The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, beautifully and simply decorated, and suited for both large groups and more intimate meals. Chefs and waiting staff were fabulous and chatty, clearly very passionate about what they do despite being rushed off their feet! It is on the pricier side but considering the layout of the courses you can certainly get great value and quality food for your money. The menu is incredibly innovative and delicious. All in all an amazing experience, especially for sharing as a family!

This is our local, food is amazing and can’t fault. But awful chain beer. Even in Bristol where there so many local beer suppliers offering incredible options they’re serving Camden pale, run of the mill and lagers. Really upsetting when the wine list and food is fantastic. Get some local Bristol beer guys and you’ll have my custom forever! No good roast is served with a bad ipa

I recently visited The Clifton, hoping the new management and renovations would impress. The decor was lovely—nice pine tables, plenty of space for our group of six, and a pleasant atmosphere. Service started strong with quick attention to drinks and food orders, but the meal was disappointing. The menu, mainly small sharing plates and mains "for two," raised concerns. When I see this, I worry about portion sizes and value, and my concerns proved right. We ordered a range of dishes, but when the food started arriving, it was unclear who’d ordered what. For example, we ordered two portions of sourdough bread at £5 each, but only one small board arrived, labeled as "bread for the table." If that was both orders combined, £10 for four slices and some butter felt unreasonable. Some small plates were decent—the whitebait, smoked mushrooms, and pork belly with chicory. However, the mains were a big letdown. The pork, supposedly for two people at £30, was tiny, barely enough for one. Sides came out at random, so one person ate their pork before the cabbage even showed up. For that price, we expected a proper portion. They also forgot our pork cheeks order, adding to the mess. In total, with £120 for two bottles of wine and a few cocktails, I ended up paying £65 for a slice of bread, some whitebait, a disappointing artichoke pie, and some mullet. The Clifton has nice decor and friendly service, but the food was overpriced, poorly portioned, and left us feeling ripped off—like the restaurant knows that with small plates and sharing portions, it can cut costs and maximise profit. I wouldn’t recommend it.

After both hearing and reading a lot of great things about this restaurant since the change of ownership we were really excited to visit for dinner. To say we left disappointed would probably be an understatement... We ordered two cocktails to start which were £12 each (there was a 2 for 1 at the time we went) but even so, for £12, you'd expect more. They were served in your standard half pint classes, with no garnish at all. Most disappointing of all was the sirloin steak, which was incredibly chewy and fatty. Given the hefty price tag of £70 (yes £70!), we had anticipated a much higher quality cut of meat cooked to perfection. I attach photos of the serve which was also disappointing, more thrown on a plate vibe and half had slid off than any care or pride taken in presentation. Additionally, the accompanying potatoes were quite frankly inedible, with the insides completely blackened - see photo. The hispi cabbage, which was drowning in an excessive amount of butter and lacked any flavour whatsoever. The peppers served with the steak were unacceptably cold (straight out the fridge), and the crispy lamb starter was accompanied by a jus that was overwhelmingly sour, tasting more like vinegar than a flavorful sauce. I would really encourage you to spend your money elsewhere and read some of the other reviews... we left incredibly disappointed, and in honesty, still hungry. The prices are extortionate for the food they're serving. Plenty of other places at a fraction of the price.

Unfortunately the service is not great. Very expensive for a small roast. Veggies were cold and only had 1 carrot. They’d ran out of beef roast at 3pm so had to have the lamb. Also ran out of gravy! Three of the others had the pork and had to complain as it was so fatty and inedible. Took a long time to arrive too. Cauli cheese was good but I really I don’t agree with £2.50 for a Yorkshire pudding.. Lamb roast + Yorkshire pudding + cauliflower cheese = £36.50 ! Good that it’s dog friendly and it’s nice decor. But food and service is a real let down for what could be an awesome space - especially for the high prices. Staff seem really unfriendly and no one seems to greet you / check food is good etc during the meal. I’ll be back for drinks but not food.

