Got the Hugo Spritz and burrata salad as a refreshing starter, amazing atmosphere and heavily recommend the sausage pizza! Definitely coming back again, hopefully to catch the quiz night

Great spot! Great for groups or date night, cool decor and great sound system. We Went on a Saturday night, we arrived around 8:30 and was an in house DJ playing soulful/background mix of tunes whilst we ate and drank. Ordered pizzas which were tasty recommend the Calabria with Burrata! (kitchen closes at 9pm so have to order before then). Even though DJ was fab, wasn’t too busy in here between 8:30-10 and they even called last orders very early, BUT it was bank hol Saturday so perhaps less people out and about and sure the staff wanted to get to their own plans as wasn’t busy! Has potential for a good night out - will for sure be back.

Came originally for just a drink and ended up having pizza and coffee on top as everyone was so friendly and great you can bring dogs.

I found the pizza really underwhelming and bland, and the chilli oil didn't really add much to that. The service was pleasant, but our order was really badly messed up repeatedly. I understand that they have pizza ovens, but the venue was just too hot to be enjoyable. Wasn't a great experience, but it was nice to see my friends.

Absolutely first class pizza, heaps to choose from. Staff were quick to get us seated on a Saturday evening and general communication was top notch. In the words of Arnie, I'LL BE BACK

Really great pizza, and they do a kids margarita too! Sauces were great, and starters and sides are must! Although it’s quite dark in there, there were a few families with young kids earlier on in the evening so it felt family friendly enough.

Really great pizza and venue with potential, but 2 major issues: I was sat upstairs on their mezzanine floor with a low ceiling, and we were sitting in smoke from the pizza oven the whole meal. My clothes/hair smell of smoke, and I have been ill and poisoned from breathing this in. I woke up in the early morning feeling awful and it's taken the whole day to feel okay, totally outside of normal health for me. If you go, don't sit upstairs breathing in soot. Secondly, the music was far too loud, resulting in us shouting across at each other during the meal. This is despite the speakers being on the other side of the room from where we were sitting. Just a bizarre and off-putting choice. Lastly a small one, but it's so dark and dimly lit, we had to use phone torches to read the menu, which one of the waiting staff looked embarrassed about when they saw. It's a shame because this is local to me, staff were mostly friendly, and the pizza was genuinely some of my favourite style, really nice dough with medium thickness, nice tomato sauce, and a good range of topping choices. Also I really like that you pay during ordering at the bar, because then you can just leave when finished without any bill faff. But I'm unlikely to book a table downstairs and go back anytime soon due to the music volume. Accessibility: probably not, there's steps from the street up to the doors, and the alternative door is quite narrow Dietaries: several veggie and at least one vegan pizza choice I saw. I think they would do custom orders as were happy to modify one of our orders.

It's a nice place for a drink but on a personal level I didn't really rate the food. The lighting is a little dark.

Editing my review after returning last week. My experience had been so bad the first time I was reluctant to go back even though it was a long time ago. Thankfully I had a great experience with exceptional and attentive service right from the moment we came through the door from the chilly night. Thanks so much to our waiter he made all the difference. Food was good and tasty but not quite up to 5 starts due to the white based pizza I had being very dry instead of creamy. Original review below for context! I was really looking forward to trying this place after hearing good reviews from friends but had a complete shambles of an evening. Service, though polite and friendly was pretty non existent. We had to ask to order drinks, to order food, for the bill, to pay etc. We were not offered more drinks once throughout the meal so made do with water after we all finished our first round. After been given the menus we and making our food selection at the point of ordering we were told there were no pizzas, it was 8pm and we had to pre book our table so they would have known how many covers there were that night. When questioned covid was to blame (pretty sure pizza base ingredients could be bought from Aldi across the road at a push). Burgers (meat and vegan) were ordered instead which were dry and tasteless. Just a patty with some melted cheese and a bit of limp salad. No relish or anything to justify the £13 cost. The fries were fine. The dessert menu was requested and when it arrived I specifically asked "are you sure you have everything on here?" I was assured yes. When we came to order, no what we wanted actually wasn't available. I assume the manager came over to apologise and blame covid. But there wasn't really much of an apology for any of or. Asked if we would like anything else we declined. Then two minutes later she was back to say oh yes actually what you want is available! When we finally got around to paying the bill to top everything off we were short changed! Won't be heading back soon when Church Road has much better options available. Thank goodness I had great company for the evening

Good pizzas. Service is always friendly. Miss their more extensive menu from when they opened. I also used to like their breakfast menu before that stopped. But still a good place to meet friends for a drink and pizza. Can always go to the Lockup down road instead for a fantastic meal.

