There’s one place everyone brings friends or family who are seeing Bristol for the first time: to marvel at the Clifton Suspension Bridge. It’s an obligatory pilgrimage for visitors, even if the iconic view has been marred by scaffolding for two years now. Most people head to The White Lion, the pub next door at The Avon Gorge Hotel, where Granny will gleefully wait 20 minutes for her Dubonnet and Lemonade before embarking on a half-marathon shuffle around the terrace in search of a free table. And once she sits down, the “view” is a picturesque portrait of bridge maintenance—a modern homage to endless construction. But I’m not here to talk about The White Lion, or the fact that some contractors are playing an absolute blinder stringing out what is presumably the longest piecework project in the South West. I’m here to talk about Goram & Vincent, the restaurant perched above this nonsense, like a smug cousin, overlooking the terrace and hoping to convince you it’s a better place to be. Is it? Well… Pre-dinner drinks in the lounge are delightful. The bar is properly plush, with window seats offering that perfect vista of the bridge—minus men in hard hats (they only seem to work about two hours a day). The cocktails are decent, the service friendly, and you begin to think, “Yes, this is what I came for.” Then you walk through to the restaurant, with its floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the gorge like something out of a tourist board’s fever dream. Almost every table boasts a view that’s spectacular enough to distract you from the fact that, well, the food might take a while. A long while. The menu is promising, a mix of steaks, some fish, and a few intriguing vegetarian options, including a £20 carrot dish that had me wondering if Bugs Bunny had recently taken out a mortgage. The service strikes a lovely balance between warm and efficient—no complaints there. But then… nothing happens for 30 minutes. Nothing but the view, which, to be fair, is lovely, and the decor, which is fine, and the waitress, who looks like she might actually explode from stress. When the food finally does show up, my prawns are nice, my steak less so—overcooked, in fact. It goes back, a new one arrives with apologies, and I can’t help but think this is all a bit too familiar. There’s a core problem here: this venue has everything going for it—stunning views, well-judged service, stylish decor—but in the end, the kitchen lets the side down. Maybe I caught them on a bad night. Or maybe, just maybe, they’ve joined the ranks of the contractors down below, taking their time with the job, knowing there’s no rush because, after all, where else are you going to go?

I recently dined at Goram and Vicent, and I must say, the service provided by the staff (Jorge) was outstanding. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and promptly seated. The staff made sure I felt comfortable and were incredibly attentive throughout my meal. My server was knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations and making sure all my dietary preferences were taken into account. The timing of the courses was perfect, and my glass was never empty—service was seamless and unobtrusive. Very recommend, I’ll come back soon.

We had previously dined at Goram & Vincent in September 2022 to celebrate my mother’s 50th birthday. Prior to booking, I specifically inquired whether you could accommodate food allergies, as I have celiac disease. I was reassured that you could. Upon arrival, I made it clear to the waitress that I am celiac and cannot consume anything containing gluten, nor anything that has been in contact with gluten through surfaces or cooking oils. Once again, I was assured that the meal I ordered was gluten-free. Unfortunately, within minutes of leaving the restaurant, I realized that the meal was not gluten-free, and I suffered the consequences for days afterward. We reported this incident to your customer service team, who identified the issue and compensated us with a gift voucher equivalent to the value of our meal. This voucher was explicitly stated to be valid for two years, giving us the opportunity to return for a better experience. My parents decided to give your restaurant another try on August 9th, only to encounter further disappointment. When my father presented the voucher to pay for their meal, the server informed him that the voucher was only valid for one year and refused to accept it. My father then showed the voucher sleeve, where it was clearly written that it was valid for two years, and explained the situation. However, the server responded rudely and loudly, insisting that the voucher was not valid, and demanded that my parents pay the full amount. This exchange took place in the middle of the restaurant, with no effort to handle the matter discreetly, causing my parents considerable embarrassment. Despite my father’s polite explanation that this was not his mistake, the server refused to budge and did not offer any alternative. When my father requested that the issue be escalated, the server made a call but returned with the same refusal. My parents were left with no choice but to follow the server to the desk to avoid further embarrassment. Ultimately, my father had to firmly insist that he would only pay the difference between the voucher and the total bill, as the error was on your end, not his. After a tense exchange, the server finally agreed to accept the voucher but remained rude throughout the interaction and offered no apology for the confusion. I am appalled by the poor level of service my parents received, especially at a restaurant of your standing. This incident has further convinced us to advise our friends and family to avoid your establishment.