So, I understand the importance of these reviews and ratings, I always try to contribute in a positive way as I know first hand how hard it is to run a business however, when you are charging £28 for a Sunday roast you place yourselves in a position where peoples expectations are high. I took my family here for a roast after a recommendation myself, like many others have cut back on the expensive meals out so I was really looking forward to this meal. I will keep this as brief as possible but here goes, we arrived for a late sitting on Sunday, should be noted this was still over an hour before the last sitting, on arrival we noticed that the two specials available had sold out, disappointing but that's the risk you run with a late table, we were then seated at the back of the restaurant a nice big table but no natural light, we asked to be moved any they very kindly put us on a lovely table in the window. The service was slow and the staff looked tired, understandable, but as I said before at this price point I did expect better but I guess we are all human. We ordered 4 roasts 2 adult two kids, one starter to share and a cauliflower cheese the price for food alone totalling around the £95 mark, I was then informed that the sea bass my son ordered was unavailable and they had also run out of oysters (I was thinking of treating myself) so time passes in what is not a not very busy restaurant and our starter finally arrives, it was ok, everyone liked it so can't moan, at this point I am not looking for any negatives just excited for my roast. Quite a bit more time passes, the kids are getting hungry and I am feeling a bit frustrated the evening ordering a drink is hard work, I finally have to stand up and walk to find a member of staff and chase up our order, a further 10 minutes pass and the food arrives, it's look ok, the meat looked good, especially the beef but once again at this price point a few roast potatoes, shredded cabbage and two carrots feel underwhelming. We tuck in, my wife and son happy with the beef my pork was ok and my daughter's lamb.... Well I have had nicer lamb in the past. The portions were just about acceptable but my daughter still hungry and I say I will get her £2.50 Yorkshire pudding, once again not staff members in sight so I walk to find one, order the Yorkshire and request a little more gravy. The pudding arrives but I am informed that there is not enough gravy for me to have more, it is at this point there I feel the need to speak up and explain that at this price point the request for one person to have a little more gravy should be and understandable requests, she goes away to "talk to someone" another chap arrives at our table and informs my that more gravy is simply not possible although he is apologetic and offers to take something off the bill I say ok and he leaves. I go back to my meal and realise my son has some gravy left so steal a bit from him (it was father's day after all) I try it and it has obviously been watered down compared to the adults although his roast alone was still charged at £13.50 as he had gone for the beef. I have now given up and want to leave, the bill arrives and they had knocked around £50 off, I say ok and we go home. In summary I have no doubt this was just a bad day at the office for them and my gut feeling is all the staff was lacking in motivation and required a manager who could keep them on point for the duration of the service.

Unfortunately however, they wouldn't accept cash so I shall not return to find out weather the food lives up to the impression I had of it. For £27 for a Roast Beef dinner I expected something special, and after waiting over an hour I finally was served my lunch, 1 slice of rare sirloin, 1 undercooked Yorkshire pudding, 1 carrot, a few strands of cabbage and 3 inedible roast potatoes that were impossible to cut, all covered in a warm tasteless gravy. Additional Cauliflower cheese was rock hard and £6! My wife had the lamb which was no better and at £28! Service was terrible and wine list a joke. Absolutely love that it’s dog friendly and the open kitchen is lovely. Service wasn’t particularly friendly, was initially ignored when came in and when we were acknowledged it was quite dismissive and unwelcoming, in addition there was a 12.5% service charge which we paid of course as kitchen did a great job and the final waiter was very friendly.

We were the first guests at the restaurant and the only diners for a good half-hour. We ordered a main for two, which we were told would take half an hour. The waiter advised us to have starters while waiting, which we did. But we ended up waiting ONE HOUR for the main dish to arrive, long after we'd finished the starters. We had to ask twice how much longer it would take, and received no explanation for the delay, only a half-hearted apology. The food was nice but not worth an hour's wait or the half-hearted service. They had the effrontery to charge us 12.5% for the service! (With hindsight, we should have refused to pay it, but we were fed up by the end and just wanted to get out of the place as quickly as we could.) Would not recommend this restaurant: they do not respect guests enough to keep them informed of what is happening or to tell them the truth.

