Great pizzas, nice atmosphere really good to have local restaurants that are great value and reliable.

2nd review - The last couple of times the food’s been a bit disappointing. The pizzas are good but It feels like this is their main focus now and the rest of the food just doesn’t deliver. A bit pricey for what it is. I got the hake and the portion was really small. Maybe should go for pizzas only from now on. Disappointed as it started off really well as a good place for food in the area. Also not the best experience with reservation. We walked in without reservation and and it look ed like they had loads of available tables but the FOH turned us away- we then walked out and reserved a table via their website and 10min later we had a table to sit on. Strange policy. Really cozy atmosphere and AMAZING Food! I was so pleasantly surprised by that place. I had the beef shin with polenta - again I cannot stress enough how good the food was. Rich flavour, so well complimented. Also big portion. My partner had the pasta ( can’t remember exactly what it was) and it was amazing too. I had great experience. The only downside is that I really wanted to say to the waitress how good the food was, but they never asked. ;) quick service, friendly staff. Compliments to the chef ! Really looking forward to going there again. I wish them all the best, because I think they deserve it. Well done! Again - Amazing food!

Turned up at 20:40 on a Friday evening and the kitchen was already being cleaned and refused to make food. Menu said food served until 9pm. Not good as based our night around this, and the whole of downstairs was full so it was not quiet.

The waiting time was a bit long

I went there for several occasions. The pizza is tasty with vegetarian / vegan options. The place is quite pricy, and you will be charged £1.50 extra for each nice pizza sauce. I have never managed to try chefs special as it is always sold out.

Pizza was burnt, had a previous experience of people being quite standoffish

we were refused service because one of our group was wearing a beanie hat. There is no dresscode listed on the website but on The Red Church's instagram there are several pictures of people in various style of hat including beanies.

Had a great pizza here on a weeknight, ever so slightly on the expensive side but not enough to bother you if you’re buying pizza out. Great beer selection, great vibe, will be back.

I hope more and more people in Bristol will find out about this place. I’ve tried a lot of pizzas in Bristol and this one is definitely top 3. Beer is always perfectly cold and sparkling, cosy interiors and nice atmosphere

Always a great experience here, the pizzas are top-shelf, the service is good without being too formal. Kids options are decent too. And who doesn’t enjoy a cheeky negroni?

Had a lunch time pizza here. The gluten free pizza was delicious. Salad and fries were great. A shame there was only outside dining on the road side as it was a hot day but inside was comfortable.

The food was lovely here as well as the drinks! (I highly recommend the Raspberry Lemonade) Amazing service, we always had what we needed. The place was lovely with a small upstairs looking over the restaurant. It was very warm and looked nice inside. Definitely would come back, best Pizza I’ve had in a while! Good Gluten Free options- all pizzas had GF optional bases.

Entered the restaurant at 20.40pm. Shown to a table that had menus on. Looked at menu and made a choice but after 10 minutes nobody had even offered us a drink. Went to the counter to ask if table service or order at bar. Apparently the kitchen shut 5 minutes before! Pathetic, dreadful, couldn't careless service. AVOID unless you want to be treated in such a rude manner.

Arrived at just after 8.30, shown to take that had a menu on. Looked at the menu and decided what to have. After 10 minutes nobody had offered us a drink or anything. Not sure if table service so went to counter, only to be told that kitchen closed 5 minutes ago...we gad been sat for over 10 minutes like lemons...they obviously don't give a toss and couldn't careless...still thought we would be mugs enough to order a drink. APPALLING SERVICE, AVOID UNLESS YOU EWANT TO BE TREATED IN SUCH A RUDE MANNER.

Great spot! Great for groups or date night, cool decor and great sound system. We Went on a Saturday night, we arrived around 8:30 and was an in house DJ playing soulful/background mix of tunes whilst we ate and drank. Ordered pizzas which were tasty recommend the Calabria with Burrata! (kitchen closes at 9pm so have to order before then). Even though DJ was fab, wasn’t too busy in here between 8:30-10 and they even called last orders very early, BUT it was bank hol Saturday so perhaps less people out and about and sure the staff wanted to get to their own plans as wasn’t busy! Has potential for a good night out - will for sure be back.

Came originally for just a drink and ended up having pizza and coffee on top as everyone was so friendly and great you can bring dogs.

I found the pizza really underwhelming and bland, and the chilli oil didn't really add much to that. The service was pleasant, but our order was really badly messed up repeatedly. I understand that they have pizza ovens, but the venue was just too hot to be enjoyable. Wasn't a great experience, but it was nice to see my friends.

Really great pizza, and they do a kids margarita too! Sauces were great, and starters and sides are must! Although it’s quite dark in there, there were a few families with young kids earlier on in the evening so it felt family friendly enough.