I wish I had read the true reviews prior to dining at this awful eatery. With such wonderful views of the Suspension Bridge you would have thought they would invest in some superb Chefs' . Avoid this place like the plague. Just like the 'terrible' comments section, I concur. I made a complaint via their manager & suppose to be head office only for them to send complaint back to the same place we were complaining about. The food was the worst we have ever tasted . Stale burnt naan bread; salad was not fresh; garnish limp; hairy chicken skewers; paprika tasting chicken, it was so over powering we sent it back to be replaced with nothing different. We requested a refund (we were offered 20%) only to be told it was out of his remit & we would have to contact the Manager (we were told they were going to get the manager only to be told she was not there!! really) Sent an email to the Manager who was very condescending & did not address the burnt/stale/cold food etc I then sent an email to head office only for them to send it to the thus place I was complaining about; her response was no different. I shall be escalating this further. Why should anyone pay for inedible food. We would have been best to order KFC. My advice to anyone thinking of dining at this eatery AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! This place is a separate entity to the Pizza being served outside; go there instead you will have a great view of the Suspension Bridge & great pizza at a reasonable cost. NB. I had to put one star but I wanted to give them none!

We were staying at the hotel so we also had breakfast here.. Really, this hotel ought to be one of the Leading Hotels of the World, it has such a wow factor in the view and the character of the building. However, it at worst is awful, is horrifically overpriced and at best just isn't anything special. I've got to stress that this comes from the top, from the Hotel du Vin higher management and whatever their weird attitude to this hotel is. The staff "on the ground" all work incredibly hard and cheerfully go the extra mile for everything- making sure we got the table we liked when booking dinner, replacing some frankly dodgy wine and sorting some coffee bags at breakfast for my husband when he couldn't deal with the evil taste of the coffee from the machine.. (I like that they have coffee bags in the rooms as well as Nespresso, by the way!). Special mention to the lovely member of staff from Greece who recommended the new wine (didn't get her name, but she is a student and they'll soon lose her to a fabulous new career!). The food is okay at breakfast and dinner. But it's just not terrific for the price, nothing remarkable, nothing to recommend. Also my husband makes the point that having a coffee machine at breakfast drags it all down further to just 2 star stuff! We went to Cote in Clifton Village the night after our dinner here- Cote has had its issues since the pandemic too, but they were refurbed and right back on top of their game, better menu, better food, more realistic pricing- and I loved it- I would choose to go there above Goram and Vincent on future visits. But thank you to the staff!

Quite disappointed at the service we received today. We sat down at 10:30am to have breakfast, after staying overnight in the hotel. We had to go and find a member of staff after we sat down to order, as no one came to our table. We ended up waiting 40 minutes for two soft boiled eggs and some avocado toast. When it did eventually arrive, the avocado toast had poached eggs on it, which I did not ask for, as I'm allergic to eggs. I said this to the waitress who looked at me like I'd grown two heads. In the end we had to leave before receiving our order, as we had plans and 45 minutes for a piece of toast with some avocado on is pushing it. Didn't receive any acknowledgement or apology for the delay or mix up. This was additionally disappointing as my partner and I got engaged the night before last at the same hotel, so it put a dampener on this occasion.

A big thank you to all at Vince and Goram restaurant on Christmas Day. Due to family illness, I had to cancel our Xmas lunch, but instead of leaving us in the lurch, I was able to collect the 4 courses (plus crackers!) and bring them home. Seriously overpriced for what was served . Yes the restaurant has a lovely view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge , but what was on offer was a very unfunny joke . No table cloths , just sticky wooden tables :: once we had ordered our desert , just a spoon ( no fork )was given and placed on the sticky table : yuk. I’m really shocked that the Hotel du Vin put their name to this. My pea and mint ravioli had a nice flavour but the pasta was way underdone ( yes I am aware it should be slightly chewy !!) …but. I ordered boeuf en daube which had an ok flavour but nothing special. One piece of meat the size of a small to medium potato perhaps 2 to 3 oz. Not shown on the menu , we had to ask, but the main course for 3 of us would be served with a selection of vegetables and roast potatoes . The vegetables were horrible , pretty cold . Sprouts almost raw , way too hard , carrots all wrinkly and no potatoes served. I mentioned this to the waitress and she returned 5 minutes later , apologetically saying the chef had forgotten them !!…. 3 servings !!. 3 pairs of pale , leathery ( roast ?) potatoes were delivered. Two of our party had turkey which was one thick slice from a boneless roll . I didn’t taste this but it looked rather dry. Two had sea bass and one , mackerel , which I believe was cooked well . We all had 3 courses , a pre dinner drink for 4 of our party of six . Also an unremarkable bottle of Malbec ( at £38) : total bill £56 per head . The food was really ordinary for this price . Guests would be much better advised to walk 300 yards to The Ivy where for similar money , they would receive a high end offering not this down market delivery . Hotel du Vin … what are you doing .?? Hotel du Vin … what are you doing

Well I and the group I was with had been looking forward to this night out for some weeks. Arrived at 7.15 and the service initially was quick. Drinks ordered, Food ordered..and then that is where is started to go wrong. Starters did not appear until just after 8pm when the pre dinner drinks arrived just before them. The the mains, well they did not appear until just after 9pm and when they did they could be described at best as lukewarm. This had by now ruined the evening and ruined the atmosphere. It is not like the restaurant was anywhere near full (at best 1/3rd full).

