opposite by a small green. None of the stupid registration business - simply free parking. WOW .. What a lovely place to visit ... The pub was warm and welcoming, helped by the wonderful Christmas decorations. The windows especially looked fab. The staff were friendly and quickly saw us to our table .. We opted for table service, and it wasn't long before we were enjoying our drinks choosing from their mouthwatering menu. The food was top notch .... The roast dinner was a proper plate full and the pie incredible ... What a pie ! .... Will be going back for that alone :o) I hope the photos do justice ... Unfortunately, the desserts were so tempting that I forgot to take a photo prior to tucking in ... So just imagine that blackberry and apple crumble as a whole round tart ( Not some skimpy slice you get elsewhere !! ) ... It literally melted in your mouth ! Yummy ! Highly recommend a visit - ( approx £13 - £14 main / £5.80 dessert ) - We will be back :o)

Did rate this pub highly but a recent visit Oct 2024 brought the score down to 2 stars. Food very basic and small. One meal was cold and had to be reheated. Old review: Good pub food in relaxed atmosphere. Small beer garden. Staff are always polite and friendly. Car parking available but limited to three hours and VERY IMPORTANT: you must enter your car details on a screen at the bar. No reminders in the pub but you can get extension on 3 hours - just ask at the bar.

10/10 the food was great and to top it off found my self a new fav elderflower drink was absolutely amazing ! Definitely going back for another one of those .! Lisa the bar lady was so lovely made great conversation even though she was rushed of her feet made me feel very welcome. We managed to get a table last min by calling and the gentleman on the phone (made net elderflower drink ;)) was very approachable and kind.

Great outdoor garden. Food will never win any awards. Is of tolerable quality if you have a voucher. Would not wish to pay full price for the quality and presentation. Staff generally friendly and efficient.

Food was lovely! However it was all brought out at different times and so some people were already finished while others were waiting. Would also like to point out (while I know this isn't the pubs doing) that there were people going around the tables outside asking if they wanted to buy any ham or cheese - most likely stolen from the local shop. This is more of a heads up and was mentioned to staff on the day.

Fancied a nice roast. Potatoes were aunt Bessie’s!!! Do not go to a pub to pay £14 for a roast for frozen roasties. Veg was the portion size I would give to my 3 year old grandchild. Veg was barely cooked. Parsnips I got 1 thumb nail size pieces. Have eaten here before not an issue but defo won’t be back for a roast. Quite disgusted to be honest. On plus side dessert was delicious. Warm chocolate brownie. Pub was cold also had to keep my jacket on

Met up with friends for lunch. I had the chicken, bacon and avocado wrap with fries. The meal was so good. It was an open wrap, which was unexpected, but it certainly went down well. Some of the other meals were the lasagne, rainbow lasagne and half roasted chicken - there were complements all round. We'll be returning soon.

Got a great bite to eat and chilled with a few friends. Food was good and staff was very helpful. Prices are pretty good too.

The staff are amazing,we use the white lion every Wednesday nite,we normally book under Dave withes,but last nite Dave had dinner with his family members,so we booked under my name,the food is very top notch,that is why we book every Wednesday,there is 1member of the bar staff stands out,I call her the Wednesday nite girl.

Went for lunch with my sister today. We both had an Avocado Salad with grains, very tasty and fresh - very crisp lettuce - and beautifully presented. My sister has a bell pepper allergy and the manager consulted the chef to adjust her meal with an alternative as the grains incorporated chopped peppers. A very delicious light meal and reasonably priced. The coffee was good too and a friendly pleasant atmosphere for lunch.

Nice food. Pleasant atmosphere. Only complaint on a kids meal the chips come covered in salt, a little rub down fixed this but still a lovely lunch.

Great visit to this old favourite - don’t get to visit as much as we’d like these days but it’s always top of our list if we are in the area. Great team always working so hard, food really good and atmosphere warm and friendly.

Popped in for lunch to celebrate our granddaughters birthday. Good service and the food was excellent.