Very decent menu, arancini is particularly good. We have been here a few times with our baby and it has been great every time, we get a seat and enough room for their stuff. There's also a chess club!!!

Went for a pizza Saturday lunchtime with my partner and 2 year old. Pizza was delish and fries super crispy, we had the beef special pizza which tasted like a beef Sunday roast 🤌 service was quick and super friendly, would recommend

I love this little pub, it has a cosy feeling and it's next to lots of shops. The people working there are always very nice with a smile on their face.

I mean…why is the music often so loud and terrible?! Everything else about this pub is spot on - great pizza, decent wine list, nice decor, friendly staff…but on at least three occasions I’ve had to leave this pub because the music was deafening. Why are you playing booming EDM at 5pm on a dank Thursday in November?! Stop trying to make ‘listening bar’ happen - perhaps if the place was situated in Kreuzberg and catered to a pre-Berghain crowd the concept might work…unfortunately The Red Church is a neighbourhood pub in east Bristol where patrons just want to enjoy their overpriced (but tasty) pizza and talk to their mates after a long day at work. Please, I beg you - change the music policy - I’ll even make you a playlist.

Pizzas are great, atmosphere great. Sometimes when you are ready to leave you need to just walk to the bar and pay. If you are wanting gluten free either don't go to a pizza place or email ahead to ensure they have the bases in. One of our party could only eat chips or salad but had had great gf pizza in there previously

Update August 2023- so I went back to this pub as I was passing and was hungry. Maybe it’s improved? Nope! Managed to get served a pint at the bar and a pizza at my table by two different people - no eye contact and a few grunts. I don’t think I’ve seen more miserable bar staff in a pub for a while. Maybe since the last time I was here! Nice pizza though. Original review June 2023- This pub is so confused. It’s my local and I want to love it but it’s so frustrating. Sometimes you go down in the evening and it’s closed, other times they’re not doing food and very unapologetic about it. Often you go in and the bar staff are nonchalant about serving you despite the place being empty. No hi or acknowledgment at the bar either - made to feel like I’m honoured to be there. Then there’s these huge speakers that are way too big for the venue and when used mean you can’t speak to the person you’re sat next to. I love the styling and stripped back vibes, the pizzas are fine but overpriced as is the beer. There aren’t many food options in this area but jeez, sort your pub out people or you’ll close!

Best pizza we've had in a long while, even on a recent holiday in Italy! Service was excellent, really friendly and hard working guys. Nice chilled music, good atmosphere. Will definitely return when we're back in Bristol.

Great pizzas, top notch Sunday roast

The menu is extensive, with something to suit all tastes. The food is cooked to perfection, they stop service food at 9pm. The flavors are well-balanced and the dishes are beautifully presented. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The service is excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to recommend dishes or offer suggestions. The interior is stylish and inviting, with warm lighting and comfortable seating.

Pizza was tasty and the service was outstanding: smiling faces and good manners. I will definitely come back

This used to be a place for amazing sourdough pizza. Sadly it is no more. The pizza oven is no longer wood fired and it shows in the taste. The chef may have changed - so whilst the dough is ok, the menu has noticeably reduced and lacks excitement. It definitely is not proper sourdough pizza no more. Ordering a bottle of wine appeared a challenge to bar staff, who appeared largely clueless and spent a fair bit of time trying to find things. (The bottle then ended up corked and sour) Food was dumped on the table without a word nor cutlery, and offers of pepper or chilli oil were sadly non-existent. Nobody came to check on food. Despite having to order at the bar we were charged a service charge, for what I do not know. Sorry folks, please get your act together. I live locally and I was so happy when you appeared and I had my first pizza with you. Now I’m disappointed. Please go back to proper woodfired sourdough pizzas and train your staff. You’re too expensive for what is at best mediocre pizza. Oh, and please don’t store your red wine next to the pizza over - it’s too hot. Thanks!

Pleasant enough atmosphere and enjoyed the visit

The pizzas here are so good I crave them. Selection of approx 12 pizzas, lots of vegetarian options and a few vegan. Both the vegetarian and vegan options are DELICIOUS, you can't choose badly.