Went a while back so take this review with a pinch of salt, went for the pub quiz and I found it a bit unoriginal as they just used these pub quiz sheets that it seems a lot of pubs are using the same. Certainly took a bit of the charm away from a pub quiz. Drinks were too pricey for what they were offering. This being said, the staff were lovely and I really like the interior design of the place. Elegant, comfy, cosy. Good pub, mediocre pub quiz.

We went to the Clifton knowing that it’s one of the new Bib Gourmands in Bristol this year. The food didn’t disappoint. Glorious mushrooms and blue toast, super tasty asparagus with tarragon mayo and incredible fish course. The service however is below average for a place that is on the Michelins Guide, as food is not everything. There has been no explanation of the menu and little knowledge of the wines. Atmosphere is relaxed, although it remains a slightly overpriced pub that serve super flavoursome food.

I have been to the Heathcock in Cardiff and that was fantastic, however… buyer beware, you could better spend your time and money more wisely in many places in Bristol… I would suggest to go elsewhere. The wine was great, we had 2 glasses of bubbles and 2 wines. As a small plate/ sharing restaurant I expect food to come out in a timely manner, especially at this price. But after chasing for 20 mins after the first (fish) dish; came out on its own, and got cold, It grew very tiresome and it made it difficult to even enjoy the average quality of food.. nothing was anymore flavourful than an a good hungry horse. Suffice to say £145 and 3hrs at a restaurant for two people was not leisurely, or that enjoyable. It was unreasonably slow for how quiet it was, and the food was uninspiring. I am very disparaging about The Clifton to the extend I have written a review, and I don’t write reviews. I will be sure to tell people to avoid it.

We had a lovely meal here with friends, and enjoyed selecting a combination of small plates and larger sharing plates for our meal. Word of advice is be prepare for specials to disappear from the board if you're a little later on in the evening. We regretted not ordering sooner as the one we were going to go for got swiped off! As it happened, the ox pie was delicious. Service was mostly good although not hugely attentive. We were just left after desserts for over an hour I think, without being offered coffee or more drinks. That said, we were happy chatting away so probably didn't look in need of attention!

Starting with the ambiance, the venue aligns with the surrounding area and demographic, offering a relaxed and cool atmosphere. However, the service falls short of expectations, with several slips noted, particularly in wine service, which was eyebrow-raising. As for the food, we sampled all eleven small plate dishes, and the overall experience was average at best. The standout dish was the roast pork and fennel, delivering flavors worth savoring. Unfortunately, the final impression left a bit to be desired. Witnessing the proprietors engaging in hand slaps with the KP and vaping in front of clients hints at a lack of professionalism and maturity. While The Clifton warrants a visit for its ambiance, upon closer inspection, its flaws become apparent.