Have been here many times. Georgine behind the bar is always friendly and helpful. I recently had the crispy chicken, and it was delicious. Perfect for families and pets, great atmosphere and incredible service. Beer garden and car park very specious, and full of lovely locals and occasional passer byers with great attitude and lovely chats.

Very unimpressed service hardly saw any staff. Sunday lunch poor at best tiny cubes of veg mare cabbage then anything else. Frozen potatoes which were hard in the middle. The gammon was so fatty I had to leave most of it uneaten. Waiter tried to scoop up drinks before we had even finished them. No finesse food just dumped on the plate looked terrible .if your thinking of Sunday lunch my advice go elsewhere .

Sunday roast is okay but the sides are too expensive for the portion you get, so won’t be ordering them again. The veg on the roast is not great needs to be changed. Sunday meal deal is good 😊

Bar was busy but efficient service. Table had been reserved for two with my name on it and a table number. Menu was easy to read. Great choice. Nice separate drinks menu too. Food came in good time. Very nice haddock. Was all good. Thank you.

Wish they sold slimline bottled tonic...only ton tap. Sorry, not the same...didn't have a second one. But I think that's Ember Inns decision....although other Ember Inns seem to have ordinary tonic in bottles. Other than that a nice experience

Shame. It seems to have gone down hill drastically. We were 1 of about 5 tables when we turned up, all of which had already eaten. We went to the bar and got 2 pints of cider. These were served in ale glasses so were completely flat. We then ordered food and voila 40 minutes later our food came out the kitchen. The waitress, despite us ordering to our table, proceeded to take the plates around the whole pub before dumping them on our table. She asked who had the burger and I pointed at my partner and said over there please. She then put it infront of me anyway. The burger was meant to come with onion rings and hot sauce, neither of which were provided. The food was not hot and was chucked together on the plate, dispite no other food coming out of the kitchen since our arrival. My fiancée went to the bar to order another drink, but gave up after 10 minutes. Nobody came to check our food was okay and there was no one at the bar so we were unable to air our concerns at the time. Fair to say we won't be returning again, very disappointing considering it use to always be a guaranteed good meal.

Booked a table but when turned up table sticky and salt all over it.when we asked if they could get a cloth the waitress brought 1 over and left it with us 2 do? 3 of us had a starter and before we had all finished it our main course was brought over and had 2 b asked 2 let her finish it 1st.when brought back was a big dry from being under heater.really let down as our for my late father in laws birthday.young staff need training

Went here just for a drink and ended up eating. Food was actually great and for only £14 a bottle of Prosecco (Friday night) it was great. Steve was a brilliant member of staff, really friendly and gave us great service. Will certainly return!

Unfortunately not the staff’s fault, a lad was trying to snatch phones off people’s tables, tried the 2 gents next to me then tried mine, I told him to “jog on” I then was in formed by his mother who had no control, that her 22 yr old son had autism and took offence to my comment which I thought was tame as we didn’t know anything about them, I use the pub on a regular basis and I never offend anyone. She then made a quip as she walked away! Shame my experience today was tarnished by these people!

Much improved since a previous visit in 2023. Good choices on menu and our mini pud and coffee came as standard size so we weren't complaining! Worth a visit, plenty of parking spaces.

We love this eatery . It's comfortable, lovely ambience, great food. Lovely beer.... particularly the Guinness! The staff are pleasant and helpful. This is our go to place whenever we want to eat out. Oh.....and they accept the doggie......who's with us occasionally.

We really enjoyed the rib of beef with the veg and the pudding. We appreciated the deal of 33% off. We really liked the choice of beer and cider. The staff were very professional and polite .

It was a wake after a funeral. Food and tables very well set out, positioned in the pub but felt quite private too. The food soon went - a testament to the fact we all enjoyed it rather than a lack of it.