Brilliant food every time, friendly, laid back staff. The background music at lunchtime is greatly enhanced by the hanging bass bins on the ceiling. 30 Hz ripples in my coffee cup; who could ask for more? Recommended.

Popped in for some early evening wine and small plates. Food was very delicious and really good portion sizes for the money. Wine also spot on

This place is quite confused. The pizza's are really good, but the venue feels quite cramped and crowded in the evening. They like to make a big thing about DJs but there's no space to dance. If it's a restaurant it would be better if it was quieter, if its meant to be somewhere to dance, they need to clear some tables out the way. They also need to sort their publicity. I received a flyer with a 50% discount on pizza delivery for a month. No date on it but when I tried it, there was no discount given before check-out. I went down to enquire in person as I live locally. No apology, no offer to honour what was on the flyer and no offer to eat in-house after we walked over in the rain. Unimpressed.

I had reviewed this place after it first opened as 4*, sadly things have really changed in the last months. For some reason there is now only a pizza menu (which just gets more and more expensive), and some really overpriced small plates of things like fries and wings. Gone are the other mains which made this place somewhere I would go regularly. On my visit this weekend it was less than half full on a Saturday night but I was told I couldn't order drinks at the bar....but then had to flag down a waitress twice to order one which took 15mins to arrive. We just left without ordering pizza. What a shame. It was so much better before, I hope things can move back towards this being a pub that does nice food rather than an unaccessibly priced pizza restaurant.

Not red or a church, but the pizza is good.

The food here is really, really good. Pricey but just about justifiably so. (£10 cocktails are not worth it, £15 pizza are worth every penny). But the service is a bit hit & miss. We were on their mezzanine. At first the staff were attentive but then, once we'd been served food, the staff seemed to disappear for huge lengths of time. Being on the mezzanine meant it was hard to flag down a waiter when we needed something so when they didn't come for long periods of time (10 mins) it was very annoying. And the music was so loud. The rigging that they've got for the speakers on cannot support the volume/bass that they had the music on so the reverberation was terrible. And it was uncomfortably hot. They needed to have a hige fan blowing during a cold snap in February.

The best roast dinner I've have out anywhere. The pork was perfectly soft and tender, with crisp crackling and without being dry or tough in any place. The potatoes were crisp on the outside, firm and tasty inside. Two kinds of cabbage, perfectly cooked, with a subtle sweet fruity flavour on the red cabbage. Really nice roast carrots, obviously starting with great ingredients. Yorkshire pudding as you'd want it. Apple sauce not the best, but not bad either, a little overspiced and not enough apple. Gravy good. Good range of beers, nice venue. As many others have noted in reviews, the service is very slow and this appears to be a persistent problem. They have vegetarian and dairy free versions of the roasts. Dog friendly, there were several dogs in there when we went.

Walked in and nobody was there to greet us as we booked a table. Made eye contact with one waitress who didn't acknowledge us so we just found our table and sat down. Ordered a bottle of wine, pizza, and some fries tonight. Pizza turned up without the fries. Asked twice for fries and eventually gave up. Most the staff seemed too busy having chats around the till/bar area. We were going to buy dessert, but wasn't offered as the waitress we told about our fries twice, grabbed our pizza plate and walked off. Never offered dessert or how the food was or acknowledged the missing fries. Bill arrived with the fries on there which we asked to be taken off explaining the situation. Shame as the pizza was delicious, but we won't be returning.

A local favourite! Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Extremely good food, great atmosphere. Never disappointed when I come here. Also, their Sunday Roast is the greatest of all time! 5 stars!

What a find! Classy, clean, friendly. Amazing generous foody food well presented, and excellent service. Good range of draught beers. Stylishly renovated old bank with high ceilings, lots of space, good acoustics. Great place to experience the unique energy, colour and creativity of Bristol.

Poor service, pre booked arrived and they hadn't prepared a table. Then sat us down, no one came over, had to order first drinks at the bar. Had to get our own food menus, finally waiter came over after 20 mins (at least). Food started great (recommend the wings as starters, if you go there) I had a burger, was good. Partner had a mushroom rissoto which was so oily and flavourless she couldnt eat it. Again no one came to check the food was ok, when we had finished it took 15-20 minutes until the waiter came over. He then said we were the second table to not eat the rissoto (why was it still being served?) Overall if I could give 0 stars I would. I couldn't so 1star it is

One of my local spots, real shame to have to leave a bad review but our dinner lastnight was just disappointing. The food was just bland and not really up to the standards I have come to know from The Red Church. We decided against the pizza this time but have discussed that that is all we would have again as it never disappoints. We had to inform our waiter about the meal not being up to standard. I know most places are struggling with staff shortages but if you cannot deliver the service you are charging for, perhaps its time to look at limiting your offer?