I never come on to write reviews, but it's one of those places that was so bad I really feel I need to warn people...! Really terrible experience here. It was my Dad's 70th birthday, which made it even more disappointing that it was such a let down. First up - as a place it's got great views, and then initial waiter who welcomed us seemed friendly. So a decent start. But then the wheels started to come off. A female waiter was just plain rude, throwing food at us, eyerolling when she got our bottle of wine wrong (you couldn't make it up!), clearly didn't want to be there. The male waiter was sweet, but not great at his job - missed menus, scraped food off our plates right in front of us (so strange!). Food was OK, but flat, and poor value for money. Atmosphere poor - empty apart from a table of guys on a work do which they sat us right next to which was strange when there was loads of space to give us all some privacy. I thought the restaurant being part of the Hotel Du Vin was a guarantee we'd have a great experience - unfortunately it was the worst restaurant experience I've had in years. We actually politely complained at the end to one of the waiters - just to say how disappointed we were and 2 managers were in earshot, and they didn't even bother coming to see what was going on! I felt sorry for the waiter, clearly out of his depth and not getting any senior support. One to avoid.

Strongly suggest the restaurant to update their opening time on both Google map and their website, the terrace is actually not open from mid-day to 10pm on weekdays. Very disappointed as it closed in the afternoon entirely. The receptionist in the hotel is arrogant to tell you to book the dinner from 5:30pm onwards. Seems like you’re doing a wrong thing to come. Our first visit, regrettably likely to be our last. Nothing really bad, but absolutely nothing outstanding, particularly taking into account the high prices. Our first choice of wine not available, no one really able to explain or offer suggestions regarding alternative. We felt wine prices generally very high compared with other similar venues. Service generally though was good, our server really tried to do her best for us. Food was just ok, again nothing special, and our choice of dessert (limited choices) the crumble, was not available. How can you run out of crumble? The fruit can be frozen and the topping made in minutes. We had taken friends from overseas on their first visit to Bristol and wanted it to be a really special evening. Regrettably this was not the case, average at best but pricey The views of course are stunning, but would I go back to have a similar experience just for the view? No

The restaurant is fine, there are no surprises which I think is a bit of a shame. It has the best view in all of Bristol but everything else is a little generic. The food is good but could be found at any Ivy or Cote and the wine list has a very “let’s cover all bases” feel. I would say that the staff are fantastic though, polite and attentive. Overall, it has the potential to be an amazing destination venue but lacks an individuality or personal touch to make it stand out. You’re guaranteed have a good meal but won’t be blown away by it.

Gorgeous food and a stunning setting let down by below par service. Our table was marvellously situated in front of the large panoramic windows with views directly towards the Clifton Suspension bridge. It is lit at night and is an incredible feat of engineering. In terms of the food, there was nothing that I could critique, the portions were generous and in our opinion quite reasonable. Total bill - £133 for 3, eating starters and mains inc 2x drinks each. The big let down was the service. Drinks were slow to appear, our starters actually arrived before our first drinks. Once we had finished our mains, service completely stopped and we were ignored. The wait staff were busy around us, serving the tables to either side. Eventually I had to go and find someone so we could pay, we settled and left with our table not cleared. The food and the view are fantastic, but the service needs to improve.

Really liked this restaurant, will definitely go back when I'm next in Bristol. In short, fine dining without the inflated price. We ate dinner and one breakfast here. It's fine for well behaved children, they even have a kids prix fixe meal at dinner for £10. Ambiance: excellent, the view of the gorge and the bridge is alone reason enough to dine here. Service: excellent Price: very reasonable, we had dinner for two with drinks and dessert and the kids prix fixe for £65. Dinner: I thought everything was excellent with the exception of the brisket, which was still good but a bit dry. Squid with peppers: the fried squid was tender and the lightly pickled hot peppers balanced the oil from the fry nicely. Lobster bisque: delicious, not too sweet. Beet and goat cheese salad: great Mac & cheese: crunchy on top, very cheesy and a bit of spice. Among the best I've had in UK. Onion rings: light and fluffy crust and the onion cooked perfectly. Doesn't pull apart when you bite it. Brisket: I love a really juicy smoked brisket, but this was a little dry. The sauce was nice, though. Cheese plate: delicious of course and generous with the amount of cheese. Breakfast: Galette with ham, eggs and gruyere: this dish was really well balanced and the cheese popped.

The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, beautifully and simply decorated, and suited for both large groups and more intimate meals. Chefs and waiting staff were fabulous and chatty, clearly very passionate about what they do despite being rushed off their feet!