Homely pub, welcoming, good service, nice staff and good food prices but why were the chips luke warm at best ? Should have complained and sure the staff would have sorted it out but seems to be a recurring theme in local Bristol pubs, thought this one would have been better. May have just been an off day but it was a real let down.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch and were offered two slots which meant we could stay at the table for a few hours, then we had to vacate, ready foor the next group. Walking from the car park we went in through the back door and found ourselves in the main dining area, which at first glance looked cosy and welcoming. The decor was typical ‘old fashioned British pub style’ with a fake log fire and some antiques purchased at ridiculous prices to give it that, 'country feel'. It was familiar and welcoming. It felt like the sort of place you would want to sit down and eat a Sunday Roast and drink a few Beers. The carpet was typical of Pubs, Restaurants and Hotels that have no idea of grandeur. It was just functional. There were already groups of people at tables eating and there was a pleasant hum of conversation. The pub is set on several different levels so we had to go down stairs to the Bar where we confirmed our reservation by entering the car registration which authorised our parking. We were then sent through the bar, up another flight of stairs and back around to where we first came in, where our table was waiting for us. Once seated, the server sprayed the table, gave it a wipe and miraculously produced three menu’s. The menu was fairly straight forward. Sunday Roast on the right hand side, other stuff on the left. We concentrated on the Sunday Roast and after some initial confusion we all went for the Slow Cooked Rib of Beef £14.49 which came with Roast Potatoes, fresh roasted Root Vegetables, Steamed Green’s, a Yorkshire pudding and rich Gravy. It was a reasonably good meal. The meat was very tender and fell off the large bone, but it wasn’t traditional sliced roast Beef. it was more like a slow cooked joint with the texture of Ox cheeks. Nothing wrong with that but clearly a different cut of Beef than the usual. It was tasty and there was a good, if not generous portion. The Yorkshire pud was OK ( I’m not a great fan, I can take them or leave them) and there was a good helping of undercooked Roast Potatoes, just the right side of ‘not completely done’ to avoid complaints but they weren’t crispy, or fluffy, or in any way delicious. They were though, Roast Potatoes. The Root Veg was a bit of a disappointment too as I had to ask my Wife later if we had actually had any and she reminded me that the little cubes were Carrots and ( she think) Parsnips, but If it was left to me, I would have told you there was ‘no root veg on my plate’. I have examined the photo and I can see some little cubes that I now think were root veg, but if I’m honest, they were pretty non descript. Pity as they are relatively cheap and easy to cook and should be a real winner on any roast dinner. We ordered two very small portion a of Cauliflower Cheese (£2.49 each) and sadly, although the Cauliflower was cooked beautifully, the Cheese sauce had little taste and could have done with being scorched. The Gravy was fine but I’m not sure I wouldn't have described it as 'Rich'. We asked for Horse Radish Sauce and a jar was brought to the table. It was very good and there was no pretentions about it origin. It came from the Cash and Carry. Salt and Pepper were on the table, as was Brown and Tomato sauce, all snug in a little basket.  But do we really want Ketchup on our Sunday Roast? There was an option to have a set meal of two or three courses but we chose just a main and by the time we had finished, none of us wanted a pudding. The girls had a glass of red wine (£4.99) which they both liked and I had a Tomato juice. I went to the bar and collected a jug of water and 3 glasses as no one visited our table after the food was served and I was surprised to see £1.70 added to the bill. This is very much a get it yourself venue. You order at the bar, they bring the food to your table and if you want anything else, you go to the bar and order it. Then you carry it back to the table yourself. I watched several elderly men struggling to go up and down the stairs clutching drinks as there was no table service. The staff were friendly but I only saw four of them, two behind the bar and two waiting tables. There was some confusion about pricing as the sign on the wall said Sunday Roast FROM £12.99 and £15.49 when the actual price was £13.99 and £16.49. I was also very disappointed to find they had charged for a jug of Tap Water. Come on! So the total bill was £60.13 including VAT which isn’t expensive but the whole experience wasn’t that memorable, it was, very ordinary. Would we come back again? Probably not, there is just too much competition. Sorry guys, missed a trick.

I'm afraid the selection available for vegetarians was not great, if you like fake meat you might choose the veggie burger. But the main thing was the portions were so small. My sister had the cauliflower curry, it was tiny and quite expensive. My husband had the veggie burger, again small portion of chips with it. The staff were amazing it was really busy and they were working flat out but were professional and kind.