On a recommendation from a friend we booked for 4 people on a Saturday night (two couples). Food was so good but painfully let down by the service. Got to mention first, we were seated next to this big open fronted fridge. I've been in for a drink before and it was loaded with impressive steaks - fair enough. On Saturday we were seated directly in front it, the contents was a mangled fish half butchered and a load of butchered quails. Just SO unappetising and one of our party was a vegetarian so pretty horrible for her. Food: the menu is ever changing (literally daily I believe), I think for some it could actually be a challenging menu because it is fine dining and there are some odd ingredients, but we loved it. It's not easy to choose what you want because it's almost like tapas in here, there are a mixture of sharing plates (£10-£12 average) and big plates (£27-60). I like this set up, really makes a difference from the usual starter main desert. We chose two breads, sharer chicken and ham hock pie, two tenderstem broccolis, deep fried quail, crispy pig cheek, a fish dish, some layered potato dish. Like I've said everything was delicious, good quality etc and not your usual menu items. Pie was next level it really was (£27 for this). The problems came with the service and lack of communication. You aren't met at the door, you awkwardly wander into the bar area. Our serving women didn't seem to be that busy but spent the minimum time with us - ask for drinks and literally tried to run off before we could say that we wanted bread. This waiter comes over with a plate of bread with 7 tiny slices on it, tells us that they have run out of sourdough and puts it down without anyone having a chance to question it. First off, much more polite to come over and ask if this is okay (since sourdough was half of the bread described). Secondly, oh my goodness this bread is £5 per portion, and we got 7 tiny slices with butter as TWO portions. Who are these guys kidding.. if you order two portions, why get un uneven number of pieces? And such small portions, just depressing. Anyway, we were shocked by the bread portion and asked the waitress, she thankfully said she'd charge us for one portion because of the sourdough issue. Next off ... our friend said you could request all dishes to arrive at once, we were never offered this and didn't ask. We got most of our dishes in about 20 minutes which was absolutely fine. Finished all these and then 45 minutes later the pie arrived? This wouldn't be a problem if the waitress had thought to say how long the pie took, but we were waiting so long without an explanation, and it would have been lovely to eat the broccoli with the pie... To add insult to injury, a few of the servers were messing around and flirting with each other, I was a waiter for 5 years so understand a bit but in such an expensive place, I don't think this is cool. 12.5% service charge of course so no pleasure in tipping but this is usual now isn't it. We did get a tall guy being our waiter for desert section of meal and he was much more jovial and generally better, this was only reason we paid the service charge. Would I go back? Food was so good and a few small changes to the service would transform the experience, so probably yes I would.

Awful, awful service - so slow, no one acknowledged us, we just stood there like lemons. The waitress didn't show us to a table, just gestured vaguely to sit anywhere. It took 10 minutes to get menus. We had to ask for table water. We ordered 3 dishes. One was terrible and we didn't eat it. One didn't even turn up before we had to leave. We were then charged for it & the £30 booking fee wasn't deducted from our bill. I was wedding dress shopping with my mum and sister so it was supposed to be a nice lunch but two of us left only having had bread! We couldn't get our heads round how shambolic the staffing was.

My friends and I booked via Google with a confirmation email but turned up to find no reservation. This was a technical issue The Clifton were aware of, effecting multiple customers. There was no efforts on social media to spread awareness of this issue. This meant that my friends and I were left with nowhere to go to on a Saturday evening. No real solutions were given and we later realised on Res Diary that there was a table available an hour and a half later that evening at The Clifton which wasn’t offered as a solution. All around shocking customer service, no efforts made to solve this issue and we were basically told to go away through no fault of our own. Further to this, on arriving there was nobody to take reservations and multiple members of staff walked by our group with no acknowledgement at all. Lovely venue, staff were very friendly and the food was great. Party of 12 with a host of sharing starters and mains of good quality.

This pub always had unrealised potential and at last it's become a go-to gastro-pub in Clifton. Very friendly service, really excellent and interesting food choices, carefully chosen wine list, and a great atmosphere. Unpretentious, smartly simple but welcoming décor and excellent value for money. One huge plus for me is the fact that (if it's not a weekend peak time) you can get away from noisy tables - there's lots of room at the back of the pub where you can relax , chat and relish the food without being deafened.

Faultless service and lovely wine but the food was entirely average and extremely overpriced. The heritage tomatoes were lovely, (but how hard is it to put tomatoes on a plate, at £9 you’d expect them to be lovely.) The crispy lamb was tough and underwhelming. The potato and crab salad was fine but very small for the price. After spending over £60 for 4 dishes and one drink each my partner and I left hungry and disappointed. The homemade bread and butter was absolutely divine however! Definitely the highlight of the meal. Knowledgeable friendly staff too so not all bad.