Really great pizza and venue with potential, but 2 major issues: I was sat upstairs on their mezzanine floor with a low ceiling, and we were sitting in smoke from the pizza oven the whole meal. My clothes/hair smell of smoke, and I have been ill and poisoned from breathing this in. I woke up in the early morning feeling awful and it's taken the whole day to feel okay, totally outside of normal health for me. If you go, don't sit upstairs breathing in soot. Secondly, the music was far too loud, resulting in us shouting across at each other during the meal. This is despite the speakers being on the other side of the room from where we were sitting. Just a bizarre and off-putting choice. Lastly a small one, but it's so dark and dimly lit, we had to use phone torches to read the menu, which one of the waiting staff looked embarrassed about when they saw. It's a shame because this is local to me, staff were mostly friendly, and the pizza was genuinely some of my favourite style, really nice dough with medium thickness, nice tomato sauce, and a good range of topping choices. Also I really like that you pay during ordering at the bar, because then you can just leave when finished without any bill faff. But I'm unlikely to book a table downstairs and go back anytime soon due to the music volume. Accessibility: probably not, there's steps from the street up to the doors, and the alternative door is quite narrow Dietaries: several veggie and at least one vegan pizza choice I saw. I think they would do custom orders as were happy to modify one of our orders.

It's a nice place for a drink but on a personal level I didn't really rate the food. The lighting is a little dark.

The food was fabulous. Unfortunately it was spoiled by the fact that I noticed the uniform of the chef was filthy when he came out from the kitchen.

Editing my review after returning last week. My experience had been so bad the first time I was reluctant to go back even though it was a long time ago. Thankfully I had a great experience with exceptional and attentive service right from the moment we came through the door from the chilly night. Thanks so much to our waiter he made all the difference. Food was good and tasty but not quite up to 5 starts due to the white based pizza I had being very dry instead of creamy. Original review below for context! I was really looking forward to trying this place after hearing good reviews from friends but had a complete shambles of an evening. Service, though polite and friendly was pretty non existent. We had to ask to order drinks, to order food, for the bill, to pay etc. We were not offered more drinks once throughout the meal so made do with water after we all finished our first round. After been given the menus we and making our food selection at the point of ordering we were told there were no pizzas, it was 8pm and we had to pre book our table so they would have known how many covers there were that night. When questioned covid was to blame (pretty sure pizza base ingredients could be bought from Aldi across the road at a push). Burgers (meat and vegan) were ordered instead which were dry and tasteless. Just a patty with some melted cheese and a bit of limp salad. No relish or anything to justify the £13 cost. The fries were fine. The dessert menu was requested and when it arrived I specifically asked "are you sure you have everything on here?" I was assured yes. When we came to order, no what we wanted actually wasn't available. I assume the manager came over to apologise and blame covid. But there wasn't really much of an apology for any of or. Asked if we would like anything else we declined. Then two minutes later she was back to say oh yes actually what you want is available! When we finally got around to paying the bill to top everything off we were short changed! Won't be heading back soon when Church Road has much better options available. Thank goodness I had great company for the evening

Good pizzas. Service is always friendly. Miss their more extensive menu from when they opened. I also used to like their breakfast menu before that stopped. But still a good place to meet friends for a drink and pizza. Can always go to the Lockup down road instead for a fantastic meal.

Very decent menu, arancini is particularly good. We have been here a few times with our baby and it has been great every time, we get a seat and enough room for their stuff. There's also a chess club!!!

Went for a pizza Saturday lunchtime with my partner and 2 year old. Pizza was delish and fries super crispy, we had the beef special pizza which tasted like a beef Sunday roast 🤌 service was quick and super friendly, would recommend

Very poor - the staff were doing a deep clean during lunch serine including spraying tonnes of wood polish everywhere including the table next to me - highly toxic and horrible smell with no regard to their customer eating their! I had to stop eating a leave - crazy!!!

From the outset, poor hospitality on all counts. The website held no spaces for us to reserve, on calling, I was told to be as fast as possible. We booked a table and were told to make sure we arrived and ordered fast, as the kitchen wanted to finish cooking. Given this venue advertises itself as a pizza and 'listening bar' the terrible sound quality from the speakers as I was told I had 'three minutes to order' did not add to my already poor experience. We booked before 9pm on a saturday night, but as I waited for my hastily ordered meal (and had to make a decision for my companion who was on the way), a member of the team tried to rudely grab our place setting and menus, pointedly making sure that I indeed had come to eat food and had ordered within the pre-closing time window. The tables had no salt and pepper on them, and any extra items failed to come with adequate serving utensils. The food itself was fair but overpriced, as was my pint of cider, however the wine was better priced for the area. I have previously enjoyed eating and drinking here, but clearly, standards have slipped, with a more limited menu, and only one bearded member of staff having any sense of customer service. We got the impression we were inconveniencing members of staff who wanted to get on with their own evenings - in a city like Bristol 9pm seems very early to be admonished for wanting some pizza with drinks.

I mean…why is the music often so loud and terrible?! Everything else about this pub is spot on - great pizza, decent wine list, nice decor, friendly staff…but on at least three occasions I’ve had to leave this pub because the music was deafening. Why are you playing booming EDM at 5pm on a dank Thursday in November?! Stop trying to make ‘listening bar’ happen - perhaps if the place was situated in Kreuzberg and catered to a pre-Berghain crowd the concept might work…unfortunately The Red Church is a neighbourhood pub in east Bristol where patrons just want to enjoy their overpriced (but tasty) pizza and talk to their mates after a long day at work. Please, I beg you - change the music policy - I’ll even make you a playlist.