WOW! This pub is gorgeous, I love the decor and the pizza was SO good! We ended up getting some extras take away 😃 The staff were super friendly and great wine too. Such a great local find I will 100% be going back for a Roast next weekend!

The music and chips were good, the pizza was slightly burnt but wet and the cheese hadn't really melted. Bottle of wine with two glasses seems simple but pinot noir at room temp wasn't what I expected for £24 and glasses contained about half a teaspoon of cloudy liquid. I asked for clean glasses ... 5 minutes of fiddling with the hot water from the coffee machine later I was presented with two glasses one of which still contained cloudy water. I cleaned it myself and got on with drinking what was a pretty good wine if a bit warm.

This had now become my "I'm just popping out for a beer" place to go. Friendly staff. Very Good Pizzas

The service here has been consistently bad on 3 occasions. Either service is slow, individuals at the bar are inattentive, or staff are generally not bothered by your presence. The pub itself is an asset to the area and food and drink is good.

We visited here whilst visiting friends who live in Bristol. The menu suited all of our dietary needs which was great. Sadly the service was not quite to mark. Having watched others eat and leave ahead of us, we had to chase the waiting team for our order. Our table was booked for 7.45pm and we didn't eat til 9.10pm, food came out at different times, my friends almost finished before mine finally arriving. At paying the bill, I did mention the long waits and was offered an apology.

Had a Sunday Roast for 5 people, food was exceptional. Good portion sizes and very tasty. Only criticism would be that the service was a little bit slow and the restauarant was very warm.

Service was agonisingly slow, the food was cold and of a poor quality.

Had lunch there after spending some time at the park. Kids had kids meals with pizza - menu says margerhita but they were happy to add pepperoni for a small extra charge, which is entirely reasonable. I had smoked salmon and poached egg on sourdough toast, partner had aubergine pesto sandwich, with fries on the side for us all to share. All delicious and the staff seemed happy and approachable.

I've been here twice - once for breakfast, which was a little on the pricey side, but you really got what you paid for, as the quality was exceptional, and once for pizza and wine in the evening, which was nice and very reasobably priced. The staff are very friendly and do a great job.

Excellent! Food is excellent quality! We've been here a few times as we're locals...and never been disappointed. Pizza- as good, if not better than any established Italian Bristol pizzerias! 10 out of 10; Dough soft, base sauce flavoursome and sweet ( no unpleasant acidity) and great good quality toppings... Starters/tapas food/sides: Fries with truffle and parmigiano-divine! Goes well with the aioli:) Arancini- light, fluffy and flavoursome Looking forward to try their Sunday menu(roast) Good beer and adequate selection of wines. Some of their tap beer can be a bit flat so make sure to try a small sample before u order a full pint:) Prices- very good value for money( food and drinks) Staff- very friendly and welcoming Service- table service only available if you have pre-booked, otherwise u'll have to order at the bar( drinks and food) Atmosphere-good & relaxed Will we go back? Definitely! Went back for Sunday lunch. A well presented and tasty dish. The only thing that scored low was the beef, which even though good quality and well cooked, was not enough-I only got 2 very small and thin slices which is definitely not enough for a Sunday roast. So, chef, go with sold out instead of trying to spread it thinly amongst customers. For that reason, only scoring 4 on this occasion.

This is one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had in a long time. The rosemary roast chicken was cooked to perfection, and the sides are delicious with hearty portions. Incredible wine selection, a beautiful French pinot noir on the menu was superb. Highly recommend saving some room for the dessert selection too. Great vibes and atmosphere in the pub can’t wait to go back :)

The food was a poor quality and had no flavour, the sausages were undercooked, mushroom out of date and the tomato looked and tasted like plastic. Slow service given that the place wasn’t busy at all. Far too expensive for what you get. Won’t visit for food again.

Good service, good atmosphere and I enjoyed the food. We came here at lunchtime and whilst the prices are not cheap, the food quality was excellent. The poached eggs were not runny, but that's a minor quibble. Looking at the selection of beers and spirits, I will have to come back one evening.