Looked for somewhere new and walked in. Much bigger than you think. Was quite shocked at the prices, then they explained that was for 2! They probably should make that much clearer on the menu. So the format is more tapas, with a few central dishes, and every dish was fresh and amazing. Especially the Steak & Ale pie for 2. Overall, with drink, £45 a head. Historically a lot but these days is the norm.

My new favourite - Absolutely tremendous cooking. Reasonable when they do the £18 deal. Lovely selection of beers, ales and wine. I love sitting by the grill to watch the cooking. Too many good dishes to recommend - soufflé, pork cheek salad, the heart, tomato and anchovies, peigon, duck leg (sightly salty depend on the day), onion squash... just to name a few. Ask for the special!

We managed to get a table for 2 last minute on a Sunday, which was a nice surprise. We tried both the pork and the beef roast dinners along with a cauliflower cheese and corn on the cob with anchovies as sides. The roast dinners were alright, but they were quite small and only included cabbage, 3 roast potatoes, a single carrot and gravy. I really wouldn't recommend the corn on the cob. It was very dry, and the anchovies were undetectable. The cauliflower cheese was fine, but again, nothing special. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good, but I should note we waited well over 30 minutes for our food after we ordered. Unfortunately, my dining partner really didn't enjoy the roasts both due to the fatty meat and found the rest to be a bit tasteless and lacking in salt.

What an excellent addition to the Bristol dining scene – a cracking Pub, with a simple, unpretentious dining room at the rear – but serving fantastic, en pointe, cooking, accurately priced. The Welsh brigade are Tom Watts-Jones creation, and he should be proud, while the front of house team are super-friendly and knowledgeable – we’ll be returning soon!

Agree completely with last few reviews, a great place to eat & drink. I'm sure it's a lazy comparison but the nose to tail ethos is reminiscent of St John & the food was just as good. It was quiet this lunchtime but i doubt it will be in a couple of months. Really interesting wine list & along with the food reasonably priced. Highlights of our lunch were the Ox heart (thinly sliced & spicy) & the beans/peas & feta. Our only negative feedback, voiced to our waiter, was that the runner beans were delicious in the anchovy sauce but for us could have been cooked a bit longer. For many the hardcore al dente would have been fine i'm sure. We wish The Clifton every success & will return.

In my personal opinion, the team here at The Clifton have absolutely nailed what a pub should be. I visited consecutively over two days, once for lunch and once for dinner- The place is bright, clean, and has a wonderful atmosphere when quite and also when busy. The food was nothing but outstanding. Well written and thought out menus executed to an incredibly high standard for a seriously reasonable price, with the sort of portion sizes and format that I would expect a pub to serve, flexible and varied. This hands down is my new spot in Bristol for drinks, lunches & dinners and shall be recommending to any of my friends who happen to visit.

We stopped by for lunch today - the menu had small plates and also large plates to choose from. They were doing lunch offer of 2 small plates and a glass of house wine / pint of wye valley pale ale for just £18 - incredible value. We had lamb sweetbreads, mackerel fillet on Isle of Wight tomatoes, jersey potatoes - they cook over wood fire with a gentle smokiness to some of the dishes. The wine list was exceptional - over 40 wines available to sample by the glass, and many more by bottle. Recommended! (It’s managed by new owners now, so it’s had a very nice refurb inside too)

Cute pub in the Clifton area, with more seating than you would think from the frontage. The beers were nice although more unique guest beers would be welcome.

I liked my whole food salad but … It was a very limited menu if you didn’t want a burger or chicken. The tobacco onions and chips sides were cold. It was annoying that, even though we’d booked a table, we had to order online or at the bar. Has table service deceased!?? The atmosphere was a bit dead tbh. I’m not sure we’ll be coming back :-(

came in for a roast around 2pm on sunday and was served by orla, her service was incredible as was the other young lady working the floor. they where all so welcoming and the roasts where impeccable, we all had the beef roast with a side of cauliflower cheese followed by the chocolate brownie as they where unfortunately out of churos, must have been a busy weekend! non the less the food was incredible and the service even more so… well deserved 5 stars.