Pizzas are great, atmosphere great. Sometimes when you are ready to leave you need to just walk to the bar and pay. If you are wanting gluten free either don't go to a pizza place or email ahead to ensure they have the bases in. One of our party could only eat chips or salad but had had great gf pizza in there previously

Update August 2023- so I went back to this pub as I was passing and was hungry. Maybe it’s improved? Nope! Managed to get served a pint at the bar and a pizza at my table by two different people - no eye contact and a few grunts. I don’t think I’ve seen more miserable bar staff in a pub for a while. Maybe since the last time I was here! Nice pizza though. Original review June 2023- This pub is so confused. It’s my local and I want to love it but it’s so frustrating. Sometimes you go down in the evening and it’s closed, other times they’re not doing food and very unapologetic about it. Often you go in and the bar staff are nonchalant about serving you despite the place being empty. No hi or acknowledgment at the bar either - made to feel like I’m honoured to be there. Then there’s these huge speakers that are way too big for the venue and when used mean you can’t speak to the person you’re sat next to. I love the styling and stripped back vibes, the pizzas are fine but overpriced as is the beer. There aren’t many food options in this area but jeez, sort your pub out people or you’ll close!

Great pizzas, top notch Sunday roast

The menu is extensive, with something to suit all tastes. The food is cooked to perfection, they stop service food at 9pm. The flavors are well-balanced and the dishes are beautifully presented. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The service is excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they are always happy to recommend dishes or offer suggestions. The interior is stylish and inviting, with warm lighting and comfortable seating.

This used to be a place for amazing sourdough pizza. Sadly it is no more. The pizza oven is no longer wood fired and it shows in the taste. The chef may have changed - so whilst the dough is ok, the menu has noticeably reduced and lacks excitement. It definitely is not proper sourdough pizza no more. Ordering a bottle of wine appeared a challenge to bar staff, who appeared largely clueless and spent a fair bit of time trying to find things. (The bottle then ended up corked and sour) Food was dumped on the table without a word nor cutlery, and offers of pepper or chilli oil were sadly non-existent. Nobody came to check on food. Despite having to order at the bar we were charged a service charge, for what I do not know. Sorry folks, please get your act together. I live locally and I was so happy when you appeared and I had my first pizza with you. Now I’m disappointed. Please go back to proper woodfired sourdough pizzas and train your staff. You’re too expensive for what is at best mediocre pizza. Oh, and please don’t store your red wine next to the pizza over - it’s too hot. Thanks!

Pleasant enough atmosphere and enjoyed the visit

The pizzas here are so good I crave them. Selection of approx 12 pizzas, lots of vegetarian options and a few vegan. Both the vegetarian and vegan options are DELICIOUS, you can't choose badly.

Brilliant food every time, friendly, laid back staff. The background music at lunchtime is greatly enhanced by the hanging bass bins on the ceiling. 30 Hz ripples in my coffee cup; who could ask for more? Recommended.

Popped in for some early evening wine and small plates. Food was very delicious and really good portion sizes for the money. Wine also spot on

This place is quite confused. The pizza's are really good, but the venue feels quite cramped and crowded in the evening. They like to make a big thing about DJs but there's no space to dance. If it's a restaurant it would be better if it was quieter, if its meant to be somewhere to dance, they need to clear some tables out the way. They also need to sort their publicity. I received a flyer with a 50% discount on pizza delivery for a month. No date on it but when I tried it, there was no discount given before check-out. I went down to enquire in person as I live locally. No apology, no offer to honour what was on the flyer and no offer to eat in-house after we walked over in the rain. Unimpressed.

I had reviewed this place after it first opened as 4*, sadly things have really changed in the last months. For some reason there is now only a pizza menu (which just gets more and more expensive), and some really overpriced small plates of things like fries and wings. Gone are the other mains which made this place somewhere I would go regularly. On my visit this weekend it was less than half full on a Saturday night but I was told I couldn't order drinks at the bar....but then had to flag down a waitress twice to order one which took 15mins to arrive. We just left without ordering pizza. What a shame. It was so much better before, I hope things can move back towards this being a pub that does nice food rather than an unaccessibly priced pizza restaurant.

The food here is really, really good. Pricey but just about justifiably so. (£10 cocktails are not worth it, £15 pizza are worth every penny). But the service is a bit hit & miss. We were on their mezzanine. At first the staff were attentive but then, once we'd been served food, the staff seemed to disappear for huge lengths of time. Being on the mezzanine meant it was hard to flag down a waiter when we needed something so when they didn't come for long periods of time (10 mins) it was very annoying. And the music was so loud. The rigging that they've got for the speakers on cannot support the volume/bass that they had the music on so the reverberation was terrible. And it was uncomfortably hot. They needed to have a hige fan blowing during a cold snap in February.