Fraser and rose where behind the bar (my friend works here so I found out their names) she's always told me how good the staff are here but I never thought they would live up to her standard, they where incredible and the quiz sounded lots of fun!

After a good walk in the rain we found this pub-restaurant and said to take shelter. We were quite hesitant about whether to order food or not because the menu didn't catch our attention, but we ordered some chicken wings to share and it was a great success. They were different from the ones you get in other places. They are grilled, and the whole piece of wing and thigh. Highly recommended. Good service.

came in on Saturday during the day. wasn’t overly packed but had a great atmosphere. We ordered 2 of the chicken burgers, nachos and the gorgeously dirty fries. All made by the brilliant chef wasn’t able to get his name before we left but he had a bun? was very well taken care of by a young women with red hair and a young man with a beard who definitely knew there way around a bar! will absolutely be coming again!

I came here for Sunday lunch with my friend last week and I’m afraid to say we didn’t enjoy our lunch. The carrots & parsnips were completely uncooked/hard, we could barely get our forks in them. It was a small portion, and everything didn’t seem to have much care put in to it. It was disappointing as I had heard that the roast is excellent here. I also have to say that the service was great, our waiters were very attentive and friendly.

There’s one place everyone brings friends or family who are seeing Bristol for the first time: to marvel at the Clifton Suspension Bridge. It’s an obligatory pilgrimage for visitors, even if the iconic view has been marred by scaffolding for two years now. Most people head to The White Lion, the pub next door at The Avon Gorge Hotel, where Granny will gleefully wait 20 minutes for her Dubonnet and Lemonade before embarking on a half-marathon shuffle around the terrace in search of a free table. And once she sits down, the “view” is a picturesque portrait of bridge maintenance—a modern homage to endless construction. But I’m not here to talk about The White Lion, or the fact that some contractors are playing an absolute blinder stringing out what is presumably the longest piecework project in the South West. I’m here to talk about Goram & Vincent, the restaurant perched above this nonsense, like a smug cousin, overlooking the terrace and hoping to convince you it’s a better place to be. Is it? Well… Pre-dinner drinks in the lounge are delightful. The bar is properly plush, with window seats offering that perfect vista of the bridge—minus men in hard hats (they only seem to work about two hours a day). The cocktails are decent, the service friendly, and you begin to think, “Yes, this is what I came for.” Then you walk through to the restaurant, with its floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the gorge like something out of a tourist board’s fever dream. Almost every table boasts a view that’s spectacular enough to distract you from the fact that, well, the food might take a while. A long while. The menu is promising, a mix of steaks, some fish, and a few intriguing vegetarian options, including a £20 carrot dish that had me wondering if Bugs Bunny had recently taken out a mortgage. The service strikes a lovely balance between warm and efficient—no complaints there. But then… nothing happens for 30 minutes. Nothing but the view, which, to be fair, is lovely, and the decor, which is fine, and the waitress, who looks like she might actually explode from stress. When the food finally does show up, my prawns are nice, my steak less so—overcooked, in fact. It goes back, a new one arrives with apologies, and I can’t help but think this is all a bit too familiar. There’s a core problem here: this venue has everything going for it—stunning views, well-judged service, stylish decor—but in the end, the kitchen lets the side down. Maybe I caught them on a bad night. Or maybe, just maybe, they’ve joined the ranks of the contractors down below, taking their time with the job, knowing there’s no rush because, after all, where else are you going to go?

Visited the Cambridge arms for a Sunday roast on 24th November and couldn't fault anything. The food was top notch (had the roast trio) highly recommend the pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. The member of staff who dealt with us throughout made us feel very welcomed, not sure of his name but assume he was possibly the manager. Anyway can't recommend highly enough definitely worth trying there Sunday roast 10/10
